I have a long-time 50 Ninja/Storm.
As long as you don't go totally berserk with the */Storm powers like Tornado or Hurricane or Gale, you'll be fine. Just knock stuff into a clump (or even a rough approximation thereof) and then let the Ninja go to work. Touch the clump every so often with Hurricane (gently!) to keep up the -toHit.
Of course, you can crank the volume to eleven if you want, you'll just kill a little slower.
You will always lose Genin, however. It's the rent you pay for such a flashy set combo. One well-aimed Fulcrum Shift, however, and the rent becomes worth it.

The ninjas do have a tendancy to keep in melee range alright from my experiences. They only occasionally will stand there and fire a few arrows but will eventually close in on their target.
Like Entropic said, use your knockback in moderation and you won't have any dramas. It can be quite effective to just run around circling the mob to make sure everything stays in the middle and push back in anyone that tries to run, using that rather than diving straight into the middle with hurricane turned should give you better packed groups and your pets can do what they do best.
On my Nin/Storm, I go for total chaos. Usually 2 tornados running around and hurricain always running. I actually have gale slotted...
Yes, it's pretty much a total solo character, but it's fun. In my experience, once the jounin go melee, they pretty much stay melee. Usually I have one genin that goes spastic and decides that he must just throw stars.
No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.
I want to try ninjas/storm, but I'm worried that all the knock back will motivate my Jounin to stand off and use their crossbow all the time instead of fighting.... which would make the build kind of tiresome.
Has anyone tried it who can say if there's a way to convince them to keep using their swords? I think the build would get kind of tiring if they're not going to be dealing very much damage all the time.
