Quote:Well, part one is that you're mistaking a handful of upset people on the boards for "the playerbase". And secondly, people upset or with an ax to grind tend to post more and post more vehemently on message boards than people who are happy with what's going on. They post a lot and are "louder" about it, so it often makes certain groups appear more numerous than they really are.
Olantern wants the simple answer?:
I just can't understand this jaded attitude. That's probably partly because I don't like loot, am perfectly happy with either side of the game, and want a break from playing my 50's, but why do I seem to be the only one like this? How did the player base suddenly shift to be focused so intently on end game content when it seemed to be of only moderate interest to so many people up until about a month ago? -
Quote:It doesn't start until August 17th. It should be clear by then.
iBones is eager:
Iv'e never taken advantage of this event before, how do you go about transfering for free? When I go to transfer my character, it still shows up as 9.99.
Could anyone be of some assistence? -
Quote:That will only affect those who were staying away from redside because of the markets. The rest of us that barely set foot there have many and varied reasons not to play there, all of which still apply.
The_Coming_Storm quacks:
But that will change come i18 once the markets are merged because Redside content is much higher quality. -
Quote:Oh, people actually playing the game don't count. All that counts is tons of people standing around doing nothing.
Panzerwaffen needs criteria:
I'm curious about this as well. If anything but Virtue & Freedom are "dead" and "unpopulated", who the heck are all these players on Protector that keep forming TF's at all hours? And who the heck were those other 7 people on that villain team I was on Monday morning? Must be figments of my imagination, just like the global channels that have a couple hundred people in them.
I actually found it quite amusing that each of the 3 Protector global channels I am on routinely have more players online than the one Freedom global channel I have in my list. -
Quote:Anything but Freedom and Virtue, but only to people for whom Freedom and Virtue are the "way it should be".
GMan3 wants to know?:
Hey, can anyone tell me what servers exactly are dead?
"Teams? Why is that important? I need to see a bunch of people standing under Atlas to feel as if there are other people on the server!!!" -
Likewise, I'm sure.
-
I only VERY RARELY delete anything, and haven't deleted anything in about three years. I was very happy to see the free transfers this winter, though. Did a lot for opening up slots on Victory while leaving the characters for "in case I ever want to" (I often play on whim like that) on other servers.
Of course, getting a character to 50 in three weeks would be absolutely unheard of for me (usually it's about 1 1/2 - 2 years), so I'm not exactly in a position to say how I'd feel about deleting such a character. I'm usually well-invested by the time they hit 20, let alone 50. -
Quote:I guess we're just going to keep repeating back at each other. That's not a problem with the gadgets, that's a problem with the people (and far far from a universal issue). In fact, it tends to be predominantly an American thing. They actually know how to relax in many other countries.
GMan3 refers back:
My first post responding to you said it best - "Your forgetting as well Decorum, that the easier we make our lives, the more junk we try to fit in to fill them." Like it or not that will always be the problem. Even if we don't do it to ourselves, someone else will try to do it for us such as bosses, spouses, girlfriends, friends, parents, siblings, children, etc . . . that is the problem with our loveable and helpful little gadgets. -

NNOOOOOOO!!!!!!
You must pick a side and argue strenously for or against it!
Otherwise, the Nuetrals win. -
Quote:I know what you mean. One of my life credos is "Steven needs input!" My computer without eleventy-seven windows open looks naked. The tv's always on (usually something from a history or science channel or old movie). There's usually notes and reference material laying all about.
Marcian Tobay has the curse:
I don't know how to say this, but... I think at a really rapid pace. If I don't have multiple stimulants up at the same time, I get really uncomfortable. Right now, I have this window, my iTunes, the game I'm designing, Twitter, Facebook, and a separate tab for the other part of the forums I'm exploring..
One of my old roommates once came home to me watching TV while reading a book and taking notes on the show I was watching. Then the commercial came on and without looking up I used the remote to switch to the stereo. He just stared at me and asked "How many things do you need to be doing at once???" -
Quote:OK, now that's just good clean fun right there!
Mandu has a version of hide and seek:
I hang out in my Freak Tank costume in the middle of a group of Freaks. Then when I see a player standing out of aggro range I turn on ninja run and charge them. If they happen to be hovering above instead then I turn on fly and zip at them.
"BOO!" -
Quote:Actually, I didn't ignore it. My whole post was me disagreeing with it. Unless you're living in a hut or cabin somewhere happy with a subsistence living off the land (and your presence on a computer kind of negates that
GMan3 just repeated:
You completely ignored my most important point in my previous post, so I'll repeat it - "I love my technology gadgets, but I have absolutely NO illusion it is making my life any easier and anyone that does is playing themselves for a FOOL."), technology is making your life easier. Sure, you can find examples where it doesn't, but that doesn't negate that it does.
Unless you're specifically talking about our frivolous gadgetry like cell phones and iPods, etc etc (wasn't really clear from the first post), in which case it has more to do with how you use them. Certainly, a cell phone is easier and saves time more than hunting down a phone booth (especially since they've all but disappeared because of cell phones). Almost all your examples were not the tech not making life easier, but the users making their own lives more stressful. It's not the tech doing that, it's operator error.

Quote:Just to note, sevenshade, this has happened with with every single new Issue since at least I7 (I can't say about earlier, since I wasn't here yet), so it's pretty much expected that "Santa" may be leaving us one in our stocking shortly after the 17th of this month.
Ironblade might soon find a bonus:
4) The Devs generally give a free respec (one for every character) when they release an update that changes existing powers. -
I have "none" planned right now, but it's more a matter if I come up with a story for someone that appeals to me. Right now it's just in the "it's an option" pile.
I have two redsiders coming over to blue, but one of those will be returning ("It's all a trick!").
-
I've always just "run around", reveling in whatever travel power I happen to have. No destination just "Zoom!"
I've recently switched several of my Natural characters to the Swift+Hurdle+Ninja Run model and am having a blast just doing the Parkour thing in various neighborhoods (although I'm old and still think of it as "Beasting", after the way the Avengers/X-Men Beast used to bounce around). -
Quote:Frankly, you're cherry-picking your examples there from the "frivolous" category. Technology makes our lives easier all the time. One quick (
GMan3 luddites:
Think about this though. How much has technologoy really made your life easier and given you more time for leisure? I'll use the example of a cell phone. It is great! You can look up how many calories your dinner is going to be when the waiter brings it to you, if it has internet. Of course by the time you find that your dinner is cold and even less calories since you don't want to eat it then anyways. That made your life easier right? How much of the movie did you miss the last time you went to a theater thanks to that handy dandy gadget? Nice to be able to get a hold of anyone at any time, but they now have the same capability with you.
I love my technology gadgets, but I have absolutely NO illusion it is making my life any easier and anyone that does is playing themselves for a fool.) counterexample is a microwave oven. Or even stoves themselves. Transportation of goods using technology (especially food) makes your life easier every day. The electricity that powers your gadget examples? Technology making your life easier and better all the time.
Just because there are technological things that don't make your life better and don't give you more leisure time doesn't negate that there are such things that do. -
Quote:It happens to me, too, usually right after posting, but definitely with no consistency. I just shrug it off as glitchy board programs and ignore it, though.
sevenshade isn't crazy:
also another odd question a bout the forums and my avatar, for some reason when i reload a page my avatar is missing, soemtimes it takes a few refreshes before i can see it again. anyone know the deal here? -
Very nice. One of the few times I've liked the finished product more than the concept art.

Quote:Let's not be stereotypical about it, either. Different people have vastly different values and different reasons for doing it. Unless you've become some kind of telepath, it's usually best not to make broad derisive statements about peoples' motivations.
Bad_Influence lumps:
But lets not be hypocritical about it. People tattletale because deep down... they like it. All this moral fluff is just that, fluff.
I, personally, never report anyone. The most I do is occasionally give someone a /tell nudge of "heh, someone's going to tag you for that, you know. And you got the belt wrong, use this one..." -
I was thinking it would be more possible to do it through some kind of debuff, but then they'd have to squeeze it in-between whether or not you hit and the damage.
Not that I think they'd ever do it, or even entertain the idea of having a way to remove the 5% in any way. -
Sooo...completely retool how accuracy and damage work in this game then? Simple!

Quote:Standard answer to this kind of question is "If you have to ask, then probably a whole lot harder than you think."
skrid notes:
How hard is it to fill that space with buildings and as the city fades into rural areas, forests and rivers/lakes etc. -
Hee, you're talking to GG. Her brain doesn't have the part that recognizes ambiguity.

Nothing actually in CoX can buzzkill me. Players behaving like immature buttwipes can, but I just avoid them after I run into them.

Expect the worst, hope for the best. When this happened the other day they reappeared.
