Open Up more servers
I remember last year practically all the servers are yellow. Now every night I see both Virtue and Freedom always constantly in the red. I see this as a good thing since the game may be getting more popular.
What I am suggesting is that we open up more servers. I am not suggesting we just create more servers from scratch. I am suggesting we open up the European servers so we can create characters there and for Europeans to create characters on the North American Servers. Let's have all servers available to all players. I never really understood why we had to separate the servers anyway between continents. Maybe for the Language barrier maybe. You can always have a message pop up saying, "Warning, This is a French Speaking Server. All Dialogue will be in French." Is this a good idea? Bad Idea? |

Merging the NA and EU server lists is a popular idea we've been asking for for several years.
|
Another problem I just though of is that I have a Global Friend in the U.K. that has 2 accounts. An EU account and a North American account. If the 2 were to merge, he would need to select which account to remain active since all would merge, or he can continue to pay for 2 separate accounts.
I believe the biggest hurdle would be account names. Let's say someone has the account name "Superhero" on the NA servers. There could be someone else with the account name "Superhero" on the EU servers. If they merged NA and EU accounts, who would get to keep the name. If they change both names like they did with the forums, how would they let the account holders know?
(Note: I could be wrong on this, I know two accounts can have the same global name on the NA and EU servers, but I'm not 100% sure if it holds true for game account names, but trying to log in without realizing that your account name has changed would be a large annoyance for many people)
I'm all for this, like every time it's suggested. I'll deal with the inconvenience of conflicting global names and account names if it means I can play with the EU crowd whenever I want. We had a great time back in i10 beta when they got a bunch of EU accounts in the NA training room.

Really? I've never seen anyone request it before. Of course there was that one year I quit due to Real Life Stuff.

Sure there will always be twits that get pissed off. If the devs gave us solid gold bricks there'd be morons complaining that the devs didn't give them a wheelbarrow to carry them in.
Interesting that you define a priori that the EU players would be the ones who would be forced to change their handles. And then label people with such colourful monikers.

Whenever you talk about merging servers or merging server lists or expanding to a one-server environment or really just about anything which touches on the integrity of the server structure, you will always run into the problem of conflicting instances. Character names, server names, account names, overflowing the maximum number of characters per server, etc. etc.
That's not to say this should be the death knell for such endeavour, but more to say that this would need to be addressed in some way, and I'm fairly certain it'll have to be addressed sooner or later.
All of that said, I'm still all for the idea. We don't have a player base large enough to scatter it all over the world. The more you can get people together, the better it is for the game.

I'm sorry that my opinion that the group that stands to gain the most should be the one to put up with the name changing offended anyone.
As per usual I say "Dear [entity or generic focus of belief] please yes"
The Global thing don't bother me, but then I'm biased (I've got @Carnifax both sides).
Having two accounts would be a bit ouchie but I'd live with it if it meant reversing the idiotic NA/EU divide.
[Paging Red Name to materialize and say "We currently have no plans to do this" in 3-2-1...]
Heh. To be honest I wasn't trying to offend anyone, I was looking at it from the perspective that if the EU and NA servers were to merge into one large comprehensive list that the EU players would be gaining the most. They'd be going from 4 servers to 15, and they'd be gaining 132 character slots. So if that were to happen to me, I'd find the annoyance of possibly having to rename my global/account names a minor irritation that would go away after I chose a new name.

I think Rabbits pulling your leg a little.
Yes, I think most EU players would be very happy to get a server list merge. Sure, youll get a few idiots wholl complain but
132 new character slots
tell me, have you ever seen someones head explode due to altisis?
Ill admit freely, Id be a little disgruntled to be @Dante_EU but I consider it a small price to pay for the benefits I would be getting. Issue a global name change token after the merge and give people the chance to make the change if they want to. Add to this a week or two of free server transfers so I can ship some of my alts to NA servers and my joy would be complete.
If I were to speculate, I would think that this is already something that is on the minds of the Devs and NCSoft. Only in the last few months have we seen the EU servers moved to the same location as the NA servers. That, I feel, is a very positive sign. Well, I can live in hope at least.

I would say it should be done the same as the forum merge was. Append EU/NA to the end of the globals.
|
- Send email 30 days ahead of time to inactive accounts with inactivity of greater than six months warning about the merge.
- Run script on globals similar to character name script.
Assuming, of course, that this is possible.
So if we have an EU player and a NA player who both have a global of, say (making one up - NO idea if this is in use) @Farenheit451, but the NA player hasn't played since issue 7, the EU player (the active one) would get it.
If both are active, append the _NA or _EU. (Is there a size limit to globals? DOn't recall.) And reset the global name change - hopefully without resetting EVERYONE (again) - so they can fix/change back/pick something better.
(As an aside, the regular "inactive name" script hasn't been run in years - check name "That guy with bots," Pinnacle - temporary account set up back when they did the SG grant. Inactive, level 1, last on 1170 days ago, name still "in use." I try to make someone with the name from time to time to see if it's been run again.)
Wasn't the OP suggesting not necessarily a merge but the opening up of all servers to all players?
This wouldn't cause there to be a need to have some players give up/change their names as they would already have them on the servers that they play on.... just like someone switching main serves from Victory to Virtue for example.
I think server merging is a separate issue but an "experiment" like the OP's suggestion could pave the way for a server merge in the future.

We are talking about the account GLOBAL names. The ones that appear on Friends lists and are used to send Emails.
@superdude
@Pyro679
There are many players who share the same GLOBAL names because the NA and EU servers are completely seperate from each other. So if/when the server lists get merged half of those people will have to get a new GLOBAL name for their accounts.
Check the European Forum Section for this and you get pages and pages of the same idea and ways to implement it. This is a VERY VERY often asked feature.

If the merge the server list, we gain lots of new slots, choices, and stuff.
I dont care if I have to change my global name.
We EU players do want this!
At first I thought that their would be lots of complaints about the lag but then you reminded me about the servers moving here anyway, so, if that's the case I really see no reason to continue to keep the lists separate. However, I would be mightily upset to become *_NA after having been a patron for so long, to have my name be ninja'd out from under me would be unpleasent. Would I get over it...maybe...I would prefer not too. Perhaps a seniority clause could be added to the activity clause as far as who ends up getting the _NA or _2 flag.
