All kidding aside, it does look a little like Gamera, in a "my skin is translucent and you can see my guts" kind of way. Which is a good thing.

Seriously though, the First Ward looks amazing and I can't wait for i21 so I can see it in (digital) person!
  3. I tried to read through this thread but after a while all the bickering got to me so I mostly just skimmed through, so I apologize if something similar has been brought up in an earlier post.

I can see both sides of this argument, both have legitimate points to make. Soloing for Incarnate abilities is extremely slow, but if you can (stand to) team for the iTrials it goes pretty quick. A middle ground is always difficult to find and we as players really don't know everything the devs have planned.

The devs have been working on the Incarnate system for a while. They have also said that they have been working on CoH: Freedom for about a year. They have also said that the Incarnate system is locked out to anyone who is not a VIP once Freedom is live.

It could be that somewhere down the road, perhaps even before Freedom goes live, their stance may change and they allow the purchase of the Incarnate system. They might at the very least allow the purchase of the Alpha Slot but end up keeping the rest of the Incarnate abilities locked to VIP's as a way to give F2P'ers a taste of the Incarnate system without giving it all away. If this is their plan, it may be easier to keep the Shard/Thread separation.

Perhaps one thing could be done to help out the solo player and that would be to somehow make the Shard drop rate increase as the player increases their Incarnate powers.

Unlocking the Alpha slot allows Shards to drop at their current rate.

Slotting a common Alpha ability increases the Shard drop rate by X%, and each subsequent advancement (uncommon, rare, very rare) would give a substantial percentage increase to the Shard drop rate.

I won't claim to know what would be a good drop rate to make solo players happy, but I'd think any increase to them would be welcome. And it leaves the Shards and Threads separate if the devs do indeed have plans for both kinds of Incarnate salvage in the future.

I will say though, if there are no plans for Shards past the Alpha slot, I'll throw my vote in with the "get rid of Shards" crowd.

Suddenly their decision to have the Alpha slot work with its own separate currency makes a lot more sense; I suspect that this already the case.
I could see this happening. The devs know that a lot of people are playing specifically for the Incarnate stuff. So it would only make sense that they open at least some of it up for the free/premium players.

    Example:

If you are a player who purchased Going Rogue but then dropped down to the Premium level, you might get the Alpha slot for 'free', but none of the other Incarnate slots. Free players might be able to purchase access to the Alpha slot and in doing so would be bumped up to Premium status. Maybe it would even be allowed for Premium players to purchase individual Incarnate slots at some point down the line without becoming a full on VIP subscriber.

I have no idea if this is something the devs are looking at, but it would be a way to showcase part of the endgame system without giving it all away.

I know I could see this on the Paragon Market...

Alpha Slot - Purchasing this opens up your Alpha Incarnate slot. You now have the ability to collect Incarnate salvage and craft new abilities to make your characters stronger.

Lambda Sector - Purchasing this opens up 2 new Incarnate slots (Destiny and Interface) and the Lambda Sector Trial.

After Lambda and BAF are purchased I could see a "discounted" price being offered for other trials like Keyes Island and the upcoming Hamidon Trial. Future Incarnate powers and trials would need to be purchased separately perhaps, but it if the free player wanted it...

If a free (not a downgraded-to-Premium) player sticks around long enough to get to 50 without buying ANYTHING along the way, I'd be impressed. But maybe once they hit 50 they may want to improve their character, but simply may not be able to pay for the monthly subscription. Offering the Incarnate slots for sale wouldn't 'cheapen' them significantly in my eyes as the player would still need to play long enough to acquire the items needed to actually slot those Incarnate abilities.

I know I've always wanted to get a second account but simply can't justify the second monthly fee. With CoH: Freedom coming though, I plan on having a second account as a freebie that might likely be a Premium account right off the bat. I wouldn't mind paying to have access to Incarnate abilities on a second account. If it were to happen, great. If not, I'll still start up a second account anyway. If I get a few extra bucks I'll throw it at the second account and improve it while maintaining my main VIP account.

I think as long as the price were not outrageous, NCSoft could get a lot of revenue from something like this.

    Virtue Or VIP

I play on most every server, so I will be playing on the VIP server as well. I won't play there exclusively, nor am I likely to move any characters over, but I can definitely see myself making some alts there. Although, now that I think about it I might just move some lesser played characters to make room for new alts on the regular servers.

Bringing in new players is not a bad thing now, I think I'll be able to handle the horde once we go F2P later. So until these new players actually start making my life miserable, I plan on doing what I've always done, play the game because it's fun. If it becomes unfun, I'll unsub.

And with the new F2P model coming, I can get back on and see if it is fun again at some future point.

All this DOOOOOM seems utterly misplaced and ridiculous to me, but to each their own.
  6. With nothing more than speculation as to what it may have in it, I have to say the Steampunk Pack sounded interesting.

Then we got some pix and it went from 'interesting' to 'very interesting'.

Now that we have video, it has gone from 'very interesting' to 'I'd very much like to buy this'.

That video was extremely well put together and showed just enough of what the pack contains to leave me wanting more.

    A+

I've been on leagues like that and we will actually get up to 24 members before entering the trial, but inevitably one or more of the people in the queue declines or simply doesn't accept the invite before the timer runs out.

The folks that time out, I can actually understand. they've been sitting there for heaven knows how long and they may have fallen asleep or wandered off to get a drink or something.

It's the folks who actively decline the league invite that puzzle me to no end. I've seen way too many players decline to think it's just a "oops, hit the wrong button" moment. Why are they in the queue in the first place if they have no intention of joining?

Anyway, the queue system is nice on paper, but in the 'real world' it just seems useless.

    Lack of acid

I can say from first hand experience that I've seen 2 acids used on the same door.

On a run a couple of days ago a teammate and I used an acid on the same door at the same time. I watched his animate at more or less the same time as mine and both temps were used.

(I can't be 100% sure on this as the other player could have lied or been ignorant, but I will take the players side in this considering I watched his character go through the grenade throw animation)

So, in my experience, it's possible to get all 10 grenades in the sabotage phase, have all of the grenades used on doors and still have doors needing acid due too bad timing.

As far as actually noticing/finding the temp powers, I always keep spots open on my power tray just so I can see any temp powers that may fall. Sure, it means I end up having extra trays open to cover all the important (to me) powers in easy reach, but it's a price I'm willing to pay to make things run smoother on these trials.
  11. A little late to the discussion but...

The one time I tried the queue system I sat in it for over an hour in the RWZ watching team after team form up and head out. I can honestly say that at least 3 BAF's formed and finished in the time I sat there because a friend was on those BAF teams. The leaders were broadcasting looking for more, but I sat and waited in the queue. There were Lambda's forming and leaving as well and in all that time never once did I get any indication of being put on a team. I was even set to join events that had already started.

    Nada.

Now, I did this purely as an experiment and was actually going over a potential respec for the toon I was on, so I wasn't just wasting my time. Granted, I was taking up space in the zone and maybe kept someone from zoning in, but that didn't even occur to me at the time.

Anyway, the queue is a nice "feature" on paper. In the "real world" though, it's apparently a huge waste of time and code. Hardly anyone uses it and the times I've actually been on a league that wanted to start with a few members short, hoping to get some of those from the queue to join, the people in the queue declined to join. Which makes me wonder why they even bothered putting themselves in the queue if they had no intention of actually joining.

    Tips drop rate

    <QR>

No problems here getting tips. Oh sure, sometimes it seems like it takes a while, but it's all perception.

I don't even bother running missions to get tips, I just street sweep in Talos and take out the mobs of Warriors, Freaks and Tsoo that I come across. Takes me maybe 20 minutes (usually less) to get all 3 tips. Then I head to Atlas to do the tips, since Atlas is a small zone it makes getting to the next tip faster. I almost always get the last 2 tips (and most of the time) and the morality to drop from those missions so I don't need to bother going back to Talos to get more.

Doesn't matter what level the character is I'm playing, that's my routine for them all, whether they are lvl 20 or lvl 50.

    Here's hoping your luck improves.

I had items eaten yesterday as well. Filled a report on the site and had my items back within hours of the initial report.

Just give the GM's as much data as possible, like what toons sent the emails and aproximately what time they were sent. They were able to find my stuff in an 8+ hour window I provided, I'm not sure how easy it would be to find things over several days or even weeks.

I wish you luck in getting your items returned though!

    Email rollback

    <QR>

An update to my earlier post...

I got back everything that I lost when the email ate it yesterday. I simply provided what toons sent the emails, where they went and a fairly vague timeframe. And I'm talking like 8+ hours in one case and the GM's found the items and they've already been restored.

    Email rollback

    <QR>

    Petitioned as well.

Lost all emails and attachments from characters I've since deleted. Some decent items I hope I don't 'lose' (no purples and only a few mil inf). If I do, oh well, nothing a little bit of farming can't get me again.

Just rather not have to farm since I got them without farming the first time, hehe.

Looks nice and all, just not $10 nice. For $6, you would have had a sale. At $10, not a chance.

Nice to know the price ahead of time though and now I'm starting to get an idea of what future packs will be like.
  20. Origin pack alone < $6 = me buying

Origin pack + "free" Party Pack < $10 = me buying

Origin pack alone > $6 = me not buying
  21. I've had that happen from time to time and I've only seen it in the mid 20's to upper 30's.

I just /bug it and move on, it's not common enough to worry about and to me it's good for the occasional chuckle when it does happen.

What I'd like to see done with Hasten is not only the ability to recolor the FX, but to change them as well.

I have a few fire themed characters that Hasten looks just fine with. But there are others that if I could get different FX, I may actually take Hasten. I'm not a min/max type player, I make concept characters and if a power doesn't 'feel right', I skip it. So I end up skipping Hasten on most of my characters.

If we could get some tintable FX to simulate electric abilities, or a simple glow for the various energy themes, perhaps even some sort of 'fog' for dark or cold based themes, I would be really happy.

No idea how feasible this would be, but it'd be nice.

But, thats a positive thing because it helps you get moar merits.

If I remember correctly from the beta, you get a choice of either unlocking the Alpha slot/incarnate salvage or getting merits, you didn't get both.

The system is being reworked though, so we won't honestly know all the nuances until open beta. But I'm betting that it will stay close to that model once it is here. After all, you can't have your cake and have it be nutritious and inexpensive and readily available and eat it too.
