Dear Devs, can you PLEASE throw us a bone here?
That is why I check the policies on everything and if it's look solid, I'll go. If it looks fishy, then I walk. Google looks fishy to me so I avoid them as much as possible. Google owns alot of things but they dont own the internet.
-Female Player-
not entirely. Dont have to use their search engine, youtube, facebook, G+, their chat sites, email system, and anything else that google directly controls.
That is why I check the policies on everything and if it's look solid, I'll go. If it looks fishy, then I walk. Google looks fishy to me so I avoid them as much as possible. Google owns alot of things but they dont own the internet. |
And no, Google doesn't own the Internet. But if you think you can spend any significant amount of time on the net without touching Google services, you're delusional.
But hell, I already know you're delusional, you think Google runs Facebook.
None of which absolves you from being too damned lazy to punch two words into *any* search engine.
Off subject a little: Which is I never gotten statement like "I'm have a PHD and I'm a medical doctor and I think the Cadillac is a fine car." I mean, what the hell do being a doctor has to do with anything?

Google has nothing to do with Facebook - two completely separate companies. Not saying that Facebook doesn't pull sleazy garbage; just that Google isn't behind it.
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
Popularity do not over rule facts in my book. They might be famous but in the end of the day they are just another person. Meaning, just because they are famous doesnt automatically mean they are right about everything.
|
Exactly. And, just because someone is a famous author doesn't mean their second hand information is any more reliable than the next person's. Unless someone who is actually in the negotiations says they're still ongoing or confirms/denies what is being rumored, then those rumors hold no more weight than some random one-post-wonder crackpot on the forums. Because they can be just as easily misinterpret, exaggerate or just plain fabricate as the next person. Without reliable confirmation, take everything with several grains of salt.
.
Positron and Zwillinger also have posts out there making cautionary statements about how soon the forums might go down (and I'm not going to go hunt those statements down because winning an Internet argument doesn't pay me any money whatsoever). Which really means that no one knew (or knows) what NCSoft would (or will) do next.
HEY, SURPRISE, PEOPLE!!! NCSOFT IS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNCOMMUNICATIVE!!!
Mercedes Lackey is a best-selling author who has marshaled her professional capital and business savvy as a resource to gain NCSoft's attention. It worked at least to the extent that people involved with the negotiations are still communicating with her.
I don't know her and I'm not her internet body guard; but early on I made a personal decision to do my meager part to spread news and help keep people motivated here on the main forums. I'm just one of a gazillion posters who are out to do the same, but many others are spending more time on the Titan Network now (can't blame them).
I don't want to sound offensive either, but I'll admit, I find it mildly irritating that people who have actually been around here the last three weeks are just now asking "who is this person?" I've also seen people ask who Brian Clayton is and I find it hard to believe that anyone who's actually been paying attention and/or keeping up with the real SaveCoH movement would be asking these questions now, this far into things.

Dark-Eyes Doctor Serpentine Stonecaster Skymaiden The Blue Jaguar
Guide to Altitis A Comic for New Players The Lore Project Intro to extraterrestrials in CoH
To the OP: there are no more "Devs" left; officially, nobody is developing anything CoH related anymore.
|
But anyway, I guess that means I should be looking at the Titan forums more?
Exactly. And, just because someone is a famous author doesn't mean their second hand information is any more reliable than the next person's.
|
Okay. Got it.
I'm sticking with the rednames on this one.

Celebrity is useful if you're trying to get a message out to mass media. Unfortunately, best-selling fantasy author doesn't have as much reach as it might.
Isn't it sad that we would have been better off if Snooki were the huge CoH fan?
But no, celebrity doesn't correlate with credibility. On the other hand, it does correlate with capital. Which Paragon might find itself in need of if it turns out that they are able to work out some sort of deal with NCSoft.
Rose: Don't be daft, nobody owns the internet.
Henry Van Statten: And let's keep everyone thinking that way, right kids?
Had to share that particular quote.
So the rednames trust her, but you don't.
Okay. Got it. I'm sticking with the rednames on this one. |
Oh well, so is most of the rest of the world.
Which, to be fair, is something that until I am presented with evidence to say the contrary, i am inclined to believe. Because as soon as those discussions are over, then we will find out one way or another *in public* (more than likely though only if the game is successfully transferred away form NCSoft).
But, as i have already said, there have already been 2 incidents (which i have listed) where she has been unable to corroborate what she has said. (In one, the person is now to busy to tell her where they got the information from; the other, she has since deleted the information which told her about it).
Now, to me, that is very convenient.
If I did something similar, I would be chastised for it, and yet, she gets a free pass?
Yeah...
One rule for me, another rule for the famous person.
So you're willing to follow people with the "Authority" label even when what they say contradicts established facts.
Oh well, so is most of the rest of the world. |
You know what, nevermind. This discussion is about as useful as a playground argument. Nothing we're posting here will cause any action, and everything we're posting here will get nuked along with the forums, and long before that, it will scroll off the front page in short order, to be replaced by more nitpicking and axe-grinding.
Please just go to www.SaveCoH.com, write letters, send masks and capes, writes posts on other forums, write open letters to NCSoft in comment sections beneath articles covering SaveCoH on gaming and other news sites.
Stop wasting precious energy arguing about whether someone else out there--who is trying to do something about all of this--is good enough for your trust, whoever you may be. Your opinion about Mercedes Lackey is non-essential and posting about it won't make NCSoft pipe up and give you their take. And trust me (or don't), the faster you get NCSoft's take on all of this, the worse it will be. They can't make announcements while specifics are still being negotiated. They can only speak publicly to the gaming media after every dotted line has been signed.

You played CoH, right? Just checking.
And no, Google doesn't own the Internet. But if you think you can spend any significant amount of time on the net without touching Google services, you're delusional. But hell, I already know you're delusional, you think Google runs Facebook. None of which absolves you from being too damned lazy to punch two words into *any* search engine. |
And name three google servies that are unavoidable then?
-Female Player-
who said google runs face book? I put that in there as an example that is another service I avoid. Never said google ran it.
And name three google servies that are unavoidable then? |
Or you could, you know, man up and admit you made a mistake.

That's hilarious. You said Google runs Facebook. Go ahead and try to weasel out of it, it's entertaining.
Or you could, you know, man up and admit you made a mistake. |
Name three service that is unavoidable sine you view Google as some internet all knowing every internet god?
-Female Player-
No problem. I'll do that. Right after you admit that you thought Google owned Facebook.
|
But since you need your ego stroked. Here you go.
"So I thought Google owned Facebook."
Now stop clowing around and answer the question, that is if you even can.
-Female Player-
However, as i stated, there have been a couple of other incidents where she has been unable to back up her statements.
Hell, here is another example:
Au contraire. You are talking apples and wingnuts here. In fact, this is a win. In the past, all that NCSoft offered was "free game and game time on another of our games" rather than a real REFUND. I think we can say they finally blinked. That's the apples. The wingnuts is negotiations to purchase by Paragon Studios. NOTHING in this post says that those negotiations are over. In fact, as a PAID EMPLOYEE of NCSoft, Andy could not possibly reveal anything about those negotiations. All this says is "neener neener NCSoft might have blinked, but we are not going to keep the game alive." So what? We don't WANT them to keep the game alive only to kill it down the road. We want someone else who loves this game to keep it alive, growing and vibrant. This is also a psychological ploy on the part of NCSoft to discourage us from keeping up our pressure on them. They WANT us to be defeatist (and they obviously succeeded in your case). If anything, we need to put MORE pressure on them--to sell. |

So, she is *not* perfect, she does get things wrong.
And this is why, more than anything else, I would like (when asked) for evidence to back up her statements, especially when I *KNOW* that they are incorrect.
There is nothign to deny here about it as because I know Google dont own facebook. And that is the end of it. I think you are avoiding the question because you cant answer them. How about you grow a pair and answer the question. But from what I already gather is that you wont answer the question because you know you cant. So instead of just saying that you cant, you put on a front and try anyway to avoid having to answering it and that is fine with me.
MY statement stays I'm not in the buisness of convincing people of stuff that is irrelevant and probably couldnt be convinced if they was waist deep in it.
Take it or leave it and unless you are answering the question, there is no more to this conversation.
The end result will still be the same I will still continue to not use those products listed and you will continue to believe in what ever you believe. So what is there more to talk about?
-Female Player-
Mercedes Lackey, a fantasy fiction writer.
Oh no wonder I never heard of her. Dont do the fantasy stuff.
Well how is it going with her? I see what Gangrel is saying though. Popularity do not over rule facts in my book. They might be famous but in the end of the day they are just another person. Meaning, just because they are famous doesnt automatically mean they are right about everything.
Off subject a little: Which is I never gotten statement like "I'm have a PHD and I'm a medical doctor and I think the Cadillac is a fine car." I mean, what the hell do being a doctor has to do with anything? It's good that you are a professional on the human body but doesnt all of a sudden make you an expert on vehicles. Just saying. Just say you think a Cadillac is a good car. The title/degree/profession/fame that has nothing to do with subject at hand adds no weight to it.
