  1. I'll cut and paste my answer from the other thread where he asked.

Assuming you are starting the game up via the regular shortcut or launcher.

In the game's folder, not the launcher, there is a file called addcache (it's identified as a XML Document by Windows). Delete it. It should be recreated with the correct command line parameters.
  2. Sorry, sounds like you will have to take this up with actual support.

Wait, have you set the NCSoft Launcher up for Europe or North America? It's under File->Settings;Advance Tab;Region drop down. Give that a shot.
  3. The registry entry is an artifact from an earlier time. Monday I did a fresh install of both the launcher and the game, deleting the registry entry for the game in it's entirety to see what wasn't referenced anymore. One of the keys no longer created was Auth. Also now missing were the key for lightmaps (pre CoV I think) as well as the web page URL that the old updater referenced and the game's current version number, which is now stored in the game folder as version.ini.

Sorry Ultimus but your title reminds me of back in the day when some people thought the monitor was the computer.

I blame the Apple iMac (IT HAS NO FLOPPY DISK!!) for that perception.

    autorenew?

But good luck finding them time cards in stores other than during the Xmas holidays. Not sure if Game cards (30 day time card, game activation, 30 day jet pack) have been pulled or not with the onset of CoH:Freedom.
  6. If they made it so only some power sets could use some powers while using the board that their would be such an outcry by players using other power sets that's best right now to make nothing work for everybody.

But I agree, rather see suppression than toggle off all powers, not just travel toggles like beast and ninja run does.
  7. So it's OK now to have historical figures with a twist because there was a time long ago that they got hit with the generic hammer, with great abandon by the GMs when reported.

It'll be nice to recreate my Cyborg Lincoln. He's not really Lincoln, just one of the first bionic men made by the government in the 70s who had recently suffered a brain infection due to his aging optical implant and now thinks he's a reanimated through technology Abe Lincoln. A black colored chin plate makes a passable Lincoln beard.

I also had an Einstein energy blaster who used teleport and a Hawkins in a power suit grav controller. This was all back in late 2004/early 2005.

Still needs to be fixed asap.
And since they broke up all the previous booster packs into separate costume, power, emote, aura and capes sub-groups that those as well as all the included pieces really need to be marked by some means as already owned in the store.

But this is what this VIP Head Start is for, identify the problems with the new item market and fix them before trying to entice new and returning players.
  9. The old updater was obsoleted beginning of August if I remember right.

That announcement didn't help anyone who reinstalled the game from DVD or an old backup and not dig through the announcements.

They should have made the web page that the old updater displayed point you to the new updater.

I can see some returning players who never uninstalled the game getting confused/annoyed.

Edit: Gee, it does. Sort of surprised someone thought of that.

With real cash, not our VIP monthly quota. But we do get one a month as VIP.

What they wanted to do is to give you your Paragon Rewards as a lump based on subscription plan so if you subscribe in bulk you'll get all your Paragon Rewards at once.

They are sort of having problems getting that to work so one a month for now.

    Real Steel

The Twilight Zone version had a tragic feel to it while this treatment looks like it's going for the upbeat, father bonding with son, underdog wins at the end feel.

I'll wager that the original novel was closer to the Twilight Zone version while this movie has been focus grouped/product niche to death.
  13. Currently the some of Devs aren't red either. Synapse and Second Measure are coming up gold as well.
  14. My problem is I can't login, or stay logged in is a better description, while using my ISP's web accelerator proxy. I get the "welcome Father Xmas" message when I log in but when the forum comes up I'm still logged off.

This is really going to impact badly my rather tiny monthly data cap if I have to accelerator off.

    Real Steel

A version of the story was a Twilight Zone episode starring Lee Marvin titled Steel, same as the short story by Sci-Fi great Richard Matheson.
  16. It really looks like a transforming mecha ala Macross. This looks like the slow speed hover mode with the engine intakes in it's "arms". I imagine they fold up into the "body" and the wings swing open for flight.

    Another F2P ?

So they can fix all the launch week problems before they open it to the masses for Free and Premium play.

You want to make a good impression for new and returning players as well as making sure the Paragon Reward and Paragon Market quirks are fixed.
  18. There's at least one bunny girl looking for sword surfing.

    New EULA?

Yea, the DATA folder isn't part of the normal install but obviously the game is designed to read out of that folder if a file is present rather than using the one stored in a PIGG file.

The obvious reason for this is so the developers working on art, animation and sound assets can modifying an existing asset, say fixing a clipping problem, to test without depending on a developer who codes or rebuild the PIGG file it's in.

Now I can imagine that the code which checks the DATA folder first could easily be tweaked so it won't work in a release version Vs an internal build but since they haven't in all this time that they aren't that bothered by the fact.
  20. It's the whole "Limited" term that's fuzzy. If it was just purchasable it would have said "Purchasable" but it doesn't. So everyone read into what "Limited" meant.

Some thought it may mean no Set IOs but common ones were available. Maybe they limited recipe and iSalvage so you would be running back and forth between the market and where the crafting tables were, not to mention the Inf cap would limit what you could try to buy.

Everyone was wrong. I don't think anyone thought of a diamond shaped, multiple tiered scheme that would grant some Preemies with access while others are lumped in with the Freebies.

I understand why they did it. You don't want you long term subscribers to simply drop the the Premium level but on the other hand you would like to do something for former players who popped back in to check out the game, something better than what Freebies get.

If they came right out and told us "Limited" means some will get it, some won't based on the length of their previous subscription but it's still purchasable then they wouldn't have to fight the momentum of assumptions.
  21. I was home that day.

I listen in the mornings back then to CBS 880 out of New York. They talked about how 9/11 was some kind of 911 test day with mock emergency drills. That was around 8am.

After doing some stuff around the condo I fired up the browser and started to peruse the various tech sights like I would normally do at work. For some reason none of the usual news sites wouldn't come up. CNN, MSNBC, Foxnews simply timed out (I was and still am on dial-up where I live). Finally I got a partial page from CNN that said the WTC towers have fallen. My first thought was "wow, CNN got their web site hacked". So I went to slashdot and found out that it was true. They had links to the BBC and CBC news sites which weren't being crushed. It took me 15 minutes of reading those sites before it even occurred to me that I'm home, turn on the TV.

I called in to check on my friends in work to see how they were doing.

I called my folks to see how they were doing.

And I watched TV that day. It was interesting as a side note to see which cable channels were carrying which major network's newscast. You saw NBC on SciFi and Bravo, ABC on ESPN, Fox on FX.

I remember the next day that my usual selection of webcomics all had special comics that day or the next time they published.

I remember visiting my folks the next day and notice the lack of contrails in the sky as we walked around their neighborhood since all commercial traffic were grounded.

I remember feeling rage, anger and more rage. My fuse was shorten considerably for the next year, I'm was usually a lot more patient with people but it wasn't a good year to be a talker sitting near me at any movie I was at.

So like every year, I will once again flail my emotions raw watching all the History Channel programming after today's memorial events are televised.

I'm planning on comfort food for dinner, Mac and Cheese, and a sleep aid before bed.

At least we finally got Bin-Laden.

I just hope that nothing bad happens today.
  22. I'm sorry that he's passed on. While I periodically gave him grief over his cut n paste news threads, his love and knowledge of Doctor Who made him a resource to those who weren't intimately familiar with the show's long history.

See you when ever Lord of Time.

  23. Your rig is a tad long in the tooth, G31/E8400/8500GT/2GB.

If you are on a budget then upgrading to 4GB of memory (yes I know the system won't "see" all 4GB but what it does see is still better than 2GB) and just about any DX11 class video card that costs more than $100 would be an improvement (as long as the power supply can handle the power requirements of the video card).

A longer term solution is what Valenna suggests.

DDR3-1600 memory is about $10 a GB and Win 7 64-bit is a must. 1.5 volt CAS 9 or lower is desirable.

The i5-2500K is a tad over $200 and allows you to overclock as long as it is in either a P67 or Z68 motherboard.

I'm currently favoring nVidia over AMD because of the hit or miss driver problems with AMD cards and the GTX 560Ti is a nice card for around $250.

A good quality 80Plus certified 650 watt power supply like the Corsair suggested will easily power this.

Additional parts could include a 3rd party CPU heatsink to keep the CPU a lot cooler than what Intel ships with it, important in hot climates or if you plan to overclock the CPU.

If you aren't skilled at building a PC then places like iBUYPOWER and CyberPowerPC have reasonable prices where you can pick and choose from a variety of parts. Some of there prebuilt systems are available at NewEgg under desktops.
  24. Well not every mission is available at Ouroboros but all or nearly all of the story arcs are.

    I think.

The Ouroboros platform is in the shape of a giant sundial. The badge Chaos mentioned is at the top of the gnomon, the part of the sundial that casts the shadow. If you don't have flight or are a klutz with superjump you can always run up the cable from the platform to the top of the gnomon to get it.
