/signed, as with every one of these threads. I'm really getting tired of being logged out randomly.

I would say, based on your input, to go for the Recharge one. Sure, it may not do much good at the Tier 1 or 2 stage, but later on, it could be a nice boost to your longer-recharging powers, or powers that just don't have a lot of Recharge slotted in them already.
The other option is to build for Endurance, to lessen the number of times you need to waste time hitting Consume. Of course, if you're doing that, then you're getting the DamRes as a bonus, not the main thing you're shooting for. -
However, I do love the confusion they cause with me. Hmmm... a thread about Threat? I'll have to check that out. Wait a second, I posted in this thread? What the heck? I don't remember that! When was this...two years ago!?!?! Holy hell!

Quote:It's going to depend on the Mod, most likely, as well as the subject matter. Common subjects are likely to get Modded faster than subjects that rarely, if ever, come up. Also, if you're keeping it on topic, it might still be useful to people to ask clarifications on.The forum rules and guidelines state:
But what is considered "considerably older"? I've seen two threads bumped today - one was about two months old and it got locked. The other one was five months old and is still open at the time of this writing.
The first thread had veered off-topic and it made sense for it to be closed, but the 5-month-old thread was still on topic. I considered posting in the 5-month old thread because it's an interesting topic, but I don't want to break any forum rules by doing so.
On top of that, it depends on if anyone actually reports the thread for notice. If the Mods don't know about something, they can't exactly read every thread on the boards just looking for stuff.
Thirdly, it also depends on the manner in which is was brought back up. If it's just done randomly, for no apparent purpose, it's likely to get locked. If, however, someone brings back a thread saying something like, "Sorry to bring this up, but this is the first thread that came up in my search on subject X," I bet the Mods will be a little more lenient. -
Quote:This is kinda my feel on it, too. It's pretty easy to type a "sorry for bringing this thread back up, but it was the first one I could find on subject X."alternately, you can just look at the date before you reply.
or, having replied, say "my bad" when folk point out the necro.
either of which are more reasonable than demanding the forums be retrofitted to safeguard you from making easily avoidable mistakes.
I can buy that there aren't many posts on some subjects, so a search might turn up an older thread that you want some clarification on. But it's the 2+ year old threads that get brought back with no explanation that really irk me. -
Thanks for reposting. The dark red against the dark blue of the hero-side forum skin just meant that all of your slotting was running together for me. I could read it, but it was very difficult.
I'd say that your build is very solid. I only have very minor suggestions for you:
1) Taunt: Unless you plan on PvPing, this doesn't need any Acc. I'd say replace it with a RechRed, or Taunt Duration enhancement. Acc is doing nothing for you in PvE.
2) I would try to add another slot to Stamina. I know that with the Cardiac Alpha slot, you're getting more EndRed in your powers, but on the way up, you're going to be sucking wind with all of those AoEs, same if you exemplar ever. Your build seems very reliant on the cardiac slot to help with endurance worries, which you won't always have. -
Any chance you could change the colors? That is very, very hard to read.
-
A side benefit of this combo is that Shield's Taunt Aura doesn't do damage, so you can actually make use of Frozen Aura's sleep effect.

First off, understand that it's not 20% resistance, it's 20% of the value of the powers in question. They are also subject to varying amounts of ED. As such, Let's look at the value of it.
Fire Shield:30% S/L Resistance, 30% Fire, 10% Cold
Plasma Shield: 30% to E/NE/F
Tough: 15% S/L
So, totals give you 60% Fire Res, 45% S/L, 30% E/NE, and 10% Cold.
Slotting these with three even-level SOs gives you a 56% bonus to these, bringing them up to 93.6% Fire (capped at 90%), 70.2 S/L, 46.8 E/NE, and 15.6% Cold.
Let's add a tier 2 Cardiac Boost. It gives 20% Resistance. However, only 1/3rd of this bypasses ED. As such, you're only going to be getting about a 10% additional Resistance bonus from this Alpha.
This will bring your totals up to: 99.6% Fire (capped at 90%), 74.7% S/L, 49.8 E/NE, and 16.6% Cold.
As such, where it matters, you're only getting a slight resistance increase from the Alpha slot if you go for the Resistance Bonus.
Just something to think about. -
People quote what you said, even if it might be right under your post, to show what they are replying to. Because, while I'm replying to you, 14 other people might be as well, and I have no idea who my post might look like I'm responding to once I'm done. It's pretty common practice.
Quote:So, basically, you want a character that never, ever needs any support. How would that be balanced with the other ATs?anyway. For example. A fire fire brute can solo just fine when fighting CoT at high lvls. Jump in the middle of the mob. make sure to use healing flames if you get damaged to much "death mage = painful time" and pump out that super fast killing power. A SS/Inv brute can run down some Nemesis most of the time as well as a range of other VGs. not as strong on the psionics as WP. And the typical Stonner can stand in the middle of a few mobs and laugh. And yet most of the time you kinda find yourself need support for so many little things. Stonners need the most support. "Run, recharge, damage" all that could come to an end with incarnate. but like i said either its heals, extra damage, debuffs, endurance, endurance, more endurance. lets face it. if you wanna rely on your toggles you're gonna need some endurance.
Quote:I'm not saying I want the Monk to be able to Solo 5 AVs at the same time. I'm just saying with the steady decline of low lvl teams "1-40" it would be nice to be able to have some passive powers.
Quote:all in all its just something my friends and i have thought up. Rather then using 3 bil to create a solo "tank, burte, or scrapper"
So I'm wondering what it is you really want. Because if your intent is to create an AT that can solo at +4/+8 without any IOs or support, I think that is a little unrealistic. -
Quote:The Devs were on record in around I6 release saying that ED would allow them to do create new systems that would allow the characters to become more powerful, something that would be highly imbalanced without ED. This was later confirmed to be the invention system.*blink* nothing wrong with everything else in your post, but... no. The point behind Enhancement Diversification was to 'force' people to diversify their enhancement slotting - slot more than just Acc/dam/dam/dam/dam/dam in every attack power (or in some fringe cases like /devices blasters, slotting 6*dam, and have targeting drone pick up the slack).
I really don't think the ED in issue 6 was brought about by the inventions in issue 9. -
Windows 7 requires a lot more RAM to run than XP ever did. How much RAM do you have on your computer?
-
I don't get how you can think that Scrappers and Brutes aren't solo machines right now. They have enough Defenses to survive incoming damage, and can put out impressive damage themselves. What more do you want?
-
The KB Mag does indeed affect KB distance. Some powers have very high mag knockback, for the express purpose of knocking things back a decent amount. Reducing those to KD with the ability to enhance would make them far less valuable, even fully enhanced. I know that you mention those powers which need to remain KB, but I think you'll find that people's response on which powers those are would change from person to person.
-
I highly doubt this will happen. Why? Because this would cause most knockdown effects by melee classes to become knockback, which tends to be undesireable for melee. Put it into something that would otherwise help the character (or already is, especially), and you're going to have a lot of annoyed players.

Quote:Even if they did allow for origin respecs, I'd still be fairly mad. I mean, my namesake character is based off of an Ice Demon from Norse mythology. He was summoned by Circle mystics, and escaped because they made a mistake in the summoning circle. He's a magic origin. He just is. But the 1-2% Defense would help him much more than the magic bonus. So, I'd have to choose between having an origin that makes sense but is sub-optimal, or changing origin to something that doesn't make sense to get the bonus I want.It doesn't really matter how "small" these bonuses might be or not. That's not really the point here.
If Devs reworked Origins to actually provide in-game bonuses like this without the ability to "respec" our Origins then yes, I would be relatively upset. Probably not upset enough to quit the game over it, but the fact that a choice I made SEVEN YEARS ago might lead to ramifications such as this is fairly unacceptable all thing considered. Why should the game allow a new character to have the benefit of factoring in this new feature but an old character not be able to?
This is precisely why the Devs have wisely chosen NOT to allow Origins to provide these kinds of bonus. I'd rather be able to roleplay ANY Origin on any character without having to worry about whether or not I'm taking full advantage of any in-game benefits. Had these bonuses existed since April, 25 2004 then this idea would not be such an issue. But adding in this new twist almost 7 years later? Why bother at this point?
Arcs which you can do for flavor, but don't really restrict anyone, are fine in my opinion. I think it would be fun to have single-origin arcs in the game (especially since others could tag along to see them, in case they only make characters of a certain origin, which I've seen on the boards once or twice). However, bonuses and penalties to character stats based on origin is a bad idea, IMO. -
Quote:What? Are you suggesting that the Devs give long-time players the ability to choose any two powersets and put them together one a character? If so, that kind of thing was done in the Alpha phase of this game, and it was horribly broken. You could either really create a gimp character with no offense (tougher to do if you're experienced, but still possible), or a character that was just horribly out of balance in favor of god-mode (say, a Fire Blast/Stone Armor character). The ATs were put in place to try to prevent this.or what if they gave the players that reach a certain point the ability to have open power selections it would not make anyone less social the game is boring with out teaming
The amount of rebalancing of powersets that would need to be done to allow for open power selection would drive most existing players away, I think. -
Also, to the OP, if you're coming from other games, you may find yourself wondering if this game is empty. It's not, it's just deceiving. Much of this game is in Instances, and so you won't see many people at once in the wide world. Those you do see there will either be on their way to a mission, leveling up, going to contacts to get new missions, or just generally hanging out. Most of the people "doing stuff" will be in instances.
So don't let this fool you. Joining a good Super group, or even better, a global channel (check out your server's global channels in the server-specific forums below for some good ones) will let you communicate with friendly people where ever they are. -
First off, welcome to the game!
As to whether or not the game is good, I certainly think so! I've been here since August 2004, and having a blast the entire time. However, it's going to be very subjective. As such, give it a try, and if you like it, stay. If you don't, find something else that you do find fun!
Yes, you can join what you would know as a guild or clan. We call them supergroups here, though, but it's mainly a semantic difference.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or join the Mentor Project (found at the top of the Player Questions section here). They're a good group of people who are very interested in helping new players out. -
It depends on how much damage is incoming. That's the point. You can compare theoretical amounts of Defense and Resistance and see how well they'd do against varying amounts of incoming damage. But as soon as you start discussing Regen, you need to know a set amount of damage that is coming in before you can really see how it will be effective.

The "Top Builds" have definitely changed since 3-4 years ago. A LOT of changes have occurred over that time, including Enhancement Diversification, Inventions, Going Rogue, CoV, various AT and powerset modifications, and other random changes here and there.
I would strongly recommend checking out ParagonWiki, and poking around there, but definitely feel free to ask any specific questions here if you want to. -
Soooo....fire's no good?
Fire it is! Thanks guys! Now just need to get the color scheme down right on the powers. -
Quote:1) You never said in your first post that they would have attacks. Don't be surprised when people can't understand what you're thinking if you don't put it down. Nothing you were saying about them in the first post made it seem like they could solo.deflectors can indeed solo, the will do some damage, and infact with thier negative taunt and enemy deflection powers they can make enemies stand there helplessly while they do it. sorta like a controller but more like a widow. simply with negative taunt they can;t be selected as an attack target.
2) the Devs will NEVER give an AT the ability to attack with absolutely no chance of return fire, which is what you're suggesting.
3) I don't think that you really understand how threat works in this game, nor how modifying the Threat formula to account for -Threat would allow huge exploits into the game.
Quote:Destroyer, yeah it's a blaster with armor, it had to be a little hindered in order to not be god modding.. Damage types; they will be resistant to fire cold energy ETC. and have such defense, so everything except smashing lethal will be some what filtered. maybe allowing them to get pool melee attacks would be ok.
Quote:On the executor (meant like the guy who runs the guillotine) notes, Very valid points, maybe they should at least get full status effect res and def in their primary attack set.
And yeah, being all melee damage is fine, right up until the point where you get hit with anything.
