  1. I think I'll toss in A Wake For Dead 6 again.

Good luck getting anywhere near the same number of plays the average tip mission gets... then again, since those are limited in number, maybe that doesn't really make sense. Still, give it a whirl, who knows? I tend to bog myself down with creating rather involved scenarios (3+ missions per arc), maybe this would be a good way to avoid that.

Aw man, I accidentally clicked my Self Destruct again instead of my jet-pack! I hate it when I do that...

This, same reason few players ever do anything else than run trials.
  5. Yeah, the comments really make this article. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
  6. I hate the fact that every time a new one comes out, 90% of the population is running it for the next couple of months, leaving the rest of the game a ghost-town. I've about given up on trying to level support toons as I don't fancy power-PLing a new toon to 50 just to play end game content. End-game content can go swallow a rat as far as I'm concerned. I might try it someday once I actually have a 50 I'm not tired of playing (guess that's one reason to PL?) or I have a 50 who can actually be useful (coming up on my third 50, it's an MM...), but the idea of having to study up all homework-like on how to play each trial is too chore-like for me.

About four months ago I got myself a brand new, top-line computer to replace one that I had been using for around 4 years before. I had noticed with my old computer that over the years the game seemed to get more laggy and crash prone as time went on. At the end it got to the point where I was reliably crashing about every 1.5 or 2 hours of playing.

But as soon as I started using my new computer (again with its bleeding edge GPU, CPU, memory, etc.) I have not seen a crash or period of lagginess at all. Seriously - not one crash since I got my new computer in at least several hundred hours of play.

I think that just about every new Issue introduces a new set of memory leaks and/or graphics changes which puts just a little more strain on a given computer's ability to handle the game. If you're trying to play the game with an older/marginal computer to begin with then you're more likely to have problems than if you're playing on a top-end machine. Not sure there's really any "solution" to this other than keeping yourself ahead of the curve hardware-wise.
This was me 100% about four years back. These days, not so much. Time to get a new puter... if only these dental bills would quit popping up!

Thought I heard that was an urban myth...
  9. I'd heard good stuff about it, but never got around to trying to see it. Then last weekend, a friend sat me down and we watched the Christmas episode from this year. It's pretty funny stuff, sharply written for the most part.

Which means it probably will die a sad lonely death. Welcome to (American) TV. I'm still surprised when something good does last any time at all.

(No, I'm still not watching it however; my TV still thinks in analog :P but it plays DVDs just fine)
  10. I either eat some right before a big boss fight or when I'm starting to get clobbered as an "oh %$#&!" maneuver.

I've tried going through them "like candy" and invariably end up with a near-empty tray facing down a big bad. "Like candy" my foot! I hate it when that happens.

The times I play "above my level" - you know, team facing all purple-con foes, a team wipe or two each mission, slow going due to really serious fights - I fall back on the Insps like mad and then they never drop again for the rest of the mission. Or the next one.

And yellows always make you miss!

For me, the end of winter event means YAY! Now I can get back to the salt-mines of AE and try and finish up my latest arc without "being lazy" and soloing Snappy with my Bots/Dark one more time instead (so close to 50!)...
  13. On my first day inside the winter event I got to do the Winter Lord big-snow-men thingy with my Elec/Mace tank and found I had forgotten how dull I found it last time. We failed due to not enough fire power so we broke up and reformed with other toons (Bots/Dark MM for me) and wiped him up pretty quick. Unless I missed something, it's a pretty simplistic game of "drop the big guy 25%, go fight the other lesser bug guy, then come back to the first one, drop him another 25%, fight another lesser big guy, go back, etc. Not much fun, not a really great map or anything... I guess if you're a badger it's good for that. Having done it once more, I don't worry about the difficulty others had getting onto a team for it.

Afterwards I ran my toon from that one into the Lady Winter (man I hope I'm getting these names right) and found I could solo her and did so. Her mission is alright I guess, lots of snow monsters to beat up. Then I ran BNY and found out I got better XP so I soloed that one a bunch. It helps that I find that one of the most all-round fun maps in the game.

I also bought the winter pack as I'm a sucker for costume-stuffs and would hate to get caught short with a great needs-a-halo costume toon idea in July...

Oops! Forgive the double-post, but I forgot this gem from my GF (don't tell her I forgot it!):

Still trying to figure out why Totoro is hospital green, maybe he's been dabbling in superadine recently?

(Also don't tell her it's thicker than any wallet I'd ever buy for myself, so it might not see much use... but the thought is golden)

I got the Criterion collection's set for the old movie Vampyr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampyr), which is an awesome film. Ok, so it's more "arthouse" than "geek", but it has vampires in it, so that counts, right?

Seconded. I'll agree it felt a bit slight and that coming after the previous one (which I just rewatched too*) it felt really slight. But it was all just for fun in the first place and it hit that spot dead-on.

The end with Amy and Rory also added a nice layer of characterization for the Doctor. I think a lot of people kind if miss/don't fully grasp that part somehow - they were hoping for more overall flashyness or something; by the time that scene rolls round, they're already sort of sunk into "meh" mode.

*It's late to say so, but the more I see last year's, the more I love it. Mark my words, as time goes by, it's going to loom larger and larger as a Christmas high point.
  19. If you wanted to check out something NOT from America, you might look at Koi... Mil Gaya (2003) and the sequel Krrish (2006). Both films are Bollywood projects in Hindi and kind of long.

You'd be watching the first one to set up the sequel for you - if you do watch it, do NOT give up on the series because of the first film! (I almost did, but my GF liked it well enough, so off we went to the next one) It's a semi-cheap ET semi-knock-off and rather typical Bollywood - heavy on the romance, some sap, a number of song and dance numbers, etc... if you just skipped it and read the wikipedia entry before watching the second I wouldn't blame you, really, but if you're being a completest...

The second one is much more in the "American superhero movie" tradition: effects that don't look like they came from a film two decades ago and a cheap one at that, more ACTION!, a real villain, a secret identity, less comedy/silliness and a seriously ripped guy playing the part; he's also a real handsome guy despite the weird thumb he was born with and has a modicum of acting talent, so your wife might enjoy this one for the eye-candy, my GF sure did. The downsides would be it still has some silliness to it, but not so much, and the sap is still present but not at such high levels. There are also still a few (iirc) song and dance bits you could probably skip through.

Just thought of this after checking this thread earlier, YMMV.
  20. I hated bad movies before it was popular.

(And I still do, but at the same time I just sit back, let them roll on and enjoy what few elements I can find in them: case in point, the first Sherlock Homes film. Pretty bleah, too frenetically actiony, but Robert Downey Jr. is always a fun screen presence.)

(I did this probably a dozen times myself during my first two months or so...)
Did that too, but only once that I recall.

My other was: my first toon to really take off so fast I had to hold on tight was a Kat/Regen scrapper. I think I was around 40 or so when I teamed with some guys and we ran into the Clockwork King, which was probably my first Real AV meeting. So, thinking like a scrapper, I thought sure he cons purple but hey how bad can he really be? I have regen powers afterall and charged in before everyone arrived. That was a pretty embarrassing fail, in front of a whole team to boot.
