Lifetime subscriptions are great ways to make quick money on game startup, to help repay investors quickly. They aren't that great for a game that has been out for 5.5 years. At this point, as much as I love this game, but it will soon begin to fade as newer games come out, vets get burned out on it, etc.
Does this game have enough life left in it to make it worth a lifetime subscription? Does it make economic sense for the Devs to even offer it at this point in the game's life? Do they need a quick infusion of cash more than they need the steady stream of income? -
Quote:Nope. Given that you could copy 4 or 5 copies of the same toon across, respec them all to remove choice IOs and then give them to one of the copies fairly easily being able to copy them back to the live server would be a silly thing to allow.
Only thing you can do is open a Petition Ticket and ask a GM to undelete the toon for you. If you're US side they may do it for you (not if your an EU player though).
Even then, if you've created a character in the slot where the stone character used to be, it'll be very hard for the support staff to recreate the character for you. Honestly, I'm not sure how much help you'll get on this anyways, since you voluntarily deleted the character yourself.
Still, good luck! -
First off, just so you know, petitions are pretty much breaking the forum rules. That said, I would like more options like this. And THAT being said, you should probably put this in Sexy Jay's costume request thread, since he's the Dev in charge of creating the costume bits, and he reads his thread fairly often for ideas.

Quote:On a full team you'd have a 70% chance to get a merit for each mission plus end of arc bonuses? It could easily end up doubling merit rewards. I'd personally love this, but it's hard to see this being agreed to by the devs. As described (as a bonus for teammates), it also punishes soloers.
On the other hand I could see a flat 15% chance of getting a reward merit at mission completion. That way people who aren't the mission holder would have a chance of getting merits (a particular gripe of mine right now: only the arc holder gets merit rewards ). And on a full team you'd usually have someone getting a merit for every mission completed. And if you're soloing you'd get more merits than are currently rewarded but the difference wouldn't be so huge as to dramatically devalue merits.
Well, the soloer tends to be able to do his own arcs more of the time. I believe that currently, the soloer tends to be ahead of the teamer in regards to merit earning. As such, creating a system where the teamers can catch up to the soloers a bit in terms of merit earning might not be so bad.
I also think that larger teams should get more rewards. It takes longer to recruit a full team (maybe not so much with the super-sidekicking feature coming) than to just keep going to your own missions solo. Doing a mission with a smaller team can mean less time spent searching for members. As such, the larger the team, the more likely you are to get a single merit for being on the team.
However, this could mean double merits for the arc holder. So maybe the arc holder would not be eliigible for the merit rewards? Not sure what to do about that one, but it would make it so these merits were for helping, and not for doing, if that makes sense (as the doer already gets merits). -
Quote:Basically a robotic styled armour set for all melee archetypes, i had this Idea when i bas making a robot themed brute, Willpower shown promise with the psi resistance, but nothing else much. While Energy and electric seemed more technologic, yet the psi resist was lost, so I suggest we make a defense set similar to the basic defense of robotics henchmen including the weakness to EMP as a base part of the set.
the powers of which would include main resistance to Smashing, cold, toxic and psi attacks with some powers giving a bonus to strength and recharge. The powers would consume more endurance than normal armour powers but have a Drain endurance power included with it.
The Devs try to not limit a set to a specific origin to make sense. A Robotic Armor set would be a technology origin, and be very hard to fit into the other origins. Energy Armor and Electic Armor tend not to be this restrictive.
However, if you want to, make a full set (detail the 9 powers in it), and put it up in Lady_Jade's Power Suggestion Box. -
Quote:Maybe a 10% chance per teammate, per mission, of getting a merit upon mission completion? For missions outside of the AE only, of course, and would not be awarded for TF or Trial missions either./qr
I wouldn't argue about offering a merit for helping others complete their arcs. How to make it fair, though... it's hard to say. I'll have characters along helping others for multiple levels - missing my own arcs, because we're busy on theirs - then I'll look and realize I have very few merits. Given I've been doing everything but talking to the contact right alongside the others, this *can* be discouraging to teaming. (Yes, I know you can grab the same contact and simul-complete - if you have them, have the arc space, etc.)
"Assistance merits" wouldn't hurt, IMHO. Not per-mission, I don't think, but something as a token for being there.
This way, if you have a full team, you have a 70% chance of getting a merit upon mission completion. It's not a guaranteed chance, but it's a good chance. A duo would have a 10% chance each of getting a merit. -
I do not mean to be rude, but this has been known since inventions came out. It was even stated in the issue patch notes, and I think is mentioned in the invention tutorial. I think you'll be pretty much preaching to the choir here.
But, always good to teach newer players some things.
Also, the rule should NOT be done away with. Otherwise, it would be even easier to trivially get a lot of bonuses that can imbalance the game. It was put in to specifically not let you easily rack up a ton of big bonuses just by slotting the same set 10 times, or something like that. -
I believe that a fix to Mid's will be out shortly. Though, I will gladly take this issue up with him if I can find him on.
May I ask if this is across all incarnations of it, or only for a certain AT? -
Yup, Blazing Aura gets a bit of a boost for being in the 'offensive' primary, and because out of the original four Tanker sets, it was the only one that didn't have some sort of auto-hit Taunt aura going for it. So it got the bonus damage to help compensate a bit.

Quote:Because you won't be able to use the proliferated powersets to Villains? Or make use of Power Customization redside?I thought so too but I don't this that posi and horatio would make that mistake. It does sound like the devs are giving Heroes a new epic power pool and villains an extra power for brutes/VEATS.
I mean if this is the case I will call it quits, I am getting increasingly tired of blueside getting all the shiny stuff and we get overlooked. If blueside APP's get 1 whole new set for each mastery and a 5th power then thats just a plain insult. I doubt we are getting a new patron...I highly doubt we are getting anything but an extra power for the already mentioned AT.
Sad...very sad...
Scrappers had the FEWEST choices for Ancillary Pools out of any AT. They had a grand total of three choices. They are being brought up to being tied for the fewest number of choices. I highly doubt that any other AT is going to be getting anything but 5th powers for existing sets that don't have 5 powers in them.
But villains will be getting something this issue that they can use. Could they use to get more? Of course they could. But they will be getting something. -

It goes away. It no longer exists. They're called Influence sinks for a reason.
If you want a more RP-ish way of dealing with the loss, the Influence goes to paying for local schools to get afterschool programs (gotta keep the kids outta all of the gangs in the city), while Infamy goes into the "Make Recluse look FABULOUS" city fund. -
A few things, if I may:
1) Against All Odds should NOT be taken that late. It is your aggro aura, and you are going to miss having it as a Tanker, and your team is especially going to miss you have it considering that you're also not taking Taunt (which is fine, but it means that you'll be relying on Gauntlet and your aggro aura to hold aggro). Take this much earlier.
2) Ice Patch is definitely nice to have, but if you have enough mitigation elsewhere, then you don't particularly need it. However, it can make a decent difference in survivability, especially in the mid levels before you start really putting in IOs.
3) Hasten can be put off some levels. You've pushed back a lot of great powers to fit that in so early.
4) Phalanx Fighting is a great early-level power. It's a straight-up 5% Defense power to stack with your other Defenses, and is free to run. If you've got a teammate nearby, it goes up! I'd say try to get that earlier if you can.
5) True Grit: you are overslotting this power for the +HP effect, and not slotting it at all for the Resistance. Any reason why?
6) You can put off Build Up for a while to fit other things in earlier. Your damage isn't great anyways. Might as well work on other things first.
7) Without seeing the full numbers, it looks like you'll be over the 45% Soft Cap for Melee defense, but under it for Ranged and AoE Defense. You may want to switch around some sets to shore up your Ranged and AoE Defense values to bring them up to 45%.
8) Deflection, your basic Melee Defense shield, seems underslotted for DefBuff. I'd add another slot to it.
9) I think that your choice of Ancillary Power pool powers are fine. Ice Storm probably won't go with your build that well, but Fireball could be a great power for you to help with your damage. Since you've got few good single-target attacks, Fire Blast is another good choice. -
I think that was a little unnecessary. They weren't asking for something for nothing, they just wanted to know what the status of it was. They weren't demanding an update, just wanted to know if one was out there.

Kruunch, if you really think that CoH could have ever compared to WoW, then I really don't know what to say.
Blizzard was a well-established American company with several successful brands (Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo), and had access to very large advertising budgets, not to mention the budgets to have a permanent, decent-sized staff to work on the game. It also based its first MMO on the most popular of its series, so before it even came out, it had a decent following. It was also attractive to current MMO players that had not played a Warcraft game before, simply because it was still a Fantasy-genre game.
CoH was produced by a company that was little-known in America, and made by a company that was just getting off its feet. It had little advertising money to throw around, and the game title had no history behind it. It was also basing itself off of a new genre in terms of MMO players.
There was no way that CoH was ever going to compare to the population that WoW got. It just wasn't going to happen. I honestly think that even Blizzard was surprised at the numbers it got for that game. Which then led to it having even more money for advertising.
CoH wasn't trying to hit the WoW marks (even though the WoW marks weren't there yet, because CoH released first). It was trying to be a successful MMO that did things differently. And guess what? It has worked for 5+ years now, which makes it a pretty successful game. Has it been the best-populated game? No. Has it been unsuccessful? No.
I do think that WoW is throwing off your idea of what a typical MMO has been able to garner in terms of game populations. -
[QUOTE=Kruunch;2120885]So according to you, reaching L50 is the end of the game?
And you see that as a working model for a subscription based service?[quote]
Yes, and it seems to be working fine for his game. This game has constantly tried to show that they can do what other MMOs don't do and succeed. So far, it's worked. It's worked so well, that the game has survived for over 5 years now. That's more than some other MMOs that have come on the market since and tried it with the 'proven' method.
Quote:Can you back this up with actual numbers, Kruunch, or are you just pulling your numbers out of your ***?Kali: Server pops and Jack Emerret's posts after release disagree with your numbers. Jack posted at the height of release (approximately six weeks after release or so) when CoH exceeded 100k subscribers, specifically as a refutement that lack of content was going to drive away customers. Since then and including City of Villains, server pops have never exceeded those post-release populations. So whatever the true release figures were, CoX has never exceeded those. If you take away trial accounts, I'd be very willing to bet that my numbers are closer then yours, but short of seeing their bookeeping I can't point to a source to corroborate this.
In any event this is all academic, as no MMO with the exception of WoW and EQ have exceeded post release numbers past a year after their release to my knowledge. If CoX were to flip a light switch on tomorrow and magically have a revamped game that hit on all cylinders, the likelihood is that it would only be enjoyed by those die hard players who have stuck it out. Unfortunately those die hards are becoming less and less as well.
What's left are small resource non-intensive tweaks and development to try and retain what subscriber base CoX currently has; re: the subject of the original post.
And if you think that Power Customization was a "non-intensive tweak", then I'm betting that BABs would love to have a word with you. -
Quote:I'm willing to bet that in any MMO, if you created a system where people could create their own missions, you'd see an explosion of easy content that gives the most rewards. And some people should understand that if the most interesting content available to an MMO are player made farm maps, then the MMO really failed in the content department.
Quid pro quo.
Don't blame the Devs for human nature. -

Quick question: what are you planning on doing with Salt Crystals? -

Quote:Pinnacle is my second home, all in all it's fairly similar to Guardian with a lower population than the big servers and lots of good friendly people playing. Frequently referred to as the "Drunk Server" you may hear some in-jokes about the whole situation of inebriation.

Your mom...<hic!>...has some jokes...<hic!>...about inebriation! <stumble>
Haha...that's what she...<hic!>...said!

Yay for Pinnacle! -
Well, I'm sure this'll clear it up for the OP then. ;-)
