I Apologize if this is the wrong place to ask but my search-fu has not found any information on my problem. Since Monday I have not been able to access the main site (www.cityofheroes.com) in any form or fashion.
The IT guys in the office have told me they are not blocking anything and I can access the site at home. I have tried IE8 and Mozilla with no results. I am on the East coast central time, Alabama specificaly.
Just wondering has anyone else had troubles getting on the website. And even more goofy is that I can access the game from work but not the website.
Any one have any ideas? -
Quote:I believe what you have for video is what they term as a video solution and not a true video card. I took this from Notebookcheck:Just got a new laptop and installed CoH on it. When I was playing though I have a new graphical screw up: whenever I mouse over a clickable object (like a store employee or a glowie) the screen flickers. I've got my video settings on recomended since I was just trying it out, but I don't think it's a game setting that messing up. Surely someone else using Win 7 on a laptop has had this before. Anyone here? If so, do you know a fix?
This is the laptop I got:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD
The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (sometimes also called GMA X4500 HD or other combinations) is a DirectX 10 capable onboard graphics adapter in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset of the Centrino 2 platform (Montevina). The chip has no dedicated graphics memory, but takes dynamically an amount from the main memory (up to 384 MB).
The 400MHz clocked version of the 4500MHD found in the GL40 and GS40 chipsets, is called GMA 4500M (without the HD) and has a worse performance in 3D games and video decoding.
If applicable I would return and search for a model that has a true vidoe card in it. Otherwise, update the video drivers if you can and turn all graphic options to minimal... -
Quote:I agree that you are well known... not necessarily famous. More like infamous.I'm not even going bother sending a petition this time... Just get let it be... Not sure who I have to rub to get invited! Damn I mean when think about Champion you can say you think about a ELF STALKER.... you can say I'm well known. and play many hours into this game.

Does the character use a shield? If so then this is a known problem and is something I have an issue with also on my shield/SS tanker. I believe Bab's has said they have fixed this but the update has not made it to the live servers yet.

When I read Westley's response at the top of this thread I chuckled because I knew the spirit that was intended by his response after years of reading his threads.
I think the problem lies in that someone who doesn't have a lot of background experience with the forums would take it to heart not knowing that some responses to questions comes with a lot of "tongue meet cheek".
I have been with Protector since day one and have enjoyed the server immensely. I have found playing fresh again since joining several channels like Protector Vigilance and Jello Shooters. I know that all I have to do is pop on and request help or just shoot the breeze, as it were, and fun will be had.
The community has changed greatly and I believe has become more tight nit. Hence why spamming broadcasting for team doesn't quite work anymore for instant teaming. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure I'm on a Protector Monsters chanel on a lot of my newer toons too. This is an updated list of the global channels Protector has.
Jello Shooters: Primarily a chat channel. Sometimes you see mention for events, task forces and whatnot. Rated R.
Protector Vigilance:Server events, team-ups, badges, monsters, and chat. Consider this channel PG13 and moderated.
Protector Watch:Mainly used for rare spawning monsters, occasional task force.
Teamsters:TFs and GM hunts.
Please note, this is a cropped list from the original. If your channel is missing, or there is another active channel I've missed, please let me know. This post will be updated/modified based on information received.
Thanks and happy hunting! -
Had a few minutes of free time so I thought I would try my hand at Burnt Matchstick. I tried to take a minimilist approach but envisioned a true matchstick.
I reused the Warrior #2 hat in keeping with your original vision but played with the colors a bit. I also added the small skull mask rather than the camo pattern effect. I didn't have the burnt halo in my arsenal so you will have to use your imagination there.
I used the studded collar to give a defined line between the strikehead of the outfit and the body.
On the body I tried to get some type of wood grain effect like a wooden match has. Useing the blast pattern on the sleek tights along with the thorn pattern for the gloves.
The bottoms are tights with the mesh pattern. The boots are simply tights with the same mesh pattern.
Just my interpetation... Enjoy.
*Sorry for the grainy pics but the video card in my worktop is very old* -
Quote:I dont get this statement much less the bolded part.
And finally, they ARE in a PvP zone, as are you. Asking them to stop what they're doing so you can abuse the game's rewards is insulting to both them and the devs that made the zones.
I understand I am at risk to being attacked in a pvp zone. Especially if I am going after shivans. What I don't understand is why I am abuseing game rewards that the dev's put in place for me to use in a pvp zone and how in any way that is insulting to anyone because I want to use them. -
Getting anyone to participate in these anymore has about a snowball's chance in he.. of happening.

I have a Dell 5150 laptop that the video card has not been supported for a long time. I was pointed to this site a long time ago and have been able to still play but at the minimum settings.
It doesn't have Windows 7 support but does have some vista support with ati cards.
Try at your own risk and all that.

Not an expert on this but I believe they no longer function they way they did because they gave us a slider bar tool under options to color our text and bubbles.
Although if your going for the invisible stuff with the bubbles you will not be able to accomplish that using the color text tool as it is now. -
Protector red side was mapserving a lot right before it went down.

Quote:Well... If you go by this then your leaders don't have a clue. There are a lot of AE babies running around with very little time in game but could have a ton of IO's in their build. They could be great players but Bling doesn't equate to experience. If you want to perform as well as those "uber" builds yes, you do need to IO out your character. People with lots of IOs are prefered over people who don't because many leaders equate "experience" with what you have in the form of IO sets.
Quote:So yes, it does make a significant difference. While it may not be the Devs fault, I believe they (the devs) agree that new players and players that don't want to IO out their builds should be just as effective as those that do want to IO out their toons.
Quote:It's perfectly fair for all toons to be just as effective in PvE as the next.
Quote:You're using a real life scenerio for a game. This is a game not real life.
Quote:Everyone should be able to have fun even if they prefer not to IO out their toons. By reducing the benefits IO sets offer, it will help begin to even the playing field so that regular players don't feel they need to compete with other players by making "uber" IO builds. -

Foregoing the actual definition of what fluff is... To me fluff with the vet rewards are the 5 merits I got for being a 60 month vet and the extra WW slots. Since I don't extensively play the market except to sell what I don't need it is not as important to me as it might be to someone else.
The costumes may not be game breaking, but to someone like myself who suddenly comes up with a certain concept for a character but can't craft them completely because I'm not at a certain month to attain that one piece that would completely make their concept sing is frustrating at best. Even though I can make do with something else till I get there.
I don't really care either way what they decide to do. Since I am working on the 63 vet mark now it wont effect me as it would a new player just starting. -
Quote:And to build on this scenario what if you are put in a place holder status in that you are somehow starred or marked in some way to denote that you have gone pure villain to the SG.Personal assumption (as stated above)
I will assume a Hero that becomes a vigilante (and thus can go both to Isles and Paragon City) stays in the SG. But I will assume that if you go all the way... Your Hero SG cannot accept a known villain in their rank and thus have to boot you. (or be somehow stained with the reputation and maybe be seen as villains too. "Oh hello coaltion.... why do you say arrest us!")
But that is my speculation. The Devs are looking at this issue, and have not given any details. So we are able to speculate.
Edit: Late and failed to see people answering above ;P
This would not automatically kick you since you could come all the way back to hero with some effort but would prevent you from using base assets and whatnot. Maybe the only way to leave the SG in this way is the same route when joining another SG. If you wanted to join a villain SG with no intentions of turning hero again then you would have to quit your former hero SG.
This would show that you have truly embraced your villainous ways...
Of course still just pure speculation. -
Quote:So Jay makes the most awesome costume set yet but tells us we will have to wait till the 72 month vet reward to ever see it rather than just letting us have it would make "those who like earning costumes" happy? And what would you replace them with for those Vets who like earning costumes? More unique costumes?
Don't replace the costumes with anything... Make the vet rewards about the badges, temp powers and fluff rewards. -
As a 60 month vet I would have no problem with the devs dropping all the costume bits from the vet rewards and handing them out to new subscribers.
When the vet rewards came out it was a diffrent time and diffrent thinking all together. I would not be opposed to the vet rewards stopping at 60 or 63 months because I'm pretty sure that time could be better served on other things like reworking older costumes, older TF's (I'm looking at you Positron), etc.
More options is always better... Keep the temps and whatnot but let everyone have costumes. Entitlement because I have kept paying for an account for this long doesn't work for everything. I believe my access to the temp powers and badges set me appart from my ability to wear Samarai Armor, and if i'm not wearing Samarai pieces on my alt of choice at the moment how would a new player know that I had those anyway without extensively searching my info.
As time goes on evaluation of the methods in which decisions were made in the past needs to be relooked at to decide if the right choices were made. What made since two years ago may not fit the mold now. Constant evolution needs to be in play and I believe the devs have shown in the past that they are well aware of this.
Costumes for the masses I say....

*You are not Statesman; blasters and dominaters take note.
*Ambushes happen on two ocasions: when they are ready and when your not
*There is no such thing as a perfect plan.
*Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
*Never draw aggro; it irritates everyone around you. (Fire/* controllers take note.)
*If the enemy is within range, so are you.
*Anything you do can get you killed, including nothing.
*Veterans are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs.
*Snipers motto: reach out and touch someone.
*The one inspiration you need is always in short supply.
*You get the most of what you need the least. -
Enhancements are specific to some powers and some are universal to all. Basically click and hold on an enhancement in your tray and if it is usable in a power the power will not be grayed out.
Also if the level of the enhancement is in the red that means it is unusable because it is to low or high to your current level.
There is more to it than this but just wanted to give the quick and dirty of it...

Welcome to the forums... -
Was soloing much of the time... Actually hidden on several toons and still had people asking me to team in local and braodcast if they were in sight of me...
Gave out all kinds of influence and magic booster buffs to "newbs" all over the place.. On Saturday I think I handed out influence to almost 20 new players who had less than 6 months badges on their characters.. in Kings Row of all places...
All the naysayers and doomers need to let it pass... Don't want to play then don't. Speak your peace and move on... Those of us who enjoy the game deal with not only the cherries but the pits too...
G_G... Your replies are hilarious -
Quote:Just an FYI... If you have only one 50 on either side and you delete it you will not have access to the HEATS or VEATS... So best to park your 50 until you have another. Especially if your looking to play a Warshade.
Anything you want. You can retire it, delete it, use it to earn lots of inf/inf for low level characters, if it has crafting memorization badges, you can use it to craft IOs to give to your other characters, and you can play it.
