Threads like this always seem to start up with the flawed thesis that the judgment of a random PUG leader recruiting via chat is the main determinant of whether or not characters of certain builds will be prevented from taking part in whatever content. It is just not the case.
People with SG's and communities of friends will run the content with each other regardless of the specific builds they have because they enjoy playing with each other. -

As a dark defender i can now pick up Dark Pit, Torrent, and NightFall - big "why would i do that?".

You also can take a new power pool, since fitness won't count towards the limit of four power pools once it becomes inherent. And you can take powers that don't require many slots that may be helpful.
Assault, TP friend, etc. -
Presumably, Castle and his Powers Minions were kind of busy making the incarnate stuff work. And making fitness inherent. You know, minor tweaks.

Quote:Why do you keep telling bald faced lies about this?yeah. the fact that it's basically energy manip means it's already fallen short. The developers have flat out stated that Energy Manipulation is not actually a manipulation set, it is an abnormality in the Blaster Manip line-up, and that no more powersets will be based on it's model.
Do you honestly think no one is going to point out when you're making things up?
It just makes you look silly. -
-
My guess is no new power pool, that part of the intent is to encourage people to take more of the current powers they leave out now due to the "requirement" to fit in three Fitness powers.

Camera Spin vs Self-Spin I guess.
If you want to stay at range, go with AR, since there are no PBAOE or short Range powers in AR. -
My I20 Prediction.
Tin-Foil Hat added to costume designer. -
Quote:Sorry, but this isn't a particularly good analysis. Melee AT's have mez protection regardless of their powerset selection. Corrs, Defs and Controllers have some access to incomplete mez protection if they choose one of three select powersets (FF, Sonic, Traps).Actually there are only 2 ATs with no access to Mez protection. Blasters and controllers are the 2, every other AT in the game can get mez protection. Controllers arguably have active defense that actually works.
These are not equivalent states of being in the slightest. -
-
My Easy-mode comment is more a snark about mez than anything else. When one group of AT's doesn't even have to think about a whole class of enemy powers, that is pretty much easy mode in comparison.
-
The Blaster, at higher levels, is somewhat less forgiving, and is more challenged by things like mob mez that the easy-mode ATs (melee) don't even have to think about. However, they are still a viable AT.
If your Blaster at high levels is dropping dead as often as DarkMaster's apparently are, well, I don't think the Archetype is the issue there. -
Quote:Well, yeah, EMP does some big -Regen, but then you get an end crash. Howling Twilight and Lingering Rad are equivalent Regen debuffs if I'm reading City of Data correctly, and then Dark has the heal and the pet spamming the heal as well.Yeah, except Rad is significantly better than Dark at debuffing regen, and just about on par at damage debuffing. Dark is better at to-hit debuffing, I'll give you that.
So it is a little more complex. -
Quote:Well sure, but Rad's heal is also weaker, and isn't also a to hit debuff, damage debuff and regen debuff. So, six of one, half a dozen of the other, fairly balanced.Rad's heal doesn't need a to-hit check, and Rad's to-hit debuff toggle also comes with -def
Rad and Dark are both excellent, but to say that Rad does everything Dark does better is, well, factually incorrect, since they do different things.
One thing I do find slightly annonying with Rad compared to other debuff sets is the Resistance debuff being a toggle. I find location based click debuffs like Tar Patch, Freezing Rain/Sleet, etc a little easier to work with in a game where most targets outside of AVs die in a few seconds. -

Quote:Because people want proliferation, it isn't anywhere near as time consuming to do as creating new powersets, and we already get both anyways. You can, but why?
I mean with GR I can easily play a Psi/Dark as a Redside Defender. The numbers are different but Psi Blast is Psi Blast...You can go as far as playing a Psi/Mental Blaster on Redside as a covert SoA Fortunata.
Wanting proliferation is like asking for Pepsi Crystal in place of Pepsi, it tastes like Pepsi but doesn't exactly look like Pepsi!
W just got four new powersets added to the game and APP/PPP proliferation in the same issue. Why pretend there is any sort of choice we have to make between the two things? -
I love Dark Blast, but it would not be an efficient set for farming, it takes too long to kill things since aside from the first attack, it is all DoT, all the time.
You want Fire Blast, Archery, or maybe AR. -
Quote:You can have both new powersets, and proliferation you know.I think we need to stop working with proliferation and move to NEW powersets. I don't think we should have a game that constantly reworks current powers to make new pairings since we already played them. Having new powers is much better than reworking the same old.
-
Can't really help you with the other primaries, my only existing Traps characters is a Necro/Traps MM.
Edit: AR is good at AoE, so it would be a decent option if you wanted to avoid Fire or Archery. Web Grenade + Ignite should be amusing. -
Quote:If you want buffs and debuffs, then your choices for AT are Defender, Corruptor, Controller, and Mastermind, those are the four ATS with access to buff/debuff powersets. Of those four, for a new player like yourself, who also wants to do damage, I think a Corruptor is the best choice for you.Hi new player here. Just after some guidance on what AT and power set i should choose. There so many AT and power set combos it is hard to know where to start and from past experience in games I know the AT description is never right. Would appreciate if someone could give a brief rundown of what the best combos are at specific roles. I think im looking to make a dmg dealer with good grp utility, preferably buffs or debuffs or both. I was going to go with corruptor but read that they're the 2nd lowest dmg dealers in the game which isn't at all what their description says.
Fire/Rad or Fire/Dark would serve you pretty well. -
Quote:Well, that was the commentary at the time, but frankly, I didn't find those comments at all persuasive then, and I still don't today. At the time of I5/6, those changes were, IMO, done entirely to slow levelling speed in advance of the new expansion, to try to make sure people didn't blow through the new content even quicker than they ended up doing. So I should be like you and ignore all dev statements made regarding ED as a prelim move for the skills system which became the inventions system?
Nahh, I prefer not to live in ignorance.
Edit: And, no, I don't buy that the GDN wasn't also done as a step to prepare for IOs.
While those changes may have had the consequence of creating the space for IOs to happen, I have a hard time believing that was a motivation for the changes. It may have been, but unfortunately at that time period we had a powers dev who basically never spoke to us.
Getting back to the main point, I still find this contention that every buff is balanced out by some corresponding game change to negate that buff bemusing. If that was really the case, there'd be no point in making any powers changes at all.
I look back on the history of a power set like Dark Miasma, and I don't really see where it paid for say, having -Res added to Tar Patch, Dark Servant being made mobile, the change to Howling Twilight so you couldn't rez people with 1 HP, or the global change to the Terrorize-Cower fear that made Fearsome Stare a great power. Other people can surely bring up examples of the sets they know best getting buffed without corresponding nerfs.
Were they to say make Fitness inherent, and then turn around and dramatically reduce the effectiveness of Stamina, or increase power costs, or add Sappers to ever faction, then the whole exercise would be a gigantic freaking waste of Castle's time, and the smarter thing to do would be not to change anything. I don't think they're quite as crazy as people seem to be presuming. -
Quote:Because the devs are so persistently timely in all of their game changes, right, Dysmal? 6 years to make fitness inherent and we still don't have offline SG invites to get our own characters into our own SGs...
If that was your best counter to my statement, you should probably give up now.
Yes, because explaining historical events as if the causation runs backwards through time sure is a valid argument.
