Characters are Invisible

Posted

My friend just updated his laptop from Vista to Windows 7 and had to reinstall CoX. He just tried to log in, and on the server screen his character names appeared, but not the image of the toons. When he logged in, he was invisible, and he can't see anyone else. I logged into my account, and I can see him just fine, and when I hit him with an aura power, he can see the aura, but not his body. The toon is a katana scrapper, and he can even see his weapon when he draws it. Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, WTF is going on? Any help would be appreciated.

Goodbye, City of Heroes...I'll miss you.

He needs to post a COHelper and HiJackthis. Most likely it's the video card or the video card drivers.

My guess is that he has an unsupported Intel video card. Hope not but that's my guess.

I've never used ATI cards, but speaking as an Nvidia user, year old drivers usually cause alot of problems :-P

Driver update, yeah, definitely driver update.

Driver updates will be problematic since this is a Dell Laptop and they have no Windows 7 drivers for this model. And of course, ATI (nVidia as well) does not provide drivers for the laptop video cards, those are the responsibility of the OEM (In this case Dell), but they won't have a driver since they don't support the Inspiron 1501 in Windows 7.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

I have a Dell 5150 laptop that the video card has not been supported for a long time. I was pointed to this site a long time ago and have been able to still play but at the minimum settings.

It doesn't have Windows 7 support but does have some vista support with ati cards.

Try at your own risk and all that.

This is NOT just windows 7.

While on a hami raid the other day, I noticed, as a buffer, that several people were disapearing. But if I moved my 3rd person camera around, I would see them at certain angles.

So this is an actual bug...at least in that zone.

That's a different issue - I see the same thing in (for instance) the Rikti "big portal" room and in the Shard, which will have scenery, NPCs and players completely disappear and reappear depending on where I moved to. Happens on XP and Win7, and the chatter will usually become "great, invisible mob time" in team when we run across it.

They're seeing it on the character select screen. There's no 3d camera to move around.
