How is this supposed to benefit the Western Market?, I don't get it personally, but there you go.

It doesn't benefit us really; it's just one of those stock bull**** management/PR phrases that they use when they have to say something about a change that shafts someone in their company.
It's the short-term, spreadsheet analysis approach where if you take out employee x you save x amount of dollars and make yourself more 'competitive' by not paying that salary each month.
What the spreadsheet monkeys often fail to see is what that guy actually contributed to making things run in that area.
Nothing unusual about it - working for company owned by a mega-giant American company I see similar justifications made all the time by people who are so distant from what happens on the ground in that territory that they can only see the spreadsheets and fail to see how they're crippling the organisation by letting key people go.
British companies can be just as idiotic (if you're in London, no matter how incompetent, you're indispensable key staff: work in a regional office, even in Brum or Manchester, and you're a redshirt)
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Trust me, you don't know what despair is until you've had to explain to your new manager what it is you do and why it's important. Next they'll remind me about the changes to TPS reports. *sigh*
Like all good management speak, this reminds me of Shakespeare when he said, 'full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing'. I had to disengage my Management BS Filter (tm) in order to be able to read it.
Still, no idea what this will mean for us, hopefully nothing too terrible.

I really should do something about this signature.
It signifies that Richard Garriott has launched an enormous lawsuit which uses Chungs name almost exclusively.

They woulda gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you pesky barbarians.

So when they said:
"This personnel change increases our ability in each market to remain competitive."
they really meant
"This personnel change increases our ability in each market to not get our [censored] sued to oblivion."?
Makes some sense.

It's probably more a case of, "Your new office is next to mine, and comes equipped with twelve people who will follow you around and stare at you intently all day, everyday, because we don't feel particularly safe without at least four pairs of eyes that answer to us watching you at any given moment."

I suspect this is closer to the truth than anyone at NC West dare admit. CEOs are not usually demoted within a year, Companies not re-integrated back closer to home if they have not done something wrong or are underperforming in the eyes of the parent company.
I think NCsoft Korea looked on in horror as Chung and the legal team over at Austin,Texas dragged the good name of NCSoft through the mud with their alledged manipulation of Richard Garriott, and this is one almighty smack on the wrist for them. Chungs demoted but stays on the executive board, and the company reintegrated where NCsoft can keep a keener eye on it.
So NCSoft's CEO Chung screwed up and committed fraud and negligent misrepresentation, he then gets demoted, and because of this the parent company are moving their subsidiary company closer to home?
Yeah, if the koreans can't take the heat of the western market, keep their games in korea. Although CoX is a more westernized game than say, Lineage 2, 2moons, silkroad, rohan, 9 dragons.
All equipment based games too
and before anyone wants to mention it, world of warcraft sucks.

Only because they don't have the undercarriage to take that politically correct stuff, and hurl it with considerable gusto out the window.
EU region servers should be one fat server (or two), for the whole EU. The idea that our little worlds will collapse because we don't have a server just for our own language is insulting and stupid, a Spanish person on such a unified EU server will just speak Spanish until someone speaks Spanish back at him, what the hell does it matter? They'll make their own native language speaking groups and such anyway but ones that can speak English can mob in with us too. Or French. Or German. Or whatever bilingual ability they have. The ability to make specific community broadcast channels in MMO's is hardly rare either, you can just have language specific channels.
But no, instead the EU seems to always be loaded down with triple linguistic server madness that splits a small number of players into even smaller groups while shoving up the cost to maintain the service for them. I doubt BlueRabbit would still be playing if he couldn't speak English and could only go on a Portugese server with four other people and a cat that's trying to eat the computer mouse.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't tend to be thrown into a game hating fury when a German has the audacity to speak german in my general vicinity.

My friend shade who's from venezuela just plays union and joins one of the many spanish speaking channels. Unify them at once!!
Besides, english IS the majority of the language on this game, not to mention the entire world, followed closely by spanish and chinese (correct me if i'm wrong on that)
but INGAME, the majority do seem to speak english, so germans and frenchies and the other nationalities should be encouraged to mix with us instead of seperating us on the basis we don't speak the same language.
If for every english speaking person there was 2 german speakers or spanish, then yes the language barrier would become a problem, but as it stands it simply isn't the case, and probably never will be.

As for native languages Mandarin should be in top (the various Chinese dialects vary enough that one could argue there is no single spoken Chinese language).
I think English and Hindi are next and roughly equal and Spanish slightly behind those.
English may be the most spoken second language though.

It is easily the most spoken second language, only Mandarin equals English in estimated numbers of worldwide speakers, and 60% of that number is native Chinese.

Easily. Well, obviously nothing is never as simple as merely 'number of countries', but I can kind of see where you're coming from. Other languages can manage a decent raw population count, but nothing even gets close to touching English in terms of being the language used in the halls of power across the world, whether that's political or economic.
You can learn Mandarin if you want, but you're gonna find yourself going to some seriously rural places to meet the majority of the people speaking it.
