    Not in my experience.

I'm a very active, "lead from the front"-style MM player, as anyone who's teamed with Hanano or the Unquiet Bride could tell you. I both have and make extensive use of my primary attacks, as well as picking up the additional ones from Epics. I've never seen the point of just standing back and leaving the guys on Bodyguard.

    Nuwisha has her dire wolf.
I know how Pack Mentality works, and I use Fortify.

... and I stll find the Beast Mastery set to be an absolute pain in the rear to play, and considerably less enjoyable than any of the other MM sets I've run. (Ninja, Necro and Demons, to date-)

I'm glad someone likes it... but I doubt I'm ever going to.

I've already had two versions of Nuwisha... The first (which I deleted early-) was Beast/Thermal. The current version is Beast/FF.

Those secondaries were great with the Bride's guys (she's Necro/Thermal) and Han's pajama-wearing maniacs (Ninja/FF), but have done jack-all as far as I can see for the durability of the traveling circus. The wolves in particular also seem to ignore command changes more often than the other sets I've played. Even spamming bodyguard or putting them on full passive doesn't always keep them from running off to the far corners of creation.

I've had to make a dismiss key to keep them from aggroing entire maps. Even my ninja at their worst never drove me to do that. <_<

    This.

FCM and I were running these with a couple of friends last night and more than once it picked the person who was the slowest zoner (and thus had the character farthest from the door-)

That said, it's still a very cool scene. XD

"No worries," Palrah the tank says. "I got this."

He was even dressed the part.
  4. For me, personally...
I actually like and have pretty good luck with a lot of the sets that have been mentioned. I absolutely love my Peacebringers and Claws stalkers. Force Field (I can't imagine my Ninja MM's life without it-), Trick Arrow (Try running a decently-played one with a Demons MM and watch what happens- ) and even Sonic can be useful, and definitely have their place in the game.

That said... I'm not at all impressed with Beast Mastery. Mine's in her 30's and I'm still not at all sure I'm going to keep her. The pets are much, much more annoying to control and keep alive than either the Bride's zombies or Hanano's ninja, and that's saying something.

I also haven't been very impressed by my Electric/Electric Dom. Even at 50+3 with all his iToys, he just feels very weak solo and pretty much entirely useless on a team or league. I had Gremlins for about a week on him and respecced out of them. It was like having two Lady Janes around... those jerks' AI was just insane. And suicidal. <_<
  5. I'm a big fan of Dual Blades, myself, and part of the reson for that is the animations. They're pretty stylish.

As others have mentioned, KinMelee is another good one for that. The "racecar" sound effects are a little annoying, but the animations are ace. Color the effects the right way and it looks an awful lot like you're playing an air bender.

Street Justice is also pretty impressive, but in a less flashy way. Like someone said up-thread, it just looks and sounds BRUTAL. There's no other way to describe it... and the real charm of the animations for me is in the small details. The little half-steps and balace corrections the character makes, for instance. Other sets just don't have that.
  6. Eh. I only shift my retired characters to Virtue... For the active crew, I much prefer the company on Liberty and Union.
  7. This one was just intended to be a quick portrait shot for the costume thread, but I think it's pretty in its own right....

Aken the Peacebringer, about to set out for Parts Unknown...

I'd say "working normally," not sure if it's "as intended" for that but pretty much par.
This particular problem (Kheldians being unable to use ANY of their pets while in forms... Vanity, vet *or* purchased... It's not just the Leprechaun-) only cropped up when pets were switched from one-click summons to toggles, so I suspect you're right. It's a new expression of an age-old complaint.

I still bugged it in-game and mentioned it on the forums at the time, and have brought it up again several times since then, but thus far the only dev response to the issue has been complete silence.

I suspect that either means they don't know how to fix the problem, or they're unwilling to. It's not like there are all that many of us who play multi-form Kheldians...

'Still miss having Sola's little blue whisp around, though.

    Beans will be there.
  10. I'd say Gulf Coast or Mississippi Delta given the look of the old residential area of Lamdba Sector...

    SSA2.1 choices

Shade in Shadow (my KM stalker) and her partner Chaw (DB scrapper) decided to invite Brawler... Being full-on Incarnate types, they didn't really need him. They just thought it might be fun to have the old guy aong.

He did show up when we exited the fort map. Eventually.

... And then promptly wandered off to to chase Talons in some remote corner of the map neither of our player characters ever visited.

'Guess he just wasn't up for teaming with a Rularuu bird-thing and a mutant skunk.

I can tell you haven't tried soloing a stalker through First Ward yet...

In all seriousness, while Praetoria in general (and First Ward in particular-) aren't *impossible* for stalkers, they're not exactly what I'd call fun, either. A ton of character-targeted ambushes involving larger-than-average groups, escort allies that can't see through Hide, critter factions that make Assassin's attacks utterly useless... It's a real pain in the butt, and problematic in ways that just don't hit other ATs.

Sure, it CAN be done... I ought to know. I've gone through the whole Praetorian song and dance with three now... but at this point I really am convinced that the devs who designed First Ward had something against sneaky folk.

    Agreed.

I'd love to have it eventually on my badge collector for completeness' sake, but being one of those more casual types, I know Palrah wouldn't come close to passing the "gear check" a serious attempt would require... not to mention the whole issue of his pilot not exactly being "pro" to begin with.

So... Yeah. I'll give it some time.
It's not like the badge is going to go anywhere in the meantime.

Same here... It's hitting several of my characters who use various versions of the bolero.

That's what I do, too. I just feel like it's better to help someone new get through their own stuff than to bring them along as a side-kick on mine.

Since Freedom went live and we got a good-sized influx of new players over on Liberty, I've made a point of keeping Help turned on, talking to and playing with them. I typically do most of that on Anigan, my hero-side SJ/WP brute, because he was started around the same time as many of them and is still mid-level with a mostly-SO build. That keeps him on a more or less level playing field with his team-mates, since most of the new players he's run with are Freems or low-tier Preems. I think it's just more fun when we're all in the same boat.

I do still get questions about things like paid power sets and vet rewards... I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked how I got Ani's angelic wings, in particular... as well as the usual ones re: How Things Work. But simply having vet powers or running on a paid-for AT or with a purchased power-set alone isn't really showing off. Especially not if you're all in there together, equally up to your struggling-lowbie eyes in Vahz.

    Level Shifts

For what it's worth, as a player BAF and Lambda are the only iTrials I'll take a flat-50 on. They're the only ones I feel like an unshifted character can make much of a contribution towards. I don't go into Keyes or TPN without at least a +1. And even then, TPN depends entirely on what the toon in question is...

A support-type like Nem can do a lot in there with only one level shift, where oneof my tanky- or damage-type probably wouldn't handle it as well. I'd hold off until I had the second level shift on one of those. Likewise Underground. I might (and did with Beans, IIRC) take a +2 support type along, but I still feel a lot more comfortable with a +3. I have a similar impression of DD, and even more-so of Magi.

... And I'm not setting digital foot inside MoM with anything less than a +3 with full-slotted Shadowfall. Ever. You know how I am about that thing.

    Level Shifts

Heh. 'Shows how out of touch with the game I've become, I guess... but I had no clue it was now considered a Bad Thing to bring an unshifted character to a BAF or Lambda. I've been starting my flat-50s with those for as long as we've had them, and no one has ever said a word about it.

I guess we're all expected to rely on shards and WSTs, or to solo DA a few times to get the bits for our T3 Alphas, now? o_O

As for the rest... as far as I'm concerned, there are perfectly valid *reasons* for wanting shifted characters on some trials, and under those circumstances it only makes sense to limit the league in that way. A +1 just isn't going to be all that helpful on a Magi run, no matter how skilled its player may be. The game's systems and numbers just are what they are.

Agreed... But that's mostly because I'd hate to have to "start over" and re-roll my own siren character (a Sonic defender, and one of the toons I've done the whole full-slotted +3 Incarnate-thing with... ie: a character who would be a real pain in the butt to re-build from scratch <_<).
  20. In answer to the OP... Yes. Yes, I have. On more than one character, even.

See, it's sort of a small point of pride to do the Shard TFs and contacts with my crew, since many of them belong to a particular species of (Non-canon, obviously-) Rularuu themselves. They're supposed to be what's left of Faathim's followers, so at the very least I like to do his TF with them.

'Trouble is, those TFs aren't run very often and interest in them is very limited... and when I'm out overseer-hunting or running the regular and repeatable missions, I usually have the entire zone to myself. Most of the non-forum-going players in the game seem to have no clue the Shard even exists.

Red side... I would love to play it, but was unable to get the stupid tip to drop so I could start. In that evening's play, I managed to get four normal alignment tips to drop, mind you. Even turned things up to x1/+4 just to have more enemies to drop tips. Nada. Is there some trick or zone I should be using to get this?
There's no tip or actual contact for this one red-side. Just click the Signature Arc box on you contacts list and select SSA2 to start.

The Captain has always been like that...
It's just the way that particular character is. He's a flamboyant, theatrical goof-ball with questionable taste and an ego the size of Detroit.

I had a great time with him, and suspect that even if they revamped the character with a 100% new model, he'd still have a costume that involved loud colors and a flame job. XD
  24. My first thought on finishing the villain side version? ... "Kestrel's really going to hate giving up her new toy when this plan ultimately goes south."

("That's CAPTAIN Kestrel to you!" she says, putting on her pirate hat. )
  25. The only other time I've ever gotten threads was on one of my Dark defenders "back in the day", when Lambda and BAF were no more than a week or so old. 'Didn't see that table again until it popped up for Kestrel (my DB stalker-) in Magi.
