The MM epics are just a mess.
1) 2 sets include a shield and the other 2 don't O.o???
2) Why in the world do we need moderate dmg ST attacks???? We get 2 from our primary. They should have been ST high dmg attacks (Blaze, BIB ect).
3) EM Pulse will be a clone when MM get /rad (kinda).
I really worry that they will go live and the cottage rule will stop the Devs from dropping powers and replacing them.
My recommendation:
For Chill Mastery drop ice blast and replace with ice storm or frost breath.
For Charge Mastery drop EM Pulse and replace with charged armor.
For Heat Mastery drop fire blast and replace with fire armor.
And for Field Mastery drop power blast and replace with power boost. -
A parking meter that drops change when you hit enemies with it!!!

Quote:I don't buy this. A /therm will get mezzed more than a /dark because the -to hit will lower the chance of getting hit and a mezzed /therm can't heal so the pets will die just as fast, not to mention that even if mezzed your enemies can still have the -to hit from fearsome stare on them and whatever control you got out there. The only problem I have with dark is that in bodyguard mode, you're going to get hit with mez effects. When that happens, darkest night goes bye bye and so do you and your pets. In the early game this isn't an issue, later on it's annoying. Also, thermal has decent av debuffing too, but is a small concern since many people don't solo avs anyway.
I personally like darks control and debuffs, but as a mastermind, getting mezzed will get your pets killed fast since they like to congregate in melee. Thermal gives the demons an independant feel, which I feel is more appropriate for their playstyle compared to bots or thugs.
I have played 3 /dark MMs to 50 and Mezz was less of an issue when compared to my /therms. -
My vote is don't slot a full set in any of the pets. The set bonuses are pretty useless for a MM and the set is light on end redux, while demons are very end heavy. I would slot the pieces with rech components in Hell on Earth and the proc in the T3, while finishing off Hell on Earth with the pet auras.
-
I have run both to 50 and /dark is more powerful and survivable than /thermal. AoE -dam, to hit debuffs, and control are far better than the +resists and more reliable heals therm has to offer. Melt armor is weaker -res than tar patch and can't be stacked from the same source like tar patch. Against AVs, /dark has more -dmg, -res and -regen if you consider all of the sources available (TG, HT, and the servants heal).
Due to MM pets low health, getting hit less is more effective than +res. -
You have to finish all the arcs your patron has available including defeating Lord Recluse.
-
Damage enhancements only affect the damage demons do, and they do it as Type A enhancements (33.3%) not Type B (20%) like the screen shows (per SO). You need to slot resistance enhancers to boost the Ember shield.

Quote:I always think that supremacy effects all pets because the pet auras do, but Zombie Man is absolutely right. My bad for mis-informingCorrect that the DS's Acc is not 2.00. It is 1.00.
Incorrect that the DS gets Acc/ToHit bonus from Supremacy. Supremacy only affects henchman, not traditional pets.
Correct that procs only go off when the power used by the pet could be slotted with it. Since every power the DS has a -ToHit component, then Clouded Sense's proc has a chance to go off with every attack the DS makes. Well worth it. A Heal proc would only go off when the DS heals. -
I always found that the servant never heals when I need it, so I never bother with heal, but I found the proc to be very useful and turn him into a little bit of a damage dealer. The demons add some useful healing as well, so I think heals are even less important in the servant with demons as a primary.
It's really 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of another.
Try it either way and see what ya think. -
Global rech and the purple pieces with a rech aspect only affect the recharge of the summon.
Another important thing to note is that End reducers will lower the casting cost of the summon and the end cost of the pet's abilities. -
the 2.00 acc is the acc of the summoning the pet not the pets abilities themselves (a lot of the "drop" powers show this like Rain of fire).
On to slotting, There are many options for the servant my favorite is to hit the enhancements that can hit several of his abilities at a time. 3 of his 5 powers require to hit checks (twilight grasp, pet gaze, and teneb tentacles) so Acc is important, he gets the supremacy bonus from the MM so usually around 40% is plenty. All of his powers except his hold has a -to hit component so that is another important one. Recharge is important for the MM version since it's not perma like the fender/corr version (3 SOs will make him near perma, but hasten and set bonuses will get you get away with less). I havent found much use in slotting him for heal since he's not a very reliable healer, I just consider his heal extra and don't count on it.
I have always ended up Frankenslotting my servants with pieces from the to hit debuff and accurate to hit debuff sets, focusing on rech, to hit debuff, and acc. If you can afford it I would also put the Cloud senses' proc in him, since it can proc from all his abilites except the hold. -
I would pick DS/Poison not because I think /poison is stronger than /dark, but because Demons is IMO the best set to deal with poison's weak points. The pets have the survivabilty needed to keep themselves alive allowing you the freedom to debuff away, they have the melee pets needed to utilize noxious gas effectively and they can even help keep you alive with heals and shields.
DS/Dark is great, but it also looks to be FoTM, so go with something a little less seen and bring something different to the team. -
Quote:Putting end redux in the power DOES lowers the end cost of the pets powers as well. It's been proven time and time again. The Ember demon and Prince are fairly end intensive, but I after frankenslotting for end redux the 2nd tiers were better though not great, and the Demon Prince was fine. This is the price they pay for being so good. The pets are tough, have good ST and AoE dmg and heals....... I'm fine with them being end intensive.Putting end redux in this power merely reduces the original summoning cost. Not seeing any difference in pet end consumption. It and Frost Prince are still going through all endurance in less than 5 enemies at a time.
Furthermore, how can you "do something wrong" with a MM that would affect pet end consumption? The problem is simple, the fix is as simple; Lower the spell end costs of the Ember Demon and Demon Princes spells. Very easy.
While your at it, though. Please put pets that don't have melee attacks back on some kind of ranged AI or maybe even give WE PLAYERS a check mark to decide Ranged, Melee, or Both for each pet type, Minion, LT, and Boss. THAT would really help a ton! -
Quote:I played thermal with thugs to 33, bots to 42, necro to 22 and ninja to 32. Recently I tried Demons and that build is holding at about 22. The reason it is holding is due to a problem with the resistance defense. Even capped at 90% resistance I still take massive damage (hard to keep healed).
Anyway I have also played Pain with Ninjas to 32. Pain was a lot of healing and the Suppress Pain power is worthless on a mm due to the low hit points of your pets. Painbringer comes too late at 38 and has a long recharge time (2 minutes with two recharge reductions in it). With the 90 second duration you can have your one pet buffed only 75% of the time.
On thermal Forge is available at level 28. With 2 recharge reductions in it, the recharge is only 30 seconds. Since it has a two minute duration you can buff all three of your top pets on a constant basis. With Assault from the Leadership pool and Forge your top pets stay at 66.25% damage bonus!
The heals on pain are higher than thermal, but then you need it that high as you won't have the shields to reduce the damage amount.
You may not like the shields, but they can turn a team being wiped to a winning team.
At level 35 on my bots/thermal I started soloing AV's and heroes. You can't solo them with pain.
Just a few misconceptions you have about /pain vs. /therm. Pain does have damage resistance from world of pain and the numbers are only slightly lower than therm and they are to ALL dmg. (better cold, psi, toxic numbers). Not to mention the resists also affect you as well (which therm doesn't do). the ST and AoE heals from both sets have the same stats. Pain does have the additional heal, but has some terrible side effects.
World of pain also has a damage buff that can be perma on all the pets at once for a total of 72% additional dmg and painbringer (which can be perma with 3 rech and hasten) for an additional 37% +dmg.
In terms of +res, +dmg, -res, therm and pain are pretty close to each other, but pain has the additional heal and +regen while therm has Heat Exhaustion (which is great for AV fights). I've played both sets to 50 and feel they are comparable to one another. -
Quote:In Beta this was a stat only bug. the shields don't actually get the +res bonus. It shows it does on the enhancement screen, but when you look at the demon's attributes they get the base number (unless you had actual resist enhancements in it). That bugs been around for a long time and works when you slot Range/Dam HO's into something like Thermal shields. IIRC it would require a lot of work to fix and isn't a priority. Slot at your own discretion, just don't be shocked when it does eventually get fixed.

The BS wielding warriors have [parry] so they would have had a hard time hitting those after it goes off.
-
The one problem I have with "Dark" armor is that it's highest resist is Psi instead of Negative?? All the other elemental armors can cap against their element (fire, elec, ice), but for some reason dark can't??? O.o
-
My problem with slotting typed instead of positional defense is positional is more expensive to slot with much worse non defense bonuses. ToD, Mako's, Dervish, Oblits, all have better bonuses to go along with the +def. I don't think typed is that much better to miss out on other bonuses.
Kinetic Combat sets of 4 are hard to come by (especially redside). If I already have positional (ice armor, inv, willpower) I will build for it, but at a no base defense I would go positional. -
Quote:The damage cap for both versions are the same. The scrapper version has a higher base damage so at the cap the scrapper version will do more dmg.The cap for damage for these pets is substantially lower for brutes than it is for scrappers. Nihili already summed up my thoughts on which combo you should roll. Besides, SS isn't for scrappers just yet, so make a monster brute and start slaying!
I don't know why everyone is saying to roll a scrapper. The OP didnt ask if he should roll a scrapper or a brute he asked to decide between different brutes. SS/SD is a very end intensive build and will have problems with just IOs, but with enough recharge and epic AoE will be an AoE monster. -
Both pets are pretty useful at dealing damage and your leadership toggles will make them even better. I would also recommend sneaking a coulple of the pet auras in them to make them even tougher.

Let's see:
2-22 on my plant/kin
9-22 on my cold/ice
10-21 on my mind/rad
9-22 on my fire/kin
10-23 on my dark/psi
34-42 on my TA/Arch
and 24-33 on my bots/TA
for a total of 87 levels...... wow that seems like a lot!!! -
If someone won't team with you because you're a specific AT or build, you don't want to team with them anyway. I guarantee their problems don't just end with MMs on the team. They prolly won't start a mish without a "healer", won't let anyone use confuse powers because they steal xp, and won't fight a room of enemies unless they are "herded".
Don't you understand that this game is impossible unless you follow a very specific formula of tactics, ATs, and builds?? *insert sarcasm*
If you play with good players they won't care what you bring, because they will know enough about this game to make it work. -
I think ranged is one of the easiest to cover. 6 pieces of Mako's, 2 pieces of BotZ, A full set of Thunderstrike, A full set of red fortune. None of those are that hard to come by, when compared to full sets of oblits and ToD to get melee def.
