I was just checking to see if there was any news about what the update was for, and took a look. How could this thread have gotten to 13 pages in just 3 hours!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
And still doesn't contain any useful information, just belly achers. -
Where would you place Dr. Doom? He's a mystic, and a scientist, both.
-
Yeah. That's the difficult part. Her name has "Doctor" in it, and the poison is clearly science (though I'm debating whether it might be occult science, like have some ancient alchemy overtones to it.)
As for Heat Mastery, Avatea just announced today that Ancillary pools will be accessible from level 35 now. So, now she'll be able to start doing demonic magic at level 35 instead of level 41. Maybe I'll say it takes her that long to figure out how to unleash it? I'm sort of feeling the whole Red Skull in Captain America thing, where maybe the source is magic, but the approach is science. Hard to place.
Part of the problem is DO's, and SO's. It's hard to decide which ones will feel more natural for the character. Certainly she's not using any genetic alterations on herself, but vambraces and wands are a bit much too.
Quote:PATCH NOTES
This is a revamp of how and when players access the cool features of our game. In an effort to make these features more accessible, we re-evaluated their availability:- Auras are now available on the Paragon Market (they were previously only available at Level 30 and in the Keyes Island Trial store)
- Capes are now available on the Paragon Market (they were previously only available at Level 20 and in the Keyes Island Trial store)
- Ouroboros is now accessible at Level 14 (previously only available at Level 25)
- Epic and Patron Power Pools adjustments
- Tier 1 or 2 Powers are now available at level 35
- Tier 3 or 4 Powers are now available at level 41
- Tier 5 Powers are now available at level 44
- A Tailor has been added in Atlas Park and Mercy Island
- Trainers now allow you to edit your costumes as well

Yes. Goto is helpful, but sometimes I just want them to really really stay, like tell them to stand there and make sure they know I mean it. Like, perhaps in a way that even my Thugs MM's Bruiser might understand?
-
I think heroes feel a little left out. Villains have these wonderfully caring, sensitive, mentors/role models who are willing to teach them a few epic powers if they'll just run a few errands for them in return.
But what about heroes? Won't anyone take those poor, unloved heroes under their wing? -
I understand that programming pets AI so they will just stay in one place when you want them to is probably a technical nightmare, but what about just giving the MM the ability to put an Immobilize effect on them, say magnitude 2 bazillion? No matter how their AI works, they will quite certainly stay put if they are immobilized.

So, in conclusion, I went mercs/storm again. IDK why, but it seems to be working out. I don't even know why I gave up on the old one. I'd narrowed it down to either that or Therm. Part of me wishes I'd gone therm, but the rest of me is glad to have so many controls/mitigation to keep my mercs alive with.
-
I'm thinking I'll have a hard time seeing that +rech go to waste. Even though temp selection still has other benefits.
-
So now we have slightly more complete information.
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/g..._power_set.php
"Temporal Selection" clearly has recharge among its effects. Don't know about any of the others yet.
So:
1) - Time Crawl : Single Target Debuff -Recharge, -Speed, -Regen debuff (and amplifies other Time set effects if they're cast on an enemy under its effects.)
2) - Temporal Mending : "Strong Team Heal"
3) - Time's Juncture : "Powerful Debuff"
4) - Temporal Selection : Single Target Buff +Recharge, +Damage, + Regen (and amplifies other Time set effects if they're cast on an ally under its effects.)
5) - Distortion Field : "Control Power"
6) - Time Stop: "Control Power"
7) - Far Sight: "Buff"
8) - Slowed Response: "Powerful Debuff"
9) - Chrono Shift: "Strong Team Heal"
Hopefully we'll be able to fill in details for some more powers on the list later today. -
I think I always overthink these things because I know I can't change them later.
-
Quote:Yeah. I think I read in a Posi interview that he said most of the functionality for the time set was all stuff that already existed. It's quite possible it will have a few clones, to be sure.We can't say exactly how Farsight works, really. It's too soon to assume it's some AoE +Defense to all types or positionals buff. I mean, it could be a clone of Mind Link, but that would be pretty lame, since it seems the set has a few 'clone' powers so far.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if there's so -regen mixed in with the -rech powers, which would certainly be nice.
Quote:As for Time's Juncture, I suppose that depends on how fierce it is. There's one thing, however, that makes me go "Hrm" about all this...
... Wouldn't this all just add up to being a worse Dark Miasma, much like Sonic is a worse Thermal, for MMs?
If we compare this to Dark Miasma, which it's starting to look like it's an off-shoot of... you're going to have a few clone powers of Dark Miasma, comboed with, at a glance, two or so powers that don't benefit your pets. Unlike Dark Miasma, where the whole set is a giant batch of delicious synergy.
With the assumption of icons, I'll say what I feel - Time Manipulation will be a lackluster Dark Miasma, with the current guesses. Will it be playable? Sure, even Poison is 'playable' right now. Will it o be optimized? Not in the least.
I don't know how it will compare with Dark, but you know hardly any of the secondaries compare well with that. -
I've got a character designed named "Doctor Deviance", who is a mercs/poison MM. I plan to take Heat Mastery as her ancillary.
Her back story is that she is a half demon spawned by the union of her mother, a prominent scientist, and a demon she had brought over from another plain.
The child grew up to be a mad scientist, and loves to experiment on her henchmen. (She's /poison and will surely be taking Serum.)
So here's my problem: Half Demon implies the source of her power is magic, but her henchmen clearly get their power from science. (Unless I decide that it's occult science, with some magic mixed in.) Probably her ancillary powers will be due to her demon blood. -
Quote:Every seasoned player I talk with redside says the story content is far superior to blue side. It's not even a contest. However, that is only true once you get past Mercy.More broadly, I'd say it actually showcases the reason why pretty well. That the 'bad side' tends to be better written. Because it has to be better written.
With CoX, I'd suggest the quality is pretty comparable. The problem is, with few exceptions from the player perspective, the writing doesn't pass the higher minimum quality component for a villain story.
I've always felt the main problem for Red side is just that the content in the opening area is such a train wreck only a few players ever make to the good parts and get hooked. Hopefully the facelift in i-21 will be a step toward fixing that. -
How valuable are Envenom and Neurotoxic breath? I'm quite certainly planning to skip them for now, because I don't want my character to do any spitting animations, but I'm thinking that since poison is getting a revamp in i-21, maybe they might fix those.
So, I'm just wondering if it's worth the trouble to save room in the build? I'll probably take poison trap for now to hold a place for one of them (since I know it will be a power I *really* won't mind changing out). I save space for the other, it will probably be late in the build, like around L50. -
On the one hand, there is the concern that maybe the buffs will turn out to be recharge redux (which has no effect on MM henchmen). On the other hand, actually looking at what little we know of the set, it looks like it will have some other very handy elements to it.

We can see the icons here:
Eleghost made a pretty good analysis of it:
Quote:New info!:
Time Manipulation / Beam Gun video: http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/545/ajz.mp4/
Short tour of new zone on hover board: http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/705/vem.mp4/
Atlas with a new look: http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/716/avt.mp4/
Time manipulation powers based on icons/effect graphics:
Time crawl:
ST slow, adds effects to other powers (so someone said).
Temporal Mending:
AoE heal, plus healing over time (unsure if it's regen or healing... works basically the same, though. healing ticks are more useful when we're at regen cap)
Time's Juncture:
PBAoE tohit/dam debuff (unsure on any other secondary effects)
Temporal Selection:
Looks like movement speed (I saw the green rings), but the icon looks like +damage, so maybe its secondary benefits include a damage bonus, because I didn't see any red tear drops.
Distortion Field:
Drop AoE -rech/slow (plus whatever additional effects)
Time Stop:
ST hold. plus whatever.
The only real generic power in the set.
Farsight:
Looks like mind link, which is freakin perfect. (I did see purple shields and yellow crosshairs, so it's definitely at least +Def/tohit)
Slowed Response:
Looks like melt armor
Definitely -def, unsure if anything else (probably -res addition, there weren't any orange shields in the video)
Chrono Shift:
Some sort of super AM
Will wait for more specific specs.
~~
Beam gun shares MM pulse rifle weapon sets:
bang
bang
cone bang
zap
scope
boom
slowbang
-resbang

Would there be a way to create the slide VFX so that it made sense for non-ice toons as well? As it stands it would appear to be rather specialized.
-
Until you log in, the old name + # is their name. That's just there as a temporary placeholder. But, when you log into the game, they'll let you change it instead of keeping that as their name.
-
Yes, but they also look the coolest. What can I do? My vanity exceeds my play expectations and I'm forced to take them.
They're also pretty decent if you like to team a lot. The -def debuffs together with being ranged (so I can stand back from the group with them, like we're all just blasters). And the occasional sporadic mezzes from the spec ops are nice too. -
Are you sure the proc is actually firing on people who are located in the Beacon's area of effect?
I always understood that the proc only affects the caster, and only at the moment of activation, or that it would affect the pseudopet using it, but not any of the actual targets. If that's not the case, that's just plain awesome. -
Quote:I can see the requests for other powers getting annoying, but for punch and kick, it's the exact same animation. Maybe the tough part is in coding or something like that instead?
BABs explained that it was just a lot of work to rig a power like that. Brawl, purportedly, is the most complex power in the game because of how its animation is set up. BABs also explained that while this wasn't in the slightest impossible (when I suggested this be done for Kick and only Kick), he knew such a change would spawn requests to do this to all other powers that put weapons away, which he didn't ever foresee having the resources to do.

Giving me a power I can use on myself as a prerequisite would solve the problem, really. I have no use for second-rate team-only buffs on a Scrapper or a Brute. Giving me something that I could buff myself with as a prereq, that I could go with, even if it's not very good.
I actually created a MM build just to try and incorporate it, but with the recharge time and the interrupt, I really didn't find many chances to use it. Those few times I did use it were before AV fights to make my henchmen mezz proof, and I swear by the time I got to apply it to the last henchman, the buff on the first one was getting ready to wear off already.
Quote:I personally feel that Phase Shift is just out of place in the Invisibility pool. It's not an invisibility power, it's an intangibility power. There are characters who can turn intangible while never being able to go fully invisible, and it is just these characters that I'd take Phase Shift on. By contrast, almost none of the characters I can think or conceive of who CAN turn invisible can also turn intangible. The conceptual link there is very tenuous. -
Anyone trying to date anyone online is a hassle. There is only one server where I play as my proper gender. On all the rest, I like getting a break, and not having to worry about dating politics.
Even if it's not outright harassment, it can get really awkward if you're in a SG or something, and somebody has misread your ques. ... Which still happens when I'm playing the other gender too..... I may need to rethink this whole strategy.
Quote:You're overgeneralizing my statement. As someone who got my education in the 70s and 80s and doesn't think the world revolves around Europe, I'd like to ask...overgeneralize much?
I didn't say "all old timers" I said "only old timers". There's a difference. "Only" implies that no one outside the group does something (which is ... of course.. still a stretch), however it in no way suggests the number of people inside the group is large.
I said it in answer to another posters overgeneralization that white male history is overwhelmingly taught in schools. I was merely suggesting that the time when that was true has passed. I didn't mean to (inadvertently) imply that those old timers who were taught the other version would not be smart enough to learn better later in life. Just that some of them may have been taught the other version originally. -
Quote:TF channels are global. How would you lose that with a character transfer? But you're definitely right about losing SG status. I didn't think of that.Totally different as a free character rename as I see it.
You have to move the character over to another server, so maybe you lost your SG, TF channels, etc...
And maybe when you back on next month your new shiny name is already taken
As far as names getting taken SpaceNut is right on the money with that. Just make a placeholder toon to reserve the name you want until next month. -
Just out of curiousity: you can't slot recharge intensive pet IO's to lore pets, can you?

Quote:The "black history," "women's history," etc. were deliberately created because in western society, History class is "celebration of white dudes." Though I guess how realistic that is goes back to where a person is educated, but it certainly was true of my own upbringing/education. To learn about the great things non-white dudes did meant reading (very) occasional asides about the occasional female/non-European descent person. These were only punctuating the long passages on generals, inventors, scientists and philosophers of a very decided lineage. Learning more about other cultures (or even sub-cultures) often required me to seek books/courses 'off the beaten path.'
But again, your mileage may vary based on where/when you received your education.
Change "Is" to "Was at the time the decision was made", and you'd be on track for 2011. Society has evolved quite a bit, and we're still criticizing ourselves as though nothing were different.
Only old timers who got their education back in the 70's, or 80's, or earlier are seriously ignorant enough to think the world revolves around Europe.
Quote:Exactly. Maybe I can just hope the new discriminations would be interesting, this male/female, black/white crap is boring. Can't we just dislike people because they are dislikable?
I'd like to see people choose it on the basis of an actual honest-to-goodness coin toss. Heads we hate them. Tails they're one of us. It would be so much less pretentious than what we do now.
