Super Group Site Generator?
Ranked? By what?
Prestige is meaningless since it can be padded with inf conversions.
Base Raiding has been turned off so there's no PvP ranking.
Membership is also meaningless since players can pad their rosters with fillers.
And doesn't Guild Portal already offer free sites for SG's?
Sure it would be nice if there was such a feature connected to the forums/CoH website.
Heck it's be cool if they listed our global names and then from listed what characters (with their avatars) we had on which server and their bios if any.
Hi,
Was wondering if Super Group leaders would use a "site generator" where they can easily create and customise a site which would also be hosted. Choices would be something like a ad supported free package then premium packages, with all registered SG's to the site being indexed and ranked. If a lot of people like this, Ill see what I can do. |
I won't knock your idea at all, rank them however you see fit, I think people will use it. I know I will.
But I would most likely go with prestige ranking as this is what the game uses. But that's entirely up to you.

I'd say make a few ranking categories (and filters,) so if I went there looking for an SG, I could filter out, say, dedicated PVP groups, or RP-heavy groups, or "uniform required" type requirements as well as the obvious ones like "by filter."
And I wouldn't. Ranking by prestige means nothing. It could be a lousy SG with a few dedicated farmers and a high churn of members.

But adding the ability to allow us to create a SG and give the option to use check marks to determine if we are a pvp group or rp, or if we've purchased infuence would be nice, but what about groups who converted to prestige, how to you determine which group is invalid compared to the next?
I personally wouldn't exclude anyone to be honest, but your filter idea sounds like a plan.

That would be fine, but how can you tell the PvP Groups from the Farmer groups? And why even worry about things like that. Each group does their own thing, no need to filter them out. Just because one group converts thier earnings to prestige doesn't mean they cheated or gamed the system, everyone has the option to do that. So it doesn't make one group better than the other when it comes to purchasing prestige.

I don't think the issue is "Validity" of a group but rather simply a "Tagging" system so at a quick glance a player could find out what a group is all about

I'll miss you all.

Maybe, perhaps, "Which of these categories fit your groups? PVP, casual, RP, farm, scheduled TF" and the like? I know, crazy thought.
And why even worry about things like that. Each group does their own thing, no need to filter them out. |
So, if I - someone looking for a supergroup, hearing about this resource and wanting to find one that fits what I'm interested in - look for a group, I shouldn't be able to filter them out?
Yeah. That makes lots of sense.
Just because one group converts thier earnings to prestige doesn't mean they cheated or gamed the system, everyone has the option to do that. |
Where you're getting all this other stuff from, I have no idea, nor do I particularly *care* to know.
Basically, there's nothing worthwhile to "rank" SGs by - most notably prestige, but definable filters like I mentioned WOULD be a useful tool.
Memphis, not sure why you think I'm getting upset at you as I'm not, I was simply spiffballing my thoughts and posted them. So don't get all giddy thinking I'm trying to say your wrong in anyway, just shooting ideas out there and how things could be done, that's all. The way I read your previous post was Prestige wasn't a good way to show rankings, which I agree. I just felt since the game offers that, maybe he should too on the site.
A lot of people look at the top 100 SGs when it comes to looking for a good stable group. So I took what you had said and added to it, Prestige may not be meaningful to you or I, but to some it means a lot. We've seen that in the market section in many threads
I like the idea of giving options to the creator of the SG on the site the ability to use multiple check boxes and select the things that represent the SG, that way if people want to filter out PvP groups they can, if they want to see a list of SGs that farm or RP, they can. But as a default list, I think Forbin_Project hit it on the nose, Alphabetical is the best way and then people can filter by server and however else they want through the flagging system.
Just my thoughts

I'd see Prestige Earned as just another filter and have to agree, that as far as ranking goes, it's pretty meaningless. I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that don't even know about the SG search function.
Not saying that it shouldn't be listed, but I don't think that an off-site SG roster should list them according to their Prestige, I'd prefer Forbin's suggestion of Server specific and alphabetically, with filters for RP, PvP, Farming, Theme, etc.

Problem is, these sites are not geared towards City of Heroes proper (GP is made mostly of guilds from the 800 lbs Gorilla...), so either they have options that are irrelevant ("DKP/Raid Point system" ?), or have options that are missing.
So, yeah, if a new site done specifically for COH SGs/VGs would be available, I would certainly give it a try.

I believe Guildportal will let you do it, not sure how easy it is to set up and how easy it is to access.
Keep NCSoft from shutting down City of Heroes : http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
It's not a full website for your SG or anything, but you can make a page for your supergroup in the Ouroboros Portal wiki, make pages for your characters, and link them to each other.
Definitely not a 'plug in some info and out pops a website' kind of setup, and it's really only appropriate for a description, roster, history, and list of details like SG colors or emblem or such... and a link to your full site, if you have one. But still. If you're familiar with wikis, it can be pretty spiffy.
Proud member of Everyday Heroes (Infinity Heroes), Dream Stalkers (Infinity Villains), Devil Never Cry (Freedom Heroes), Enclave of EVIL (Pinnacle Villains), Phobia (Infinity Villains), Les Enfant Terribles (Freedom Villains), Gravy Train (Virtue Heroes), and more!
Full, detailed character list
Ok all your posts are highly appreciated and are great for feedback!
To add, this would be different from other guild/group site creators as this one would be purely based around COH.
Not 100% sure yet if this will be done, just thought I would put it out there and see what others would say.
Thanks
