Real Steel
Personally I kind of thought it sounded a little silly when I read a synopsis of what the movie would be about back before it started filming (or possibly just right around the time it started). I'll actually be quite entertained (in more ways than one) if it turns out to be a really good movie.

I'll probably see it for the same reason I used to watch Battle Bots...namely robots beating the hell outta each other.
I loved Robot Jox! That's the one where they used a chain weapon and it sawed one of the mech's arms off, right?
A version of the story was a Twilight Zone episode starring Lee Marvin titled Steel, same as the short story by Sci-Fi great Richard Matheson.

I saw the trailer for this movie in the theater. I told my buddy that the trailer promised us robot fights and that if I didn't get them I would be very disappointed.
Im interested in this too its about the only oen im even remotely considering paying for.
So you mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword; and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

I understand this movie has a bit of a sci-fi legacy attached to it. But since they're giving us a movie based on the "Battleship" board game why not one based on "Rock'em Sock'em Robots"?

The Twilight Zone version had a tragic feel to it while this treatment looks like it's going for the upbeat, father bonding with son, underdog wins at the end feel.
I'll wager that the original novel was closer to the Twilight Zone version while this movie has been focus grouped/product niche to death.

Saw the trailers for this flick and the first thing that popped into my mind was, "They made a movie based on Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots?". According to wikipedia, it appears that it's based on a short story from '56.
It does look interesting, I'll give it that. But I just can't seem to get past the resemblence to RESER... |

Beast Wars Season 2 had a scene in an episode where Rhinox and Inferno started slugging it out Rock Em Sock Em Robots style and it ended with Inferno's head popping up with a ding sound. Rhinox looked at Inferno quizzically for a moment then after Megatron knocked him out he pushed Inferno's head back down.

Oddly enough, that largely parallels my opinion of the current Transformers movies. Go figure eh.

Cheesy movie, good for drinking games, spawned a couple of quasi sequels.....
....though it was still better then Time Rider...
I remember watching this along with a whole cadre of films from Full Moon Entertainment such as Trancers series, Dollman, Demonic Toys, Puppet Master series, etc. RoboJox wasn't part of that production group but it was the kind of movie I could always fine at my local Mom and Pop video rental store on a Friday night in the late 80s/early 90s.
