How to start in Praetoria

I bought Going Rogue from Steam today. I logged in to my account and updated my account and it shows the new key. My account still says city of heroes / villains though. Not sure if it should say Going Rogue.

Anyway when I create a character I have no option to start in Praetoria. Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure you updated it instead of creating a new one, first. It *sounds* like you did, but that's the first thing to double check.

(And having GR won't show under the account,if you're looking where I think you are - when you log into plaync.com and your account info, and select your COH account, it'll still say:

ACCOUNT NAME
City of Heroes
City of Villains

... it doesn't add GR there. It doesn't even list it specifically under "Serial Codes," but you should see the last four of the code you added listed as "Expansion." (And save that code.)

Just so you don't freak about not seeing it listed specifically.

I logged in to my old nc soft account and it showed city of heroes and aion. I clicked on city of heroes and updated my account. I added the cd key from steam and it shows it listed below now.

The problem is when I create a new character it only lets me stat in atlas or galaxy.

Are you creating a Hero, a Villain, or a Praetorian?

Those should be the options presented when you select Create a Character.

As a side note, when I log in to my PlayNC account, it only lists it as City of Heroes/City of Villains. And I've had GR applied to my account since it was first offered for Pre-Purchase.

EDIT: Posts came in. Sounds like you are choosing to start a Hero. To start in Praetoria you have to select to start a Praetorian.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

/this. Hit Create Character, you should see... should have an image of it... yeah, here:

While you can take a hero to Pocket D and join friends in Praetoria (there's a portal down there,) you won't get missions of your own (aside from zone events.) Have to start as a praetorian.

Thanks that is the problem. I didn't realize you couldn't start a hero there.

Glad to be of help. And glad Bill had the image.

The reason for that is because the starting-level Hero zones are the oldest in the game, and therefore have the worst graphics. The Praetorian starting zones are the newest and best-looking. It makes business sense to make sure that brand-new players see the newest zones first, hence the railroading into Praetoria.

This will change with the next update (Issue 21) later this year; the starting-level Hero zone will get a major facelift.

That.....actually has nothing to do with it.

It's based in the storyline of Praetoria. The entire world is much more morally gray than Primal Earth is. In Praetoria, everyone is what a Primal Hero-type would consider a villain.

You can't start a Hero in Praetoria because Heroes quite simply don't exist there Neither do villains. A true Hero would have no idea who hes supposed to fight and who he is supposed to rescue, because, to his eyes, they'd ALL be the bad guys.

It also doesn't make any sense, storyline wise, for the Primal Earth authorities to send a brand new hero with no experience into the virtual war zone that is Praetoria. A fledgling Primal hero going there would be a death sentence.

The graphical quality really has very little to do with it. It's mostly A) story-driven, and B) as simple as hey, check out the new stuff we just busted our butts on.

"Hey, look how much better the graphics are here" is probably not very high on the devs' list of reasons why, if its on it at all.

Never mind, I was answering the wrong question.
