I have not played BAF or Lambda as yet, I do have three Alpha'd 50's one of which is a PB.
My experience is I bring damage to the team. Oft as not I am the only AOE when I run the weekly TF and this brings a lot of damage with it.
Mostly I play my tri-form. If there are a couple controller/dominator types I may play my human build - it is still mostly SO's and not IO'd like my tri-build.
With cosmic balance on a nice team I am a flying AOE machine with 40%-60% (or more) damage resistance. Meaning I need very little support or healing even if I manage to pull agro (as aoe tends to do). With that DR, I also get a damage buff and some mez protection.
If I am pulling agro or things go bad I can always get 85% damage resistance by going dwarf - that's 85% before buffs or cosmic balance.
From time to time things go sour and I have taken over for the down tank or held agro on a second spawn pulled by mistake. With the recharge buff from my alpha my single target heal cycles pretty quickly -- I have also been the sole healer a time or two, not fun but we got the job done.
So, ya, versatility is the word.
All that said, it is harder for a Kheld to be "uber" at damage rather then just very good or decent. We used to be more effective at tanking and the build in fly once was much better then regular fly (imo) -- before movement suppression.
When you had to be 50 to get a Kheld people would also think better of you because you had experience with the game (including the late game).
Us Khelds could defiantly use some tweaking for 'balance' reasons we are not however, completely broken or useless.
Giving PB's another pet to replace photon seekers, something more like Voltaic Sentinel with no duration, or three sentinels with a 1 min duration would help quite a bit.
In fact, make VS white and glowey, replace charged bolt with gleaming bolt and with (perhaps increased recharge) times Proton Scatter and/or Solar Flares and/or Pulsar.
With my human or scrapper-ish build I bring a melee toon with 85% damage resist, and two self heals, self buffs, control, if slotted correctly some decent debuffs.
Most PB powers debuff defence, with procs a lot more can be done, like the unique -acc proc that can go in pulsar and be fired off reasonably often.
Biggest issue I have with the human build is endurance. More IO's will fix that (or /Kin /rad /emp /etc.)
So er ya, we bring our wonderful selves full of game knowledge, experience and we bring tricks and the ability to jump roles as needed. -
I got the impression that Shards are more of a single player tool to advance and threads are team/raid rewards to advance.
As such I dont see a problem with them coexisting. Many people like to be able to complete just about everything on their own one way or another.
It wont be fast, you could however, get all your slots and fill them just running tips and radio missions. -
Quote:That could be part of a new trial, right? Deal with several thousand level 2 mind controlled citizens. Or maybe several hundred thousand level 2 sewer rats boiling up out of all those grates. So check this out; the purple patch isn't working correctly against -50s.
My Widow is +1 level shifted, and against level 2 Hellions her brawl does 210 damage. But against level 1 Hellions it does 35. My Void Judgement has a base damage of 621 damage. Against level 2 Hellions it does over 3700 damage. Against level 1s it does 621 damage.
It's treating -50s as if they were +0. They even have 18%-39% to hit rolls against me, despite being 50 levels lower than me. When one shot me with his pistol, it did 5 damage.
Anyway, I'm off to see if my level 50+1 incarnate can get killed by level 1s. -
I have a gtx 580 and run 1920-1200, I cant put everything all the way up, most things most of the way up I can however do.
Lets see you have about 77% the pixels and about 94% of the Cuda cores. So you should be able to do a bit better then me.
I get best performance in the classic areas of the game, basically blue side, red side does OK and gold side outside it a lot harder on the gpu. Just about anything inside is great.
I have found running in compatibility mode for XP causes some problems with frame rates and some animations will turn the system into a slide show.
AA/AF do take their toll. I dont know if I am running into a CPU limitation or GPU memory wall but going over 4x AA can be painful in newish areas of the game. With world events like Rickti/Zombies or some graphically intense teams I occasionally need to back down my settings.
Anyhow, in short, the card should do well for you. -
What resolution is the main monitor - sorry if I missed it - that will determine how aggressive you can set the ultra mode options.
-
I have 8 gigs of ram. My hard drive is reasonably fast.
Load times used to be so much shorter. Even just to start the game up takes a while now. -
Well maybe not literally, it is seeming like it. Is something going on?
I remember an official post some short while back about a fix, I dont recall my load or zone times getting better or back to previous levels. -
Quote:Back in the dawn days, you know before the controller nerfs and ED, I would get some controller hate both mission teams and TF's. At the same time I got anti-hate with my PB. I was heavily sought as a team mate. Being a kheld meant you had a 50 and knew what was going on.I don't bother with IO's set or common, until I get past lvl 40. The soonest I do it it lvl 37. The sheer cost of it is insanity sometimes. Particularly the bits you need.
Ive been refused access to TF's but mainly that was due to not having the right Archytype they needed. Not because I didn't have sets.
Both controllers and defenders could have trouble finding teams if they were not Empathy, I still see bits and pieces of that here and around, for the most part it is gone, I hope that the "build police" will *not* rise like a zombie invasion. Fortunately there is no scoring system for set bonuses, AKA the Wow gear score many add ons will provide for you and anyone you click. I refused teams requests with gear minimums, usually being well above the req number. -
Quote:Virtue is ok, so far as I have witnessed otherwise, and people like that are not so hard to avoid -- sadly it takes one time dealing with them to get on their /ignore for not being 1337 enough.I could name names if that were allowed. I've definitely seen this behavior and, in one particular case, someone that plays on Virtue that posts frequently on the forums these days. I never ever team with these people, but the "bonus elitist" is very real. I have a feeling it happens less on servers other than Freedom and Virtue. In my own experience, playing on 4 servers frequently, it's only those 2 where I find that sort of elitism.
I have not played on freedom, except maybe to get someone to lvl 5 back in i1/2 days. I assume however it is a good overall server as well.
Perhaps due to size, more so I think due to cross server chat systems, COH is much better knit and, I dont know, polite/mature/help-full then other mmo's I have played. The various elitisms the less gifted players cling to, like the above mentioned Jerk thinking set bonuses really meant something useful in terms of predicting a character/player's effectiveness, I have, gladly, always seen much less of here then with other games (well except maybe RP-snobs on Virtue and it has been some years since I have dealt with or witnessed that).
Maybe that is why those incidents of puerileness, like the OP's information, stick out more, we are not desensitized, numb, or jaded from hours and days of 'Barrens Chat.' Or has it migrated with the new world? -
OP: Are things working for you?

Quote:My preferred method is with a lead pipe. (give me a smart *** answer when I ask for new tile sets at hero con 1 will you)Seriously. We've tried keeping the flames from him. He keeps regenerating.
We've tried ignoring the flames. He keeps regenerating.
We've tried piling on reds and pounding him. He keeps regenerating!
Is there something we've missed?
After the lead pip a variety of items should present its self starting with the even popular Two-by-Four.
If your looking to do this with a certain amount of zest and sting cheese graters and lemon juice should appeal to you.
Depending on party comp Posi can be fairly easy to fairly hard.
You could use envenomed daggers. Or get some Rad on Rad action going. -
Quote:That'll likely fix it.The information you mentioned is limited.
Keeping that in mind I'd still say that a modern win xp pc should accept Sp3 easily. Furthermore, I would do a clean install of Windows until the SP3 was accepted. I'd then do Windows Updates then install the latest drivers for my video card.
After the clean install I'd check the device manager to see if my card was recognized and also through each service pack installation.
(Note: Only adviseable if the card is in fact working properly)
Should it not, what OS? I am assuming XP? What vid card? What driver?
And a few details more from cohhelper or some-such. -
I think VS has much larger issues that need to be worked out.
As you say recoloring it is an easy fix.
Likely as a pet (gimped though it may be) the artwork is a bit off some how and needs special handling to recolor with a power set.
Lets see it either be able to stack or be semi-perm like controller pets. Both VS and the gun turret should be addressed. -
For my End starved fire/storm controller I have it slotted as follows:
Undermine Defenses, <def debuff> <def deb/rech/end> (def debuff/end>
common IO, <rech> <dam> <dam>
Besides the various damage procs and the uber Achilles proc, razzle dazzle has an immob proc which is nice - It helps tornado/spout stick on one target.
There are lots of ways to slot the power depending on what you want it to do.
Is it emergency crowd control? Extra damage? A debuff? For hard targets like AV's?
I even see people us it to pull groups.
Water Spout is a great power. -
Quote:Clever. I should set that up for a few things. Is there a way to put a branch or decision into what file loads?Even though I mentioned in that post that it works for me every time, some people still have issues with it working reliably.
To truly get the targeting to work, you can use a setup involving rotating bind files.
For example:
Repeat with identical files, substituting the 1s for 2-8 to include all 8 teammate positions.
That will reliably target the player on keypress, then cast/queue the power when you release the button. -
Quote:Let me check.... I installed the 270.51 earlier today. I haven't had the OpenGL crash problem like some, I was more interested in seeing if any better optimizations had come down the line. (COH doesnt perform as well as I think it should with ultra mode on)Those new drivers, 270.51 are getting pretty good feedback on guru3d. I've considered installin 'em. I think you will need to redo the global performance setting again after a new driver install.
My settings look the same, I dont write them down or anyhting, I know "single display mode" is not default and it is still set for me.
Some other games are showing improvements of 500% or more and I read this version of he driver and later will have an auto-update feature. -
Nvidia has a new beta driver out. 270.51 might be worth trying to see if it helps.

Seeing set bonuses shows IO's are in place. It does not mean it is a good build. Could be all Kinetic Crash which has wonderful set bonuses and is good in the right powers, not so good in all your attack powers.
Not seeing set bonuses does not prove you arent IO'd... you could be hyper franken-slotted for extreme efficiency with regards to slots / power. Something I am often tempted to do with my Peace Bringer so I can have more free slots available.
So, ya, guy was a huge dork.... -
Blizzard will do it for people if they can show ownership of both accounts or for situations like my little brother, son, daughter, other relative was using my account and now has their own.
Would be a nice feature to have available for those very same reasons. -
Weird. The only time I get that Oh Snap dialog is when i start a shutdown or reboot and then abort it.
It must have something to so with sockets closing or some other resource becoming unavailable.
What kind of firewall are you using? What OS, what router? -

Quote:Interesting. I missed that. Not a bug. That's why the captive has a question mark "Crey Captive?". The 'captive' is a Nemesis automaton.
I have seen text like that from NPC's enough times, times that were pretty clear that variables and code were exposed I just assumed it was one more. -
Quote:The original post stated is was broken across all environments. It has since been edited.First, I don't think /bug was broken on the Live servers. From the announcement, it looks like it was only broken on EU-test and NA-beta.
Second, I think that issue you described is one of many intended jokes planted by the Devs. That's the only way I could rationalize the alternating capitalization. lol
It could also be part of the story. The captive might be a robot or clone that is malfunctioning. It's not really an error with the mission text itself. It represents an "error" within the NPC itself.
And yes I did note the cap/not caps sequence. Which could be a bored programmer or a joke. It can be hard to tell. -
Quote:That may well be, however as COH does not run in a vacuum, OS, Drivers Etc all along side of it, some quite large, I can say the point of diminishing returns for available ram to still add a noticeable speed increase to the game is greater then 8 gigs. I believe the OP was asking taking his machine to 8 gigs, right? There gets a point where you won't be seeing any benefit from additional RAM. If the system is able to keep all the files it's regularly accessing cached in RAM, and the programs you're using have already reached their limit... you're not gonna benefit from more RAM.

Quote:Firstly, there is maintenance scheduled for EVERY Thursday morning.
Secondly, the fact that it would be extended was announced yesterday.
Then something went south and things diverged from plan at that point.
As of the time I got home and logged on, including up to right now, while I can play, the main page of the official COH site still says all servers are down for Extended Maintenance. This is some 5-7 hours after they were put back up.
This is the kind of slow/poor communication I am talking about. Patch notes often take 2-5 days or more to be updated on the main page, yes some thread somewhere often has them, thats not the same.
The know Issues page is 120 days out of date. There is at least one serious issue that should have been added for Intel/Nvida "Optimus" using clients. Others less serious as well.
I really like a lot of what is going on, today however, really points at some of the less efficient processes.
