Something to remember: Exercising before breakfast will help you burn fat faster.

This applies less to the low-carb ketogenic kind of diet that Noire is following, but it still does, as the body does produce sugar from protein when there's enough to go around in the diet. Anyway, I digress.

The reason for this is the ketone bodies level in blood. Our body tends to use sugar as its first source of energy - with some notable exceptions, the heart, for example, burns a lot of fat, but I digress again. Once sugar starts running low, we start to burn fat and to use protein to produce sugar. Now, fat isn't the best thing to move around, it doesn't go dissolved in blood like sugar does, and it's kind of sticky, and moreover not all organs or tissues can easily use it; the brain, for example, doesn't like fat. So what happens is that the liver and kidneys start breaking down fat and send partly-oxidized molecules in blood, called ketone bodies, that other tissues can easily burn.

Sleep is typically the longest period in which the body goes without eating anything. Which means that, when we wake up, our sugar levels are at its lowest (typically blood sugar levels vary very little, but the reserves are low). Also, at this point ketone bodies levels are on the rise, the body is moving fat, it's time to burn it! Go do your morning routine, and if you don't have one, make one

In a bit more practical terms, it works like this:

Imagine you eat enough energy for, say, 120 minutes of exercise, and imagine your liver and muscle can only store, say, 20 minutes worth of sugar (that's where the majority of reserve sugar is stored; also, numbers have been made up for illustrative purposes). So you're left with 100 minutes worth of sugar-energy. Food isn't absorbed all at once, so if you exercise shortly after you ate, what you'll do is burn all the sugar as it's being digested or as it was on its way to be stored. You may still burn some fat, but it'll be mostly sugars.

Now, converting sugar into fat costs energy. So, if you store 100 minutes worth of sugar as fat, you may store about 80 minutes or so, say that you lose 20% of the energy by doing the conversion (I don't remember the exact number, but there is definitely loss of energy as everything is turned into Acetyl-Coenzyme A, which is the two carbon molecule used as the building block for fat). Then you get to move the fat out of the adipose tissue and do some chemical conversions that will too take some energy out.

So, the best way to maximize the calorie loss is to let your food be converted into fat first, THEN burn that fat - that way you use the same energy when exercising, and there's the added benefit of some of the energy being lost during the internal chemistry of the body. And the best moment to burn fat is right after you wake up.
  2. I'll pay exactly $0 for extra slots to publish missions. The creative process that I enjoy when coming up with new stories isn't bound to a publishing slot, a collection of bytes or markup text, or even any real or virtually tangible media. Thus, I see little difference between having the story in my head or in a 100 Kb text file.

Having seen the MA creator, I have a fair idea of what I can or cannot do with it (note I said "I"). Getting the stories in my head put into a digital format has two possible outcomes: it playing as I envisioned (given the tools at my disposal), or playing worse and having to change it. I don't see any of the changes being accidentally for the best. It's way more likely for those changes to be for the "meh".

And the other point of view, which may be "popularity", is moot, since I don't see any other arc I could make performing significantly better than the arcs I have already published, given that they come from the same source (my head).

Thus, I'd be happy to use extra slots being had for free. I'm extremely unlikely to fork over real cash to get extra slots.

    YMMV

No, you shouldn't ask how a ghost can carry children.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AFAIK, they carry them away screaming and in chains, to suffer for all eternity.

Which is why, kids, you should be good.
  4. Very nice, assorted resistances all over the place, great job!

    Any other surprise results?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The one on my sig is just shy of 400 plays now, and I made it only as a humorous short arc, to fill the gap left by an arc I had to take down due to the Ninjitsu bug.

I figured I'd make something silly to amuse myself that I could take down after the bug was fixed, but that was all the thought behind it. Go figure

    First solo AV!

    Well done! *Thumbsup*
  8. I made three, had to unpublish one when it became clear the /Ninjitsu fix wasn't going to come in a hurry, then made another one. So I have had three published since... Well, couple of weeks after i14, and one unpublished (that should, finally, be working fine now).

Seems like I've been done creating arcs for a while
  9. Unless something breaks, I'm not likely to touch my arcs, other than perhaps tweaking the custom mobs if they actually give us a way to make non-soul-crushing custom low level ones.
  10. Fire/Fire will probably be substantially harder hitting than anything else non-shield (maybe DM/Fire if you have enough Soul Drain fodder, but you're trading in some damage from FE), but also substantially squishier.

Becky may just be the most memorable player-created character in the AE system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that's Becky the Tarantula Mistress, she's not player-created. She appears in one of Vernon Von Grun's missions redside. But she is definitely awesome...I used her in one of my arcs too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    She's like... Totally cool!

It seems likely that Statesman and/or any number of other villains played a part in slowing the meteor's descent in an effort to reduce the devastation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even then. Going by the calculator, the minimum entry speed for an actual meteor is 11 km/s. However, set the speed of entry to the lowest possible the calculator will take (1 km/s), and the crater is still 111m in diameter - and that's after losing almost 90% of its kinetic energy during reentry!

If they had the power to slow it down so much that all it happens is that it cracks the pavement a little bit, they could have sent it packing back into space.

EDIT: Oops, read the numbers the wrong way around, it's actually under 90% kinetic energy loss.
  14. There are several possible answers for you:

    - Attacks with no positional component (i.e., melee/ranged/AoE), these are few and far in between, but they exist.
    - Secondaries granting to-hit buffs. If you're just at the softcap, a small to-hit buff can increase dramatically the amount of damage you take.
    - Aim/Buildup-like powers. These are usually found in the harder difficulty settings, and can grant a large to-hit buff for a short period of time (5-10 seconds IIRC), and the mobs tend to activate them just as they aggro you. That can make the alpha-strikes of the harder mobs a heck of a lot more dangerous.

Basically, to-hit is going to work directly as a defense-kryptonite, and harder custom mobs in MiA have it much more readily available than non-custom regular mobs. You may need more defense to have more wiggle room, and/or to take purple inspirations to get a temporary boos in defense against the Aim/Buildup powers.

And origin stories never work because honestly no one really cares where your character came from. The only reason people make them is to stroke their own gamer egos. Just some helpful advice for you future arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd disagree. One of my three published arcs is an origin arc that seems to have been received quite well (40+ ratings as of yesterday, 4 stars, typically positive feedback).

Now, if all your arc has to offer is showcase your character being awesome, it's likely it won't be very well received; but that's more likely to be because "just showing someone awesome" is doomed to fail when you don't involve the person playing said arc. That applies wherever the awesome character is actually one you play, or Statesman, or whatever.

Make your origin arc be "my character came from you being awesome and beating this big bad and their evil scheme" and you'll see more success. I.e., make an arc where the player actually has something to do.

What doesn't really make sense about the meteor thing is how incredibly intact Atlas Park is after the impact.

With the handy dandy Earth Impact Effects Program I did a bit of calculation. Now, I guesstimated the diameter of the meteor to be 8m, and with that size it's almost impossible to have a clear impact unless the material is extremely dense (about 1/3 denser than iron meteors), and comes at a very steep angle.

Now, with a steep 90° angle, a density of 11,000 kg/m3, and the typical entry speed of 17 km/s, the meteor should make a crater almost 400m in diameter, and tumble down buildings and things at a much greater distance. (See the results and feel free to play "destroy the earth with giant meteors", it's fun! )

  18. So that the thread doesn't stall (and to shamelessly plug mine! ):

Aquarius: With Saturn and Venus in conjunction it's a great time to start a new project. #1345, "Jumping in Feet First" would be a great place to start one. You should, however, not rush any of these new plans, Venus' phase advices caution in these projects to succeed.

Short soloable heroic low level arc (levels 1-9, 3 missions), very little to add, it's mostly stock Council troops in a straightforward set of missions.

Sagittarius: The Moon has retreated from your sign and the Sun will not enter for another week. Do not let the Bikini-clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space in arc #61013 take advantage of this! You will need perseverance in your endeavours during this week. Thread.

Levels 5-25 (but since the latest custom mob changes, bit on the hard side at low levels), humorous arc, soloable for sure. It's more on the heroic side.

Also you may want to try this:

Go to suspected text fields, select all text, then Ctrl+X/Ctrl+V (can't remember if Ctrl+A to select all text works, otherwise just use the mouse or shift+arrows). This will cut (as opposed to copy) all the text in that field, then paste it again. I have used this with good results to get rid of invisible or otherwise mysterious HTML bloat in those text fields.

They're timed missions, which is fairly annoying.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The wolves became timed because they were the farm of choice, due to wolves moving very quickly it was possible to round up the map very quickly and destroy them in an orgy of burn or have the flying blaster wipe them out as wolves didnt used to have a ranged attack. I actually know some people still with the original untimed version on their characters.

of course now with the agro cap and MA to farm whatever the hell you like the timer is totally redundant, as mentioned, its good to let the mission fail if you cba to do it.
