Paragon Museum of Crime Fighting

okay, I had an Idea on a different thread, but nobody has said anything about it, so here it is again. it isn't an issue of functionality, combat, or indeed really canon, but I hope that it will help heroes feel more like they're making lasting impact.

You know how in story arcs, when it's over, you get a Souvineer? I'm sure you do. however, you never actually SEE the souvineer, and you're left with just a sentence of two about a bettered videotape, or the lost-curring wand. what if there were a location in Atlas Park - perhaps linked off of city hall, to save space? where every hero gets a room once they get to a certain level, where they can essentially their own museum exhibit. at the end of each story arc, their souvineer can be set up as a wall display case, or maybe hanging from the cieling, or on aa podium, energy cage, whatever. the size of the souvineer would be based on how far-reaching your actions were, and how long the arc was. for instance, after you complete "the Freakshow War," maybe you get Clamor's Freakshow arm for display, below which is a plaque that when clicked on displays a message like "Arm of Clamor, recovered in $name's prevention of the Freakshow War." after a major task force, though, you could get a large Robot that you fought, or the artifact being fought over, or any number of awe inspiring things. he higher you level, the bigger the room, and maybe eventually you can set up a statue of yourself in the exhibit.

every room would be open to other players, accessible via some sort of search-kiosk that teleports you into the room of your choice, then you can get back to the kiosk from the teleporter in each room. he room design would work like Base design, paid for by influence rather than prestige. in addition too heroes coming though, there could be NPC's who occaisionally wander by, stopping to look at exhibits as they go, to give the feeling that what you are doing is building history, rather than just beating some guys up. oh, and needless to say, AE souvineers could not be set up

okay,so that covers just about everything. feel free to wail on this as much as your hearts desire, I just think it would be a cool thing to have.

Nice idea in theory, but if it was just a static place that everyone had access to like Pocket D, it could work. Customizing it for each individual player would take too much time and take resources away from stuff the game REALLY needs. If Player apartments are ever implemented this would be a perfect idea for it.

The idea of everyone being able to go and see my accomplishments is nice.

so... the layout wouldn't be customizable? it would just display your souvineers in set locations? or are you thinking of something else?

yes, it would be nice for bases, but I'm thinking of this as an area open to anyone. other people can visit your exhibit, you can visit anyone else's exhibit, and perhaps there could be large non-exhibit rooms for socializing. like the entrance hall, a cafeteria, a lecture hall, and so on. if it could be utilized for bases as well, hurrah, I'm just thinking of this as a way to showcase achievements and your efforts in defending the world in a way that others can see, but which wouldn't clog up zones with a statue every ten feet.

well, shoot, this thread seems to have died. I was really hoping for some feedback on this.

and also: the idea would be that you could place it where you chose, but I'm not sure if that could be done without needing to go through a loading screen every time you want to look a a new exhibit. another POSSIBLE thing to add, although I have no idea how something like this would go, every so often, you could get word hat some memento from your pas deeds has been stolen by X group for unknown purposes, leading into either a single mission or entire arc. needless to say, this would be really rare, or it would get old REALLY fast.

"hey steve, could you open up the display cases, I"d like to put tthis nemesis staff in there."

"oh! umm... sory to have to tell you this sir, but... I'm afraid that someone stole the Romulus Phalanx robot..."

"what? AGAIN? this is the hird time it's happened! don't you people have ANY security measures? what happened to those gun-drones I gave you for helping with security??"

"stolen too, I'm afraid."

"...what?"

"yes, sir, it seems hat the brigands snuck up behind the drones and took their bateries out. then made off with them and the Romulus Robot."

" 'took it's batteries out?' "

"yes sir."

"Steve..."

"yes, sir?"

" did you sell he gun-drones for drinking money again?"

"..."
"..."
"yes, sir."

it would get older than azuria's loss of objects.

I really like this idea It could kind of bring souvenirs in line with badge-collecting. And could also give people more reason to do more of the game's actual storylines. As it is, yes I rather like the souvenirs in my Clues bag but there's not much there. They all have the question mark cause the Devs never got around to giving them icons, so there's no real draw.

I definitely like this!

There is a reason things die: it is their time.

I've seen this kind of idea multiple times, and it still falls flat for the most part. Use of this functionality would be next to nil. There are many players who enjoy Souvenir collecting as much as Badgers love badging, but there isnt a room or gallery in a base to show one's collection of badges either. A single scrollable page; yes, but no need to waste disk space on the data to make a gallery one could stroll through.

Secondarily, the Player Badge Info page/tab is useful for only one thing to me. That is to gauge a player's apparent Ability (how they are acting ingame) to Time Played (Vet Reward badges). It's not perfect, but it can be interesting to see that the newb I am presently adventuring with is actually more of a n00b, or conversely that the n00b that is irritating me is actually a newb which allows me to drop my annoyance level to that of background radiation and be a little more vocal in helping said player. I dont know that even being able to access the Souvenirs would do that for me.

In any event, Souvenirs are pretty static (every player can either have them or not as they choose) so I couldnt back any idea that treated them any differently than that of the Badges. A page: yes; a building: no. IMO anything more is just gilding the narcissistic lily.
