    I mean that is what I think a RP hero would be like. Oh well...not like I would associate with folks who act like that to others anyway.
    Yeee-ah. I'm big on role-play, but not at the expense of my team's performance. I think I'd just drop team and find a group more willing to, y'know, stop the guys who are currently trying to hurt/kill/destroy people/property than bicker about what my character used to do. :P

    Edit: Err, whoops. Quoted the wrong person ^_^ But you get the idea. Basically agree with quoted.

    That made me giggle because I thought the exact same thing when I got the big bag of shadows on my old DDC. I can't wait to hit 32 (Currently 20) on my D3.

    I read this thread all the way through expecting I could offer some small tidbit of advice from what I learned from the DDC-side of things, and ironically enough ended up learning a few things myself to employ when I respec my 'fender in a couple of levels.

    Thanks everyone that's posted here, including OP. I haven't played in months, so this was a heck of a refresher course for me to clear out the cobwebs
  3. It took me a couple of tries before I could finally make a VEAT despite numerous login attempts (with several of my over-20 villains) when I first got back, but it eventually kicked in and let me make a shiny new Widow

    Granted now I don't know if I'll keep her or not. Stupid altitis.
  4. Might make an appearance now that I've gotten my sanity straightened out, though I seriously doubt anyone will remember me. I've only run with a couple of major SGs over the years like C.A.P.E.S., and kept the rest to low-key RP

    Seeing the likes of Ascendant again would totally make it worthwhile though
  5. Funny thing about the infiltration idea is my poor Widow is coming from the other direction. She was supposed to be infiltrating Arachnos, as a young, ambitious Longbow scout. A year and a half later she's forgotten all about her old life - not exactly by choice - and exists as a loyal Arachnos agent.

    Now with GR here I'll probably take her at least as far as Rogue, probably eventually go full hero, after unlocking the PPP (Since, from what I've read, there are no APPs proliferated to 'em)
  6. I've noticed a slight flicker on my Praetorian's Enhancement screen, but that's about it. Thought I'd mention it though since I'm also running an nVidia chipset - GTX 465, Windows 7 64-bit, latest drivers.
  7. Ah hah!

    It occured to me that both my afforementioned villains were in co-op zones, so I moved my 35 Dom out of RWZ and into a proper Villain zone, and logged her out there. Poof, instant SoA access
  8. Logged in with both my 23 and 35 villains, though unfortunately I'm at 14 characters, so I can't check on my main server yet. I'll check again once the store comes back up though
  9. This may just be related to the store being down (and therefore, my being unable to create any new characters on my primary server) or the fact I've been gone for a couple of issues (), but when I attempted to create a Soldier of Arachnos on another server, they remain grayed out/unselectable.

    It's not super-important right now (I was just going to play with a costume options then jump back in to work on my new Praetorian MM), but thought I'd ask anyway. Strike while the iron's hot, and all that

    Edit: Nevermind. Seems to be working now, either due to the amount of time expired, or the fact I moved my 35 Dom from RWZ to a proper villain zone

    ... Sorry.
  11. I've been duoing a lot the last couple of days, and I've noticed that with an irritatingly increasing frequency, missions are popping nothing but bosses. Logging out and back in resets the mission to "normal" spawns. I'll try and detail as much as possible, but let me first say that, no, there are no settings changes going on here.

    For several issues now I've seen something similar solo, where every spawn pops as an Lt. I've /bugged that one several times, but I've never seen anything like this until now.

    Characters I've seen this happen on are many, almost exclusively low-level (1-25) enemy groups. I don't think I've seen it at all beyond that point on my higher-level characters.
    * Lost (Non-Pariahs)
    * Council
    * Skulls
    * Hellions
    * Outcasts
    etc.

    - Happens completely at random

    - Happens in: regular missions AND Mission Architect (both others' created arcs and my own), particularly scanner/newspaper missions

    - Occurs on both Heroes and Villains

    - Difficulty settings remain at +0/x0 default setting

    - Logging out forces the mission to reset, and typically spawns within normal mission parameters (i.e. minions and Lts, with the occasional boss, but not "a boss in place of every single spawn")

    - Happened since: POSSIBLY Issue 7/8 when the "Missions only spawning minions" bug was fixed.

    Sidenote: My scrapper discovered the true meaning of Nirvana because of this bug, but my Defender is next to useless at those levels

    Also, I did a forum search, but all I could find on it was regarding the Halloween event spawns, which may or may not use seperate code.

    That's everything I can think of. Given that there's not a lot of posted information that I could find, it makes me wonder if I'm just cursed Anyone who's played Asheron's Call back in the day knows about the Wi flag, which I was one of the unlucky bearers thereof until they finally fixed the errant and elusive bit of code

    My decision is to take a night off and see if they can get the patch patched.
    I'm strongly drawing in on this myself. I dropped in the missing file which the updater refused to download before, and now says it's going to take an hour to "fix" (and by fix, it probably means corrupt again ), so popcorn and my collection of "So bad they're good" movies is looking better and better.
  13. Well that was kind of comical. Logged into Outbreak on a new Ice/Ice tanker, and it looked like a winter wonderland

    Deleted the afforementioned .pigg and am anxiously anticipating the results.

    As an aside, I noticed the quality of the "Body" generic green pre-costume-application model during character creation was very ... quirky. I don't know quite how to explain it other than that it had multiple little square blocks throughout popping up and fading, which is probably related to this.

    Oddly I wasn't having any trouble earlier (Logged in my mastermind, ran a few missions, logged out for a couple of hours, and came back to Outbreak In Winter)

    Edit: Interestingly, it looks like I'm missing texWorldSW.pigg on my live folder, which is present in my test folder (Not in closed beta, so I haven't been logging onto the test server. I've just been keeping it updated for a smaller open beta download )

    On both my Bots/Dark and my Mercs/Traps I find myself abusing the crap out of numpad binds to throw wayward pets into passive/back to defensive to keep them from running past (and negating) the field of death, be it a Tar Patch or Caltrops/Acid Mortar/Poison Trap

    This table from the Wiki shows you a ranking of all enhancements. Key take away: Level 17 tripple IOs are equal to level 49 (-1 level) SOs and you can slot them at level 14. Level 21 Dual IOs are better than level 50 SOs (+0 level) and you can slot them at level 18. You can't slot an SO until level 22. Level 20 triple IOs are better than level 53 SOs (+3 level, "best SO you can slot) and you can slot those at level 17. So just from that, I'd recommend IOing before you SO or DO. Your mileage may vary.

    Cost of IOs vs SOs (with thanks to Catwhoorg for the math). Again, the take away message is go with IOs from the lowest level possible and never waste your time/inf with SOs. Cost of purchased SOs starting at level 25 and updating every 5 levels through 50 (so no "greening up" and you let them lose effectiveness, for the cheapest possible path): 266,112 Inf. Crafting a memorized generic level 25 IO: ~60,000 (salvage cost varies).

    Honestly, there is no reason to go with SOs unless they drop and you have an open slot. By the time you can slot them (level 22), you can already get higher bonuses for less inf by using cheap IO sets (starting at level 14).

    When you look at the effects of exemplaring, things look even worse for SOs. Frankenslotted with duals an triples you can exemp down to level 21 and keep 100% of your enhancement numbers because of the exemp rule that small bonuses don't get reduced. From the Wiki:
    You can't get bonuses that high from SOs alone, and even if you did use SOs when you exemp to 21 if you had 98% damage at 50, it would drop to under 30% at 21. The frankenslotted build above will have 93.5% at 50 and 93.5% at 21.

    Again, the take home message: Don't waste your time or your inf on SOs. Ever. At any level. Unless they drop and you have an open slot.

    But your mileage may vary.

    Edit: Go to the table of enhancement bonuses and look at how high the HO's rank. They are very, very good when you can use both/all of the bonuses.
    O_O

    I've always favored frankenslotting to SOs while leveling, and eeking out little set bonuses here and there, but I didn't realize they were so exemplar-friendly (Especially for the levels I like to exemp down to - typically the 20s doing Ouroboros stuff)

    I had to reread your source pages twice to be certain I was reading that right. That is freaking awesome.

    Have to agree with you there. I mean, I love the look and feel of my BS/SD scrapper. Diving into a pile of zombies and Whirling Sword/Slice taking out 3/4 of the pack in under five seconds is a beautiful thing, but if Brutes ever get Broadswords, I may never roll a scrapper again.

    That said, as far as actual content I still prefer CoV's ability to keep content mostly self-contained to the zone the contact is in rather than going from Atlas Park to Crey's Folly to Perez over the course of three missions, so it really depends on how much of GR's hero content takes place in new areas for me.
  17. I'll just say that I've found Sand's Numeric Keybind setup (Under Keybinds in the Guides sticky) to be incredibly intuitive and easy to use, especially when that one idiot minion decides he wants to run off to the other side of the map, then back again, dragging three groups back with him (Rare, but irritating when it does happen)

    As for actual sets, they're all fairly easy to learn, but Ninjas and Zombies do tend to need a little more babysitting via the GoTo command, else they'll hang out at range and blast.

    Dark is an awesome all-around debuffing set, and quite busy. Bots/Forcefield is probably the most ridiculously safe mastermind, but I've almost dozed off playing one. Traps takes a little getting used to I've found, with recharge times on things like Poison Trap, but I still love it.

    I have zero experience with Poison, Storm, or Thermal, but I've watched a Thugs/Pain MM do some scary stuff.

    Also seconding Time Bomb. I had it for a level on my Ice/Dev back in the day, long enough to give it some slots and see if it got any better. ... It didn't

    There's also the unfortunate fact that after the departure of Lighthouse and Ex Libris, a lot of our support from the staff dried up. No disrespect to our current community team (truly. The Scoop will remain something I'm very proud to have been a part of. It may end up moving or being finally and completely shut down, but I ain't leaving the Newsroom ever. I have my own desk. I keep stuff in it.
    Hey, at least the Scoop looked professional and had excellent writers. It's something to be proud of.

    Only a very small handful of people know I used to be a news editor (glorified copy-paster, basically. Do nothing job with a free VIP account =P) for IGN >_>

    Slightly OT, but just wanted to say thanks for pointing this out. I could not for the life of me figure out why my entire database seemed like it was giving me incorrect power numbers after the latest update (I was running off an old version, but got the new one for DP shinies) Didn't even know there was a PVP mode.

    Edit: Aaand then I see the big "Mode: PVE" button. Wow. See, this is why I never went to law school. My powers of observation are only slightly above those of your average cactus >_>
  22. For pure "messing around", Demon/Thermal.

    It really depends on how the set works out before I commit to a definite secondary, but probably Dark or Traps. Dark is just a fun, versatile secondary, and I'm starting to get into Traps now that my Merc is hitting SO-levels.

    I'm baaaaaack~

    Oh, sweet.

    This is going to further drive home that I am in fact certifiably insane, but meh. Anyone who's been around me long enough already knows that.

    Anyway, I was playing Rock Band 2 earlier tonight (I play bass almost exclusively), and I started wondering if I could do as elaborate a goth costume as my bassist has using the CoH costume creator. Unfortunately mummy wraps aren't satisfiably replicatable to my perfectionism, but my stand-in lead vocalist's outfit was much easier to do. Of course, during all this I've been playing with concepts to pair with it. I had a name in mind, but Sonic is just too bipolar in solo versus team, where I wanted something that could perform well in either role.

    I have logged, literally, hundreds of hours as a Dark/Dark corruptor, but I've never made it past 12 with the defender counterpart, so I was thinking I might try to change that.

    So! TLDR version! Let me just be the first to, in a long-winded, rambly, and roundabout way, thank you for updating your guide.
  24. To be honest, I set foot in Atlas for the first time in years last night, and reminded myself exactly why I never go there.

    It was like going back to Barrens chat in WoW, only it was in local >_> Reactivation weekend ends soon, if it hasn't already, so hopefully things will calm a bit.

    At least, that was the cycle of things when Turbine did reactivation weekends in LoTRO. Troll influx en masse, a few days of destroying any semblance of community, then all was right with Middle-Earth again.

    Edit:

    No further discussion with them, just ignore (or /ignore) and move on.

    I've had a much better time in-game since I implemented this rule.

    As for Atlas: Well, free reactivation means people can just pop back to be jerks...and it's easier to be a jerk blueside. (since people hang out more in Atlas than anywhere Redside)
    This sums it up for me. I should've read the entire thread first

    Ironically I used to expect redside to have the worst of it due to problems in the past with people using "RP" to justify being a jackass, but so far I've only ever put one villain on ignore, ever.
  25. Emerald_Phase

    Pets and Doors.

    I've been dismissing my pets before leaving missions, and so far I haven't run into the elevator dance since, but I'm going to keep an eye on it a bit longer before I say "This is definitely a workaround"

    I'll just leave it at "This is working so far". And for me, that means not charging headlong into a huge pack of Arachnos with my 'boys off goofing off by themselves somewhere else entirely
