Going to agree with a lot of posters here. The designs are simple but very underwhelming. I think that as a piece of merchandising, they should sell the fun of the game more and none of them do. So far, I've never seen any CoX T-shirts I'd consider buying.
In the end, I had my own made from a Draw The World Together sketch. So good The Cat tried to buy it. Go figure. -
My very first toon here was a Kat/Dark Scrapper. Took my a lot of perseverance to get him into his 30s (hey, this was a few years ago
).
Then I rolled a Claws/Regen and he suddenly never got played again. I think the only time he comes out is if friends are doing something around level 40 as I have no-one else in that range. Shame really. -

Sometimes team make up means that isn't possible, you need to switch, and now you have 24 merits on an empath thats never gonna use them.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the number one reason I dislike merits.
However I believe that the last statement I saw on the matter from the Devs indicated that nothing is going to be changing on this front unfortunately. If I can, I'll find the link.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is why im constantly confused by people saying they dislike merits. Before merits you had to work through a taskforce to get that random drop. Now you can work through a taskforce and possibly get multiple random drops.
The end result is the same, you have to TRADE the recipe you want on another character over. The only difference being is that its now far easier/quicker to get the one you want.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but as a casual player, I have say, 20 odd merits on about 6 of my characters, mainly from playing through story arcs and providing a useful AT for a TF/SF or two. Now if I could put them all into a pile, I might actually be able to afford something. For now, they sit in my salvage tray looking shiny. And useless.
(Rant about my hatred for Merit Vendors deleted as it's not pertinent to this discussion.)

Trust me, you don't know what despair is until you've had to explain to your new manager what it is you do and why it's important. Next they'll remind me about the changes to TPS reports.
*sigh*
Like all good management speak, this reminds me of Shakespeare when he said, 'full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing'. I had to disengage my Management BS Filter (tm) in order to be able to read it.
Still, no idea what this will mean for us, hopefully nothing too terrible. -

Having run around like a loon trying to find that last hiding hostage, yes, a sound effect would be nice. But I've got no idea how it could realistically be introduced. -

Well, at least I was half right. Personally, I'm excited but if I consult my tarot deck, I forsee that there'll be a vocal number of players upset about this along with the usual shouts of 'DOOM'(tm) and arguments about NCWest's marketing strategy.
Actually, scratch that, I don't need a tarot deck to forsee that.
Still, this has already got a good few ideas flowing in my head and I'll be curious to see how the 'switch' is handled in terms of story. Woo hoo!

Hello and welcome.
There's a sticky thread at the top of this page with all the RPSG/VGs in it but it's starting to show its age now. Pious provided a good summary of the major ones around at the moment in this thread:
http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/showfl...e=0#Post1356799
You're always welcome to come and have a browse around The Militia's forums which also incorporates The Cadre, their villanous counterparts as well. Good luck finding one that suits you. -

Lol, just proves how much NC wastes PR, no shiney new stuff to talk about, just the past and the present. I mean, they're on a major American gaming channel. Surely they're going to say something a bit new, at least?
[/ QUOTE ]
Shiny and new?
Oh hi there we just hit 5 years. Oh look we have a really funky mission creator and we are bringing back/creating a new super villain in our next free update.
You were expecting more really?
The latest issue went live and 5th anniversary were less than 2 weeks ago and the interview is to bring in new/ex players rather than those in game at the moment.
What you should be doing is omg [censored] wow City of Heroes got some air time on a major gaming channel to spin the game in a positive and evolving light with shitloads of content and if its not enough you can make your own story-arcs.
Paragon studios cant win they are pretty much dammed if they do something and dammed if they don't.

Well said that man! -
I think I'd be more ok with it if I knew the reasons why. I mean, was that map exploitable in some way? Was there a bug with it? Is it being fixed? Is it coming back?
It's the wall of silence I can't stand. Now I don't know whether to go an adjust my arc or wait to see if the map is going to be returned to us. -

Hearing ingame that the burning forest may have gone walkabout as well. Not confirmed that myself.

Oh for fudge's sake! -
Interesting concept. I'm quite the nature buff myself in RL so this interests me. I already have a nature based character, my Stone Tanker, Karnac who is a recovering victim of the Devoured Earth but who retains a link to the Earth Mother herself.
However, I'm on a bit of an RP break at the moment but would be more than happy to help knock some ideas around and see how this idea progresses. -
I agree with everything Burning Fist says here. The first 20 levels really do need revamping. Ok, the Midnighter arc is nice and I'm glad it's available to low level toons but the rest of the material needs looking at. Even though there are some fine low level arcs in the MA (there are, I've played them!) the lack of power, the endurance issues and all the other things already mentioned make that grind (especially between 10 and 22 as stated) a pain in the posterior.
[ QUOTE ]
Me I've been farming its true, mainly using my free subbed account (reactivation thing) to boost some of my main accounts lowbies to realms where the game is fun again (if such a thing is possible TBH).
[/ QUOTE ]
If I have been guilty of doing anything in the MA it's this. Some of my toons just get stuck at certain levels and dragging them up to a point when they're fun again helps a lot. People want to feel heroic or villainous and the early levels do not lend themselves to that, not anymore.
The real impact of the MA is that it means that the Devs now need to raise their game even further than before. Some player created arcs put the early level stuff to shame. What's needed is more Dev led innovation in missions by doing stuff that we simply cannot. Look at the fires in Steel Canyon for example. We cannot code that in the MA. We need more events like that. Not just more monsters stomping around but things that gather the community together, that present a new challenge. What if there was a Gang War between the Skulls and Hellions in Perez that needed breaking up? Or the Trolls marching on the police encampment in the Hollows?
In short, the old levels do need a new look, not only to give new players (and us old timers!) something new to do, but also to present a fresh image to anyone coming to the game for the first time. What presents a better image: a vibrant, active Atlas Park with various events going on or broadcast filled with 'LFF' messages? I know which I'd prefer. -

Let's not forget the secretive Dark Morris Dancers
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, that's Bedlam Morris alright. Glad to see my friends Hunter's Moon in there as well. I've considered joining them a few times. -

Morris dancing costume FTW! Ideally paired with a custom "stick" skin for Broadsword and a new "hanky" shield skin!

Only if it can be Bedlam Morris please. -

I'd totally make a swedish bikini team superhero

*resists urge to turn into Randy Pan the Goat Boy...*
Love the idea, I'd very much like to play a patriotic hero. The only thing it might detract from is Hero 1's iconic cape if a load of Brits start doing the same. And IIRC, no player characters can have signature character costume pieces. Other than that, a great idea.
Oh, and I should add, when I first saw the suggestion, I thought it was going to be a comedy suggestion for farmers so that they could get dungarees and straw hats to go with their occupation.Hell, I'd still support that, just so I could get a pitchfork!

/e shuffles and stands up, looking nervous...
Hi everyone, I'm Dante and I'm a tabasco-aholic. It started when I first sniffed a bottle. And then... the taste...
Oh... sorry, wrong therapy group. I'm an altoholic, roleplayer and convention nudist extraordinaire and I've been here since November 2005. Best birthday present I ever bought myself. Only two 50s and they took an age to get but still so much of the game to see and explore. So many things untried.
I'm either ingame with my RPSG, The Militia or running around on one alt or another. Right now I'm aiming at getting those last four levels on my MM so I can finally try out VEATS. So despite some disappointments, no, I'm not going anywhere.
Now where'd I leave that bottle? Ahhhh... the smell of it...! -

My main Psi Storm is Katana/DA and boy don't i know all about -end!
[/ QUOTE ]
Welcome to my personal hell. Kat/DA was my first ever toon here and I refuse to give up on him even though he still struggles at 40.
To the OP, I can only repeat what others have said:
1) Assess the damage your foes are doing and turn off the toggles you don't need. E.g. Purely Smash/Lethal? Turn off Murky Cloud.
2) Put Endurance Reducers in your primary attacks. Regardless of primary they will take a lot more off of your blue bar than your toggles.
3) If you're running CJ (which costs pittance), turn off Cloak of Darkness unless you're going for some kind of theme. The only other advantage it has is +Perception which isn't needed 80% of the time. If I could make one change to /Dark (aside from the endurance issue) I'd move that -immobilize somewhere else.
3) At least two endurance and two accuracy in Dark Regeneration. It's horribly end hungry and if it misses that just means you'll need to use it repeatedly.
4) Take, slot and love Oppressive Gloom. Slotted for accuracy and stun, it can cut a lot of incoming damage from minions.
5) I never bother to run Death Shroud unless I'm in a team. Its damage is minimal and it's another endurance sucking toggle I don't need. I find its cost to effectiveness ratio poor outside of teams where it truly shines.
6) Completely personal preference I'll admit, but don't bother with Cloak of Fear. I know I'm inviting a disagreement but it costs as much as Death Shroud, has horrible accuracy and limited effect. I find its effectiveness against endurance cost poor. Others may disagree of course and as they say YMMV.
7) As said, try and get a Karma -KB IO and shove it in CJ. Makes a world of difference.
8) Try and pick up endurance bonuses where you can. Atlas Medalion, IO sets with +recovery and the easiest one, log out in Arenas to get a +Max Endurance. Every little helps as dominating supermarket chains say.
9) Fighting Pool can help but I wouldn't bother with Weave unless you've got more defence to stack it with. It costs a lot for little return.
Hope that's some help. -

I reckon it'll be that as well, along with hints about 'going rogue'. -
I haven't got any numbers for you but I can tell you that it's really not worth enhancing their damage. They do very little and have no defences so it'd be a waste of a power to use Painbringer on them, better putting it on your Bruiser instead.
I slot mine with three recharge and use it as a distraction for when facing tough enemies as they die easily and don't contribute much in terms of damage output. However, because they crowd around a foe, they're great for distracting a boss or Hero while the rest of my thugs go to town on them.
I used to give them an accuracy and a couple of damage enhancements but have since changed to just the recharge and haven't noticed any difference in performance. I could believe it's possible to get it perma but have no hard evidence to back that up.
