  1. Not to downplay it, it's a lot of work regardless, I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of the ships, the bridge of the Star Destroyer, etc. are rotoscope from the original movies. Still it looks fantastic.

There happens to be a write up on Ivy Bridge i5s yesterday at Xbit Labs. They got the i5-3570K up to 4.4GHz from it's stock 3.4GHz with minimal BIOS tweaking and no voltage changes. That said, it's temperature even with a huge $60 air cooler got to 81c (that's very warm). Non K i5s can still be overclocked by 400MHz (600MHz with Turbo Boost) which is still more than 10%.

    2) Is the performance jump from an i5 to i7 worth the hit in price.
Normally not with games as much. Again check out the article I linked to which they included the i7-3770K as well as the older i5-2500K, i7-2700K and the sad AMD FX-8150. Most of the performance gains are close are around the percentage due to the slightly faster clock speed of the i7. Applications that can spread it's calculations across as many threads as the system can handle do perform better in the i7, sometimes a lot (like video compression and 3D ray-trace rendering). But if you are just looking to browse and game, the around $100 premium for an i7 just isn't worth it. Better spending that $100 on a better graphics card, more memory or toward an SSD.
  3. I take it that Ironik isn't thrilled over OSC's politics/beliefs.
  4. Yes they've made Blu-ray readers and Blu-ray/DVD burners for a few years now. They are a bit more expensive that plain old DVD burners. A Plextor retail Blu-ray/DVD burner is $140 at NewEgg. A Blu-ray reader is anywhere from $60-80.

Both display adapters are poor, the 8400GS is better. The 6150LE is part of the motherboard chipset, there may be an setting in the BIOS to disable it.

Game boosters and PC optimizers are nothing but digital snake oil in my book. However that said there is one on CNet's download site that they reviewed and liked. I do not vouch it's effectiveness or how annoying it might be as it pesters you to buy the pro version.
  5. They'll never get rid of driver's licenses, they'll just make them harder and more expensive to get.
  6. Really that needs to be a sticky on top of every forum like the rules and phishing warning as well as the website and launcher. But since the website and launcher is web content I expect Seattle will get around to it next week the earliest, September 25th the latest.
  7. A curious line from Asylum of the Daleks keep popping up in my head. Early on while on the Dalek spaceship Amy asked The Doctor "What do we do" and his reply is "Make them remember you." I guessing that's a hint to the whole Amy and Rory's last adventures story arc.

Yes I know of some of the spoilers about their last episode, just trying not to spoil it for everyone else.

I wish the people realize that no game company on Earth honestly believes they can make a "WoW killer" anymore. WoW is an outlier, a fluke, the exception to the rule. Companies are now hoping for maybe a 10th of WoW's numbers.
  9. Actually it's an old business model, see Diablo II with Battlenet.
  10. The Trial of a Time Lord I think. It was a whole season story arc so I don't remember when The Master showed up but I'm pretty sure it's in that story arc.

True but it has run up a LOT since late October 2008 when it hit bottom at 24,400 KrW. Then Aion came out, became their biggest game, game revenues jumped 80% between 2008 and 2009 and the stock goes nuts.
  12. Who's up for a Costco run to buy pallets of TP?

Or we could go all Bond villainy and induce the North Koreans to invade the south. That should hurt NCSoft's bottom line.

No. In a society where your elder/superior is always right, the customer is the low man on the totem pole.
  14. Some odd choices there Hyper. Definitely with CPU, memory and optical drive.

Would have gone with the i5-3570K over the i5-2500K. It's only a $10 difference in performance but some significant performance boost in gaming according to this review looking at the impact of various CPUs as they relate to gaming.

16GB is nice and all but CAS 10? Really now? Yes it's not that much more expensive than 8GB CAS 8 memory at that speed but CAS 10 seriously impacts latency and streaming bandwidth. Plus is anyone actually exceeding 8GB while playing a game and not multiboxing?

Plextor is the Cadillac of optical drives. Great drives. But you can get an OEM Asus for $20 (sans Lightscribe) and an OEM Sony for $18. Yes the Plextor is a retail box kit but that's a bit of a premium for screws, a SATA cable and a CD with software you could download from their website. Oh, and a nice box.

I have no problems with the rest of your choices. I know you are Mr SSD but I would have loved to see a conventional very large hard drive as well for bulk storage.

I don't think you can do that in any other game either so it's a wash.

Game revenue took a dive directly after MA was released.
As some pointed out, correlation isn't the same as causality.

And I agree with Uber. It's a pretty weak reason to leave a game because others abused a new system or because how the devs tried to fix it.

If I didn't use the system, why would I care if we get zillions of AE babies or that someone was grinding for skeeball tickets so they could make billions at Wentworths. The lack of grinding is what makes this game so unlike NCSoft's Korean imports. I explained to friends what people were doing in AE and they replied "how is that fun?"

If MA wasn't tied to a box release then it's possible that the devs would have plugged some of the earlier exploits before it's release but it was a box release and they had to get it to stores by the promised delivery date. Also as a minor aside it was also the only box Mac release. I can also understand why it was a box release. The concept of player created content for an MMO was revolutionary idea at the time. There's always been mission modding communities for FPS games but this was a honest to God mission builder. Lets make some noise about it.

I just don't get why someone would leave just because of MA. I can understand the straw/camel/back or five year burnout but not this.

    Heroes and Hooligans
    Masks and Malcontents

Or are those too much like Chutes and Ladders?

Does NCSoft own GW? Or is it like with CoH where NCSoft had to purchase it at some point from Cryptic?
Since NCSoft bought ArenaNet, lock, stock and barrel in 2002, ArenaNet would either have to buy themselves back from NCSoft as well as the IP. It would probably be easier to dissolve and reform as a new company and raise money as "the team that created GW and GW2".

Of course it doesn't. I'm guessing it's some kind of MMO strategy sim. I'm probably wrong.

I looked at the B&S review that's linked to at Massively and watched a video or two, the breast physics is hilarious. It makes Dead or Alive: Beach Volleyball look tame. I have to admit they got sashaying down for female characters.
