while that's true enough, it seems like it would be simple enough to make Tendaji a non-required objective. and I take your point on the Lex Luther thing, but don't these longbow have direct orders from Miss liberty?
-
ah, Tendaji, anyone who's ever loined vanguard knows him, and I for one like him a lot. he's always willing to give the benefit of the doubt, it constantly in defense of your actions, and more than happy to give vanguard a hand. which is why I was dismayed when I ran into him as an enemy in the Gaussian arc. I had no choice but to fight him, and go along with gaussian's plan to then infiltrate a longbow base.
I think that I MIGHT have been ok with these, but it's the "no choice" part that gets to me a bit. my character is a superman type, and he hardly seems the type to beat up a loyal ally and then attack the base of a law-enforcement organization unless there is some evidence that they are doing something wrong. which there isn't.
I mean, doesn't the hero have any clout with Freedom Corp.? by this time they've saved the world over and over, and up to this point I assumed that all heroes were freedom corp. registered law enforcers. why do we have to STEAL data, and beat up high ranking officers who've been nothing but good to us?
anyone want to chime in on something I'm missing here, or any rationalizations? Gaussian himself isn't really giving me much to go on, here... -

I had an idea...
what if story arc souvineers became placeable base items (only one of a souvineer can be placed in an SG base), and at times there could be TF's/SF's that involves someone stealing these souvineers for unknown purposes (or SF side, using them for nefarious ends).
"something stolen from the base" is a pretty common convention of the genre, and I think that at least some intrest could come of it, if only for the way it becomes a linear canon. -
if you do, please post it below. I'm sure there are some wierd ones...
here are mine.
one time, my brother was helping someone with the Frostfire mission, and he was asked to pull some of the mob to ease things up. so, he edged his way forward to get into range...
...and hit a patch of ice. he slid RIGHT up to Frosty, who proceeded to wail on him in all of his 6-person team glory, unleashing imps, holds, fireballs, and frostbreath on my brother's poor archery blaster as the rest of the team did their best to utilize the distraction and defeat the enemy mob. what shocked me was that he lived throughout the whole thing, and almost singlehandedly took out the EB at level 13. my TANKER died twice in that fight. CURSE HIM!
the second is also with that same character, he was meeting with a team in atlas Plaza when he saw an oddly familiar person across the street. he wandered over, and found that somehow a custom boss from an AE mission of his had gotten CRUCIFIED right in Atlas Park. closer examination revealed that it was actually four or five custom characters occupying the same physical space, posed in a "T" that only ny brother could see. Wha? anyone else seen this?
have at it. -
hey, I know that nobody may look at this, but whatever, there's a chance someone might. this is an arc I've been working on for a while, and it's gone though three revisions at this point. I'd LOVE some feedback on it, in anything that people can find something to comment on.

so, there it is. have at it. -
I am fully in favor of this as a community effort, and I tip my hat to everyone involved. I'm sure that at the very least we'll come out "rather nice." volunteer for assistant writer!
hows about this for a possible catalyst
ever since her death, War Witch has served as a sort of mediator between the here and the hereafter, being one of three individuals I know of who linger between the two worlds (her, the woodsman, and ghost widow.) however, something is happening in the afterlife. souls are vanishing without a trace, one moment there, the next, gone. all involved are baffled, and the forces of magic are in turmoil with these happenings, for there is only one known way out of the afterlife
Resurrection.

Quote:This Arc is Phenominal. really. that may just be because I love fighting nemesis, but I Love this arc. the dialogue is exceptional, the character design is great, remeniscent of Earth Prime, but wholly original, and all of the maps have a very nostalgic feel to them, which works very well.... the arc I'd like reviewed is in my sig; Crown of Iron, Heart of Steel Part 1.
Crown of Iron, Heart of Steel Part 1: ID - 236933. A whole dimension away, but some things never change.
Please be honest and brutal with it. I'd like some feedback on what can actually be improved. Oh, and the slightly messed up spawning levels I cant do anything about, I've forwarded that to Doc Aeon, and hoping something gets fixed one day.
I only have one complaint and one typo to report
Mission three got a bit frustrating, mostly because of it's mind-banding complexity paired with it's size. the mobs for the generators were often seperated from the generators by walls and ledges, and I searched the area for like a half hour before I found the last member of the overseers mob, which was behind a wall. also, the "escort" part felt a little pointless, since Gorgon and Psion kept following me anyway, so I'd recommend that you drop that part.
the typo was very minor, you just misspelled "Duelist" for the automaton minions.
one last thing: is this supposed to be the alternate Earth that nemesis rex is from in the Maxwell Christopher missions? if so, congrats on keeping it so Nemesis rex can escape to be beaten later, but if it said specifiacally that this Nemesis hadn't discovered dimensional travel yet, how had he and Nemesis Prime been enemies prior to this? if this ISN'T that Nemesis Rex, please consider changing his name to "Emperor Nemesis" in the last mission. thanks
anyway, I'd appresiate it if someone would review my arc, Circuit Breaker, by @White Arrow

yes, it would be nice for bases, but I'm thinking of this as an area open to anyone. other people can visit your exhibit, you can visit anyone else's exhibit, and perhaps there could be large non-exhibit rooms for socializing. like the entrance hall, a cafeteria, a lecture hall, and so on. if it could be utilized for bases as well, hurrah, I'm just thinking of this as a way to showcase achievements and your efforts in defending the world in a way that others can see, but which wouldn't clog up zones with a statue every ten feet.
-
so... the layout wouldn't be customizable? it would just display your souvineers in set locations? or are you thinking of something else?
-
okay, I had an Idea on a different thread, but nobody has said anything about it, so here it is again. it isn't an issue of functionality, combat, or indeed really canon, but I hope that it will help heroes feel more like they're making lasting impact.
You know how in story arcs, when it's over, you get a Souvineer? I'm sure you do. however, you never actually SEE the souvineer, and you're left with just a sentence of two about a bettered videotape, or the lost-curring wand. what if there were a location in Atlas Park - perhaps linked off of city hall, to save space? where every hero gets a room once they get to a certain level, where they can essentially their own museum exhibit. at the end of each story arc, their souvineer can be set up as a wall display case, or maybe hanging from the cieling, or on aa podium, energy cage, whatever. the size of the souvineer would be based on how far-reaching your actions were, and how long the arc was. for instance, after you complete "the Freakshow War," maybe you get Clamor's Freakshow arm for display, below which is a plaque that when clicked on displays a message like "Arm of Clamor, recovered in $name's prevention of the Freakshow War." after a major task force, though, you could get a large Robot that you fought, or the artifact being fought over, or any number of awe inspiring things. he higher you level, the bigger the room, and maybe eventually you can set up a statue of yourself in the exhibit.
every room would be open to other players, accessible via some sort of search-kiosk that teleports you into the room of your choice, then you can get back to the kiosk from the teleporter in each room. he room design would work like Base design, paid for by influence rather than prestige. in addition too heroes coming though, there could be NPC's who occaisionally wander by, stopping to look at exhibits as they go, to give the feeling that what you are doing is building history, rather than just beating some guys up. oh, and needless to say, AE souvineers could not be set up
okay,so that covers just about everything. feel free to wail on this as much as your hearts desire, I just think it would be a cool thing to have. -
Is it cheating to request that an arc be reviewed without reviewing someone else's first? I'd love some feedback soon, but I play spasmodiacally. rest assured, I'll have "Crown of Iron, Heart of Steel" reviewed by friday.

EDIT: I have decided to revise this story, to improve enemy group design, plotting, dialogue, and general pacing. never mind this post until further notice. -
Statesman would give the Reichsman a signed 8x10 glossy, framed with the message "better luck next time!" written on it. and it's rigged to blow.
Longbow troops all get nothing from Longbow. They're soldiers, what do they expect? (Desertion rates have doubled)
Vanguard troops all get Rikti-gun-proof vests
Serpent Drummer gets a poisonous snake from Gaussian
Gaussian Gets the snake back from Serpent Drummer, tied in a knot.
the Clockwork King gets an Automaton body from Nemesis
Nemesis gets some batteries and a book on electrical engineering from the Clockwork King
Longbow Troops all get Iphones from Arachnos, with a lifetime pre-paid calling plan. (desertion rates have tripled) -
Quote:I agree half and half...Ah, you play Blueside, I see.
Peregrine->Atlas? The shortest will be Peregrine->Base Portal->AP, if you have a SG.
There's quite a few three step routes.
CoV seems better set up for this. Very little zoning just to be zoning. Granted, there's fewer zones to do that sort of malarkey anyway, but you get my point. The only times where a contact sends me to a different zone actually stick out in my mind.
Some GV arcs sending me to use the Portal in Northern Nerva by Tech. Naylor. Being sent to Seer Marino in Mercy.
IMO, CoV was set up after listening to the complaining of just this situation that you describe. Now if they could only revamp a few of the older arcs.
while keeping conact missions in the same zone as the contact would be more convienient, it would rarely make sense story-wise. why would Nemesis limit his operations to, say, Peregrine island, when he can have a stranglehold on the entire city? plus forcing heroes to take that much longer to find the places, as well as giving points for him to moniter lines of travel so he could have a heads up. also, it would kind of slim ones viewing of the city as a whole. I can't tell you how many cool places I've found going from zone to zone, that I would hae missed if ALL of my operations just moved on to a new zone every time I ot a new contact.
on he other hand, I uppose it makes sense that contacts should know most about what was going on in THEIR zone, whether theyd been hearing about things while there or came there to investigate. what if a large majority of misions were in the same zone as the contact, but occaisionally a person could get temporary contacts that are helping out for two or three missions, as a favor to your full contact, since they know far more about X zone than he does.
ehhh... that's probably a bit too complex... but it could ultimately cut down on travel back and forth between zones where the contact is and zones where the mission is at.
(P.S. while peregrine-to atlas will never be shorter than a three-part trip, it isn't as exclusive or expensive as having SG telepoters. Ouroboros portals to Atlas too.)
(P.P.S. I definitely like the idea of auto zoning when you hit a boundary not war walls. I'm not sure how many people have noticed, but something like that is set up in peregrine; when you come to the edge, you auto zone to Talos.) -
man, that mission was one of the best I've ever played. they did a reat job on making you genuinely feel sad that he had been killed, even though you saw him only ONCE before. great job on saving him! and don't leave him alone with anyone but Vanguard... The Mendors are Watching...

"I have a suggestion!" Tyrant said with a grin,
and held up to the boardroom a ten foot long pin -
since it seems to me that the main reason statues are wanted is because people want physcal recognition of their deeds, I have an idea... what about rooms heroes ge where they can set up trophies for sory arcs? we READ about the souvineers hat we obtained from arcs, but niether we, nor anyone else, can see these mementos and keepsakes, leaving them unconnected and unsung.
what about a museum type building, with a room for everyone to mount thier souvineers, accessable via a search terminal? you click on a heroes name, and are teleported to their trophy room, where there are plaques under items that give essentially the same descriptions as souvineers in the clue tab, only reffering to the hero rather than the reader. the grander the scale, the bigger the trophy, such as, say, a freakshow arm from "the Freakshow war" which is fairly low scale, and a full 5th column assault bot for the Imperious tf? also, there could be civillians who ae constantly roaming the rooms, looking at the exhibits, and such. maybe the terminal could be in city hall, complimenting the setup in M.A.G.I. headquarters.
although... a possible STORY problem is that reading the plaque could cut down on the impact of the story if YOU end up playing the arc. maybe it would be best kept down to "Freakshow arm: Retrieved during (instert name)'s intervention during the Freakshow War."
any suggestions? -

sorry, but what was I to say? a reasonable guess would be that you were fmale considering that EVERYSINGLE ONE of your characters in the avatar is! really, should it have been
"...And blasts the character of unknown gender with enough energy to topple the statue of atlas."? that's not nearly as dramatic.
oh yes, and I shoot up from the cliff, seething with rage and spattered potato, then grab angry by the lapels (or front of the shirt) and zoom up 500 feet before latching a power dampener onto you and dropping you, cackling maniacally as you plummet. -
note: if I'm seeming too powerful and dramatic, it's only to give this game some direction and a common enemy. plus, being the person at the center of your collective energies is really fun.
