And even with a power that was certainly one of the best in the game, and on its OWN arguably 'overpowered', EM as a whole set did not overperform in overall pve performance (it did overperform in the old pvp format, but ironically, would not now with the new format, in fact old ET would do pitiful damage in pvp now...). Why? Because EM was more balanced then than it is now, because all of EM's mediocre to poor powers were balanced by one glorious power. Old ET would be 'too good' if you stuck it in another powerset that had more good to great powers than EM, but it worked in EM because EM as a whole was already underpowered.

That is why nerfing ET without proportionately buffing the rest of the set has left EM an underperforming MESS.
Then the single target nature of the rest of the set needs to be brought up. I don't agree that it should be changed into something that's great at AOE, cause that was NEVER the point of the set.

EDIT: I also don't agree that all of EM's powers are mediocre especially with it's secondary mitigation. Stun IS very potent as a mitigation factor.

The most important thing about inherent stamina is that every single one of my characters will be picking up Recall Friend.

About six months ago my mother started playing. She's 64 years old, never used a computer before, and had never played an arcade or console game. Learning to play COH has been a challenge for her, but she loves it. She gets lost sometimes, particularly in caves or maps that have multiple levels in a room. Recall Friend will make it easier for both of us.
sorry, just an aside, but THIS is epic! and full of WIN!

Yep. If they got cross server teaming working then I could see the names issue super jumping (heh) to the top of the priority list. Until then not so much.

As far as this stuff goes, all of you are correct that many people would likely still try to slash command ignore people.

The only way I could see them speeding the retraining of the player population would be to GMOTD the heck out of this issue along with disabling some existing slash commands. When executed, the disabled commands would bring up a popup reminding them of the new system and that for the time being one needs to click to report or ignore offending names.

There are drawbacks to either system.

Note that though I'm in the camp of "I'd like to see open naming explored," my desires for the game do have priorities. This falls far behind incarnates, new costumes, graphical updates to old zones, unique mission maps, revamps of older content, revamps of older zone events, a few new unique zones with highly unique climates and features from what we currently have (outer space, moon, arctic, tropic) and even removal of some or all of the war walls. It's pretty far down that list. So though I'd like to see it explored for this game, it may be something more fitting for any next generation successor to this game.

And if it is worked into a successor game, I'd personally like to see the system even more robust allowing for secret identities and temporary aliases for mission specific content, i.e. seeing your name change to Arbiter Pink or some such were you to go undercover to infiltrate an Arachnos base and then revert back to your hero alias once the disguise comes off. Again all the immediately above being fantasies for a robust sequel to CoX, not features retroactively introduced and woven into existing content.
You said it better than I did. I agree. I'd like to see them do ALL of that (and I have a few other things like APP/PPP power customization and further animation customization for things like dual pistols and kinetic melee) WAAAAAAAAAAAAY before unique names.
  6. I have no dog in this show.

Whatever the devs decide I'm fine with.

However, the fact that when asked in person during a conference, and a majority of players said they are FINE with the current system . . . speaks volumes.

The only thing I would say, is that THIS issue shouldn't be a priority with the multitude of other things they need to work on.

If we had to pick one or the other, (and from the recent PAX answers to a lot of questions and long requested features it looks like there is STILL a juggling of priorities at Paragon Studios EVEN with their increased staffing) I'd rather they spend time developing tech for cross server teaming (tfs, pvp, PUGs) than waste it on this. Just my opinion.

Now THAT is an interesting point. If that power had been the way it is when COH first introduced EM, would anyone have considered EM to be fast?

Meaning if the nerf to it had happened when the set was being made, or when Castle pointed it out during Statesman's time (and not left the set alone like that for 2 years) would anyone have considered that EM is the fastest set?

Rogues should be able to do it too, they have access to all other villain content. My dominator certainly didn't lose the arc (she was halfway through) when she turned Rogue, and they unlocked fine when I finished it.

    Otherwise, yes.
One caveat. As a Rogue you can't START the arc for patron pools. If you were a villain when you started it you should still have access, as you stated.

The problem is that geeks aren't honest about geek culture. Sometimes it has crossover appeal, sometimes it doesn't. But they (we) rarely admit it. I had a pretty good idea that Scott Pilgrim wasn't going to be a $200m movie, and even $100m was going to take a miracle. Its crossover potential was iffy. Even Inception wasn't well received by everyone, but I had a pretty good idea that Inception was going to appeal to about ten times more people, even though it too was a fairly intelligent and well-crafted movie that wasn't typical summer blockbuster fare (turns out the number is more like thirty times as many, not ten).

It shouldn't be hard to understand why a movie like Star Trek did so well and a movie like Scott Pilgrim didn't. And its not because the movie going audience is "stupid." They sometimes are, but that's not the reason. That same stupid movie going audience turned out to see Gran Turino, they turned out to see District 9, and they even turned out to see Coraline. And I think the fact that it *is* virtually impossible for some people to come to grips with why Star Trek did well against the geek backlash and Scott Pilgrim did poorly with the geek support tells you why Scott Pilgrim failed. Its because people don't get this that they can't ever learn from it.

The bottom line is that Scott Pilgrim's audience was presumed, but Scott Pilgrim isn't even a wide-audience item in the geek culture. Its a subculture of a subculture of a subculture. Its basically a replication of the Speed Racer mistake.

Still, I think the final verdict on Scott Pilgrim isn't in yet. I always thought the very audience that would most want to see Scott Pilgrim would probably buy it on DVD or Netflix the thing. If it does exceptionally well in the home and rental market, it could yet end up being ultimately something of a success.

The amazing irony is that the reason why it isn't connecting with a cross over audience seems to be, at least in my experience, the characters are almost totally unrelateable to people outside the subculture. And that means if you aren't a fan of the work, and you can't connect with the characters, the movie is a bunch of random special effects with no story. Ponder that the next time someone says a big budget action film is just "pandering" to the stupid sheep movie going audience by just having dumb action stars blowing stuff up. What does it mean or matter if you write the smartest script in the world and its about characters so alien to the movie going audience that it might as well be about saguaro cacti.
Quoted again cause I think Arcanaville nailed it.

Errr on the chance of being flagged by Mod12 about political speak, all I'll say is blowing folks up usually don't wake them from their stupor, it actually makes them demand that those who control them do something about those that blew them up.

There are better ways to wake them from their stupor . . . such as getting rid of the water that's helping put them in that stupor.

Maybe she will. Or maybe she won't. Maybe Cleo is one of the actual good guys in the resistance, maybe Cleo has a bit of honour and dignity left in her. Maybe she'll just cut her losses and flee. Or maybe she'll attack me and force me to kill her. That's fine. It's still the same effect, but I still get to CHOOSE different.

Or maybe she'll prove to be the dirty Crusader that Washington thinks she is, run to her boyfriend and try to rat me out. Then I'll get jumped by the PPD and forced to find evidence to clear my name, eventually exposing her and either killing her or arresting her.

As I said countless times before in relation to City of Villain - I'm fine with facing consequences as long as I'm allowed to make the choice which causes them. I want to flip Arbiter Daos the birdie and help Ghost Widow defile the Red Widow. There are other ways to retain status quo and keep her a ghost. And I'm fine with being tossed into an Arachnos brig for it and having to break out. Several times, if need be. But, of course, the cop-out excuse is "they can just turn off the reclimators," which thankfully CoV seems to discount, if you believe Dr. Steffard.

Why am I always using someone else's reclimators, anyway? Why can't I dig myself a hole in the sewers where no-one knows about, steal myself a reclimator, buy myself a cold fusion generator and have my own hovel where I don't have to worry about spawning in a PPD cell or a Resistance brig? If this is about grey and grey morality, why can't I be allowed to make mistakes and suffer the consequnces? Why must I kowtow to this faction or that faction or that faction over there.

In fact, you know what I'd have liked to see? Option 1: Kill Cleo. Option 2: Kill Washington. Option 3: Kill 'em both and claim that's how you found 'em. But I can't, can I? Because which faction would that put me with? "Me?" Such a faction doesn't exist. And it should. I've been saying that for five years, and even the "City of Ambivalence" expansion STILL doesn't let me work for myself without being somebody's dog of war.
Agreed Sam, but what you need to realize is that "working for yourself" IS NOT AN OPTION in Praetoria. You are either resistance, or loyalist. You could be neither . . . but then you better not play any arcs.

I NEVER expected working for yourself to be an option in a universe/city that is basically in a state of open and clandestine war. Just saying.

I think this is ALSO one of the key issues. Every time pvp comes up many pvpers say "just form a team". I OFTEN laugh because I can count the number of in-game friends I have who are interested in pvp on one hand. Before pvp it was maybe about 2-3 more than that number.

I agree with the poster above that tangible rewards on REASONABLE timers (not what currently exists in game and certainly NOT rewards that you don't need to engage in pvp EVER to attain--looking at the silliness of shivans and nukes and how they are "pvp" rewards when I don't need to fight ANYONE EVER to get them) for losing and winning (ofcourse less for losing) is what is needed . . . you know besides getting rid of the MANY ASININE I13 pvp rules.

I don't think you mean to call what you want fatalities.

There'd have to be blood in this game for their to be "traditional" MK fatalities. Which isn't EVER going to happen in a game that's not rated M and has no wish to be rated M.

Now special effects like super combo finishers from the Marvel VS Capcom series sure! But only if I had the option of turning them OFF.

Also if you don't care if people agree with your suggestion on the forums, why on earth would you ever post it on the forums? It would actually be faster to send it directly to a dev via PM. The suggestions I've made in the past I've actually gotten a response from a dev via PM, and NEVER EVER in a forum post. Just my advice.

Giving mobs tons of DoT AoE damage that essentially neuters Stalkers.

You mean those watered-down not-even-as-good-as-the-tier-1-versions-other-ATs-get powers? Those? Oh yeah, and don't get me started on the "improved" version of Focused Accuracy.

Do people still play Kheldians? I haven't played my PB in over 4 years. It's just too painful.

I'm not looking to start a flame war, I'm just expressing my cautious optimism. I hope I'm wrong and this change comes with absolutely no strings attached.
I'm not looking to start a flame war, but you're grasping at straws with those things you listed being things we paid for.

Also I'd like a PATCH note for when mobs were given more DOT AOE at the same time that stalkers got buffed.

    New n00bs

Bill is awesome and 100% correct.

At no time in this game's history has "we need a healer" (let alone two ROTFL) been the correct answer to anything.

    buffs/debuffs/control ftw.

EDIT: When the "powers" dev says that what players do with buffs/debuffs stacking trivializes (paraphrasing) content (hint: he didn't say heals) then that tells you something.
