  1. Assuming you're using a PC client for North American servers, you can download the setup program here:

    http://download.cityofheroes.com/US/CoH_NA_Setup.exe

You can use your regular login information once it's done downloading and installing, but it'll be a while because you'll have to download the whole game with all of the most recent patches.

I'll make a stab at it, starting with the current totals of 701 for Heroes and 623 for Villains. Rather than just add the total badges in each category, I'll examine them individually. As Chad said, though, we really don't have any details on how the mechanics will work.

    Exploration Badges
44 new for Heroes and 86 for Villains. You might have to get the Safeguard/Mayhem badges by joining someone else's team depending on how the Detectives and Brokers are opened up to the opposite faction. I'll also be conservative and not count Jail Bird for Heroes.

    History Badges
4 new for Heroes and 16 for Villains. Don't foresee any issues with these.

    Accomplishment Badges
24 new for Heroes and 36 for Villains. Again, it could be tricky to get some of the story arc badges based on how contacts open up. I don't know that any red names have hinted at how Ouroboros would work once you've switched sides, but you might have to join other people's missions for them. Also, it'll be a little weird to have a brute beating on LR during the STF, or a controller doing the LRSF, so we'll have to see if there are any limits put on accessibility for TFs and SFs.

    Achievement Badges
2 new for Heroes and 3 for Villains. I'm playing this one safe and saying that you won't be able to get the badges for side missions in Safeguard/Mayhem missions.

    Accolade Badges
11 new for Heroes and 13 for Villains. In addition to not getting the powers from opposite Accolades, I don't think we'll get to double-dip with the Day Jobs.

    Gladiator Badges
17 new for Heroes and 15 for Villains. Villains won't be able to get 5th Columnist because they can't have Celebrant. I'm also going to say that the gladiators awarded upon attaining certain levels won't award for the opposite side.

    Veteran Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges.

    PvP Badges
I'm going to be conservative and say that these totals won't change from what they already are because the devs have already said that you can't get badges for defeating your own Signature characters. If that changes, then bonus for us.

    Invention Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges.

    Defeat Badges
14 new for Heroes and 23 for Villains. Again, not counting the Safeguard/Mayhem defeat badges, nor Isolator for Villains.

    Event Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges. (Except for Celebrant which Villain characters can't get.)

    Ouroboros Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges.

    Wentworths/Black Market Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges.

    Day Job Badges
Being conservative and saying that we won't be able to earn the opposite Day Jobs to avoid double dipping.

    Architect Badges
No new ones because both sides already can get all badges.

Adding these new badges together, my conservative total is 817 for Heroes and 815 for Villains. The discrepancy is because of Celebrant/5th Columnist, unless the devs do find a way to make the yearly event badges global. In any case, there's sure to be more badges for everyone to collect, even if you don't switch sides.
  5. If it's the third badge listed on the Defeats tab, it's for defeating Lanaruu the Mad five times. (The order of those three badges is flamethrowers, Lord Recluse, Lanaruu.) The description is "???" and the bar itself is bugged in that it doesn't progress evenly for each time you defeat him. For example, my SG has defeated him twice and the bar is at 64%. I'd guess that you still have one or two times to go to complete the badge.

    get started

When you first start up the game it has to patch itself to the most current live version. This usually consists of 2+ GB of data, which can take quite a while depending on your connection speed. Fortunately, you should only have to do the large download once. Unfortunately, you have to patch through the updater to play the game. After the initial download and patch, you'll only have to download more when there are updates to the game.

  8. I just checked that page as well as various other pages on the site and everything seems to be working fine. You might want to check your own computer for an infection. I've seen people have stuff on their computers that they didn't know was there, but would cause behavior like you described. Specifically, run msconfig and see if there's anything you don't recognize on the Startup tab.

It's just a messaging keyboard attached to a standard Xbox 360 controller. You can get it at Walmart or any other video game store. Dunno if it works for CoH.
  10. IE8 works fine for everything for me running XP: forums, movies, updater.

It's true that the mini-maps do have (most of) the green lines for the geysers now, but the map pack still provides valuable information to supplement that. You get all other geysers that are missing from the regular map, optimal zone connection paths both using and between geysers, and boundaries for islands that are stacked on top of each other.

For example, this detail of Cascade Archipelago:

Just remember that standard IOs can be purchased and crafted any time from any of the Universities/invention worktables around the city, as long as you have the salvage and inf for them.

  15. No worries about thinking you're asking a silly question. Once you get past level 30, there isn't a standard store for purchasing enhancements. Instead, you have to talk to a specific contact and do one mission to unlock their store, after which they'll sell you enhancements.

For natural origin, you'll need to find Agent Six in Founders' Falls. She's located in a tunnel of the Gaspee neighborhood. You can use the following information to help find her location:

    VidiotMaps map

    Paragon Wiki entry

One other thing you might consider doing, since you're at a good level, is consider using IO enhancements instead of SOs for the rest of your journey to 50. They'll never expire and actually give you better bonuses than SOs.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

The only thing at the minimum specs for the game was the graphics card. However Speed Boost would either cause a slide show or crash my system, just like being on a Hami Raid (Issue 6). I think in both cases that I got down to .5 FPS before the crash.

In 1996, I got a GeForce 6600. I didn't raise my graphics settings a lot, but kept particles to nil as well as some other settings. I could actually participate in Hami Raids without crashing often. If I reduced some graphics settings the Hami Raids wouldn't crash me, but Speed Boost did (and reduced my FPS at LEAST 10 FPS, if not more).

At the end of 1997, I got an AMD 64 Dual Core 2.6 system with 2 GB ram and an onboard nVidia chipset. Zoning to Ouroboros had a 50-50 chance of crashing me to the desktop. Speed boost would lower my FPS, but didn't crash me as often.

At the end of 1998, I got a nVidia 8600 GTX card and a new power supply to run it. I can zone freely to Ouroboros, my machine can keep up with speed boost, but I still don't like it.
I think you might be a decade off on your timeline, SG.

    Ah, good catch. Fixed now.

Yeah, the work required for the charts wasn't all that difficult, but just many hours of going cross-eyed staring at spreadsheets and counting tally marks.
  18. [necro mode="on"]

For any of you who may remember this thread, I've made some long-neglected updates to these charts that bring them up to date with the changes that have been implemented in the last 2½ years. These include adding very rare and PvP recipes, extra recipe categories, complete drop pool info, and zone/mob changes. I also restructured a couple charts in preparation for Going Rogue. I hope some people can find these at least interesting, if not useful, to see how salvage distribution compares.

    Best server

One other thing to keep in mind, too, is that, unlike some other games, you aren't restricted to only making characters of one faction per server, or limited to how many servers you're on. So don't be afraid to make characters on several servers and see how the communities compare. (The notes about time zone differences will still apply, though.)

  23. Gratz on the badge. Just remember that you can check the Wiki page for each of the defeat badges to get an idea of where to find the particular critters you need.

You can also download the VidiotMaps In-Game Map Overlay that will show you where the dig site entrances and paths are.
