That'd mean it'd take 160 hours to unlock say, interface, leaving you with 10 threads left over. It'd then take another 240 hours to slot that with a tier 1. (3 EM > 60 Threads, 20 for each common component)

So, solo only, to unlock Interface and slot it with a Reactive, it would take 400 hours and 75m influence. Granted you wouldn't be playing those 400 hours, it'd be 18 days. Considering you could probably get the same done in what... 3-4 trials, which take much less than that? It'd be a bit of a slog.
Given that breakdown, I'd find that one A Merit = 1 E Merit to be quite fair, and just leave Astrals out of it.

Shield is not an SG since most of the people in it are not supers.

There were 5 original X-Men, and 4 original Doom Patrol. MM's get 6 henchmen. What defines an SG?

In this game SG Leaders fight along side their SG, so I'm comfortable saying the definition of an SG doesn't matter anyway. This is just an illogical argument from people who don't want MMs as Heroes.

It'd be nice if they redid the architecture in one section of Skyway to be chinatown-like and moved the Tsoo from Steel, or just added them there.

And I love the ideas in this thread, both those based on the original and the thread jacks.
  4. What Sharker is referring to is called the Standard Code Rant on these boards. You may be a good programmer, but for all we know CoH is written in uncomment spaghetti code and the section that this would have to be added to was done by someone no longer with Paragon Studios. Unless of course you've SEEN the code for CoH you have no more idea than I do how difficult it would be to add this feature anywhere, let alone where you suggest it. Now please, let's let this drop so the thread does NOT get derailed.

I have no desire to derail this thread either. I think this is an excellent idea and I would love to see it implemented. I think you have suggested it in the most logical place. Indeed, I hope this is easy to do and we see it in the next couple of issues.

    Flight Charm

I have been wanting this for a while now.

I find it very incongruous to have my Magic themed and origined characters sprout this mechanical object from their backs and in a burst of chemical flame go zipping off.

I've wished for a broom for some, but any not-blatantly-technical flight method for the early levels would do.

Correct on the first two, wrong on the 3rd.

I GOT my level shifts, but am not going to be using them for a bit (probably till i21) since I have other characters to Incarnate (if I can find the time). It would have been nice to be able to get the benefit from one of them (in addition to the Alpha which I can enjoy anywhere) earlier so I could enjoy it for the other 3/4 of the grind to the 2nd one.

I stopped right after getting my T3s in all 4 (5 if you count the Alpha slot) Incarnate slots because I was tired of grinding, I have limited time, and I would like to have at least one hero and one villain reasonably Incarnated on each of the 3 servers I play on. All of my 50's currently have T3s in Alpha, and most will progress to T4 (one may already have done so) as I continue to play them on and off.

IOW I didn't stop because I got the level shifts, I stopped because I got the T3 in the last power I needed it in at the moment.

The T4 is, in many cases, just not worth the effort. Thirty+ Empyrean Merits for a Very Rare salvage on top of everything two T3s for the marginal benefit increase.... meh. It'll happen when it happens. I'm not going to endlessly grind the same 2 (soon 3) trials for it.

And I give the price in E Merits because the devs "participation" + "random" roll is still screwy. Some characters I get Rares and VRares all the time, others.... well one poor MM is more likely to get 10 threads than anything else. And that just ticks me off because he's very powerful in normal content, and is constantly laying traps or giving orders to the bots in the iTrials. But that's another story.

And as an added bonus it gives Villains more access to the Shard.

Howabout whichever one you get the T3 in first sets the level shift to its diagonal opposite.

So if you get your T3 in Interface first you will have to get your other level shift from Lore. If Judgement first, then Destiny.

The level shifts don't take that long to get. What does take a while to get is the Tier 4's, those take much longer to obtain than unlocking Destiny&Lore and slotting the Tier 3's which give the level shifts. And even if you get the Tier 4's, Issue 20.5 is bringing a bunch of new reasons to do the trials.

In other words, by the time you get the level shifts, you still have a LOT of time to spend in the Incarnate trials.

Edit: If the incarnate trials are repetitive and boring, that's a different problem altogether and has no relation to the OP's suggestion.
As you noted, the Incarnate trials are repetitive and boring. Which is why I have stopped with my T3s, as I believe most sane people have. This is the POV I am coming from, and I believe the OP is as well though they haven't directly stated it.

I'm OK with a compromise such as the solution Bill and I are kicking around above.

Then you've missed the point the OP is trying to make. Those level shifts (Destiny & Lore) are ONLY available in the Incarnate trials. The OP wants to enjoy those level shifts, but (unspoken) I imagine they are as sick of grinding the same two trials for Incarnate rewards as I am. Therefore, they are not playing in the trials as much since they got their level shifts.

Sure, they'll get to use them later, but when you get a new shiney you want to use it NOW. Moving at least one of them to Judgement or Interface would allow the player to enjoy that level shift while still making progress towards the current additional Incarnate rewards.

Frankly, I haven't even gone back to run TMII or Apex since I got my level shifts. And that IS something I'd like to do, but my time is extremely limited at present.

And when Mystic Fortune was introduced, I was very enthused!!! I would suggest at least one other power besides 'Roulette' that has a random nature. I like the idea of a randomized debuff.

Perhaps 'Snake Eyes' could offer a chance for a random debuff or effect:
    + chance of knockdown
    + chance of confusion
    + Chance of slow...

Great suggestion..I think Probability Distortion set would go over well in-game
Should the chance for KD be once every 10 sec for 30 sec? Or just a one time deal?

I'd love to see this get some more attention.

And this is, IMO, the biggest reason. For some bizarre* reason MM secondaries cost a LOT more End the Corruptor secondaries. If your henchies die in the fighting and you've been using your secondary at all you will probably not be able to resummon them and buff them.

And, as has been pointed out, that's the MM's HP that's being summoned. Many powersets get a self heal in combat, but none of them eat the entire End bar.

*Yes, I get the reason. The theory is that the MM's henchies are doing the fighting, so to balance the MM's End usage they are heavily penalized by secondary powerset usage. Unfortunately they are also heavily penalized by summoning and rebuilding, so I strongly feel the devs are "double dipping" against the MM's ability to fight effectively.

The fact that a league cannot simply start the trial without joining the turnstile is an unequivocal sign the intent is for the trials to bring together everyone that wants to run the trial at that time.

BAF and Lambda are instanced Hives, not instanced task forces. You can be exclusive if you work at it, but the game's not currently going to help you do it. The person playing the game as intended is the player that joined the turnstile. The team leader who kicked them was frankly playing the game as a dick. I cannot imagine what was so important that the leader felt compelled to kick a single player just trying to enjoy the trials. One more person more or less is not going to change the dynamic of the trial at all if they were not being specifically abusive. I definitely would not stand for it on any trial run I was on.
This disallows players from attempting to run an 8 man Lambda or 16 man BAF if they choose to. Since we have no difficulty settings on these trials how else would you recommend we attempt to raise the difficulty level?

Case in point: We did a 9 man Lambda today, one team of 8 and a PUGger added by the "turnstile". (Note: We did not kick the PUGger.)

In defense of your position, I would certainly NOT want to see people w/o SGs or Coalitions locked out of these trials due to elitism. (I hate elitism and I'm better than everyone else because I do! :P ) OTOH, the person who is feeling rejected CAN start their own trial.

Nevertheless, this is yet another argument in favor of creating Incarnate content for smaller groups (e.g. 1-4 players).

No, you pay $15/month to PLAY the game. Anything you get in an update is gravy. It just so happens that Paragon Studios has a generous update policy. Some games you have to PAY for every update. We've had 2 expansions (CoV, GR) you had to pay to get, and if you didn't pay you could get one of them 2+ years after it was released for free.

An expansion I might add that contained a LOT of costume parts. No doubt GR will be free in a couple of years as well, and you can have all of THOSE costume parts (Alpha, Omega, Praetorian Police, Resistance) for free.

Purchasable pets, in-game-items, special campaigns, powers, etc... could all be placed in the NC store. I would probably buy loads of stuff and I'm sure other people would too. No cost other than development time and pure profit for CoH/V its a win-win.
No. Absolutely not. I have purchased every SuperBooster and other addon on one account, and about half of them on another. I like what NCSoft does with the money (increase dev headcount to swat bugs and add new features).

That "other game", the one run by the disreputable company owned by a complete jerk, is NOT what I want to play, nor is it how I want to pay for my MMO.

Earn your advantages IN GAME, not by throwing money at the company, thank you.

In addition to the above objections, taking out of game actions to gain an in-game advantage is known as "cheating" in most games. And I certainly don't want to have to pay for a new AT, or pay for specific new zones that my friends/guild might not buy and I would be unable to experience those areas with them. And lets not fragment the community, shall we?

    Laser Rifles

    I like it.

It should be a PEAT (Praetorian EAT), unlocked when you get someone to 20 in Praetoria.

You could give 2 of the branches you suggest to Resistance and 2 to Loyalists, although that somewhat defeats what you've tried to do here.
  21. Pardon me for saying so, but I think people already glow so much with all the powers and auras that this could be overlooked, especially if people are standing in a crowd.

So how about just changing their color in the League display? Make the Pacification grenades give them a bright red background and Acid give them a bright yellow. I am not talking about the pastel colors that the League window currently is, but make them STAND OUT.

If you didn't notice he did include an Inf sink, something the game is sorely lacking in.

You could have a scaling cost based on how many Enhs you put into Purgatory. Just to pull numbers out of the air, 1-10 Enhs in Purgatory = 100k each to get them out. 11-15 could be 250K, etc, etc.

There are exceptions, but those people have learned to play nicely with others. Just as my Storm/Energy Defender has learned to play nicely with others.

Being a team player means knowing WHERE to pull the spawn to if you have KBers on the team (i.e. near a wall, or better yet into a corner). Being a team player means not running off to the next spawn and leaving the squishies to deal with the 5 mezzing bosses you leave behind every time.
