Quote:I've got a Fire/Kin/Fire that is very similar, multiple mobs spend most of their time immob'd, stunned and blind. So much to the point that it's like a turkey shoot with a Fulcrum Shifted Fireball. Sure, once in a blue moon when I'm not paying attention I get pile-driven by an errant boss wandering about, but for the most part, with def scores that don't go over 10% tops I go and do pretty much whatever everyone else can.My Dark/Dark/Soul basically ignores DEF, even at level 50...between Shadow Fall, Dark Embrace, and you know, being a Controller, I don't really worry about it too much.
If you're doing it right, you do't need capped defenses, to echo many above. -
Quote:I thought about putting the Proc in there, but hadn't. I've only 3 slotted it for now, focusing on the Acc and Heals from the ToE set. Since I'm running a WB/Cold 'ruptor I want the heals for the times the baddies get past my defense. You're better off with end reduction than a theft proc in a single target attack.
After that, I'd tell you to slot it like a healing attack. With frankenslotting, you can cap most of the power's attributes.
But, like I said, I'm mostly curious to see what everyone else is doing with it, mainly cos I can see some pretty handy uses for it (wb/psy blaster = dehydrate/Siphon...mmm awesome)

Quote:My gods man... that's some fast levelin' ...haha nice names...
I level shifted my water/kin yesterday afternoon, and he really has been a ton of fun. I'm liking the cone more than I thought I would.
I'm still up in the air about what I want to pair with it. I've decided not to do time, and hold off on repeating that set. Dark and Cold however are not completely off the table now. Kins just spoil and confuse me for when I want to use a set again -
Quote:All very true, I can't deny a bit of it. But I likz mah shiney XPeez. Seriously though, I do see where your coming from. While I was leveling my Mind/Psi, I seemed to end up solo quiet a bit, and that's where the tendency to gravitate to sleeps/fears came from. I could move at my own pace and not worry about how much damage I was doing and If I could reasonably output enough damage to get the 'majority' of the experience from a mob. Now, once I got the hang of the character I could completely mow down mobs without fear of seeing an overall drop in XP... the habit of gravitating toward layered control with confuse being the last 'layer' had already been formed, for better or worse.Do keep in mind that you only have to do a small portion of the overall damage to earn the vast majority of the XP that would have been awarded for defeating those foes.
It is a per defeat XP loss, however the increased kill speed more than makes up for it, netting an increase in XP over time.
As The_Cheeseman said:
Quote:See, that's the sort of playstyle difference that really makes the variation in sets available so valuable.

Title says it all. What do you consider the best use/slotting for Dehydrate? Attack or Self-Heal. I'm curious to see what everyone does with it. I've put a Theft of Essence in it, but I'm not sure if that's the best route to take.

Quote:QFT.Mind Control LOVES absolutely LOVES domination. Should it be perma? To be honest, I still cannot understand the point in getting permadom unless you are soloing 100% of the time. On Teams, mez protection is easy to obtain and mezzes are easier to avoid. Stronger controls are great and all but many many sets don't need it. Mind LOVES it, yes, but you already have Terrify and can stack confuse/dominate (the power) for single targets. Free blue bar is forgettable. Eat a blue, be happy.
Build Recharge for faster spamming of Confuse/Dominate, not for perma-dom, you'll get faster doms, which is just as good. so it takes 15 seconds for dom to recharge after it falls off, not too shabby I say. Use those extra sets for extra defense/regen.
I have 2 doms, a F3 and a Mind/Psi/Psi. My F3 is fun, but I never felt the need to Permadom it. I built my Mind/P2 the same way at first and only got moderate performance from it. The second I respec'd it and went for Permadom/Permahasten levels of recharge, the game changed. If your doing anything Mind/ go for Permadom. Sure, you get the added benefit of Mez protection, but High levels of Recharge will let you spam your controls to the point you'll rarely need it. -
Quote:It's only an outlier if you remember to use it (*guilty as charged*) ... truth is 9 times out of 10 the mob I'm knee deep in is so controlled I don't need it. Bad part about that is, when I do need it, I often times have to search for the button and.... well, that's lead to me generating more Awesome than I should.I don't mind characters in general being slightly overpowered in PvE (this IS a superhero game after all) but I think they could do more to try and reign in the outliers (*cough* Drain Psyche *cough*).
But, I admit, when I do remember it, It can be nuts. -
I see what you did there.
Quote:Personally I don't agree that Mind's all that great. It may have multiple forms of AoE controls, but they're not particularly good forms of control (Sleep/Fear).
Comparing Mind Control solo and Plant Control is really like comparing Apples and Oranges, they are both good at what they do, and even better at doing it when the person driving knows what they are doing, but their means of getting the job done are completely different. Sure, seeds is up more often, o.k. Personally, I steer away from Confuses (yes, I have them. But they're layered on as a 'secondary' control to large mobs to ensure my/team safety). The thought of quickly confusing a mob and loosing XP because they're shooting each other in the face is just totally unappealing to me.

Quote:It's definitely a monster on my Controller (Dark/Time/Earth), it almost feels like CoX to 'easy mode' on +4/x8 maps. I may try one next, but I'm going to start with Water/Cold because I've never done any of the Ice/Cold sets before (and it's an excuse to buy the water blast setYou should take a serious look at doing Water/Time. /Time is a MONSTER of a set. You can deck yourself out with capped positionals and perma hasten/chronoshift and just rip things up. I have a fire/time that is right there and it's a lot of fun.

Quote:I have no doubt that in the right hands Rad/Elec could be fun. It's something that I wouldn't ever run, but the part that I didn't express well enough is that he wasn't doing any of the stuff you would expect a rad/ to be doing... he was blasting. Having started my heroing career with a Rad/Rad 'fender I guess I expect to see the primary used. *shrug*And the other part of the equation is the Radiation Emission powerset. Something about Accelerate Metabolism [PBAoE, Ally +SPD, +Recharge, +Recovery, +DMG +Res(Effects)] and Enervating Field [Toggle: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -DMG, -Res] being at work. Surely adding 25% damage and reducing the target's resistance by 30% means damage is being dealt, more if Assault is had.
So sure, in this instance, he was (and most likely still is) dealing substandard damage because he's not leveraging his Primary. But to be under the mistaken impression that Corruptors and Brutes are low-damage. That's what killed me. -
OOohh... Water/Cold would give me an excuse to use that nifty new set coming out Tomorrow...
yep, I see that happening. Thanks Madadh! -
Quote:I can remember when she first started playing, asking what melt armor and heat exhaustion were, I didn't think I did a good job explaining to her what they were. and I didn't know she was trialing at all, heck, last time I mentioned one to her she wrinkled her nose and said 'bleh'. The sneak. I thought she was far more casual a player than I... but after playing her toon, I now realize the folly of that mistake... hehe.typed and positional capping aside, Sexist undertones aside(j/k)
I suggest nearly everything/Traps, nearly everything except weapon sets/Time both sets are highly effect both teamed and solo
I was thinking fire/time... I have a /time troller that's pretty amazing. Of course, I was also thinking /pain... Decisions, decisions...

I don't normally run a ruptor, but my spouse does. I thought I'd share this with the Corruptor forum because, while I am hard pressed to play one, I respect the AT for what it's capable of and thought everyone here might get some amusement out of it.
So, my dear spouse had not gotten the chance to get the badges from the summer event and asked me to do it for her. I logged on and que'd up on her Fire/Therm. While I waited I took stock at what she'd done with the toon:
Snazzy attack chain, check...
Capped Def to s/l/e/n and all her positionals... wow...
T3 in Alpha, Destiny and Lore... huh... (didn't know she had it in her)...
Stackable debuffs... (o.o she knows what those are!?)
Two stackable boosts to her attacks?
Now, on the summer event, a lot of those things don't matter because of the level cap, but I was very impressed. It explains how she jumps into mobs at +4/x8 and lives to maniacally laugh as she cuts them down with 'moar fiar!'. But, my underestimation of my spousal unit aside, lets get back to the story.
So I zone into the event and assess the team, myself (a corruptor), a brute, a MM and a Fender. The casino heist goes well, and I managed to net all of the badges there for her while getting used to her UI before we had to do all-out combat. But, then something happens and as finish up the last AV in the heist, our MM goes *poof* and DCs never to return. There's a bit of discussion among the team, and after a bit I convince them that I've run the arena portion of the event with less than four, so we go for it. The animation begins and before long, we find ourselves toe-to-toe with the Minotaur. The following is the gyst of the conversation in team as we beat on him:
Brute: Tedious...
Me: Indeed.
Fender: Well, what do you expect, we're the three least damaging AT in the game.
Me: ...
Me: I donno, I think I do pretty well for damage.
Then I notice... I'm the only one popping off heals or shields... (which the brute had kindly reminded me to recharge, again...not a 'ruptor). What's more so I took a look at the 'fender a bit closer and tapped <info> and about cried. Rad/Elec... *sigh*
Now at upper levels, isn't the damage bonus cap on Brutes like 700%? I don't consider that anything to shake a stick at. Scourge puts Corruptors on par, if not better than, Blasters considering the debuffs they're punching out. That's not anything to take lightly either.
We won, even managed to pull off getting the badges, and I was impressed enough with my better half's toon that I'm seriously considering giving the Corruptor AT another try. So, am I wrong in my thinking?
And, as my last question, anyone have a suggestion as to fun combos to play? I've done the different incarnations of dark on different AT so i'd like to try something else, and I'd prefer to run something a bit different than the spouse's Fire/Therm just for the sake of variety.
Thanks all, hope you got a chuckle/gasp of disbelief out of the story as well.

Quote:This is not true for all types of Doms, my first toon was a fire/fire/fire Dom and I had a had a heck of a time because of how the controls work on a /fire. As a F3, your primary means of mitigating incoming damage is by debuffing enemy HP quickly... next to the fire blaster, imho an F3 is the next best at doing it. MK makes a good point, even if INF is a issue, multiple builds is the best route for this particular power set/AT combo. Build your defense build first and then save up for the obnoxious DPS build with no defenses. That's exactly what I ended up doing with my F3 Dom in the long run. Some people claim doms need no defense since they always have the mobs controlled, others say otherwise.
Hope that helps.

Pretty good build to begin with, of course, how you play and your budget effects your build. IMHO Drain Psyche, Health and Hasten are over slotted. Health and Hasten could each stand to loose a slot (use Enh boosters to make your hasten 2 50+5s) , and drop Health to 2 slots, put a Miracle: +Recovery and a Numina's +Regen/Rec in the other... That's 2 slots that you can drop into Mass Hypnosis. Drain Psyche is pretty danged wicked, but only if it hits. I'd loose the Miracle and Eff Addaptors, slap 3 Touch of the Nictus and a Theft of Essence +End proc in there and call it done (make sure you use the Accuracy and maybe the Neg damage proc).
And, all of that may be against how you play. I tank through control, if I'm doing it right I take almost no damage at all and the mobs melt around me, nom a purple cookie on the tough mobs and off I go. I'll post my current build so you can get a flavor for different styles of building and play.
Good Luck!

My best advice would be to build for Recharge. Mind Control rips things to bits once Perm-dom is reached. I've a mind/psi that was pretty amazing, but she came off the hook once I got her domination to be perma. Outside of that, go nuts, they're a solid ST/AOE power combo that you can tailor to your play style (ranged/melee).
Good luck.

IMHO, a dual form Warshade is gimped. I'm not sure how much you've played with the AT, but its strength is in its' ability for each form to buff and protect the others. Before you go nuts on the dual form, take some time to check out Dech's article on the M'fing Warshade.
http://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011...-warshade.html
There's lots I could say, but he says it better.
Good luck!

Given the limited budget, its not the worst build. But, while smoke is a great power in the field and in PVP, I don't see much use for it for a farming build. I can't say that I've ever used Earth's Embrace either. The big AOE heal Kinetics have is usually more than enough to do the trick. Really it depends on what your going to be farming, when I do it, I usually try to find a fire heavy map and use that (I went Fire/Kin/Fire for concept). 35% defense on S/L is within one purple of softcap so as long as you stick with enemies that do S&L you should be fine.
Aside from smoke and to a much lesser extent Earth's embrace, it's a good build to get you off your feet farming wise. Though I'd revisit it after you've accumulated some reserves and go with sets vs. IOs.
Good Luck and welcome back!

I was following this thread with interest as I have a KM/FA Scrapper that I took Assault on. I've been pretty underwhelmed so far as I took the T3 double-hit and see little difference, If I understand all the numbers (which at this point are making me go @.@)... then I should build for the T4 Core... because of the slower recharge on the KM?
Right? /confused -
Quote:Well... then the spouse and I are rarities as well... The mouse to activate, keyboard to drive. Course we have macros for certain things but I rarely use binds (read...um...once in 4 years of playing)I honestly didn't realize there was anyone that used mouse clicks to activate all their powers rather than the keyboard. Color me surprised. In that case I can see how the tray can be very useful for some people. I still want to be able to turn it off though.

Over the weekend I unlocked Hybrid and put the Control Core Embodiment (+1 mag) on my Mind/Psy/Psi Dom. All I can say is wow. Combined with the Intuition Radial Paragon and the Cognitive Radial she went from pretty wicked to a beast. Proc'ing both Psychic DOT and Confusion on top of amplified control is insanely fun. I'll have to save up again for the Assault Hybrid, but I certainly can see cases where the enhanced dps from Assault would be handy (read clockwork). I spend almost too much time at Range to see ever getting any use out of Melee so I doubt that'll ever see any use on her. Support, while it looks handy, will most likely be the last hybrid I build unless I see some pressing issues (doubtful) that force me to build and slot it.
But, all that might have to wait a little bit as after a weekend of Magi trials to unlock 4 Hybrid slots... Trialing is off the radar for at least a few days (and then no more Magi for a bit... *cries at the thought of still having to get 'The Really Hard Way' on the badger* )
Hope that helps.

I've enjoyed all the stories so far! I found that 'sweet spot' yet again last night as a friend and I turned a corner from a hallway into the new(ish) warehouse map. I had it set to 'die human scum' (+1/x8) so the room was FULL of Carnies. On my Dom I tank via control, so I laid into the fear....aaaaaaaaaaaaaand aggro'd a full quarter of the room, one AOE control after another I smashed buttons as my good friend pressed the 'go' button on her Blaster. One stray fireball later, what seemed like the entire room was on us. It took a while, but when the dust settled, it was one of the largest piles of Carnie bodies I've ever seen, which was inverse in to the size of my health bar now that I think of it... just an awesomely fun fight.

I have to almost force myself to stay away from anything fire. Every time I make a new toon I have this little flamey devil on one shoulder whispering in a sultry voice 'take fire... it's smexy'. Then on the other shoulder I've got the angelic 'oh, but try something el-WAAAAaaaaH!' ... yeah... it's fire.
