Shadowhunter: Three times!?

I think it is lazy as heck that for the final series of 45-50 Portal missions, we basically got the identical Shadowhunter mission THREE times. Timed missions to go around hunting glowies and killing wolves, and then beating on his regenerating [censored], which is a bit annoying for a tank.

Did anyone else hate doing this same mission three times?

It did seem very redundant, now that you mention it. I think one of those three is actually in the lower 40s though. They're timed missions, which is fairly annoying. I let the missions fail with my MA/Regen scrapper because Shadowhunter is a self-healing brick. I beat him up with my Ill/Rad controller though.

I'm avoiding the Praetorians with most of my other characters. However, I'll be using their followers in AE missions.

Another thing is that there is never even given a plausible reason for having to go there. I'm not arresting Shadowhunter, and heroes don't kill war wolves. Maria Jenkins freaks out cause Chimera kills a war wolf.

So they're basically just sending me there over and over, to beat the crap out of them and leave.

You also can't get the Dimensional Warder badge without doing the arcs that have Shadowhunter in them, and he doesn't even count towards the badge. Yet he is fought repeatedly. Then there is 5-10 minutes of playing 'find the last wolf'. Meh.

I wonder who designed them.

The only way I could get Shadow as a shield tank, was having like 10 wolves around while I hit him. I can't even imagine how suck a time a non-shield tank must have.

EDIT: Oh well. I guess all arcs can't be as well made as the Vanguard ones. :P

What bugged me most of all was not being told I would have to fight Shadowhunter. I'm going in to adjust devices. I accept the mission and find out I have to defeat everything. I look around and find Shadowhunter. Oops. Better figure out how to beat him before time runs out. It's not that unexpected, with all the other Praetorian fights from those contacts, but a little warning would be nice.

But there's no actual reason to beat him besides getting the mission bonus, so I might as well just let the timer run out. All three times.

This game has many issues with it's missions. Just adding to the list...

I hope with the new staff we get to see something fresh and exciting. Unfortunately it seems like they may have missed the mark with ROGUE. Using re-hashes of what we have seen and just making the enemies 'opposites' of existing heroes/vills is pretty weak. This was an opportunity to go fresh and exciting.

At this point, anything which isn't another 'kill all' mission, will be fresh and exciting to me. Though, to be fair, they actually really got away from that with their most recent arcs. It is only the original task forces that are still kill all hellholes. Which is particularly boring when you start with a group of 8, three drop out, and for the rest of the task force, you have to kill 8 man spawns to the last gear or widget.

I've done the Praetorian arcs on several characters. Beating Shadowhunter solo on Unyielding was a test of strength for my tank and scrapper, a challenge. I didn't try to solo him on any of my other characters.

Shadowhunter can be very annoying to fight. The mission accept doesn't tell you it's a timed mission, and it should. That to me is even more annoying.

See, that's the beauty of it. Since it's timed, if you don't want to fight him, you can just let the mission expire!

...I forgot what experience means.

That whole arc feels like it was created just as an excuse to throw AVs at you to me.

"What? Statesman wasn't there? Well go try that dungeon then."

In the beginning it might have been ok just for the novelty of having an arc that had a bunch of high level challenges in it but I think people expect more quality story telling now. If MArc did one thing it was to show how good a story arc can be. I'd love it if someone would rewrite A Hero's Hero.

The wolves became timed because they were the farm of choice, due to wolves moving very quickly it was possible to round up the map very quickly and destroy them in an orgy of burn or have the flying blaster wipe them out as wolves didnt used to have a ranged attack. I actually know some people still with the original untimed version on their characters.

of course now with the agro cap and MA to farm whatever the hell you like the timer is totally redundant, as mentioned, its good to let the mission fail if you cba to do it.

Your Statesman is in another castle. :P

Seriously though, a lot of the old higher level content ranges from Dull to plain bad. The Malta arcs are an exception.

#2409 - The Mystery of the MAGI vaults. Azuria has contacted you to help her stop the thefts from the MAGI vaults.
#68054 - Out of the gutters. Left for dead, you swore that you were through with being a victim (alt villain beginning story)

I'll agree with this. I think Maria Jenkins suffers from a whole crap ton of boring. I feel that most of her missions (including the arc) were designed to draw interest from players from two things; The new portal missions (people gotta love alternate dimensions, right?) and lots of AVs.

After a while the whole "go to dimension x and kick this guys butt" loses it's meaning and it's just "kick this guys butt" which we've done a few hundred times. The AV thing is kinda cool, but we know how to fight them now and the challenge isn't enough when compared to newer content.

OK, kinda went on tangent there. Anyways, Shadowhunter is a pest. I've been caught by the whole no timer, no mention of an AV in the description before. Then you go in and find you have a problem. First time that happened I was on a tanker and was playing around 4 in the morning. Cleared most of the map then ran into AV. Couldn't put together enough of a team that late and ended up faling it. I made sure to rememebr that mission and never grab it unless I have a team ready to go. In fact, I haven't had a character take a mission from Maria since Issue 5.
