I have a 50 Bots/FF/Mu incarnate. With the buff changes, it went from boring to interesting, since I spend a lot more time attacking.
It is a great combo, in my opinion. You essentially have one of the toughest builds in the game (My Big Bot and Lil Bots are 60 Defense, while myself and the Defense Bots are ~49% defense; on top of it I have strong resists vs. S/L and energy). You have moderate/decent single-target and very strong AoE. Yes, you will need to leverage burn, but its not the be all and end all. I supplement my AoE with my repulsion bomb and Mu AoE attack, plus IO procs on the bots, plus Musculature alpha, my Judgement AoE, etc.
Yes, it is is not the build for soloing AVs and GMs. However, it is the build for utter, complete carnage across the battlefield, and large heaps of the dead lying at your feet as you survive unscathed, laughing at lesser creatures. -
Quote:Great question - started off in beta with Dark/Dark scrapper, first 50 was ice/ice tanker, but these days I prefer Corruptors, Masterminds and Controllers.Given the incredibly wide range of AT and powerset combinations we have in CoH (it's at what... 600+ now?) I'm curious about what you started off with, and whether your preferences have changed since?
The first character I ever created was a Claws/WP Scrapper - not a Wolverine clone, honest - with a red and black costume and the name Razerz (very 90s Dark Age anti-heroic, I suppose) I didn't stick with her very long, and scrappers are... okay, but by no means my favourite AT. I still like Claws/ though. Finally deleted a few weeks ago, when I was reorganising my character list.
So what was the first character you ever made in CoH, and do you still play them?
(The inspiration for this thread was me musing about the number of brand new no-vet badge players I see running Dominators, which strike me as the most newbie-unfriendly AT of them all, given how relatively complex they are to play.) -
Quote:Hey Kaoz! How you been, nice to see you backAs Phoenix Factor. I'm making an atempt to restart one of the greatest SG ever. Both old and new members are welcome. A SG for those that want to kick back and have fun.
(This is Night Fist)
I keep missing folks, but it'd be nice to see the old crew come back to CoH. Cap Omega was the last person I saw (well, also Big George) since the breakup of -Corporation- and The Eternals following the blow-out with Prime.
Prime days were good days. I'm no longer playing on Justice due to late night low population when I play, but I'm on Virtue. Good luck with the new SG, and you can always catch me on my global (@chill out). -
Quote:well, that Baron gets my vote.Baron Judas Quisling Von Backstab (or just "Baron Backstab" for short) is an extremely trustworthy hero. Some people short-sightedly doubt his trustworthiness because of his unusual name, or because he's a seven foot tall hulking brute of a necromancer encased in midnight-black plate mail, who commands his undead forces while shrouded by an eternal cloak of darkness pierced only by the uncanny light of his blood-red eyes glowing behind the visor of his giant horned evil-overlord style helmet. However, his trustworthiness is conclusively proven by the fact that he has the "trustworthy" badge title. How can you argue with a badge title? In conclusion, trustworthy. I hope that's settled any confusion anyone may have on this matter.
Baron Backstab is currently training in the Rogue islands, only to get access to patron power pools I assure you, but as soon as he is finished with that unpleasant task he intends to move to Paragon city and join a heroic supergroup where he so obviously belongs, to enjoy the company of his fellow trustworthy heroes of similarly unquestionable sterling character, who he does NOT intent to villainously undermine and betray at every possible opportunity while maintaining an absurdly paper-thin pretense of goodness. Where do people come up with these hurtful and uncharitable accusations? Do I have to remind you of the badge title? TRUSTWORTHY! -
Want to hear my theory? The same sadist who designed Perez Park, Hollows and put mezzing Vahzilok in the AP Sewers also designed the buff rotation FF and Thermal sets. :P

Quote:Dark isn't the best because of an area of effect heal. yes, the heal is massive, but the area effect part is pretty marginal (10') compared to the corruptor/defender version. Unless you are right up with your pets in melee, you are not likely to rely on healing them all, you'll have to be selective. My necro fares better in this regard than my bots.dark IMO is the best MM secondary due to the area heal. being poison i feel silly pitching softballs to my ninja to heal them.
i would like to see some tweaks to the other MM secondary lines as well
Dark's strength isn't the aoe heal, its the debuffs in HT, Dark Pit, DN and FS (and TG to a lesser extent).
Overall, I would recommend Dark or Pain. Dark is proactive. Pain is reactive.
I'm currently leveling a DS/Pain and it has literally (forgive the pun), "painless". As smooth as /Dark. You can get roughly the same resists as Thermal (but vs. all damage types), and you get group scrapper-level regeneration as opposed to another debuff (in Thermal). You can Painbringer (make virtually indestructible) one toon (ahem, Prince), versus Thermal, where you can spread out the love a bit with Forge.
One thing Pain doesn't have compared to Thermal is -Regen, so if you are AV hunting, consider Thermal. But really, IMO, if you are AV hunting, you are best off with Traps or Dark for reasons you can find all over these forums
Have fun, hard to go wrong, just find the secondary that suits your playstyle. Like others, I find applying buffs every 4 min a bit tedious. I prefer Pain's AoE buffage/debuffage better. Thermal does get style points, though. -
Quote:I can only imagine you've never really had experience with corruptors. They are among the best solers in the game, assuming you do not take secondaries that rely on teams to be at their best, like /Pain. They were designed to 'pwn' as well as support, so please roll back the preconceptions of corrs as weak, mushy support priests.
As for solo pwnmobiles... I don't know if corruptors can make good pwnmobiles. We have support as secondaries, not personal defence; we are the main villain support AT, with only MMs as competition. We might never be up to par with certain other ATs as solo chars. We aren't designed for it in the same way. On the other hand, we provide things no pwnmobile could ever dream of in a team environment.
Here's a partial list of combos that solo well, some virtually breaking the game:
Sonic/Rad
Sonic/Dark
Ice/Dark
Fire/Dark
Fire/Traps
Sonic/Traps
Ice/Traps
Dark/Rad
Dark/Cold
Fire/Storm
Dark/Storm
And that's just a partial list. There are Archery Combos and a whole bunch of others I haven't mentioned.
If you go Pain, Thermal, Sonic, Trick Arrow, yeah.. you're gonna solo worse. But don't paint the whole AT with a broad brush, check out the other combos, you'll be pleasantly surprised. -
Quote:They get life drain at 32. Depending on your secondary I may not bother, especially with the Zombies, who have small health pools anyhow.Lazy, lazy masterminds want to keep all of the good info to themselves it seems.
OK, the last time I played coh (if I recall correctly) masterminds could not be /thermal or /pain. Nor were there any Demons... I think "Thugs" had just been released. If this were a dynamic forum with lots of interested people I'd think we would be able to find a few secondaries guides. Currently there are secondaries guides for *only* /pain, /trick arrow and /poison. There are no secondaries guides for /dark, /thermal, /traps, /FF or /storm. Just saying. Also, only a really really lazy forum would collectively reply: "just go to the Defender/Corruptor forum" because those AT work totally differently and have different *needs* for powers than MM do.
Specific Questions:
I just made a necro: why can I slot heals in my zombies? What does that do and would I want to?
Also - how is it that other pets can reach their targets but the zombies are apt to run around in circles constantly when I tell them to attack and can't seem to path very well? What's up with that?
I dunno why your zombies are giving you problems, mine path a bee line to whatever I tell them to and destroy, destroy, destroy. Try using Gotos? Also, be aware some geometry makes pets go insane (fences, for example), so melee pets who have to traverse it may hang up, so use Gotos and planning to avoid. -
Please retitle this thread to: "I am ignorant about Dark Miasma"
All by itself, a properly slotted Dark Servant with its Chill of the NIght debuff drops To Hit by -45% in melee. Forget whatever else DS does, you just created a pure zone of safety and love. My zombies love it.
As stated, Howling Twilight is an amazing opener or 'oh shiz' button for neutering a spawn. I
Fearsome stare has awesome -To Hit as well, and the fear/tremble effect also reduces damage as mobs cower.
PG is great for taking out troublesome Lts, like Sappers.
You also forgot Shadowfall, with its additional resistances and stealth. You should have taken the whole set into account, not just cherry picked to skew your argument.
I'm not saying Thermal is worse or better. I'm observing though that your bias is showing, or you are incredibly ignorant about how DM works. Or both. Your OP started off drawing a line in the sand based on lack of knowledge, and it got worse from there. -
This thread makes me give up on humanity.
Reminds me of the threads arguing for 3-day spawn camps and perma-death in Vanguard.
For those who want "the challenge", just don't slot it up and run with just Brawl and no travel powers. There's your challenge. -
I'm rolling Gravity when I get home now. Thanks for posting

For the love of your own sanity, unless you like buffing your pets and possibly your teammates every 4 minutes, avoid FF or Thermal. I say this as a 50 Robot/FF MM.
But between the two, if you have to choose, go Thermal, it has more to offer except status protection (go FF if you want to tankermind).
Otherwise my first reccommendation would be Dark or perhaps Pain. I hear Storm is good, but depends on how well you manage KB on teams. -
Quote:I commend your self-restraint and lack of drama. Well done. Not a chance. I bought everything else you people have tried to sell me but, I draw the line here. This "Emote Pack" is garbage and I want nothing to do with it. Further, I am now looking for another game to enjoy spending my time on, this one seems to be going down a road I am not willing to pay for.
Seriously, no one is forcing you to by it. Its overpriced in my estimation too, but I'm not playing chicken little either. You know. The sky ain't falling. -

There are some older posts about it, if you run the search.
I have a 50 Ill/TA with standard level 35 IOs, no real set bonuses. It is a powerful combo, both solo and in groups. I found it to be fairly steady in terms of power and leveling; you are good early on pre-20, and it only gets better with PA and Phantom.
Key Powers:
Blind - your ST hold
Deceive - your ST confuse
Spectral Wounds - your ST damage
Terror - cone fear
Phantom Army - temporary invulnerable tanking/damage pets
Phantaasm - summoned damage pet
Superior Invis - great aggro control and best stealth in game, does not suspend in combat
Entangle Arrow - useful, for the -recharge as well as quick immob
Ice Arrow - i love it for the extra hold, some hate it
Acid Arrow - debuff
Glue Arrow - -rech and -speed
Disruption Arrow - more debuffs
EMP Arrow - awesome aoe hold
Oil Slick Arrow - aoe soft control, massive debuffs, and superior damage if you light it on fire (energy/fire damage required, so grab tech or magic origin for the energy newbie attack)
I'm writing this quickly, so I may have left something out, but you should get the idea. Ilusion offers you controls, and some great pets. Arrows offers more hard controls (immob, another hold) plus wonderful debuffs. You won't be an AoE damage machine (outside of Oil Slick), but you can pretty much solo the toughest missions, as well as greatly help a team melt groups of enemies. Leave the heals to the Empaths -
I welcome Kruunch's return.

Quote:That running pose is a classic anime/japanimation running pose. Very suitable for ninja and swordsmen. From what I've seen of it, it looks pretty nifty...with one exception.
The "running crouched over with your arm in front of your face" part of it reminds me less of a ninja and more of daffy duck pretending to be a vampire.
Just a thought.
I'm still probably going to buy it. -
Quote:You emerged from lurking for 4-5 years to add this astute bit of wit?I can't make up my mind which I like better.
The worthless walk power (the devs really have that much time on their hands) or the never ending Halloween crap.
Either one the question remains, why?
Really, after all the win that was I16, you just had to find something to complain about?
Geez. -
Late to the party, but happy birthday Bobi, anyhow

For widows, the Sha Do hairstyle (among many others) clips with the collar. I can't imagine having more that clip would be an issue.

I'll agree there is no 'best', as I've run the ITF many times, with all sorts of team makeup, for fun, for speed, for Master of, with tanks, without tanks, all ranged, etc, and its the player who makes all the difference.
That said, some stuff is indeed handy. I find I contribute hugely with my Plant/Rad.
Plant offers a lot of AoE control (roots + creepers + seeds). In the Rommy fights I add spirit tree, helps keep the team topped off.
Rad offers nice AoE healing on top of Tree, the assorted magical debuffs, a nice team buff, and mutagen, as needed. On top of that I have Earth, so I have terrific ST damage to add, plus a huge hold to use on protecting annoying bosses who get too close to me or my buddies. Rock Armor in combo with RI helps keep me upright if I draw too much aggro for any reason. I can generally tank in this build, as needed. -
Grey Fox was awesome in MGS. And with the Vanguard helm, easily doable with the cyclops eye.

To be honest, IMO, with proper SO slotting, you can do fine with any of your choices, as long as you slot for endredux and use your toggles wisely.
The biggest culprits of blue woes in /Dark Armor is:
- Dark Regen. You absolutely must slot this for EndRedux.
- Death Shroud. Don't run it unless you have 2-3 or more targets. Turn it off when you only have one.
- Cloak of Fear. Just avoid it. the END is not worth the results. OP is much better for nullifying minions and barely touches your blue bar.
Now, with IOs you can mitigate some more of the end drain. You may find Phys. Perfection useful, and it is, but it is not necessary. Take the AT you will enjoy playing more, instead.
