Quote:I see the first image and think...no way...not Buffy. Looks terrible.Well I'm coming at this from the point of view of never having seen a single episode of Glee (the whole idea of the show makes queasy) but having seen pretty much every episode of Buffy/Angel and the original Buffy movie. From that mindset I look at Heather Morris:
*image here*
*image here*
And can accept that she at least "looks" like a Buffy when you compare her to Kristy Swanson and Sarah Michelle Gellar. I really have little faith in this Buffy reboot (without Whedon's involvement) to begin with, but I figure they could have considered someone worse than Heather. *shrugs*
I see the second image and think...okay maybe. -
Quote:My suggestion...Fire/Cold!Thanks for all the advice folks.
I ended up actually building BOTH and doing a quick run to lvl 10 on each.
Obviously, lvl 10 isn't a real indicator of full-power, but it was enough for me to
decide to stay with the Defender version. He's quite fun.
I do still want to give a Corruptor a good try, it's the one AT that I've done very little with.
I did an energy blast/(something, don't remember now) Corruptor right after CoV came out, but that's about it.
Hmm, maybe a Fire/Cold or a Rad/Rad . . . Dr. Deuterium, my Rad/Rad Defender, could make an interesting Praetorian version as a Corruptor . . .
Here's why...
1) You have a Rad/Rad Defender. There won't be a big playstyle difference outside of getting the blasts sooner.
2) You're looking to give Corrs a try, you might as well grab the blast set Defenders don't have access to.
3) Cold Domination is just AWESOME!
4) You can still say it's a Praetorian version of your Rad/Rad! -
Ice/Cold/Levianthan Corr!
Hibernate, and the sharks can easily be said to be ice constructs untill they introduce a Ice Epic for Corrs. -
Quote:*still awaiting the prefered playstyle build*See, I think the term "hype" has lost all meaning for me at this point.
There are plenty of AT/power set combinations that can solo 8-man spawns/AVs/pylon/GMs/whatever, and there are plenty that can't yet are still fantastic in a group. Hype is subjective.
It's why the standard "wise man" answer to the question "What is the ideal team composition" is "Me and 7 competent players." After reading through all this, the question of hype seems silly...it may as well be "Which bear is best?"*
Find the build that accomodates your preferred playstyle and don't worry about what other folks are enjoying.
*Black bear.

Here's a quick build to look over, not sure exactly what you wanted except no purples.
Pistols->DW->Pistols->ES-> Repeat attack chain
44.9% S/L/Ranged Defense
-ToHit, works great as that DDR people say you need for defense to work.
Not sure how great the end usage is, but looks decent.

Quote:That's what I try to remind people in my SG, friends in game, when asked for help.I have no illusions about the ST damage, it is very poor (I should do a pylon test one of these days just to see how bad it really is).
Generally I'm running through tips at 0x8 with bosses off, or I have 7 other friends to take care of the bosses - because I took care of nearly everything else.
I like when people are horribly disappointed, because it means they didn't actually bother to read up on a set before they used it.
A lot of theUBER builds you see, are UBEr because they took the right powers, and they slotted the right IOs.
Shields is a case for this.
"OMG! I thought Shields was suppossed to be all that! I die so easily! It sucks!"
*check their build* "You lack Tough and Weave, and have no set bonuses for added defense."
or
"I have the uber combo, but I suck"
*check build* "Well, you're lacking this and this power"
"It doesn't work with my concept."
"Then you're missing part of the combo.
"
And the worst ever...
"I'm the uber healer! I took just my first attack!"
"You're archery, at least take RoA!"
"But then I wouldn't be focusing on being uber healer!"
"

Quote:Well, te taunting, attacking, using AOEs, isn't that pretty normal to do for all Tankers who aren't WP?Well, tanking Ghost Widow without spinning around and getting wailed on means softcapped Ranged or Negative Energy defense - that hold is Mag 100, so if it lands, it's going to hold you. That means you're going to want some defense in your primary.
Shield Defense is very easy to do that on, and also has a teleport-nuke and a healthy damage buff for zone PvP.
Invulnerability isn't that hard to soft-cap to E/NE, and has very good S/L resistance into the bargain along with Dull Pain, a great HP boost. Players do a lot less S/L damage than NPCs, but it's still going to be noticeable.
Ice is easier to softcap than Invuln, but has no S/L resist and a bit of a hole to Fire. Does have a DP clone and two aggro auras, though, so you should be able to hold aggro no problem. Surviving it may be something of another matter.
Willpower has the opposite problem. Its survivability is great (defense, resistance, regeneration and max HP are all available in useful amounts), but you're going to have to work on holding aggro with your secondary, because RttC, while very useful for survivability, has a weak taunt component. You can still tank for a team, but it's a lot more active - keep taunting, attacking, and using AoEs as much as you can.
And, of course, Dark Armor. With substantial investment, you can have a Dark tanker capped to S/L/E/N, along with very healthy resistances and Dark Regeneration for a quick refill. Once capped, probably has the best performance against Ghost Widow, thanks to the very high Negative resistance in the set. Mez auras will help you hold aggro for the team, but Cloak of Fear can cause some serious End problems, and Oppressive Gloom tends towards causing scatter, which some AoE heavy teams would rather avoid. All manageable, but also in some need of management.
Otherwise, I'm going to need the rest of that post to help. It seemed a bit... abrupt towards the end.
Personally, I never considered Granite to be the tankiest (as the OP suggests) outside of SO (generic IO) builds.
Granite's slowness is annoying. And many Stone Armor Tankers reliance on having a KIN present is also annoying.
To the OP, while it pains me to say it, I might suggest Shields if you're looking for a strong aggro aura, and really the knockdown from Shield Charge does help teams. -
While I personally love having the list of set bonuses returned, if it means the loss of which boost is slotted as being listed, I'd rather have the Alpha Boost listed.
The list of set bonuses can imo, tell you about some builds (not always but it can), but knowing my teammates have the Alpha Boost crafted and slotted I find of more importance, when forming teams for Apex or Tin Mage. -
Quote:Why not slot it with 3 Eradications and 3 Cleaving Blows, for more E/N Defense?Couple things:
You REALLY want Spin, it's an awesome AoE.
You should slot Spin and Eviscerate with 4xEradication and 2xScirocco's for the E/N defense. Reason being, you resist the hell out of S/L damage, but don't resist E/N that much, so you should probably work on more defense to it. -
Something to remember, is Power Sink isn't just a END Recovery power. It's a survival power!
Power Sink was the only thing allowing my Elec/Elec Brute tank the rank and file of the ITF.
And even then, without the defense, it was risky, if I didn't drain them fast enough, I could just as easily be put into the ground if the team didn't have decent support.
It is a fun set though. Very active. Working on another /Elec Armor Brute (would of been a scrapper, but I wanted as much Energy Resist as possible, as I think it was needed with my concept). -
My first (and so far only) shielder was a Red, White and Blue MA/Shield Scrapper, named American-Girl (Half Alien, Half Human, all American)
She wasn't intended to be a Captain America ripoff or even homage, and in fact she was originally a MA/INV untill I saw the Vanguard Shield. I'd make more Shielders if that shield unlocked at level 2!
I haven't played it since the improvements to MA, but I enjoyed her then! Never really used Shield Charge to actually charge into the group though.
Run in, soak up the DMG buffs then unleash a Shield Charge -> Dragon Tail combo
Sure, other AOE combo's where stronger, but I loved it! -
Penelope's like 20 now. Need to change it up

Quote:Well, on the grounds that people want to solo and team, I'd say Dark Miasma would be popular for that reason alone. The thing is that I, at least, view "hype" as a measure of distance in performance between the set and other sets. I think few people question whether some of the sets they've mentioned are good. What they (or at least I) question is whether they are so clearly superior to other alternatives that we should see 10 of them to every 1 of another.
I found my Dark Miasma users to solo a lot better than my Rads. -
Quote:If they're thinking DM is overhyped, it may just be because they've run into a lot people not playing the set optimally. You NEVER see a DM in game? I have numerous ones.. Thugs/DM MM.. 50 level Rogue, Bots/DM MM .. 45 level Vigilante (started her career in Praetoria, DS/DM MM .. 50 leve Rogue. I think what some people don't realize or understand is that every single one of the powers in DM has some form of Debuff, Slow, Disorient.. whatever. YES I heal a lot.. NO it's not because I am working on heal badges or just like to see green numbers flying over people's heads.. My heals also have 2 slots of To Hit Debuff and I am making life tougher for the villains in front of you to do any damage. Yeah I have a Rez but it also has the ability to disorient a Boss or even an EB so I strongly suggest you carry some awake because I am NOT promising it will be available if you face plant! My MMs are very popular on ITFs since they tend to leave Romulus swatting at thin air while the team pounds him senseless. Don't get me wrong I also have RAD defenders I love and several versions of Controllers that provide great buffs but I have seen some listing DM as over hyped. I've seen quite a few players on Virtue using it and using it very well.
AV fights for instance, I've run into lots of DM users who just aren't using HT to apply the -Regen. And during normal missions, they're saving HT as a rez, not using it as an AOE stun.
I've seen people skip HT, since they didn't want a rez. Nevermind everything else is does.
I've seen one DM user skip Tar Patch :/ I figure there has to be others out doing that as well :/
When not using it to it's fullest, it can seem very overhyped. -

I can't be the only one who doesn't see the great thing about this. Okay, I'm not, I know of at least two others feel the same way.
But what exactly is the big deal about it?
Before, get to login screen, spend 1-2 seconds typing in the password, then at the character select screen.
Now, sure can save that 2 seconds, but only half the time, when it doesn't boot me to the login screen anyways, giving me a message that says "still logged in" -
Would Sonic Renosance be effected by the level shift or maybe a Thermal?
The -Resist is static, not sure if the AVs would resist it more just because of level shift, but it would add +Resist to the HVASs. -
I never understood the complaints about 3, loved all three of the previous ones, I hope 4 entertains me just as much
-
Quote:I'd still replace the Panacea Proc, with a P.Shifter Proc in Stamina. The Regen you can handle without, the added +END will go a long way.The build is looking good. Very good, actually. If there are no more things to consider, no more revisions to look at, then I will be calling it good and collecting what I need.
And if you'd like to use the Fire Blast, I'd say go for it...Smite->MG->FB->SL->Repeat, not a an extreme loss in DPS, and if you think the fireblast would be better for the concept, I say do it!
Make the toon more enjoyable to play. And even with this build, you can still go SM->MG->SM->SL

Well, HPT should be giving a tiny bit of resist to those, but I was basing this off of IO investments, also WP's regen goes a long way to mitigating the damage.
Like I said, you can't go wrong with either. I do great with WP.
And Dull Pain does help with PSI, but I find without some resists it can still be painful. -
While I prefere /WP over /INV, there's pros and cons to both.
First off, remember /WP is toggle and go, yes it's tier 9 is a clickie, but while I would never skip it (some do), it's a better preemptive clickie, than middle of combat clickie, and even then you won't be using it as much.
/INV on the other hand, has Dull Pain, a self-heal that increases you're hit point total. This clickie will see a bit more action, and therefore the set will seem a bit more active.
With either set, I'd be building to hit softcap on their defenses, both of which are typed based defenses, so I'd likely get rid of Parry myself in a late level respec (depends on what level IOs you're planning on using).
Both sets I'd be taking Tough/Weave, and while I'd give the edge to an ITF run to the /INV, over all game, I'd give it to /WP. Though that edge narrows the more invested (IO usage) you are in the toon.
/WP has the PSI resist/defense factor, while /INV finds PSI to be a weakness (one of the edges WP has).
/INV has some END REC Protection, but with softcapped defenses (which both could have) and QR and Stamina (and maybe Physical Perfection if you grab it), you won't tend to notice the end drainers.
Neither set will give you much worry about redraw. INV will give it a bit more since you will being using Dull Pain more the Strength of Will, but it shouldn't be to much of a factor either way to make a terrible difference. -
Quote:This sounds more like "I hate Paul Walker" and less "Brian O'Conner can't take a punch".I'll be NOT seeing this! Well maybe??? I swear I'm gong to make an invulnerable tanker named Paul Walker, he sohuld have died in the last movie after the beat down Diesel put on him after he found out Walker had used Michelle to infiltrate that drug ring. Laughably Paul Walker only seemed to have messed his hair up :: rolls eyes::
And that beat down wasn't all that by Vin. Now I'm not saying Vin couldn't beat up Brian, I'm just saying Brian can take some punches.
Though, it's nice to know that Tokyo Drift is technically last in the series. I keep wondering where each movie was suppossed to be in the series.
And remember, Brian didn't use Letty. Letty asked to do it. -
