    How bad is Gravity?
It's inescapable in my experience. I stay firmly planted on the ground consistently, despite my best efforts.
  2. Okay, here's my take on a Dark Control and Dark Assault.

I'm thinking it extremely unlikely that Controllers will get access to Dark Miasma as it exists for MMs, Defenders, and Corruptors, so several powers from that would end up in a Dark Control.

    It'd look something like this:

    Tier 1: Penumbral Grasp
    Tier 2: Abyssal Gaze
Tier 3: A targeted AoE Version of Tenebrous Tentacles
Tier 4: Tar Patch (enhanceable for slow)
    Tier 5: Fearsome Stare
Tier 6: Shroud of Night - Basically a combination of Chill of the Night and Death Shroud. PBAoE aura with a 15' radius, 15% to-hit debuff, 20% damage debuff, minor damage (about half of Hot Feet)
Tier 7: AoE hold of some kind
Tier 8: Unique power of some sort
Tier 9: Permanent version of Dark Servant

    For the Dark Assault:

    Tier 1: Dark Blast
    Tier 2: Smite
    Tier 3: Shadow Maul
    Tier 4: Gloom
    Tier 5: Moonbeam
Tier 6: Oppressive Gloom or Cloak of Fear (there is precedent, Icy Assault has Chilling Embrace and Earth Assault has Mudpots)
    Tier 7: Night Fall
    Tier 8: Midnight Grasp
Tier 9: Short range, high damage attack of some kind.

That's what *I'D* do with a Dark Control/Dark Assault set.
  3. I'd rather see a Dark Control get a permanent Dark Servant instead. It's already a viable pet, just remove the duration so it will stick around.

It should probably get a Targeted AoE immobilize instead of a cone.

How about Oppressive Gloom or Cloak of Fear? (one or the other)

Fearsome Stare should be in a Dark Control set as well.

IMO, a Dark Assault set should be predominately damage dealing powers, so just copying Dark Manipulation over wouldn't work so well.

I'll check in further with my take on it later.

To give them that true 'Tech' feel, it would be awesome if we could tie in Gun+Backpack type appearances, or 'Power Gauntlets' or the like.
The guns would be a new effect, but you can do Power Gauntlets already just using costume pieces and the default animations for most sets. I have several characters I already do that with.

I never said anything about them being unable to. I'm sure if our current dev team really put their minds to it they could destroy the game just fine.

I was saying they shouldn't even try to make it work.

The suggestion is, essentially, to take the past 7 years of balancing the game and throw it out the window in favor of bringing back a character creation system that was originally scrapped because it Did. Not. Work.

Why did I say balancing the GAME instead of just balancing the powers? Because the game is balanced to allow any AT with any power set combination to solo at default difficulty. Remove constraints on power set choices, and you will quite frequently find characters built as "pure support" that have no attacks at all aside from Brawl. Why is that a problem? Because they still have to be able to complete a mission on their own.

To put it bluntly: Trying to shoehorn free form power selection into a 7 1/2 year old game that has never had it, is a horrible idea. It will tie up the ENTIRE dev team for the better part of the next 3 years trying to find some semblance of balance in there, during which everything they are working on now will come to a complete standstill. No new content, no fixes to problems no anything (except maybe a few new story arcs, because the writers will need something to do)

There are a few possibilities here.

    B) The person/people telling you this are complete gibbering idiots.

    C) The person/people telling you this have no idea how to build a character in this game.

    D) Possibly both B and C (but probably not A)
  7. Why did you slot Parry (an attack) with a full set of a defense set? (that confers no accuracy or damage)

You're already hurting your damage output by using it so much, if you don't at least slot it for damage you're hurting your damage even more.

I like to slot procs in it if I don't need the slots for set bonuses. Since I'm spamming it so much it gives a good return on any procs I put in it, especially the Hecatomb proc if I can afford it. Alternately, if you want positional defense, a full set of Mako's Bite.

Burn won't crit. Only powers in scrapper primaries and pool powers (Boxing, Air Superiority, Laser Beam Eyes) will crit.

If you notice, your Blazing Aura never crits either, even though Quills (Spines) will indeed crit.

    3 Thunderstrike for 2.5% E/N defense, and 3 Maelstrom's Fury for 1.88% F/C defense.

Why do you keep bringing this up?

Changing the color of your powers has NOTHING to do with freeform power selection. They are not even remotely similar. Your character having blue fire has zero effect on how the game works. None whatsoever.

You keep saying that they did Power Customization, so why can't they do this, while sweeping under the rug the fact that the two things have NOTHING in common in terms of their affect on the game.

Being able to have blue fire powers and being able to choose any powerset combination you want are 2 COMPLETELY different things. Saying that because they did one there is no reason not to do the other is just flat out ridiculous.

Oppressive Gloom is NOT going to happen.

I was wrong about both Tenebrous Tentacles and Life Drain, I freely admit that.

But, Oppressive Gloom is also in Soul Mastery.

There is flat out no way in HELL the devs are going to let us stack 2 copies of Oppressive Gloom and stun bosses just by standing next to them.

Cloak of Fear could have been interesting, but if it were ported unchanged from the Dark Armor version, I would be very unhappy with it. Do you really WANT a power that costs that much end to run and only has an accuracy of a little over 50%? (as opposed to the usual 75%) You have to at least 4 slot the power before you can even USE it as it stands now. They'd be doing us a disservice if they gave us that power unchanged.

You can START the process, you just can't finish it.

I'm unsure if you can keep them as a Vigilante. If you can, you can run your tips while you wait to spend the merits.

That.....actually has nothing to do with it.

It's based in the storyline of Praetoria. The entire world is much more morally gray than Primal Earth is. In Praetoria, everyone is what a Primal Hero-type would consider a villain.

You can't start a Hero in Praetoria because Heroes quite simply don't exist there Neither do villains. A true Hero would have no idea who hes supposed to fight and who he is supposed to rescue, because, to his eyes, they'd ALL be the bad guys.

It also doesn't make any sense, storyline wise, for the Primal Earth authorities to send a brand new hero with no experience into the virtual war zone that is Praetoria. A fledgling Primal hero going there would be a death sentence.

The graphical quality really has very little to do with it. It's mostly A) story-driven, and B) as simple as hey, check out the new stuff we just busted our butts on.

"Hey, look how much better the graphics are here" is probably not very high on the devs' list of reasons why, if its on it at all.

Unless I missed something, he just ragequit because someone on the forums put him on their ignore list (namely me).

Not sure exactly why that would prompt a ragequit, but okay then. I'm sure I'm on a few people's ignore lists, and I really couldn't give a crap less.

If he thinks ragequitting over it is the proper response to being ignored.....ummm, I'm not even sure what to say about that.

Only thing I can think is maybe he enjoys when people pay attention to him, even if it's bad attention.

(Oh yeah, I remember why I had him on there now after viewing some of his posts in this thread.)

Yeah one Dev (who I believe doesn't even work here anymore, Please correct me if I'm wrong) once said he'd rather get rid of Stamina altogether than make Fitness inherent. But that was just him voicing his opinion, not him making a policy decision on what will be allowed in the game.

It was Castle. And he did say that. I suspected he got overruled on that and it played a part in his departure, but that was debunked. (that it had anything to do with him leaving, that is)

I have to admit to being a little surprised.

I thought for sure they were going to swap Tenebrous Tentacles for something else, due to an identical power existing in Soul Mastery.

I'm also a little surprised that Life Drain made the cut.

Sorry, annoying enemies is just part of game design. I can't think of a single game of any genre that doesn't include problematic enemies or annoying game mechanics.

Can you think of a game in which every enemy is easy to beat and there isn't a single annoying mechanic to be found?

Did Power Customization change how your characters functioned at the most basic level? No, it didn't.

Did Inherent Fitness change how your characters function at the most basic level? No, it didn't either.

This suggestion does exactly that. It completely scraps the very foundation of the Archetype system, which is essentially rebuilding the entire character creation process of the game from the ground up. Do you REALLY think the devs are going to do that, for no better reason than because one person pointed out that they COULD?

Power Customization and Inherent Fitness happened because they didn't change anything about how the game actually works.

    This idea does exactly that.

It's a staggering amount of work to do, and it changes everything about how the game works from character creation forward.

Why not just ask the devs to code a brand new game from scratch? It would probably be easier.

    That means absolutely nothing.

The fact that they don't have to be cookie-cutter builds does nothing to change the fact that once the players figure out the most effective combinations, the cookie cutter builds are going to happen anyway.

Go look in the Brute section and tell me how many threads you find on the first 2 pages about SS/Fire and farming. We already have cookie cutter builds, and a lot of people are playing the same thing. If your suggestion were done, I'd give it a month, tops, before some intrepid power gamer figures out he best combo and everyone is playing that instead of SS/Fire brutes.

You're completely discounting the fact that people interested in being the most powerful they can be will play whatever has been proven to be the most effective. All your suggestion does is enable those builds that people are going to use anyway to be even more broken.

It also completely ignores the fact that this idea will be a HUGE amount of work.

You're essentially saying the devs should rebuild everything about how the ATs function and balance against each other from scratch. And that juts plain ISN'T going to happen.

    This was my main point.

You can create a religion-based character now without needing a "holy" set. And it doesn't step on anyone's toes.

If you create a set and say that the power of the set comes from some sort of holiness, you're probably going to piss someone off with it.

Since there really isn't anything you can do with a "holy" set that you can't do already with something else, there is no reason to piss people off for no real reason.

Besides, you don't really expect them to add another damage type to the game just for that set, do you? It's going to have one of the damage types already in existence.

Since we can color our powers pretty much however we want now, just take whichever set you like the mechanics of the best and color it whatever your definition of holy powers would be.

This just occurred to me. If the bolded part is true, then getting mezzed will shut off your mez protection.

That's how they avoided breaking the cottage rule on that power.

Entropic Shield becomes Entropic Aura and gains a recharge boost and taunt effect. As far as I am aware though, it is still your mez protection as well.

Unless taunt is not considered an enemy affecting effect for the purposes of the shutdown mechanic, that could be very problematic indeed.
