  1. No thanks.

There are some decent third party team chats out there - use those.

But please don't add a tool to this game that others will "demand" I use, even when I don't want to do so. I hate listening to the sound of my own voice, and I also think that hearing the voices of others who don't match my mental picture of how the character should sound would take some enjoyment away from the game for me.

And frankly, there really isn't much in the game that requires tight coordination of a team provided by teamspeak.
  2. I use the Mekman on Sci/Tech/Natural characters and the baby demon on Magic/Mutants. The others are kinda fugly, especially the Redcaop and the Rikti monkey.

That's when I even remember to redeem them. And about half the time, I forget to redeem the 48 month buffing pets.
  3. Just to clarify - you got the Tech Booster Pack, which had the Self Destruct power and the Cyborg costume pieces, which are found individually on the costume creator under the various sections like "Chest", "Gloves", etc?

You are not talking about a character that had the PPD Police or Freakshow or other Halloween Event Temporary power? If that's the issue, the only way to get that on a new character is to hurry up and take that new character Trick or Treating before the event ends.

And you aren't talking about a character who had collected Vanguard Merits and purchased the individual Vanguard pieces from the RWZ? To get those on a new character, you have to earn the merits on *that* character.

In both the second and third case, those are individual to the character and do not transfer.

In the first case, others have suggested where to look.

Appearance matters. The beautiful thing about this game is the costume, and that my "epic gear" (enhancements) don't make me look colour blind or like a ******.
Hello - female (IRL) player here and I agree with Aett.

And there are tons of costume combinations that don't make you look color blind or like a ****** - even without Boxing Shorts & Samurai Armor.

(BTW - what effect do VR costume pieces have on your personal color sense? They do not dictate only certain color combinations be used and preclude the use of others that might make the eyes bleed.)
  6. I have to bow out as well - sorry, family stuff.

See you next week (I hope)!

    Any QA Left?

OK, after following this thread for a couple of days and wracking my brain - what were these game-breaking bugs that come thru in the last patch?

I've been playing the game as per normal and haven't seen anything to warrant massive complaints or even minor whining.

Ok we already have two builds available to us right? Well, lets expand on that. My idea is that when you get to 50 you unlock a new build. But this is a special build. This build will start over at lvl 1 and allow you to choose a new powerset to use. NOTE: This would not be like now where the levels between your builds are the same, the new build would start at lvl1 again. Also, when that build hits 50 you get to choose a new build, and ect. Thus, this would allow you to expand upon your heros current abilities without cheating the system.
How is this different from just starting out another character?

    Please expand.

Sure I get influence, sidekick a new player, or redo other missions but even that gets tiresome after awhile. I feel a sense of foreboding when my toon hits 40 because I know I won't be able to enjoy them anymore once they get 50 (really 49 IMO). I didn't realize that that I was the minority in this opinion. If most of the players like it at 50, then it should stay that way.
So what you are really looking for is new ways to have fun with a level 50 character.

I'm not the best person to help with this because I have only a single 50 (another character is hovering at level 49.7), but here's a link to another thread over in City Life discussing ways to make the game new & different to a player without adding anything at all:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=197345
    Hope it helps.

My personal solution is to take an extreme amount of time getting to 50, making lots of alts to try stuff again, and also being part of a regulr TF group on Saturdays to play my level 50 Blaster. Even lower level TFs are so much more fun now with SSK - and we run them completely, very little stealthing, and take time to read the storyline.

Buff bot is a terrible way to play any character, even when you have a powerset with per-ally buffs to cast.

Both of these adequately sum up my feelings about the OP.

Me, I play Defenders that have ally buffs and blast stuff in between (or even instead of buffing if the team is already strong enough to face the challenge).

I play Corruptors that may serve a buff/debuff role - or they may be blasting. They certainly will be doing at least a little bit of both, no matter what the team.

Kind of a theme going, hmmm?

I will never play a "buffbot".

Every time these Veteran's Rewards discussions come up, this is the point that is constantly ignored - many people (and the vast majority of those speaking against any change in the program) never had to wait for many of the benefits. They acquired them the day they were added to the game engine, or soon thereafter. They never had to wait a year and a half to get wings, or three years to get shorts. They received the benefits as soon as they were made available in the game, like free issues only for veterans.

"Just wait your turn" completely ignores the fact that most people telling me to wait my turn never had to wait for theirs. They got in on opening day.

And I am just talking about costumes (and base decorations) here. In a game whose biggest draw is customisation - and whose biggest direct competitor is trying to boast on having more customisation - cutting off large swaths of your potential customers from any aspects of that customisation is simply bad business.
Just because a large number of players got multiple VRs the day they rolled out does not mean that those players did not have to "wait" for them. In fact several of them (costume pieces like trench coats & wings) were requested over and over and over again all throughout the first 2 years of the game before VRs were instituted. We waited throughout those 2 years of asking for them.

I'm not quite a 5 year veteran, only 57 months. When VRs rolled out, I most certainly DID NOT get all of them, only the ones I had earned up to that point in time. I will always be slightly behind the leading edge - where I should be since I was slightly behind the leading edge in starting to play the game.
  12. Yes, as of Issue 13, rent is based off functional items, not off plot size, so it looks like you are operating using old info.

Here is the stickied thread from here in this forum detailing the changes that came in that Issue (thanks to PlasmaStream for authoring it).

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=126110

Of course, the other thing you will notice from her thread is that rent costs plummeted, so even a base with the max amount of storage still only costs 1800 Prestige in rent. And considering that a single character can get that much Prestige in short order, then you can see that "rent-less" is pretty much no longer a goal to plan your base around.

    This.

Many players returning from a long absence (per your post, from back when the game first came out) can benefit from just starting fresh to get a handle on the various mechanics of the game.

And since we have so many slots available, don't immediately delete your old characters - they may not be as messed up as you think they are. Or at least, after relearning the mechanics of the game with your alts, you will have a better idea of what you want to change.
  16. For a Blaster - look at these:

Ice/Ice - almost overkill for "safety" (at least for a Blaster), with Slows and Holds. I actually found it a bit boring, so mine is only in the teens.

Fire/Ice - I found this more fun because you get the big flashy Fire Blasts with the controls from Ice Manipulation. I have one in the high 30s right now.

Sonic/Energy - Sonic debuffs, Energy has an early Build-up and some handy KB to keep them out of your face. I also have one of these in the high 30s.

Fire/Energy - Big flashy blasts with KB for soft controls. This combo I have in the upper 20s.

For a Defender - Either Rad or Dark as the Primary, for some self-buffs & enemy debuffs. For the Secondary, either match Rad to Rad or Dark to Dark - or mix them up with one of each. I have also matched Ice Blast up with the Dark Primary for a fun character.

I have fewer characters redside, so I'm not much help there, sorry.
  17. Sign up Eris Starchilde, level 26 (?) Dark/Ice Def.

I'm pretty sure I got to level 26 yesterday.

The Midnighter's contact is in the University at Steel Canyon, you should see him in your Contacts window.

You get introduced (via a popup window from Montague Castanella) at about level 10-12. You can do the intro arc early in the teens - which is great if you want that day job, netting you extra arcane drops. I just finished it on a level 18 blaster, who would have done it earlier except she ran a Posi TF that sped her past it.
  20. An "Eyes Only" broadcasting via undrnet - very clever.
  21. Magic the most (I have the beginner Hero Magic arc practically memorized) and Science the least (I have more difficulty coming up with a bio for a Science character that isn't really better done as Tech).

Most of your costume ideas have been suggested before - SexyJ has a whole thread dedicated to costume ideas, which he reads every day.

As far as coloring Travel Powers - BaBs is on record somewhere as saying that he wasnot able to get to customizing any of the Pool Powers for I16, but that they are on his list, so that will happen sooner or later.

Flight Auras can probably be done using a keybind and the existing auras available at level 30. I haven't tried it myself, but it should work.

Rocket Packs - not currently feasible because there isn't an attachment point on the back to place them. Have you ever seen the Mayhem/Safeguard Raptor Pack on a Huge body type (it's buried in the back) or on a tiny character (it floats out from the body). Again - often asked for.

BBQPork already laid out some potential problems with your idea for alternate animations for the source for Blasts, etc. They are all valid points. Some of ToySoldierZolgar's observations about the animation difficulties for scabbards & sheaths applies to alternate power animations. Obviously, it can be done, since we now have alternate animations for MA & Super Strength. But not very "easy".

I held off from first responding to your suggestions because I really didn't want to say it - but "Search" would have found most of the ideas already discussed, particularly all the costume ideas in SexyJ's stickied thread at the top of this forum.

  24. Agreed with the others who advised you that you were in the wrong neighborhood. The zone "Croatoa" is made up of neighborhoods like "New Connaught", "Misty Woods", Devil's Teeth", etc.

New Connaught has rather few Fir Bolg, and the line between it and the next neighborhood is not clear and is way too easy to cross.
