Suggestion: Changing SG Name

I think it would be cool if you could change your super group's name. I was the first person to join the super group I am in, and have done all of the recruiting and base building for it. Awhile back the guy that created it up and left and I have been the leader for over a year now. I have been wanting to change the name to something original because the name he chose is not, and I feel that i miss out on a lot of new members because of the name (since this is a question I get asked a lot). I was not really paying attention to it when i joined it in 2008 because I just wanted to join a new super group after missing a year and a half of playing. I was thinking maybe you could do this for a fee of prestige or influence. I would just start a new super group but I have already put in a lot of time and effort into this one.

While I would like to be able to change a couple of my SG names I have to ask how you would feel if you couldn't log into the game just long enough to get demoted due to a real life emergency and when you came back you found that you were kicked out of the SG you spent so much time and effort on and you couldn't find it anymore because the name had been changed.

Yes we've had that happen in the past where a "trusted" member of several years got control of the leadership, kicked everyone and stole everything for himself and created a new SG.

I would definitely like to be able to change SG names.

I inherited my SG from a regular group I used to run with, cause I'm the only one who still plays anymore. I've never been particularly fond of the name. Still, I don't want to give up the millions of prestige (largely earned by me) that the SG has, just to start over with a name I picked myself. (I'm an avid base builder, so the thought of starting over at 0 again is horrifying.)

It's not anything AWFUL mind you, I just don't really care for it. (The Adjudicators, on Guardian if you're wondering.)

I don't think changing the SG name is really going to make much difference if someone decides to be a dick and do the rest of that. What good would finding the group again be if you'd been kicked out?

I would absolutely love to be able to change SG names, even if it had crazy restrictions (even if it was only once like global names!) A few years back, I was in a supergroup with some friends on Infinity, and when I started playing a bunch on Pinnacle, I chose a very similar name for both my hero and villain SGs to keep the theme.

Then, a couple months later, due to some SG drama, I ended up leaving the original SG, and was stuck with two supergroups with weird names based on a group I wasn't even in. After suffering through it for a while, I eventually made a new group and moved all my characters to it, but right around that time most of my friends who played on Pinnacle with me stopped playing... I lost the vast majority of the prestige that supergroup would ever earn, and it's taken a couple years to get the base functional again with essentially just me and my alts. Being able to rename my supergroup would have saved me all that trouble.

Proud member of Everyday Heroes (Infinity Heroes), Dream Stalkers (Infinity Villains), Devil Never Cry (Freedom Heroes), Enclave of EVIL (Pinnacle Villains), Phobia (Infinity Villains), Les Enfant Terribles (Freedom Villains), Gravy Train (Virtue Heroes), and more!

My reaction would be "Hey, @othersgguyIplayedwith, what happened to the SG while I was gone?" I mean, I'd have to remember SOMEONE who was in the SG.

My issue, as always, is with someone changing the SG name without saying anything to the group they lead (since this would end up as a "red star" decision.) I mean, do you check your SG name every time you log in? Plus, I'd *suspect* there'd be some sort of cooldown - 15 to 30 days between renames, for example - so it couldn't be changed back on a whim.

Essentially, leader has an issue, renames the SG to "worthless players" (for something censor friendly,) cleans out the base and leaves (or leaves the lead character in to 'lock' the name.) The rest of the SG gets stuck with that *or* has to start over in the middle of everything *else,* and the CS attitude - the reason they came up with that red star "superleader" bit in the first place - would end up being "They had the star, they had the right."

Now, none of the groups I'm in would have that issue, so this isn't a personal "I wouldn't trust so-and-so in our group not to do that." And I can think of a group I wouldn't mind tweaking the name on. But I could see that being an issue.

I'd pay for a SG rename token. As for who gets the authority to change it, any supergroup member can apply the rename token, but only the super-commander {or whatever the redstar title is} can actually rename it?

Actually back when the Devs added the red stared Super-leader rank I kind of figured one of the reasons they bothered with that in the first place was to make it easier for there to be a single responsible person for SG name changes. Obviously that hasn't happened yet, but clearly the logistics of how it would work would be more straightforward now that there is only a single "person in charge" of big SG decisions like that. *shrugs*

im pretty content with the sg that i inherited from a friend over 4 years ago lol

i dont think i would have problems with the auto demotion either because i have it set to 45 days, and im usually on the red start toon several times a week

having the option to rename it (or turning off the auto demotion, but thats for different thread lol), would be alright by me

i would prolly treat it like the global name tokens, which are once unless they decide to hand them out or something

With the access we have to multiple accounts it would be very easy for someone that got control of an SG to invite an alt on a second, third, or fourth account then promote that alt to Super Leader. Kick everyone to steal the SG and change the name so it won't be recognised and then feign shock and outrage over getting kicked on his main account.

CS won't get involved because the Super Leader owns the SG's lock stock and barrel and can do as they please with them.

Another valid concern I could see happening.

In the last dead SG I inherited I waited almost 2 years before I touched the base salvage that was still in storage (Base salvage not Invention salvage) in case someone returned and only this past December cleared the roster of members that hadn't logged in over 700 days.

Doc, I hope you used the search feature to find this, in which case, kudos for using the search feature to find an existing topic, except that this topic is over 2 months old.

All that said, SG re-names are something that have been requested previously. At best, we can probably hope for a purchasable rename token (much like a character rename token) at some point. But if that will ever happen and when is impossible to tell.

Less than three months is not necroposting. People starting new threads on the similar topics are always getting told that they should have posted in pre-existing posts that are less than three months old.

Keep up the good work Doc.

My mistake then, I'm mixing up my forum rules. Other sites on which I am somewhat active enforce the rule of "if it is 3+pages back, it's old." Granted, the amount of new topics there is a smaller number than here, so topics get pushed down at a slower rate. Apologies!

There's no written forum rule about it one way or the other. The forum rule just says don't necropost. Three months seems to be the general consensus of a fair limit when it gets brought up, especially on hot topics where some people think that what they have to say deserves a new thread. Anything over three months almost everyone agrees is necroing.
