Yeah but at least if the Daleks were invading Germany it'd be reasonable to expect that they would switch to speaking German. The idea of Captain America speaking German is about as weird as Joe McCarthy speaking Russian.

Even if he knew modern English he'd likely speak it with a heavy accent the way a non-native speaker would. As for Trek, I do find the universal translator much harder to accept... But since I do not want to watch a show about how difficult it is to learn new languages, I'm willing to give it a pass.

In my head...the comic book version Thor just spoke with a lot of "Ho! Thou! and Art! type connotations.
As far as Star Trek/Star Wars...was always more focused on whether a female alien had 3 boobs like in Total Recall versus accents and speech patterns.
Im obviously an example of why our civilization is too immature to make contact with aliens.

On the subject of the Translators, one of the episodes of Deep Space 9 showed that the translator does not always work and has to 'learn' a new language first.
On the subject of Avengers a toy company may have made a spoiler...

Just found a Link to a Russian version of the Avengers Trailer. Looks like some different scenes that what we've seen already.
