Not sayin' you're wrong, Sam, or that this is what you were gettin' at, but this is just somethin' that irks me in-game and seein' it obliquely referenced.

As for the Prometheus speculation... I've got my theories. Mostly stuff along the lines that he did what the Well does now by first givin' fire to humanity. He's likely what the Well replaced... perhaps forcibly.
He ends up with it, one way or another. Though I suppose if Prometheus is that bada**, he could have made sure Manticore ended up with the Flame somehow, regardless of Positron's intervention.

EDIT: Another way to take the whole "I gave the Flames to Dr. Keyes" thing is to clarify as opposed to "the Freedom Phalanx STOLE it."

    Meh.

  3. Hmmmm...

Prometheus gave fire to humanity (and the Flame to Posi)... and the main form of time travel we use in-game is the Pillar of Ice and Flame... and Prometheus was once a champion of the Well... which means the Well controls time travel?

Utilizing a complicated series of theatrics and a few Incarnate Shards he received from his last Hamidon raid, he convinces the world that GV 42 managed to perform the impossible: he killed the Statesman. 42 becomes the new Big Shot in the Rogue Isles as many real villains flock to his side, planning to one day kill the man who killed the hero.

Naturally, the Devs will hire Brad Pitt or Kevin Conroy to voice Statesman in the game's first ever fully-dubbed cutscene.
Would I get lynched if I did a demorecord of States buying it to the soundtrack of Harley Quinn playing "Amazing Grace" on the kazoo? (Especially if Recluse is the one giving the eulogy?)

  6. I have...

Pets with an aura-ish effect (singularity, dark servant, etc) look REALLY weird. Fire effects also are reduced to almost nothing so you see this very faint glow where the heart of the effect is, and that's it.

  9. Per the Paragon Wiki's page on the Freedom Phalanx:

    Quote:
Despite any public or political pressure, the Freedom Phalanx continues to battle any threat to humankind and remains "the world’s premiere independent hero organization. They still make it a firm policy to have no official ties to any government or law enforcement institution. They are one of the most open organizations in existence, allowing any would-be hero to volunteer for service with the esteemed group. Unlike other groups, the Freedom Phalanx is entirely open about everything, from its membership to its funding and current activities. This frankness carries through on down to the lowest levels, where even beginning heroes must reveal their true identities and pasts to the organization and the world. Statesman takes great pride in these 'sunshine' policies', saying they go a long way towards inspiring confidence in the Freedom Phalanx’s personnel and motives.
(Trying to find the original source material for this, btw - if you know where this is from, let me know.)

So ostensibly, yeah - at least as far as the current roster of seven goes, everyone knows who they are.

    *****

As far as the whole 'secret ID' thing goes, only a small number of my characters really worry about that (one, for example, because she's displaced in time by twenty years into her past and doesn't want to distort the timeline).

  10. I'm somewhere in between. I don't have that one OMG-THIS-IS-SO-ME character that some people do (and more power to them). But my altitis is rather small compared to some - it's more a matter of creating a concept, testing it for a while, then yay/naying it.

Some characters of mine will sit for AGES and then all of a sudden, bang, I finally "get" them (my mercs/TA MM, Profiteer, is one of them).

I found the entry on the KoA in paragonwiki, and this did catch my eye.

The Knives of Artemis is an all-female mercenary group, and has a reputation as one of the deadliest paramilitary groups in the world. The Knives are often seen as an extension of the Malta Group, and are enlisted for high-level security functions, or to engage in surgical strike operations.

I think I can work the Malta angle in there somehow and still have a connection with the KoA.
You could make him part of an experimental group where the Knives are cross-training with Malta... another possibility is to make him a member of some anonymous group who are studying the KoA with the intent of neutralizing them.

    Just a thought...

  12. Got a request to "join my team" while I was running around today filming. I explained I was only on to film, so it wouldn't be much fun. (Literally spent two hours jumping in and out of my Sound Stage AE mission creating quick filming setups.)

    The reply?

    "sokay i can just doorsit"

I didn't know what to say to that so I just went right on filming.

  13. Who's the contact who gave you the mission? (Go to Contacts>Active) You may need to head back to him/her and turn something in. Otherwise, click back on the Mission, and see if it points you elsewhere. Worse comes to worst, log out and back in again to see if it resets it or gives you the next relevant piece of info.

A suggestion once you've progressed past the basics of Windows Movie Maker (or near equivalents) is Sony Vegas Movie Studio... I use the HD Platinum edition and absolutely love it. You can make some really sweet videos with it, and it's a nice stepping stone between the uber basic WMM and the high end software.

When I can afford it, I plan to REALLY upgrade and go whole hog to Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas (yes, both of them).

  15. I'm trying to lay my hands on the exact PM I'd gotten a while back from Lighthouse and/or Ex Libris re: me posting videos to YouTube of game footage, but crediting COH/NCSoft/Paragon Studios as the source of the video footage is sufficient for posting vids of the game on the internet PROVIDED that:

    a) I am not violating an existing NDA
    b) I am not profiting off the video (i.e., I can't 'monetize' it), and
    c) I am not defaming the company, the IP, or the game itself via the video.

That at least covers VIDEO footage (and sound recorded from in-game). If I add unlicensed music, then I run the risk of the music's licenseholder yanking down the video for their own separate reasons.

I will update this post if I can find the original PM (it was pre-board migration so I don't know if I still have it).

BTW, Turg, I heard that Leandro offered to teach the kid how to play with fire and electricity. Thank you for having the good sense to turn him down.

Also, FedEx says package #1 got there - did it?

Seems like a no-brainer to me, too.
Some of us have been pleading with PS for YEARS to sign some kind of agreement with CafePress so we can get t-shirts, mugs, pint glasses, posters, etc etc etc. They're not listening.

However, for those who want t-shirts and stuff, I suggest that next year, you follow the Real World Hero auction, when stuff like that gets bid on for charity. (I won Issue #3 of the Blue King comics, signed by all the devs.)

I recall someone's story - I think it was Samuraiko - which had Positron become embarrassed at a meeting by something Synapse said, then storm off and rush for home, only to discover Synapse sitting on his couch, grinning and asking for details. That genuinely made me laugh out loud, and it put their relationship in perspective. It made me care for baldy, and it made me care for Synapse, and that's saying something considering I HAAATE Synapse the way he's written in-game.
That is indeed my story (in fact, the opening chapter) of THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE. I tried (not saying I always *succeeded*) to make the FP interesting, as they are some of the protagonists of the series. Of course, Posi and Synapse get the bulk of the limelight, but the rest of them get their screen time in, as it were.

I took it as a compliment when several players who'd read TCOSR told me that now when they pass through Steel Canyon, Positron seems like an actual character now, not just a placeholder for a task force.

  23. Gratz on the newest sonic/mental controller in the family.

(My Nana told me that when I was born (four days early, guess I was in a rush to get out and join the comedy), I had to be kept in an incubator or bubble or somesuch for almost a month because of respiratory/immune problems, so I can imagine how frustrating it is for you and your wife.)

At any rate, I got your PM, and stuff is on its way - I tried to get it there before Christmas, but it might be a bit late.
