Its somewhat impossible for them to keep defense from being either horrible or completely overpowered because the entire idea of it lends to the "dodge it all or take it all:live or die" idea.
I don't think that it's "entirely" impossible. I do think that it is quite hard to accomplish though, but that it can be accomplished to at least an "extent."

One thing the dev's could have done, instead of nerfing Elusivity into oblivion from 30 pts to a mere...10 pts...is they could have simply cut that number in half. Elusivity at 15 to at most 20 pts would have been a MUCH better figure for them to nerf to, as those values would have at least had "some" impact in pvp still. At 10 pts...it's garbage and I hardly even know if it's really even there half the time.

But we all know the dev's....nerf hard or go home...

    Yup.

But I still find Fire to be the best at "sustaining" a solid ranged damage attack chain with lightning fast speed. Ice (with enough recharge) would be runner up imho.

That being said, I have a fire/pain but I like all of my other corr's more (/sonic, /rad, /kin) because they provide buffs to me as well of the team. With the exception of the sonic's shields and toggle.
What are you, and others, talking about!?! Seriously.

How does PD not offer "you", the user, any buffage?!? Or less than say, Sonic?

Shall I start from the top? I shall.

    • Nullify Pain: This is not only an "ally heal" but a "personal" heal as well. It provides you with a 22% HP heal in less than every 3 seconds! That, my friend, is some pretty powerful "self/personal" damage mitigation.
    • Share Pain: While I wouldn't advise being too careless with this BUFF, using Share Pain WILL increase your damage output by 25% with EACH application, and yes, it does stack. A couple of Share Pain's and you've got more +Dmg than Aim has to offer you. With proper slotting, you can have, roughly, a "permanent" +75% Damage boost during any given fight. Sure, it's a "tad" masochistic, but if you're daring and need the damage, it's there.
    • Soothing Aura: Again, this power is NOT just an "ally heal" power, it is also a "personal heal" power, and some damned fine mitigation in a prolonged battle, especially for yourself. It grants the user over an 8% Hitpoint heal every 2 seconds! What's not to simply LOVE about that!?! Even solo? It's an awesome power.
    • World Of Pain: Once again, this power is NOT simply an "ally buff" power, as it affects YOU as well. Depending on how you want to slot it, it can provide you with upwards of an 18% +Res boost to ALL forms of damage. Key word...ALL. Or, if you prefer the "to-hit" upwards of a 16% +tohit buff. WoP even packs a hefty 16% +Dmg Boost, which is more than running an end hungry Assault toggle can vouch for. All of this is right next to "perma" even without IO's, and just having Hasten up. A near "perma" 18% +res to ALL damage types for yourself? On top of a hefty to-hit bonus? Yes please.
    • Anguishing Cry: This power should be a no-brainer, as it is simply a "debuffing" power, which means that YES, even YOU can use it's debuff potential to your advantage! Not "just" your teammates!

Hmmm...so...that's 5 powers from PD that you can use on "yourself" and only 4 powers from PD that you cannot use on yourself and are 100% "team-buff" powers. Heck, I didn't count it, but EVEN Conduit Of Pain BUFFS YOU! If you ask me, it looks like the "self buff" powers definately outweigh the "team-buffs" powers in PD.

Basically, what I'm getting at is, people should stop looking at PD through such a "narrow" minded hallway. The set is actually just as much a "self-buff" set as a "team-buff" set if we want to get right down to it. PD Corrs also solo JUST FINE, better than thermal if you want my honest to gosh opinion on it. PD Corrs have BETTER survivability than Thermal (due to Soothing Aura+WoP+Nullify Pain) as well as an AoE -Res Power which is on a shorter recharge timer and much larger radius. Sure, it's arguable that against "single hard targets" a Thermal might be better due to HE, but for all other instances, I'd place my bets on the PD Corr. Players simply need to learn how to better "leverage" their primary powers to take full advantage of PD's soloing capabilities. It's not that difficult.

Use your second build to skip True Grit if you're Shields; sadly Willpower brutes can't skip High Pain Tolerance (tanks can, but brutes and scrappers can't).
Actually, I believe that if you "haven't" already leveled up your "second" build (and it's still sitting at lvl 1) then you can actually have a build without HPT, simply do not select the power after switching builds.

    Yea, that better not happen.

Right now, it looks like they may have just well finally "fixed" ELA though, and brought it up to par with the other Secondaries out there. Here's to hoping they don't nerf it to oblivion before it hits live... :P

It's definately nice to see for a set that I've always thought was the best looking armor set in the game either way.
Hmm...I've only recently dipped into the "new" boards again, so maybe I'm missing something...but what are we talking about here? Energize? Is ELA actually recieving some sort of "buff" or are these just hopes and dreams? Info?

I'm loving my Fire/Energy in pvp, however zones sorta "hamper" his abilities, since it scatters my fire imps and causes un-wanted NPC aggro..

Other than that though, he totally rocks

I love being able to take out bosses before the team can tell what's happening. I even set up a macro to say "See this $target? Yeah, he's dead, he just doesn't know it yet." to let them know who I'm taking out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

....hmm...well, enjoy that ability while you can...because it doesn't last long. By your late 20's, you won't be defeating bosses that fast anymore, and by your 40's forget it. In fact, you'll probably drool at how much faster Brutes, Doms, Widows, and well built Corruptors do it than you

It's the sad but true fate of the Stalker.

I wish there was something more that dev's could do to change that, because personally...I LOVE being the "boss killer" on my Stalker...too bad it doesn't end up that way in late game. Instead, you become the Minion to Lt. vanquisher...the only problem is that AoE's take care of those quickly anyways so who cares?

Bleh, sorry to rain on your parade, I'm sure others feel differently. Enjoy your Stalker..

Ahem. There's one melee that /does/ exist....but barely.

Ladies and gents, I'd like to recommend....

    RADIOACTIVE MELEE!

Think about it. Quick defense debuffs, medium damage, pure NRG-DAM without that freakin' +KB or the pink pom-poms. And before you go calling my bluff about it being in-game: Shivans (kinda) have it and so do Infected (kinda). Who amongst you wouldn't want to punch through a man's rib-cage with the force of an atom bomb for your Assassin's Strike?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd be all for that, but I dunno....I doubt it'd ever happen, because they "would" indeed have to create another completely new powerset...and I don't see them doing that anytime too soon unfortunately.

    Maaaaaaaybe /FA.

    FE+BU+AS = .......

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would LOVE FA for Stalkers, and even with FE, I think it'd be perfectly fine.

FE is on a relatively long recharge timer, especially if you're a "non" Fire primary user since the buff is only 10 seconds versus 30 seconds, and the damage bonus is lower too.

FA would make one helluva "squishy" Stalker, but I could still see it working just fine, and that "squishyness" would balance out the fact that it has "FE" for more damage.

Dread do you just not like snipes or have they gotten worse since I last played (i12ish) because I remember them being good if used properly (mostly just as an initial burst to follow up with attacks like thunderstrike if you couldnt manage to land an AS in a duel or something)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I've reluctantly taken a Snipe on one of my Stalkers, just to try it out and for shitz and giggles...and honestly...everthing that people say about them (that being they suck hardcore in pvp)...is 100% true.

That "suck" mostly comes from the INCREDIBLY LONG ANIMATION AND INTERRUPT TIME of the power. For these snipes to actually "work" in pvp, you'd need to be able to 12 slot them (3 dmg, 3 acc, 3 interrupt, 3 range) to actually make them even "somewhat" useful imho, and sadly, that's obviously NOT an option lol.

Basically, what I've noticed in pvp, is that EVERY single TINY obstacle that "may" have the possibility of interrupting your snipe...will. A tree, a fence, a cardboard box, hell I think a stiff breeze would And with how much people hop around and move in pvp, it makes using these snipes extremely hard to accomplish. Heck, even when trying to engage someone who is busy fighting another player. They move in-and-out of range constantly (and no, the 150 ft isn't enough at all in a regular pvp zone...), they dodge behind obstacles, etc. These snipes animation times are simply horrendous as well, being over 7 seconds long. Sure, you can decrease the "interrupt time" with enhancements, but the animation time remains the same. This means that for SEVEN whole seconds...you can't attack or anything. Furthermore, you have less than 3 seconds worth of build up left for your follow up attack...

All these drawbacks...and for what? A piddly 350-400 dmg (with resistances)? And that's even OFF of a crit. Snipes in their current form for Stalkers...are simply NOT worth it. Trust us on this one.

If the dev's want to make them even "somewhat" worth it in pvp, they'll need to seriously consider bringing OUR snipes in line with the other AT's Snipes, as well as increasing their damage by a pretty good margin, because currently, they completely suck
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Really? I'd put Corruptors only behind Blasters and Dominators in terms of PvP ability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yea, if you're talking Elec/Therm...

Anything short of that, I'd even put them behind Tankers tbh. They provide very little, both buff-wise (thanks to DR) and survivability/damage-wise.

I'd definately rank them above SoA's at least though.

BS I beleive is the best PvP set for Scrappers, and thats why they should be paying more attention to what they are porting in return.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I HIGHLY doubt BS will be all that great on a Stalker...in fact, I'm almost certain that it "won't" be any good in pvp. EM and ELA will still be better choices, as will Spines.

    /Invul? =/ meh....

Sadly my first suggestion is reroll with a better pvp primary

No toon of mine got hit harder by i13 than my ice/cold. Ice blast is pretty much the worst of it thanks to the dpa changes. And the stacked slows got gutted pretty bad as well. You can still pretty much kill a squishies recharge but it will still take a while to whittle them down. You can still get the same slows from just /cold and add a lot more offense with son/ rad/ or fire/ for a primary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    +1

My ice/cold used to be my preferred dueling toon - now it's reduced to hunting badgers or solo toons doing missile runs in WB. Sad.

I'm still trying to find a new corr combo I like as much, though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Me too

    I have a Rad/Cold too...but I haven't proc'd him or IO'd him out yet...so he's still pretty "meh" to me right now.

My Dark/Cold is in the same boat.

I think I'm actually going to roll with Rad/Dark as my next pvp toon though...tbh. I'm running out of decent Corruptor ideas, as Corruptors (in my mind) haven't been all that hawt in pvp as of late
  22. DarkMaster

    Therm MMs (PvP)

Me? I'm still waiting to see what Demon Summoning brings, if it's ANYTHING like the Demon's I'm thinking (rather hoping) they'll be, I don't think we're going to be dissapointed at all, in both pvp and pve.

Other than that though, and if Demons turn out to be one major dissapointement, I'll be rolling either a Thug/Therm or Ninja/Therm for pvp.
  23. In response to the title of this thread: In short, yes.
  24. Uhm....I don't know what you're trying to say, honestly.

Prior to i13...what else did you find on the pvp field?

    [u]Blasters[u]:

    Fire/Em
    Ice/Em

and a couple */Dev's of that variant.

    [u]Defenders[u]:

    Rad/Psi

    Empathy/*

    [u]Scrappers[u]:

    Spine/Regen

    BS/Regen

    *Nothings changed here...go go regin...

    [u]Tankers[u]:

    Ice/Em

    Invln/Em -or- SS

    [u]Stalkers[u]:

    Em/Regen

    Em/Nin

    *Spines get's an honorable mention

    [u]Brutes[u]:

    Em/ELA

    Em/FA

    [u]Corruptor[u]:

    Ice/Cold

    Fire/Cold

    Dark/Cold

    Rad/Therm

(Corrs were undoubtfully probably the "most" diverse back then and they still are...only most Corr builds suck now)

    [u]Dominators[u]:

    Mind/Fire

    .....just to name a few.....

......so....honestly, if you ask me...things are no different now...than they were then. We simply have a few slightly "different" FoTM's now, that's all. In the end, you'll always have your FoTM's: the toons that will perform the "best" in most situations. That, is a given, and almost completely unavoidable. I don't think anything has changed about that at all.

I'd go as far as to say that there are WAY more "viable" pvp toons available to us these days (viable meaning: you can take them into any given pvp zone and at least do decently, even versus certain FoTM's) than there were in the past. Honestly, in the past, if you weren't one of the "top 2" FoTM/OP'd setups of your AT....you simply weren't worth crud. In fact....I distinctly recall people "LOLing" at anyone who wanted to "venture outside the box" on pvp toons. It just didn't happen often.

Not that it happens "often" anymore either, but I do think the "potential" for it to happen more often is definately more here now than it was before.

Ok, tried some pvp in sirens with my test build. Did pretty good in a duel with a regen scrap that I almost won, only had acc slotted in my attacks except AS. Did a respec and tweaked it more to pvp taking all available powers from the secondary and only havoc punch, AS, thunderstrike, bu and placate from the primary and stealth, hasten+ss, cj+sj. Tried another duel with the same scrap and I was doing some better dmg but was sucking wind w/out stamina. I was more focused with slotting up my secondary for protection than my primary for dmg. Should I really be worried about buffing my protection first or equal it out with the dmg or full on dmg?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sadly, you will simply cannot beat a Regen Scrapper that has even half a clue about how to pvp and play his toon...in fact, there are ALOT of toons who, as a solo Stalker, you simply cannot beat....tis the curse of the Stalker.

So basically, don't feel bad. You probably did just fine.
