My fire/fire tank does ok. Fire aura wasn't changed due to scrappers from what I know. It's been the same for quite a while. The devs have already said that FA has a bit less defense traded for offense and it's fair in my opinion. Do you use burn when you are tanking? That helps a lot to mitigate incoming damage. try slotting some IOs. Those scrapper that you say are surviving better probably have slotted for defensive bonuses.

It's an interesting build. Probably not the way I'd go with mine.
He probably took leaping to get in two sets of Zephyr. That provides a lot of ranged and AOE defense. Hasten isn't exactly required with poison, but I like having it.
Maneuvers stacks with your Enforcers to provide even more defense. I have it on mine too. It's not a lot, but once you have a good base, even that small amount can make a difference. With defense sets being fairly popular it can help out those don't have have it softcapped with IOs, and multiple manuevers can really help the team.
He slotted Gang War for the two defense bonuses in Blood Manage, ranged and AOE def, rather then for the skill. I doubt he uses it much either, or he'd slot it for recharge.
Probably just no other slots for NG. I like the skill, but sometimes it seems like a pain to use.
All that defense means he hardly gets hit, so if he can keep them attacking him it's protecting his pets. The rare hit that does get through will be caught in bodyguard. Personally I'd use a different set to make a tankermind, but I'm sure it works well for him.
As a side note, I normally keep my pets in bodyguard and use my debuffs to start the battle when solo or small groups. Large groups I normally keep 2-3 in defensive mode. -
Local Man covered most of it. My 50 is Ill/Storm and I love playing that character. It is chaotic depending on the skills you use. Harder to play then Ill/Rad, but more rewarding when I do it well. To me, /rad is doing the same thing over and over and I like that storm offers a wide variety of skills for different situations. I have almost everything in it. Some teams/maps you may not use a lot of it though, others you'll use everything. It is a lot of fun solo, at least more so then rad IMHO. I'm not a huge fan of TA, but I think Illusion is one of the primaries it goes better with as they have some skills that fill in holes. Just make sure you pick an origin to light the oil slick.
I'll second his opinion on /kin too. I see a lot of people play them, but there isn't good synergy there. I'd save it for a different primary. -
The kheldians probably aren't ideal, but they aren't bad either. You'll probably be spending a lot of time in nova until late game and you'll need to watch the knockback. I'd probably go with a warshade if you go that route. I like mine quite a bit and I've had good success teaming with tanks. The other problem is that khelds gain a lot more on large teams, especially since those bonuses apply in the forms now. As a duo you won't be taking full advantage of that.

Quote:Seriously, you shouldn't have to. This just seems to enforce the idea you aren't using tactics. I know that style of play isn't for everyone, but it is a good way to play a blaster.I'd like to hear more about how an Ice/NRG Blaster might max out ranged defense with IOs. Anyone?
Second, with energy as your secondary you should be in and out of melee. You have three very strong melee attacks, two come out very fast and with buildup should come close to taking out a lt. You have great mitigation in your secondary. Power thrust is great for getting someone away and keeping them out of the battle of a couple seconds. Works great on bosses. You've got a melee stun, great for troublesome lts. TF is another stun and good damage.
One your ice side you've got two holds. Ice storm causes a fear affect and you should be able to take out a couple as they run away. The slows stack up well too.
Some extra defense helps, but you don't need it to succeed with your blaster. -
As Rush Bolt said, you have to be smart about the knockback, but it's the deal breaker it was a while back. Learn to knock things into walls, corners etc. Your single target attacks probably aren't a problem as long as you aren't going after the same boss that the tank/scrappers are. Just learn when not to use your AOEs and you should be ok in most teams.
One piece of advice is to go with the melee attacks too. It gives you some very strong attacks and extra defensive skills that you have more control of. -
I'd like to throw in my 2inf. Merits suck hardcore for me. I live in Tokyo and play from about 4am to maybe 9am CST at the latest. It's a terrible time to find teams and run TFs. Getting merits is a pain in the [censored]. I know my specific case doesn't apply to a lot of people. If you do have trouble getting on TFs for whatever reason it's hard to save up merits.
The recipes drying up on the market really hurts too. I'd almost prefer if they just had random rolls rather then allowing people to save up for a specific one. -

Someone informed me that putting line returns (the Enter key) into the "hardware" box will throw that error. So keep those out, and you'll be fine!

Your submit site the Lighthouse linked to is giving errors when trying to submit. My input has none of those characters and I've tried reducing character count. I'm only using '.' and '@'.

I like the system. Get some bonuses based on where you log out, and even with the badges you don't get the benefit permanently. You still have to log off. Some of the temp powers don't seem like a sure thing either. I don't know that 30 days is too long, but don't decrease it below 20 for sure (IMO). It will be nice to see some things that players don't blow through in a couple weeks. A lot of varied bonuses, I can see different characters picking different things and players preferring one to another. Adds a little RP in a way since you can't easily be 'everything'. I like it, especially since I don't get to play that often.

We knew changes to the epic power pools on both heroes and villains we coming. As others have said, villains were too weak and heroes too powerful. I don't think these could be fixed just by changing numbers. Some of the powers are going to change and I believe it will make the game better. Stop over reacting now and lets see what the changes are. You might have to make some changes to your character, but life will go on and overall it will probably be an improvement to the game. Both PvE and PvP.

I hate to bug you, but can you be a little more explicit about the 'annoying yet workable bugs'. I'm definitely tempted, but I'd like to be sure the money is put to use. Ugh, I have to get the pro version so it's even more then I thought.

You can save yourself another slot by just putting two enhancements in. Level 50 IOs give you a 42.4 boost. Two level 50 IOs in buildup and it recharges in 32.5 seconds. 3 recharges and it recharges in 30.2 seconds, 2.3 seconds faster. Even two level 40 enhancements give you a 33.9 second recharge, or with level 35s, 34.6 seconds. Only 2 seconds slower then level 50s. Save yourself that third slot with basic IOs unless you really need that last bit of a boost.
Maybe easier to read:
2x 35s - 34.6
2x 40s - 33.9
2x 50s - 32.5
3x 50s - 30.2 -

if you don't want to go through all of the trouble of installing boot camp and windows you can download and install Crossover Games from Codeweavers and while not with out it's problems it does work very well, this is a great option as it works in tiger 10.4 and leopard 10.5, if the only reason you are flipping to windows is for COX than this will save you some space on your hard drive.
[/ QUOTE ]
This actually works now? I might have to try it again. How does the performance compare to bootcamp or parallels.
For those curious about parallels, it does work. I can boot my macbook bootcamp partition with parallels and run CoH, but the performance is noticeable lower. If you just want to get on for a short time, or you need access to your mac applications while you play it's a decent solution. I tend to reboot though, especially for long sessions. -
Some issues have had lower level content, some higher level content. They even said this issue would be low on content even before it came out. Seriously though, it doesn't take all that long to get a character up to level 35 even if you don't play often. I know it's fun to play lots of lowbies, but pick a character and concentrate on him a bit. There is lots of cool stuff at higher levels and you'll see your characters evolve more as their skills fill out.

Thanks, I'll try using the numpad. I'm using 'r' and 'f' right now, but I keep switching out of nova when I try to use autorun. haha That, and I'd rather have the keys around me bound to other skills. The numpad may work out perfectly.
Thanks! -
I love your guide, but the binds are driving me nuts. I use the keyboard to move around quite a bit and even after a few days I find myself shifting in and out of forms at the worst of times. What other keys have people used with success? I haven't found anything I really like yet.

I knew it! I guess it's CoV for me! -
[ QUOTE ]
Pushing issue three when there were regressions in the code was foolish in my opinion. The blinky sound no longer working is a clear regression from Issue 2.
[/ QUOTE ]
A regression isn't a show stopper bug. Missions can still be completed.
[ QUOTE ]
Armors not useing resistance enhancements to protect against toxic was another clear reason to wait.
[/ QUOTE ]
We didn't have toxic resistances before issue 3 and did ok. The new villian group doesn't do huge amounts of toxic damage. You'd delay shipping for this?!
[ QUOTE ]
Heck any of the reasons on that bug list are a good reason to wait. Especially when the free respec was not ready. The respec not being ready alone was enough of a reason to wait.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can kind of see this, but I like the fact there is a little delay. At least people can learn a little about the changes before making uneducated choices they may regret. Playing an alt for a few days or taking a couple days off won't kill anyone. There is always grouping. A group can cover for even the worst mistakes in a build. -
As a software developer I wouldn't call either of those critical. I wouldn't allow a bug on that scale to stop something from shipping.
-
Most builds will probably need to use many inspirations to solo most bosses. It's a little bit of a pain but not show stopping.
-
Trading in missions would be a nice thing although people may just use it to search for specific missions. Statesman has always said you should be able to solo, not that you should be able to solo missions. This is a detail I think a lot of people miss. There are a lot of streets out there with small groups of minions and lts that any AT can solo, and that is soloing. Have at it. Convincing Statesman existing missions should be soloable, or that soloable missions should be added is another thing.
-
It's not everyone's view of building a character. If level 40 minions were just upgraded hellions you may be right, but they aren't. They have more resistances, more abilities and are much tougher then a hellion if it was level 40. As I leveled up I expect that which was hard to be easier. Hey, I couldn't defeat rikti two levels ago, but I can now! That's progress. Color is used to determine the challenge relative to your level, not your progress as a hero.

Peregrine was an experiment of a "mixed" zone. A hazard/city zone. We're changing it into a more typical city zone now.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then please remove the lvl limit on hazard zones at the same time so normal groups (who _always_ have SKs in them) can enter them.
Right now hazard zones cuts us off from grouping with our low lvl friends and therefore we dont go there.
[/ QUOTE ]
I love to see SKs be able to enter hazard zones, but if that isn't possible find some way to get SKs to door missions in hazard zones. Once the difficultly is changed and door missions become more viable I expect to do even more of these then I do currently.
It's a pain when you have to tell your SK 'please wait 20-40 minutes while we do this mission because you can't get to it, but it we need to do it to get more missions'. At least have the contact tell you if it's in a hazard/trial zone before you get it. City spawns are just too low if your group has 4 or more people.
