TL;DR version - you don't understand the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll break it down so that you can even understand. Real PvPers rely on intrinsic motivation. In all sorts of PvP formats (FPS, RTS, and even RPG), the desire to face against real competition, the fights, the drive to be the best is the ultimate motivator. Luring fake PvPers with extrinsic motivation will just result in bunches of wannabes running around going "where's mah lewt!" That does nothing to improve the actual PvP gameplay.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would like to challenge you, as an exercise, to try and think of three ways this could actually improve PvP gameplay. Short or Longterm, immediate or delayed gratification, whatever comes to mind just go for it! -
I'd seen it best described, for me, as, "Not in MY dungeon!"
The Devs are, and you can't really blame them TOO hard for this, really just fallible human being like all of us. I do wish they would try harder to not be. It has to get worse over time as one struggles to prop up the game under the weight of ignoramuses like me pounding on their forum skulls and ooking in their forum ears with my whining.
I pretty much never pvp in CoX. I did and do PvP in WoW. In WoW they give out pvp gear freely enough that some folks call it "welfare gear" depending on which pieces you are buying. Sometimes the better PvP players whine that "everyone" can get their gear and the WoW devs tweak a setting here and there so that the better players can have some unique gear for a while but in the end it all trikles down to anyone investing enough time in the PvP zones and arenas. Sounds similar, but the amount of time is actually limited. There are daily quests to participate in PvP zones and arena rewards are gifted once per week if you played 10 games all encouraging you to play a bit then go do other things, rather than sit and grind endlessly for a random drop. Essentially they have merits for PvP, different though but it's a merit like system.
One of the benefits of a merit-esque system is you get to pick what you get. This is not as necessary in CoX as we don't have "bind on X" items where you can't trade them to other players as we can pickup and trade/sell/auction/consign anything but we do already have "but it nao" on merit vendors so might as well keep that up. CoX is definitely moving away from the model it had realized, that of multiple alts, and moving back to the "lets get them to have a main and sink time into it." I feel drops should be free enough in PvP to kit out your toon in about 2 weeks but that is just a fudgy cloud number, 2 weeks for one person might be 80 hours and only 8 for another. "2 weeks" to me means "quickly enough that you don't get bored and switch to an alt." CoX should play up it's Alt-friendly-ness IMO. Then rewards can be a bit faster and easier than other games. -

I fully intend to undercut your listing price by a small % as to reap a ridiculous amount of infamy from some fool-hearty soul.
My ebil > your ebil.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but in one specific sale he will be more ebil, can your ebil envy handle it? -
Reads 12.15 on level 4 scrapper and slider takes it up to 25.95 at 50.

So you have multiple different paths to get there?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hello Arbiter. The point is that no one can be the best. It's relatively easy for everyone to be the same and at cap.
Am I wrong?
[/ QUOTE ]
This makes about as much sense as a coheed and cambria lyric...
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, thinks back to his Rockband days, "Like jesus played martyr..." yep makes sense. I guess you were agreeing? -
Redside they go for that price as a recipe, let alone crafted. Haven't checked blueside in a couple of weeks.
TBH they fluctuate all over the place. I recall seeing a bidding history where someone snagged one for 1 inf, compared to that you are all suckers getting ripped off. /em shrug -
I thought The Market rhetoric was that prices can't be broken or wrong...
-
They should add the color of "clear" to the selections.
-
You can see this all in effect if you open the combat monitor window. They have names like "huge" and "ultimate" even when they are the same percentage.
-
I hope the folks railing on and on for Devices change will allow those of us that enjoy the different playstyle to keep our version or at least follow the "cottage rule" when proposing changes.

I hear those two cancel out, or is it that paparazzi see right through celebrity stealth? -

Edit: Note to devs: You really [censored] up on RSF, didn't you? Said, by the way, by someone who has completed it many times with many ATs.
[/ QUOTE ]
So have I. One of the most memorable was with 3 brutes, 3 widow/fort's, a dom (not perma mind) and a (i think) fire/cold corr. We woud have got master too, if BABs hadnt landed 2 lucky hits in a row on the /fire brute.
I've also done the last fight (Pre Master badge) without anyone taking a death with the /stone brute teleporting into the middle of the heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, well, good to know it's [censored] based on luck rather than skill.
[/ QUOTE ]
No idea what you're complaining about now. The only "luck" in either of his examples was BaB ruining what was probably not even a Master attempt by getting in two hits back to back. Defense is finicky like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
No idea, or exactly the idea? -
[ QUOTE ]
Sure you can say it's not exactly the same... but really... it's the same.

Well sure I'll agree to tha... hey! -

There's probably at least half a dozen to a dozen different ways you could build a vampire in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
There have probably been a zillion threads on this as well!
Study your search-fu, grasshopper!
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, searching "all" forums for the last year with the keyword "vampire" I saw maybe 1 other thread that would qualify. Does the search cut off after a certain number of results? -

So wait... you're just wanting it to say the numbers even if the target is already dead? I play several sets with rather longish animations (old Assault Rifle and Energy Melee to name two) but personally rarely ran into situations where people were killing entire groups in less than 2 1/2 seconds. I don't know, doesn't really seem needed/have a purpose to me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Remember, the target isn't dead, it's defeated, and yes I see it all the time on long animation powers.
[/ QUOTE ]Defeat doesn't preclude death.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well yes, no [censored], this is why it was pointed out and why the term is used, because it neither precludes nor demands death of the subject. -

It's really quite funny and cool how Marketeering has evolved into a subculture.
[/ QUOTE ]
And the funny thing is that people have realized that there's no need to even be secretive. For every person who reads and heeds this forum, there are 100 who blithely pay "gotta have it now" prices.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, as you saw in this thread, people like myself or Nethergoat that just pay for convenience. -
How are you supposed to know which of the mobs in Nerva, Port Oaks, St. Martial or the little hidden dudes in the pools of Grandville are going to be the ones you summon? Similar names I guess?

[ QUOTE ]
Certain attacks in the game diminish based on distance,/quote]
I'm trying to think of some examples of this. I thought maybe Nova but that's just a chance they'll take the full damage.
Or are you talking about as a general design philosophy, like, mobs tend to do less damage at range than in melee? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Not necessarily. How many times are there "stealth" nerfs or fixes?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not often or very rarely. Pick one.
I'm guessing you don't have an actual figure and are just here to make some noise.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd say at LEAST as frequently as every Issue patch and probably more frequently. They do not advertise fixes for exploits, by their own policy, in order to prevent spreading knowledge of exploits and such. Sometimes nerfs are straight nerfs for balance and sometimes things are changed to prevent exploits or even worse.
In fact, they were growing so notorious for incomplete patch notes and such that they even publicly discussed the fact that they were revamping their process. Unfortunately I believe this was back when castle was named _castle_ and/or has been lost to the board monster. Nevertheless, you can search google for things like that and still find remnants of people talking about it. They ARE generally good at owning up to it after the fact and being honest when called out on it.
