  1. Something that amazes me is how little effort would make a big difference to us. Yes, a whole new Base Editor with all the bangs and whistles would be nice. But IMHO we'd be happy with some easier stuff now and a promise of more later. More decorations, windows with scenes in them. A floor tile you can't see through from the bottom. Sure the moon and the stars would be great but I'd be thrilled with a few little things now and more down the road.

I understand Rome wasn't built in a day.

The problem is that improving base editing is likely a huge amount of work (based on comments the devs have made) which provides value for a relatively small fraction of the player base.

How much effort went into PvP which is also a very small percentage of the player base? They even made new Recipes with special PvP effects.

If Bases are outdated it's because the devs allowed them to become so. If they now have less functionality it's because Bases have not evolved as much of the game has.

The base editing system needs a complete overhaul. It's not a simple flick of the wrist fix.

They are - and I know you'll take umbrage with this, so I'm sorry - working on more important things.

We didn't NEED the trams and ferries to be merged to get from 1-50...but they did it.

We don't NEED tons of costumes and emotes to get from 1-50...but we get those too.

We didn't NEED the whole Incarnate System since that begins after we hit 50...but the devs have devoted a whole issue to it.

I once read that some guy got to 50 using Brawl...he kept leveling but never trained. So we don't NEED most of what we have to get from 1-50...but it makes it more fun.

Base Editing makes the game more fun for Base Editors...

  7. I agree that names are important and they can be tough. But creative use of the language can help. For example:

A plant-based character named Thorn. Name is taken. Ok...how about Thornn or Thorrnn? Adding something descriptive can help gel a costume idea like Scarlet Thorn in red or Ebon Thorn in black.

Other things can help like adjectives. Mighty Thorn, Bloody Thorn and so on.

I sometimes add in a title like Infameous or Magnificent.. I had dozens of players asking me how my lvl 2 MM The Infameous Dr Zombie got a title so early.

One strategy I saw recently was ignoring the doors during the Escapee phase and just pile players up at the two sidewalk choke points. Not only were we able to focus ALL of our power in two places the lag was reduced.

4 teams of 6 splits more evenly than 3 of 8.

    Game population

Actually this is very germain to the topic. My friends who understand better than I do tell me that roughly 10% of a game's population can be expected to be on at any one time. If this is the case then at peak times when Virtue and Freedom are red (maybe 3000 players each?) and the other ten servers are yellow (about 1000 players each?) that's 16000 players. If the 1/10 numbers are accurate that puts the playerbase at around 160k or close to the estimates.

Remember that casual play is subjective. Some players can play for an hour a day or maybe 8-10 hours a week total. But when they DO play they're very intense. However I play 3-4 hours a day (until tomorrow when I go back to work) and I consider myself a casual player.

In other words, it might be that part of the reason the bubbles are so effective is that they are a hassle.

Many of the buffs work this way. Healing is the most obvious example but the individual bubbles provide more defense than Dispersion Bubble and so on. The single-target buffs are always more effective than the AoE buffs in some way even if it's just End cost or duration. This prevents buffs from being overpowered.

Imagine the AoE version of some of the T8 or T9 buffs like Adrenalin Boost...
  12. I'm willing to wait if they do it well. I've enjoyed their last few powersets quite a bit.
  13. I understand that only a small percentage of players read or post to the Forums. However the fact that they DO make the effort to come here, read and even post shows that they have a more than casual interest in the game. They like being informed.

There is no way for us to know if the players on the Forums are a good representation of the playerbase as a whole. However I don't think its unreasonable to take the Forumites as a good and representative sample of all the players.

If this is the case then a simple head count of the number of players who have expressed opinions for and against the turnstile system would put some of the arguements to rest. From what I've seen there are far more posters in disagreement with the system than who agree with it.

One of the things that the Devs should try to do is keep the majority of their players happy. The players support the game...not the Devs or their opinions or goals. If the Devs do something that most of the players really don't like then this is bad for the game in general.

From what I've read the majority of the players posting here don't like the turnstile system as it stands. This alone should prompt the Devs to reconsider the system.

Happy players spend lots of money. Unhappy players spend little money. Pissed-off players spend none.
  14. This is one of the main reasons for trying to get personal rooms. Many people want to tinker with Base editing but they need to start small, in a controlled environment.

An idea that I had was to give players private quarters (which they want) with editing permissions (so they can play) in a Base Pack (so the bosses see some financial gain). Since the Devs seem to want an Inf sink, decorate with Inf instead of Prestige. Allow players to buy personal storage (another popular request) for added security.

The management still has the right to let other people in if the reservation is less than the available seating, at -their- discretion, not the people booking a less than full group.

The same thing applies to the LFG queue. A full league books the entire reservation for the trial, a partial league is open to other people joining.

    Analogy fail there...sorry.

If I have a league event in the RWZ and other people show up, they're sitting in the restaurant.

If I have a trial and uninvited people show up they're not in the restaurant, they're sitting at our tables eating our food and sharing our conversation. Even if they pay their own tab they're uninvited.

As for my earlier point regarding the idea of ONLY being able to enter the trials via the turnstile, I can say with some degree of certainty that players would stop using them and express their disfavor with their 'unsub' buttons. The level of negativity in this and similar threads is a pretty good indicator of that.

And if you feel so strongly in favor of the system, would it be possible for you to validate your beliefs by ONLY using the turnstile system from now on? I mean you advocate using it, you apparently hope the Devs will change the system to make it mandatory, so my only question is are you strong enough in your convictions to lead the charge and be the first to do so?

Other players might consider trials their quiet time. They pay their sub the same as you do. Who are you to decide which is right?

A person not acting is neither contributing or aiding. They are a non-entity. Unless they actively go out of their way to disrupt the trial, then they will have zero effect on a premade league. If they do go out of their way to disrupt the trial, people on the league can file a petition against the offender.

Ah but by merely being IN the trial they've changed it. They add to spawn size and their added FX might contribute to crashes by others.

    Quote:
And the developers, by automatically putting people in the queue on teams and forcing teams to use the queue to start the trials, are telling players that they expect players to realize that there isn't such a thing as a private league when it comes to these trials.

And the ENTIRE POINT of this thread and others like it is to tell the Devs we don't agree with their expectations. To explain why we don't agree with their expectations. To try to offer alternatives to their expectations.

Oh and btw if they didn't want players to have private (pre-built) leagues then they would FORCE them to use the turnstile ALL THE TIME. I wonder how long that idea would last...

    Quote:
I'm a programming and web designer, not a lawyer. However narrowing down a process and reducing things to their basics is, in my opinion, a trait that both programmers and lawyers have.

I'm in Quality Assurance and Inspection. This means that it's my job to spot mistakes and try to track them back to their source. Sometimes we use complex terms and diagrams for this, sometimes simple flow charts are sufficient. For the current situation I would use a simple cause/effect chart.

Effect: Players are unhappy with the current turnstile system for trials. Cause: The current system is forcing players to accept members to their league they do not want for whatever reason. Effect: Players are pre-building leagues to avoid unwanted players from being added to their league. Cause: See previous cause. Effect: Players attempting to use the turnstile system may have unreasonably long wait times because very few league leaders do not use pre-built leagues. Cause: See previous cause.

In my line of work when you have this many negative effects stemming from a single cause, you need to rethink the cause.

    Quote:
As far as intent, the people are posting their intent for all to read. Their intent is to have private leagues, either by a lock or by kicking. People are so fixated on that intent that they refuse to see anything positive about the system as it is working.

It's not that they refuse to see the positive sides of the system, they simply feel that the negatives outweigh them. And again, they pay their subs as well so you cannot say that your opinion is more right than theirs.

    Quote:
Try this instead: plan on additional people joining you, if they don't then relax. If they do, treat it as an opportunity to meet someone new and have a potential new SG buddy. There is plenty of other content available if you absolutely must have a SG only event.
Translation: You should always bring enough food and drink for 1-2 extra guests to show up at your party whether you want them there or not. I don't care if you're holding a private party, the fact that you're holding it at the subdivision's clubhouse means that when the two guys from down the block show up you HAVE to let them in if you have room. Yes, you paid for your condo and paid for the maintenance of the clubhouse but then so did they so what makes you better than them? Don't think of it as an intrusion...think of it as a chance to meet your neighbors. If you really want a PRIVATE party you can simply host it in your home. Home not big enough for 16-24 friends and family? Rent a hall. Never mind the fact that we're completely disrupting your group to try and enforce the rights of the minority here.

Give me your address. Host a cookout someday for JUST people you know. It could be special, like a costume party. I'm going to show up dressed inappropriately. I'm going to bring food and drink so I'm not mooching but I'm going to be dressed in a way not fitting with the occasion. Oh by the way I'm bringing some drunken guy that you don't know and I don't even know. He might be a swell guy for all we know...but he might not. Think of it as a way to meet a new golf buddy.

So you're saying that you seldom play with people you don't know but you advocate the LFG system which may force other players to do trials with strangers? Wow...that's shallow.

    Quote:
A non-entity can't hinder anything. At most they can be helpful to the success, at worst they have no effect.
Not true. Such a player might foil an MO attempt by inactivity. By not contributing they might also cause the trial to fail by lack of time where their contribution might have aided in success.

To me it comes down to people playing they way they want to play. The game was built around this idea. Several of the recent changes (notably the new Diff Sliders) are specifically designed to let players play the way they want.

Part of the problem is how inaccurate the wait times are in the LFG queue. If they accurately reflected how many people were waiting it would be a better indicator. The system can't predict how long the wait in the queue will be because it might go from 1 person listed with an hour estimated wait time to 8 because seven players suddenly join.

A more accurate way would be to list how many are waiting and how long since the first person queued up and the last person. If the difference in times is low and the minimum is nearly met then the player might elect to stay. If the difference is an hour and the last person queued up more than 30 minutes ago then the player might elect not to stay. Either way the player should have this information so he can make an informed choice. The current estimated wait time is useless.

And if I may say Snow you likely make a wonderful lawyer in RL. The way you split hairs over questions and use the letter rather than the intent of conversations is staggering.

I'm simply trying to avoid situations where my SG buddies and I want to run an all-SG event or whatever and we wind up with the odd man. The poor guy might have waited 30 minutes for a Trial and because he wound up on ours he might have missed a chance for one that was open to non-SG members or whatever.

It might also be useful if the Devs tracked how many players queued up for a trial, how long they waited and how many left versus getting into a trial. That way if only a tiny percentage of the playerbase uses the thing they might abandon it or at least not waste more time and resources on it.

  20. Easiest way is to schedule it as others have said. That way people will be more likely to have the time etc. You may wind up leading it yourself which is a good learning experience.
  21. Not to be blunt but I reccomend learning the ways of Mids. Best way to do that is just play with it. Build your character as he is now then save it. Play with the saved version. The View Totals button will show you the combined stats for your character.

Now a few notes if I may:

    1) You like to blap but you have two snipes? If you're doing it for set bonuses then there are better ways to go. If it's to be effective there are better ways to go. If it's for theme then they're fine.

    2) You have no Reduced Recharge on Build Up or Aim. This means you only have them every 90 seconds minus any Recharge set bonuses. These two powers make you MUCH more effective. They need to fire more often. I'd ditch what you have in them now and 3-slot them with Recharge.

    3) If End is a problem go do the Oroborous arc to unlock your Alpha Slot and grab Cardiac. Not only will this drastically cut your End use on everything it also adds 20% to your range once you get the higher tiers of it.

    4) If you go the Cardiac Alpha route you can drop Conserve Power for something more useful: Combat Jumping. Drop in a Stealth IO and you can get closer to the enemy without drawing fire.

    5) Think about putting a Devastation: Chance for Hold into your two main blasts. This gives you a chance to stack Holds on Bosses and to hold Minions for later thumping.

    6) Remember what I said about Aim and Build Up? Same thing goes for Hasten. 3-slot this with Recharge so you can use it more often.

    7) Not sure I see the point in Fly AND Super Speed. Just saying...

    8) Many of your slots in your melee attacks come late. You might want to think about trying for 1-2 earlier on in the build on the off chance you do a TF with someone. You don't want your blapping to be curtailed by losing slots or powers that you put in later. Whatever you like to use most should come as early in the respec as possible.

    9) One of the things you'll be delighted to find on Mids is an Endurance Modifier set called Performance Shifter. If you slot the proc from this into a fourth Stamina slot it has a chance to give you End back at a fairly good pace.

    10) You'll also find several procs from the Healing sets that give you added Regen, Recovery or both. Drop these into your Health slots and forget them. You'll be happier.

    State of KB?

All of the tactics above, especially communication, are good. Some other things to remember though:

You have a secondary...use it. The KB from melee attacks is easier to leverage into something useful than at range.

As was mentioned up-thread, nobody cares if the stragglers get knocked around. I have a 'Target Nearest' and a 'Target Farthest' on hotkeys. If we hit a mob and I know that scattering them away would be bad, I target the last one on the OTHER SIDE and hit him. With a ST attack he goes flying and we clean him up as we go. On an explosion it actually blows the rest of the mob towards us which is generally a good thing. Blasting them against the wall with a side shot is also fun.

Pick your targets. See the Malta Sapper? I bet you could knock him a mile and not hear a peep. Bosses tend to be KB resistanst so you can likely blast away at those no problem. Rikti Comm Officers and Mentalists tend to fall into this catagory too.

The fact that you actually care enough to ask this question means you'll be popular on teams.
  23. How odd.

Reading over this (and I don't follow the damage data fields this closely usually) it looks like the game switched you and your target.

"HIT Victoria Noir! Your Particle Burst power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 79.04."

The fact that this is in the first person from the target's POV makes it sound like the game has the two of you confused.

"Victoria Noir HITS you! Particle Burst power had a 95.00% chance to hit and rolled a 79.04."

Same thing since the character hit YOU (i.e. the Repair Companion). What I find more interesting though is that his PBB has a 5% chance to hit but his PB has a 95% chance? Is that thing an autohit or something?

The rest of the damage record is simply PB damaging you since it 'Hit' you once, the rest will follow.

I would seriously /bug this and send it up for someone to look at.
  24. Some of the things that IMHO should be fixed first before we go wholesale slaughter on Pet sets and other MM issues:

    1) Stay means STAY as others have said.

    2) All pets should be on a 60' leash as a default. This is the range for Supremacy and most pets cannot survive outside of it for long. Pets should never move outside this range of their own volition. If the MM orders them or outside forces (like KB) move them then then that's fine.

    3) All pets should have a simple If-Then command string added to their AI that allows them to fire their ranged attacks first and THEN close to melee. Pets never designed to be in melee should have NO melee attacks except Brawl and should always fire other ready attacks first.

    4) Now that pets zone with us I'd almost rather go back to the old summon/upgrade system. A MM could summon and upgrade once and then not worry about it mission after mission, simply replacing losses as needed. However the auto-upgrade on summoned pets does seem to be a much more straightforward solution.
  25. For me I like Unstoppable unless my build is so tight that I need another Power. Then it goes. Do I miss it when its gone? Sure...sometimes.

My tactics for using it are something like this: Get into trouble. Hit Dull Pain. Hit Unstoppable. DP lasts 120 seconds, Unstop 180 (longer than the soft-crash T9s btw). Once DP drops I know that I have less than a minute to set up for the crash. I have a macro that announces to the team that Unstop is about to crash so I don't have to worry about them saying 'Hey where you going?' as I bolt out of the action.

Btw I have DP's Recharge at 185 seconds on my Brute so after the crash I pop some blues, hit DP and start the lengthy process of turning all my toggles back on. It takes longer to do this last part than anything else.

Personally I'd use the power more if it had a 90% crash instead of toggle-dropping. I could survive the former but seldom the latter and if I'm tanking running away from the fight seems like a bad idea for my team.
