Or so it says here:
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/f...gon_market.php
You realize, of course, that that's just as good as a free character rename, don't you? Just think of all the cool characters you've ever made that had crumby names, and now you get to rename one of them per month? I can just breathe in all the awesomeness.
(You just have to make a quick toon on the destination server with the same name as the one to be transferred, and that will result in getting your rename token as part of the transfer.) -
I always tell people who ask me about it that the real goal of the game is to come up with a cool name and costume. After you've achieved that, it doesn't really matter whether you win or lose.
-
It would be awesome as a Def/Troller/Corr/MM secondary powerset. Or better yet, maybe as a Blaster Secondary. At least that way there are a limited number of animations that need to be fitted with it.
How would people feel about mixing a travel with a secondary? Any thoughts? -
Quote:Yeah. Every RPG player wants a Santa Claus DM...... until they get one.
The real problem with pool powers is not that removing the restrictions would just let everyone easily take Tough, Weave, and maybe Aid Self, but rather that everyone WANTS to take Tough, Weave, and maybe Aid Self over other pool powers because they are just that much better.
Most of the tier 1 Pool powers would never get chosen at all if they had to compete with Tier 2 powers. Travels are different, though, because they don't serve a tactical purpose so much as a convenience purpose. SS doubles as stealth, but the rest are just there to get you across zones.
Quote:I missed a lot of this thread since I initially assumed this would apply to all Pool powers, read Z's post that, no it won't, and was subsequently so sad I didn't know what to say. Having given it a day to simmer, I have to say this:
Damn it! I was so optimistic about this. Unlike powersets, pools are designed to combine a range of "roles." Take for instance Medicine - it combines support and self-defence. Or how about Presence - it combines tanking with control. The problem here isn't that I have to take a weaker power to take a better power, not at all. This is a fact of life with a powerset, after all. I have to take Jab or Punch in order to take Haymaker. But with Pools, I have to take a taunt power if I want a support power, even when I'm playing a character who has no use for taunt powers, like a Blaster or a Mastermind (that I haven't built to be a "tankermind"). If I want a self-protection power, I have to take a team support power, even on a character I don't plan to team with much at all.
What this means is I'm literally forced to take a power I do not want, will not use and don't even agree with. Sure, OK, it's a good way to save slots... If I happened to need that, which these days I rarely do in the land of inherent Fitness. But I'm still forced to take something I don't want for the sake of something I do. And again - not just a weaker power, but a power which is completely sideways of what I want my character to do. It's like wanting to buy nice car, but not being allowed to until I buy an apartment in Botswana.
In fact, let me run down the list of pools and look at what I want and what I have to take to get it.
Fighting: I want Tough, primarily. It's a decent resistance buff. To get it, I have to take either of two melee attacks which A) aren't very good and B) put away my weapon. I don't want 'em.
Medicine: I want to take a heal for myself. It's interruptible and kind of weak, but it's handy. To get it, I have to take either of two team support powers which A) require a team to use, which I don't have very often and B) are very rarely useful even on a team since I have better methods of protecting my team-mates.
Invisibility: I want Phase Shift because I have a character who's a ghost. To get this, I have to take invisibility powers of some kind, which doesn't make as much sense, especially since the self-used stealth power is weaksauce and the others are team-only.
Presence: I want either of two fear powers because my character is supposed to be indescribably scary. To get that, I need to take either of two taunt powers which A) I already have in my powersets on three quarters of the characters I play and B) I don't actually WANT on characters who don't already have them.
I'm probably forgetting a pool or two, but the point is the same: There is a certain type of power that I need or want on specific characters, and taking a completely different kind of power as a prerequisite just doesn't work for me. If I want a self-buff, then I can stand taking a self-buff that's weaker as a prerequisite. Even as a weaker power, it's still somewhat useful and I'm going to be using it. On the other hand, if I want a self-buff, I'm not going to be interested in taking a travel power which doesn't make sense for the character first.
Doh! I knew I was forgetting something! Acrobatics
1) - Fighting. I don't see any reason why the attacks couldn't use similar animation to brawl, which doesn't cause you to sheathe your weapon. (Brawl even has a kick animation for if your character is holding a bow.)
2) - Medicine - IDK. Some people never team. I myself only take medicine on toons that are going to have pets at some point in their lives. (Perhaps a good workaround would be to add a pet pool power set, so everyone can make their team powers useful in single player.)
3) - Invisibility - I don't see a problem. Maybe they should improve the self concealment power so it does something Super Speed doesn't. (Other than add between 1 and 2.5% defense, that most builds won't notice.) Even just consuming less end would be an improvement.
4) - Presence - Would be nice if one of the tier 1 powers were something other than a taunt. It's not often a blaster has need of that. An "Untaunt", that reduces aggro against you would be more handy. -
I wish there was a macro to simply force them to stay by putting a magnitude 100 immobilize effect on them. That would make life so much easier.
-
I'm planning out my Traps/Sonic Def. Just need a name and I'll be good to go. In the meantime, I have a few questions.
1) - For Acid Mortar, is it worth it to slot the Achilles Heal - Resistance proc to it?
2) - If I take the concealment pool power Grant Invisibility, and use it to make my FF generator invisible, will that make it less likely for enemies to attack it, or does it make any difference?
3) - Do Seeker Drones and Triage Beacon make a lot of difference? I'm thinking maybe I might skip them to make room for pools. -
Quote:Commando from the Mercs set can go up to 90%. I get him up to that every time I use Serum on him. At least it says he's at 90% (in blue) when I look at his details. This is very strange. I was pretty sure pet's resistance cap is only up to 75%. 90% is like Tanker/Brute level?
I seriously doubt pets can go up that high in actual performance. Maybe combat details lied?
Unless there is a difference in which pet?
He seems to perform as one very invincible guy too, so I don't doubt it's real, but maybe... I know my MM character herself softcaps at 75, so it is kind of ironic. -
Quote:I'm not sure if you are aware of it or not, but women can hit on women as well. So that type of activity wouldn't necessarily reveal the gender.
Sexual harassment is sexual harassment, whether it's from someone of the opposite sex or someone of the same sex.
And yes, women can sexually harass men.
Odds are the kind of guy who really poses a threat (or even a feeling of threatenedness) would reveal his own gender deliberately. Female to female harassment certainly exists, but not in the same volumes. Nobody is expecting a perfect solution. It's just nice to reduce the frequency of occurrence to a near zero percent. Just because perfect zero is only possible in a perfect world, doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to try and get close.
Some people have tough real world situations to deal with, and go online to escape from it. Not be subjected to it even more. -
I actually wouldn't object to an all female server. They have all female subway cars in Japan for reasons that are not dissimilar to this.
It would have to be a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of all female server, though. Clearly men would go on it sometimes, but if you did or said anything that revealed your gender (such as hitting on women), they could report you and possibly have you banned from it.
Quote:The trouble is that the kind of man who stalks her back to her house so he can sexually assault and murder her will make the same arguments. ("She was asking for it." "What did she expect?"...etc) Women need a way to be able to tell who is going to do that and who isn't, so they can avoid having it happen to them. You can't expect them to presume innocence when their own safety is at stake. You're doing a really good job of completely missing my point.
And we're probably talking about 2 different things.
I'm talking about the kind of tops with a neckline so low you can practically see their belly button. Tops where the bottom strap of their bra is clearly visible. Tops where there is no doubt whatsoever that it was explicitly designed to show off a woman's chest.
And I'm not talking about the guys that will stand there blatantly staring at a woman's chest or make rude comments. I'm talking about the kind of guy who is going to look and then go on about his business.
When a woman wears a top like that and then gets pissed when a guy so much as glances at their chest, it's a little messed up.
Or are you trying to say that you have never in your life taken an appreciative glance at a good looking guy with his shirt off? If you have, you've got no real room to talk.
It's like if you owned a store and put your merchandise on display in the front window, and then saw a bunch of people walking by and looking at it like they're casing the place to rob you. You'd start to feel threatened. If they're looking at it like maybe they might be considering making a purchase, that's almost always going to be a welcome glance. -
If different dimensional timelines were a real thing, probably some peoples' parents would end up conceiving them on different days, different times, or while having different life experiences, which could lead to a situation where different sperms and eggs are combining.
So, instead of your identical twin being born in that world, there's a good chance your fraternal twin gets born instead. -
How do you mean that it does nothing? Well slotted, it can boost your commando up to the 90% soft cap on most of his resistances. I pretty much never get into a situation where he doesn't live out the whole time limit, unless I'm up against psionics, or -res attackers.
On a super tough battle, I place it on him, heal him to full, tell him to attack the boss or EB, and then retreat. After I'm about half a zone away I start resummoning the other henchmen as they die (and they all will), then when he crashes, I dismiss and resummon him and then equip them all before the mobs can get to me. Basically I get a second wind, and usually he finishes off the boss. -
Quote:So it's true that we're going to be able to take flight at level 6 now? Are any of the other pools like that, or just the travels? If I remember correctly from SDCC, where I was playing with it once the character I'd created reached Atlas Park, it's one of the Paragon Points tier rewards, available at level 2. It feels as if it has about the same speed, or a little less, than Fly if you get it at level 6, but it does have the downside that it appears to take all your concentration to use it -- you can't use other powers while you're flying on the rocket board (i.e., it's like Walk).
Quote:I wouldn't think so since most animations don't require much leg work. Leg movement differs during flight, so i figure they could just lock the legs to the board during most attacks. And it should work the same way of going from atk animation to stance on board like ninja run and beast run do. Imagine how badass Hail of Bullets would look while locked onto the board.
If there's a problem, then they'd have to fix it, which would definitely take work. Can't just withdraw content after it has been presented. Not without much kicking and screaming. -
Quote:I cannot understand why any male would object to women choosing to dress promiscuously. Just enjoy the view, and try not to be too obvious about it.And yet a female school teacher will still be arrested and fired if she were to try teaching her students wearing nothing more than a g-string and high heels.
And businesses frequently have dress codes and fire employees that don't follow them.
The truth is that men and women both dictate what women can wear and how they can react to how they look every single day. -
Quote:Yeah. It's really hard to keep them grouped, because they like to spread out, but they've all got to be standing right by each other to get the bonuses. That's true for Thugs builds in general, though. I make a GoTo macro that just moves the enforcers, and then keep them snuggled up right next to my Bruiser at all times.Oh, I'm not complaining about the stats, sorry if I presented it that way. It was mostly a question of curiousity.
I'm at level 35, so I've got plenty of defense going around. It's not that the minions are dying too fast. Well, except the arsonist, as noted. I can't really explain what it is. I'm just not liking the feel. Which is terribly vauge, I know.
Getting the patron AOE immobilize later on is kind of a Godsend. -
Serum won't help you farm, or make much of a difference in how fast you gain XP, but it's great if you like to do TF's like Imperious, where there's a super mighty AV fight waiting at the end for you and your team.
Most of the time you're using it so rarely that when you finally get into a situations where it would be handy, like where your team is about to wipe out, you end up forgetting to use it. That's my experience of it anyway. -
Quote:Nobody would play on that server. It would be a huge profit sink. The only way to implement this fairly is to also create a men-only server.
Quote:Don't let your true gender be known in-game, most times problem will be solved.
If you're playing a female toon and getting harassed, tell them you're a guy.
Play some male alts. Playing a dude isn't so bad, even though when they run it looks like they have a stick up their ****
I know it's not polite to deride homosexuals, mind you, and I have nothing against them, but the kind of guys who harass women tend to be very insecure about their sexual orientation, so it might be fun to play with that.
The best way to deal with an insecure person is to taunt them until they realize how helpless they are to do anything about it, and then run away with their tails between their legs. -
1. ) - Procs fire on the pet. I haven't tried Soulbound Allegiance specifically, but the other procs I've tried always fired on the pet instead of me.
2. ) - The +Def and +Res procs work on all your pets if you slot them to one pet, but only when they're standing close to you.
3. ) - I'm not sure about that one, but probably the -Rech doesn't count against you.
A similar thing happens if you slot def debuff to Enforcers. It will show up in the window as though the def debuff were also impacting his Maneuvers aura, but when you look at the numbers on the henchmen that are being affected by that aura, it's clear that it isn't.
4. ) - Brute friend or not brute friend, you'll want 02 boost in order to keep your own henchmen alive. The End drain protection is nice, but the really awesome part of that power is the stun protection.
Get that power up past level 30, and when an ally falls in battle and uses a wake to get up, the 02 boost will eliminate the stun effect from the wake so they can immediately start moving freely. I'm sure your brute friend will appreciate that too, if he's like most brutes and dies a lot.
Quote:Both of those sound good. Yeah the Achilles should definitely stack with the basic -30%, but only every 5th enemy will actually be affected by it, so I don't really see the point in wasting a slot to get it.5. Freezing Rain and Lightning Storm Slotting. Since there are so many options to slotting these two powers I could use some advice here. I have made a Storm before and I know that LS can hit multiple enemies so maybe a Devastation hold proc? For FR an Achilles, would the -res proc and a seperate -res so total -50%?
Quote:Also, any advice I would appreciate. This is an exclusive Duoing toon so I won't be soloing much. My brother is rolling a Clw/Fire Brute as this toons partner. thanks a lot guys.
Also, Thugs are very sensitive to location. If they're standing near both enforcers at level 50, and you slot a couple of Defense IO's to Enforcers, they can easily get up to 25% defense from just that. However they have to be standing inside the Enforcers' aura to get that bonus. So, you should do everything you can to keep them from spreading out. -
I'm wondering how they'll choose a damage type? If it's a big sign, I'd think it would deal smashing damage. If it's a big sword, then wouldn't it deal lethal damage?
-
If you have already told them you are female, tell them you were lying, and you're really a gay man.
-
Is the rocket board a pool power? Or a prestige power? Or is it a costume option for characters who take the flying pool? (That last option would be my favorite, but they're all quite awesome).
-
Hmm... /pain would certainly be interesting. I like to use it for tankerminding on my bots/pain. You think it would work as well for mercs?
I wonder how well pain bringer works together with serum? I would think that the +End regeneration would take care of the end crash that happens when it wears off, and the +regen while he's still super would mean he's safe even without you there to heal him.
I like to drop serum on the Commando during super tough battles, when I can see that I'm about to lose, and then just leave him there to fight it out on his own while I run away. -
I think they just can't spare the art resources to do it. In the power proliferation announcement for i-21 they mentioned that the reason they added Ice Armor to stalkers is because they were told they had to choose a powerset that would require no art changes. I'm thinking those guys are busy doing something that takes up all their time.
-
I want to try ninjas/storm, but I'm worried that all the knock back will motivate my Jounin to stand off and use their crossbow all the time instead of fighting.... which would make the build kind of tiresome.
Has anyone tried it who can say if there's a way to convince them to keep using their swords? I think the build would get kind of tiring if they're not going to be dealing very much damage all the time. -
I agree with Jibikao. Mercs is a good synergy for it if you can stand playing them. You can hold a boss down with Hurricane while your henchmen gun him to death from behind you.
I haven't tried it with ninjas, but I would think that the time your ninjas have to spend chasing down enemies after they get thrown around would reduce their damage output a bit. However, the fly protection from Snow Storm could be very handy in keeping hovering enemies from flying out of melee range from your ninjas.
For Bots, the addition of the option to slot a "recharge intensive pet" +5% defense IO, together with Steamy Mist, can help you get your Bots defense closer to the 45% defense soft cap. The downside is that you have so much knockback in that build it might be difficult to find anyone who wants to team with you.
Mercs, Ninjas, and Bots
