Quote:You forgot to bump everything by one for Super Booster VI: Inherent Pack.Besides the occasional random-themes like wedding and valk, I imagine we'll eventually see this:
Super Booster VI: Tech Pack II
Super Booster VII: Magic Pack II
Super Booster VIII: Science Pack II
Et cetera! -
Quote:The great thing about this is that they can have people from around the office fill in. One person could theoretically supply all voices for one model just by shifting their own voice a bit. They could go further and get samples from different people around the office for more variation, but at least options for a few things like Young, Teen, Strong (current default voices), Weak/Old, and Enraged would go a long way towards matching most character concepts. Oh, and also Robotic (default voice + electronic reverb?) and Electronic (noise, not voice) for our manufactured friends.Although I liked that feature with Aion, it doesn't really seem to impact anything. I don't recall ever really hearing my character speak, and if she did, there was very little influence from the "style" of voice I picked.
Plus I don't know if voice actors are in the budget anymore. But it would be nice to have some options so my 8 foot Troll Brute doesn't sound like my 4' 5" petite French woman.
The only voice sounds I can think of off the top of my head are the ones for jumping (which you will likely hear at least once per minute during active gameplay) and the one shared by /emote tarzan and Regeneration's "Integration" power (I think). There are probably a few other instances I'm missing, but again, that's just what I can think of off the cuff. -
Selectable voices at the costume building screen. I have a hero who is effectively a physically-manifested inner child, and he sounds ridiculous every time he jumps.

How does one pronounce a parenthesis?
(Edit to include parentheses, and to say FPABABs!)

Welcome to the boards, Pathogenist!
I especially like your first idea of getting a better idea of how many people are currently logged in on each server. Though not necessarily an exact number, we really do need something other than the three green, yellow and red lights to let us know where everybody's hanging out.
I'd like to expand that idea further and, despite not being a PVPer, I'd like there to be a way to check an in-game board or character in each normal zone that tells us how many Heroes and Villains (separate number, optimally) are in each PVP zone at that moment. Hopefully, this couldn't be circumvented by players using /hide, because it's really annoying to think you're the only one in Warburg when a Stalker suddenly stabs you and takes your launch access codes.
I don't think I'd like that option to be available for non-PVP zones though. If you could log in and see that 90% of the Heroes are currently in Peregrine Island, why would you ever explore the other zones? -
"Subclassing." Once you hit level 50 with a character, you can pick a powerset that's not accessible by that AT and level it separately with "sub-levels" that go up to level 20. Some further points/ideas:
1) New powers are unlocked at sub-levels 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20. They correspond to Tier 1 and 2, Tier 3 and 4, Tier 5 and 6, Tier 7 and 8, and Tier 9 for availability.
2) Any non-power sub-level would give you ONE enhancement slot. (This means your level 20 subclass power would only have a single slot.) The enhancement slots could be used on ANY existing power, from your original powersets/pools or your subclass set.
3) Respeccing would automatically drop you back to sub-level 1, whether you changed your subclass powerset or not. You WOULD be able to have different subclass powersets on each of your character's builds, though.
4) Subclass powers would only be no greater than 75% as effective as they would for the AT best known for them*. Blast sets would do 75% or less of the damage that Blasters do, defense sets would offer 75% or less of the Defense or Resistance of Tankers, control sets would mez for 75% of the time a Controller would mez, etc.
5) Subclass powers would generally cost more endurance and recharge slower than the ATs that can earn those powers naturally. Subclass powers would NOT gain any other AT's inherent powers (Critical Hits, Defiance, etc.), and probably shouldn't even be affected by your original AT's inherent power.
6) Subclass powers would not be available when exemped below level 45, or in situations where they might unbalance gameplay (Master run TF/SFs or zone PVP, for example).
This would offer a greater variety of end-game playability for virtually everyone. It could lead to some overpowered combinations, such as a Stone Tank subclassed as an Empathy healer... but that mostly stems from the fact that certain powers for existing ATs (like Granite for Stone Tanks) are kind of overpowered to begin with.
Ideally, this would be unlocked by completing a brutally hard trial or event, akin to what the Cathedral of Pain was supposed to be. You'd hit level 20 in your subclass in about the same amount of time it takes a new character to reach level 40.
* (The actual percentage would be balanced based on your character's AT--Tankers would have a lower damage percentage when picking up a Blast due to their naturally low damage output, and Blasters would get less out of a defense set than, say, a buff/debuff or control set.) -
I just installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit this weekend.
It's... difficult... for me to say this, but... I actually like it better than Win XP. -

I had to petition both my 63 and 66 month badges.

Quote:And I agree that this is probably the best way to handle the issue. (But that's just based on my opinion and way of thinking and is in no way an indication of any plans made by the developers.Sometimes, you lose access to EATs. The solution is to log in an existing level 50 to reacquire them. I suspect that unlocking HEATs will be tied to ATs that are "supposed to be" heroes, and VEATs to those that "should be" villains, regardless of morality. Otherwise, you could just have your 50 switch sides, and have both unlocked.

I just sold off everything that dropped and I didn't want for 1 inf--common and rare salvage and common and crappy recipes.
In fact, I still do.
It did go a lot faster when we earned base salvage as well, but it's still not that difficult to earn over a few months. As other people have mentioned, you can always buy up stacks of invention salvage cheaply and then turn around and put it all back on the market at a loss. -
Quote:It got added in Wednesdays Test Server patch. It hasn't made it to live yet.hmm i looked at the live patch notes and logged into live and none of my toons have the option to walk. I've searched but nothing in the powers list that is dragable to the tray either.
Given the normal time frame on test-to-live patching, you can probably expect it to hit the live servers early to mid next week. -
Quote:Except that, again, Positron has already stated that once you hit level 20, you are expected to choose to become either a Hero or a Villain. There will (probably) be higher-end content as well, but you can't stay a Praetorian through it. Since you can't have a level 50 Praetorian, there's absolutely no reason to have an EAT unlocked simply because your character started in Praetoria. If anyone who starts in the Praetorian start areas does not unlock either the HEATs or VEATs when they get to 50 (it does not matter how, it could be based on if they choose Hero or Villain, or which side their AT originally came from) then for parity they should have an EAT to unlock at 50.
Quote:If Heroes or Villains who begin the side switching process can no longer unlock HEATs or VEATs when they get to 50, then for parity they should have an EAT to unlock at 50. Mind you, if they can unlock HEATs or VEATs once they complete the switch to Villain or Hero or back again, that's another issue, I'm talking about if they lose the ability to unlock EATs forever. (And note that we are talking about the possibility of side switching characters unlocking BOTH EATs, something that the devs may not wish to allow)
Quote:If any new EAT is introduced that can be unlocked prior to 50, then if only Praetorians can unlock that EAT, for parity, Heroes and Villains should have an EAT unlocked in the same way.
Quote:If any new EAT is introduced that can be unocked prior to 50, and only those who become Vigilantes or Rogues can unlock it, then for parity those who choose never to side switch should have an EAT unlocked in the same way.
Quote:Now, if new EATs are introduced that ANYONE can unlock, and Praetorians can somehow unlock the existing HEATs and VEATs, then that's fine. -
Quote:I recall reading ages ago (I BELIEVE in a post from Positron, before Issue 12 was released and brought us VEATs) that any future epics would be unlocked through specific content, such as a particularly difficult taskforce or trial.Perhaps you would prefer to take a different approach. Why don't you describe a potential means of unlocking an EAT, and then explain why it would be accepted that it does not have parity to the existing EATs?
The VEATs were unlocked by reaching level 50 specifically to keep the "DEBZ H8 VILINZ!!1" crowd from causing an uproar.
Anyway, since current information seems to imply that you can't keep a straight Praetorian character much beyond level 20 before you have to pick a side, it's highly unlikely that you'll ever be able to get a level 50 Praetorian to unlock an epic class.
I would assume that any Hero AT (turned Vigilante, Villain or Rogue) will probably still just unlock Kheldians and any Villain AT (turned Rogue, Hero or Vigilante) will probably still just unlock the Soldiers of Arachnos. But again, that's just an assumption. In any case, I sincerely doubt that a level 50 Vigilante or Rogue would unlock both epic ATs--just one or the other depending on either your starting class or the side to which you lean strongest. -
Oddly enough, I was already shouting, "It's naked time! BING!" (Dana Carvey reference) whenever I switched to the BP Shaman costume, and didn't even think about the possibility of water transparency.

Quote:Performance art, man.It took us 436 posts and that maddening "open mic at the coffee shop" what-is-art-man beatnik rap just to get to this? I feel like I should be waving away clove cigarette smoke and wishing it was legal to beat art students about the head and shoulders with folding chairs.
They do stuff like that in WWE all the ti--WHUD!

Yep. Porn = art. It's a creative display recorded on a medium for others to enjoy (or not enjoy) according to their tastes.
You can't say stuff isn't art just because some people don't like it. A gilded turd in an art museum: I think it's gross and ridiculous, but obviously somebody thinks it's art. Someone would likely argue that the golden shell represents the face that civilization displays in public, and the fecal matter on the inside is the contempt we feel for everyone else. I'd argue that the artist needed a piece for the following day, had some gold spray paint and too many bran muffins, and was likely on drugs.
In any case, I suppose I can't disagree that that's a creative way to deal with excrement... -
Quote:I dabble in sketching from time to time. I like drawing anime-style superheroes. I'm not a professional artist, but I'm not awful either. The only message I convey is that I think it's pretty cool when a superhero punches a bad guy, monster, or evil alien really really hard.Well see, the difference is that in a song, or a painting or a movie, art is used to convey a message of some kind; often personal, sometimes politcial, but always very important. At least to the person who made it.
Quote:If you think this game is art, I'd like to know why you think so. No trite or sarcastic responses, pretty please. I'm quite serious. Why do you think it is? My mind is certainly open to the possibility.
There's an old and often tossed-around saying: "I don't know what art is, but I like it." You don't have to know what art is if you enjoy something, Coyote.
Whether it's a Van Gogh painting, Michelangelo sculpture, or some random five-year-old kindergartener fingerpainting a picture of his mommy, if someone takes time to render a creative image in any medium, it's art.
A team of 40+ people working thousands of hours to release a video game full of music, background images, stories and characters? You're right, that's not art. That's art*4 by my count. -
Quote:BABs also didn't say no to this. He said no to "all swimmy, all the time zones/missions" and gave very solid reasons as to why they won't ever be doing anything of the sort. I wish everyone would drop the, "But it'd be easy if you did (blank) (aka, half-*** it)," or the "You guys are just scared of a challenge" bull, but meh, this is the internet.I hate the idea of an underwater zone, but I LOVE this idea. Having a window that shows an underwater scene, or a space scene, or the shadow shard would allow missions to use normal maps yet be set in underwater or outer space bases. Ideally they'd make those same windows available to base builders for ambiance.
But a domed city or undersea lab with portholes showing the ambient ocean outside would be pretty awesome. Also, as far as I know, that's WarWitch's department, so BABs can't specifically crush anybody's dreams on that one. -
My name is Chad, and I approve of this Dev's Choice.

Look at the bright side, Deej: if you keep crying like that, eventually you'll have your very own water zone. Hope you find your own tears as delicious as the big bad ebil devs do.
Quote:It's not that it's "too hard" for them to do. It's that the payout isn't big enough for the work involved. Just like when we play the game, the devs work on risk vs. reward. This is the equivalent of a level 10 pure Emp defender trying to solo a mob in PI; sure, the payoff might be big at the end, but you're going to spend a lot more time and energy doing that when there are many, many better ways to earn experience. In the past, I've taken challenges that were deemed impossible to do; I've overcome some incredible adversity in my life to get where I am now; I have (to quote good 'ole Clint Eastwood) "Overcome, adapted and improvised" on many critical tasks set before me. The CoH/CoV Devs have also met many challenges set before them and triumphed. I am quite surprised that the "Freem Team" is letting 'water' stop them.
(And Aquaman really is lame. Puppies kick him when they've had a rough day.) -
Awwww, Aquaman's got "Little Man" Syndrome. He thinks he's one of the big dogs, it's so cute! There there, Fishpants, I'm sure your cephalopod psychiatrist wants to hear aaaall about it...
P.S. It looks like he's trying to make Supes smell his blue finger... -
Quote:Just to throw my two cents into the hat, I always thought they'd end up forcing an alternate build when you switch sides, so you can't carry over any enhancements at all (except possibly what's in your inventory).given their philosophical opposition to an open market, skepticism is entirely warranted absent some kind of concrete statement that they've realized the error of their philosophy and are dedicated to a merger.
Even if they let you take over whatever your slots will bear when you finally 'switch over', I doubt the process will be so casual that ferrying junk from one side to the other will be an efficient use of time.
They may not allow us to take anything at all- who knows.
We don't have enough info yet to determine if there's any change in their historical anti-market position, but what we do have doesn't look good.
So you'd have your crazy purpled-out Hero build, then you'd switch sides and have empty enhancement slots... but switching back again would give you back all your original enhancements.
Not sure how that'd work with the whole Vigilante/Rogue thing though, where you can still access your original side's market... *shrug*
