  1. Personally, I'd always try to stuff in the Resist Energies and Elements as when you're defense gets debuffed that's the only thing protecting you from those types of damage.

You don't really need Electrifying Fences and Ball Lightning unless you don't have anything better for IO mules. They cause redraw, and you already have enough AoE in Spin.

Slotting in Strike and Slash is a bit excessive, I'd put only the Mako quad besides the KinCos.

Other than that I don't see any flaws in your build. It could probably be optimized further and I'd do some things differently, but it's pretty solid.

I grabbed stamina and was hoping to grab tough as well, but that really limits the options I have (either grab little to no patrons or I'll have to skip a bunch in my primary/secondary).
Swipe and Taunt. One of Eviscerate and Shockwave (depending on your taste).

Grounded if you get a -KB IO. Power Surge.

That's about it. If you take everything else, you will have room for Stamina, a travel power + prereq, Hasten, Weave and two more powers of your picking. You don't need patron powers for a Claws toon, except as IO mules - you got everything they can offer (except for the summon but doh).

For max performance, I say nothing but SR. The only secondary you can soft cap and have permahaste - even without purples.

Others can perform very well too though. You'll have a much smoother ride with WP for example, and I bet you can get that toon even more survivable (softcap + wicked regen), at the cost of permahaste. Inv, ElA, FA, DA, anything will fit with claws... it's just that you can much easier rig some of those secondaries for immortality, and the others for permahaste. You can do both with SR, however. It will be a bit squishier than WP or Inv rigged for immortality, but with scaling resists and some +HP you should be fine in all but the most extreme situations.
  4. Spin does more damage than Foot Stomp (even including Rage), has lower recharge and end cost. You also get it much earlier. The only things FS has going for it are the radius and knockdown. The radius means you won't have to wait a few seconds after jumping into a spawn for them to surround you, and KD is nice.

If you're looking for absolute max performance, I'd say claws. It's also much more comfortable while leveling due to SS getting its only AoE at 32. If you don't care about top performance that much, it boils down to taste I guess.
  5. I've noticed that mobs run away much more than previously.

30%. You could get a few mobs if you saturate it, but that's still crap IMO. Although, Whirling is a decent attack so take it anyway.

Well, I always prefer to have both the first and second attack while leveling, my attack chain is much more filled that way. The usual incentive to go with the stronger of the two was because of late game where the weakest one is superfluous, but with abundant free/vetspecs and dual builds that ain't an issue anymore... I usually respec/branch to second build at 33 and kick the weakest one out if the rest of the attacks are enough. In some sets, they aren't, but in WM, they are IIRC.
  7. Trying to stack stuns with WM is not a very good idea. The first two attacks have a tiny chance to stun (10% and 20% respectively) so they're useless for that purpose. Clobber is a guaranteed mag 3 stun so you could stack it with OG on bosses but meh, mezzing one boss ain't much of a deal for a brute.

    End usage will be horrible.

If you want to go WM/DA play WM as you would with any other toon, and just perhaps stack clobber with OG. Skipping Jawbreaker for the first two attacks is a baaaaad idea.

    What to pick?

I have a stone/ela 50 and I it was excellent fun leveling, with the only exception that he felt a bit squishy in in the 30s until he got tough. But that should be remedied with the new Energize power.

As SM/ you have excellent mitigation in the form of knockdowns and Fault, and you have one of the strongest single-target damage capabilities. You get your first and only AoE damage power at 32 - some love it, some hate it, I love it despite its long activation time. /Ela will give you increased damage output, blow away all your endurance worries (very important with SM) and give you a 20% boost in global recharge which is a huge bonus.

My endgame build is specced for AoE damage (via patron powers) and recharge, and its a beast.

Forgot to answer your specific questions.

Yes. You'll need it to sustain your attacks during prolonged fights.

Yes. Awesome for AVs, great for everything with Electric Fences.

Steadfast is the cheapest variant (Acrobatics is not very practical). If you have the inf, get a Zephyr as it's much more practical for slotting, as you can see in the builds we posted.

    Claws/Fiery Aura

I second Skyline's suggestion, unless you have the inf to build something like this:

This amount of global recharge will allow you to achieve the optimal claws ST attack chain of Follow Up, Slash, Focus, Strike. With the above build, you'll be able to sustain it for about 5 minutes, with the assumption you can saturate Consumption on each casting.

If you don't have that amount of inf, you're better off building for defense and then for recharge, as without purples you probably won't be able to achieve enough recharge for permahaste, and hence the optimal attack chain. Other than that, the difference between these builds is minimal (except one has high defense, ofc). For example, Skyline's build has an 18 s recharge time in Healing Flames when Hasten is off, and 13.7 when on. The recharge in his Spin is 5.77 with Hasten, 4.48 without. The above build has permahasten (well it's actually a second off, but what the heck) and has 12.2 s of recharge in Healing Flames and 4.06 s in Spin.

Slotting for defense and then recharge, you should be able to get about 30% defense to melee or about 20% to all positions, as well as about 55% global recharge. That amount of recharge is enough for anything except achieving the optimal attack chain.
  11. Order of power picks is irrelevant for all except the last two, because then you can only spend a limited amout of slots on them. I usually my travel powers during mid 20s so I can have more power early on, but that's really a preference. It also doesn't matter much for an endgame build unless you intend to malefactor with it.
  12. You have +45% global accuracy. Slotting the hami in Strike is wasteful, better to go with to something that also gives you endredux or recharge, such as the Mako quad or one of the many triples (like you did with Slash and FU). Dunno why you had that heal/end/rech in DP, I've replaced it with another heal/rech - you won't miss that bonus to your regen. That Devastation in Focus is unnecessary, better use the slot elsewhere. Same with Red Fortune in Invincibility. Those Titanium coatings in TI and Tough net you 0.03 end per second, not worth it. That 11% psionic def and 6% res won't do you much good. You forgot the Steadfast +def unique.

Oh look that's freed up 4 slots. Nice, if I put 3 of those in brawl for some Kinetic Combat we get more S/L def, and we can put the last one in Strike (under the assumption that you'll be spamming it as hell, this needs to go into your most spammable attack) for the Hecatomb proc (big damage proc + spammable attack = big extra damage). There, and don't forget to doublestack FU. And now you need only 2 mobs with Invincibility to be softcapped

  13. Your attack slotting is crap (lacking accuracy and damage). Only Focus and Shockwave are slotted properly and those two won't get you through the fight alone. You have too much end recovery which you pay with sub-optimal slotting. You are using 4 Makos to get their +hp, but you could use 4 Kinetic Combats for the same purpose AND get a massive boost to your S/L defenses.

In short, you have sacrificed your damage and made some poor slotting choices to get an increase from about 125 hp/s to 135. That's not worth it IMHO, but I'll try to fix it with a few tweaks.

So, I've lowered your end recovery (you have plenty left, and don't forget claws has a 20% inherent discount), rearranged a few slot choices to keep their bonuses but get some spiffy new stuff in addition, and removed a bit of defense to E/N/F/C to give you a lot of defense to S/L. End result: hp, regeneration and recharge are the same as before, but now you have nicely slotted attacks, some global accuracy, and vastly increased survivability:

Personally, I'd do a major overhaul of the build, but i don't wanna mess with your power picks etc.
  14. Well, I really have those sets in there for their sets bonuses, but was wondering about the procs since I already have them. Thanks for the replies.
  15. Do the Perf Shifter and Gaussian's procs have a chance to activate only once per casting of these powers or once per mob hit?
  16. In your first post you say you like taking out baddies as fast as possible... Stone Armor shoots you in the leg in that regard. It has penalties to your recharge rates and damage.

WP is a good pick. You won't be able to slot for mad recharge, but you can still have a decent amount of recharge in and be nigh unkillable. Go for it if you like it.
  17. Exxar

    First Time Brute

The easiest secondary to play is Willpower. As for the primary... I'd recommend Super Strength, Stone Melee, Battle Axe, War Mace or Claws. You can't go wrong with any of those. All have good mitigation in the forms of knockdowns or stuns (Claws is not easy to use for that as the others though), as well as a mix of single target and AoE damage (SS and SM get their only AoE attacks at 32 though).

Get Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge and Quick recovery as soon as possible, throw in Stamina when you're comfortable with your other power picks, and you're good to go.
  18. Most of the secondaries synergize well with Claws. Dark, Electric and Fire have a damage aura which benefits greatly from Follow Up (especially double stacked) and all of those sets lend well to quick killing as mitigation (slotting for recharge).

Energy Aura and Super Reflexes are gods once soft capped. You will have a harder time with EA though, both leveling up and soft capping it. Both can have high recharge in addition to the soft cap.

SR and Electric have a power that boosts your global recharge by 20%, lending themselves well to what you described.

Willpower and Invulnerability can make you extremely tough, but don't lend themselves to high recharge builds as well as the other secondaries.

    Stone armor... you don't wanna.

I'd recommend taking either SR, or one of the sets with a damage aura. All three from the latter group are viable, each having its own pros and cons. Dark has the best heal and some nice utility powers, but is very tough on endurance. Fire also has a great heal, decently mitigates any possible end problems via Consume, and has extra damage on top of all that in Burn. It's a tad squishy though. Elec has higher resistances, provides the best end management tools in Power Sink and Energize, has an okay heal (Energize again), and gives a boost to recharge. If you get as much recharge as you can, you should also be able to get anywhere from 20% to 35% defense against S/L or melee and 15% to 20% against the rest. If you take SR you can soft cap all positions, have maxed def debuff resistance, and permahaste to boot. You won't have a damage aura or any toys, but you can take Aid Self if you wish.
  19. Exxar

    Spines/Elec Help

This is what I could whip up using typed defenses. It's got 0.3 end/s better recovey, at a significant price of defense. Not satisfied. Generally, sets that give typed defense bonuses are better geared at creating tough toons, with greater end and hp as opposed to positional sets that are better for recharge.

    Spines/Elec Help

Making the build made me realize the end drain that two damage auras and several 3-slotted toggles create. I'm not even sure that Power Sink and Energize can mitigate that:

Perhaps a typed defense approach would be better, as you get +end, +hp and +def to N/E within 4 slots of Eradication, that goes into PBAoE powers.

If you save them in Mids folder then the uninstallation won't touch them, and the new installation won't overwrite them either. If you're saving them somewhere else than it's even more so.

    Spines/Elec Help

    Some general advice on powers:

Lightning Field - a must have power, it contributes great damage and you won't have endurance problems because of Power Sink and Energize.

Grounded - optional with -KB IOs, but a great place to put the Steadfast +3% def IO.

Energize - frankenslot it with 4 heal/recharge IOs or put 5 Doctored Wounds in it. Fire it off as necessary as a heal, and since that will be often enough you'll have decent mileage out of its end redux.

Power Sink - slot it with 4 Performance Shifters and together with Energize watch all of your endurance problems disappear, provided you took Stamina.

Combat jumping - put a LotG +rech in it and it will provide you with +2% defense to everything. I consder it an essential power on all brutes and scrappers because of that, and the fact that you can stuff Zephyr into it (which you should, at least two of them).

Travel power - put the entire Zephyr inside. Very nice set bonuses, not to mention additional KB protection.

Stamina - if you can spare 4 slots, put 4 Performance Shifters inside, including the proc. If not, 3-slot it with the Perf proc and 2 lvl 50 endmod IOs. The proc is better then a third endmod IO, and even on par with the first one as well as being immune to recovery debuffs.

Health - for the Miracle and Numina uniques, in that order. Unless you have enough end ofcourse.

Fighting pool - if you're going for typed instead of positional defenses, you'll want to stuff 4 Kinetic Combats into boxing as a mule. Tough and Weave are nobrainers, put a fourpack of LotG into the latter (including the +rech one) to get a nice accuracy bonus, but you can skimp on the 4th slot if you really can't spare any. Tough gets 4 Reactive Armors if you're going for typed defense, or 5 Aegis if you're going positional.

Now, on to some specifics of your last build.

Titanium coating is usually not worth slotting for +hp from my experience since there are plenty other sets that provide that 1.5% bonus in addition to the stuff you also want from them.

Move that Steadfast from Charged Armor over to Grounded. That IO in Grounded is giving you almost nothing, and you'll be able to stuff something nicer in Charged Armor.

Lightning field - erm, what are you trying to pull here? You can get better AoE bonuses elsewhere, so you can stuff Obliteration inside for +def to melee and +recharge. Energy Manipulator proc... Really, get Obliteration inside and don't worry about end usage, you have Power Sink and Energize, remember?

Power Sink - No. Will not do. You need as much recharge in there as possible - see my guidelines above.

Power Surge - In my experience it is better to replace it with another power, even just for muling sets, as it doesn't get much mileage. If it does, you have wrongly built your toon :P

Ancillary Pool - If you need to hold something with Petrifying gaze that means you're doing something very very wrong since you could already have killed it. Dark Blast - I can see you picking this power if you want to have a bit better single-target efficiency than the standard Spines/ scrapper. In my opinion you go Spines/ if you want to be an AoE deathmachine so stick with the concept. You can go Body Mastery for Perfection of Body (although I don't see it of much use here because of /Elec) or try to stuff in Fireball. Otherwise, rearrange those two power and slot picks for better set bonuses.

Static Shield - ... yeah. Get it at 10 and stuff in a useful resistance set.

I'll post an example build if I get the time.
  23. Easy. Throw Build Up outta the window and fiddle with slotting a bit to get your defense numbers back.

If you love BU that much that you don't wanna get LR instead... go with that if you like it, but you could go much much better than that performance-wise.
  24. And if you're looking for a tough endgame build, here's a sample:
