Can you restore VIP status with boxed set codes?

I've gotten conflicting reports on this. Two people have told me they were able to apply codes to get VIP status back and I put that in my SG channel MotD. Since then others have contradicted this. My best guess is that the first two applied the codes to extend status, rather than renew it.

Can anyone help clear this up?

I went from free/premium to VIP with box codes (Architect Edition, CoV Collector's Edition, Going Rogue) on a couple of my extra accounts, and gave one of the codes to someone else on the forums and it worked for him too. All codes were applied Friday night I believe, but I assume it would still work.

PM me. I still have a pair of Going Rogue box codes I was hoping to use to entice friends to join the game.

I'll be trying a Going Rogue box code as soon as it arrives from Amazon. Will post when I have the results.

Just ordered 2 from them. Knew the risk that maybe it wouldn't work, but the shipping ended up being more than the game copies, so 'what the hey'?

I can CONFIRM that a new code will work as of yesterday: successfully applied an Architect code yesterday morning (Sept. 5) to convert/upgrade to VIP.

Gave out my two Going Rogue codes.

Remember, you can only apply codes that have NOT previously been applied to the account.

By that he means you can only apply (1) one code for the Going Rogue Edition per account. Codes for the same edition don't stack.

So if you buy two copies of the same edition you will have to use the codes on seperate accounts.

This applies to all editions/expansions.

So an account can have codes for:

1 City of Heroes
1 CoH Collectors DvD edition
1 City of Villains
1 City of Villains Collectors Edition
1 Good vs Evil
1 MAC edition
1 Architect edition
1 Going Rogue edition

Aha. Thanks FP, that undoubtedly explains the mixed reports I was getting.

I may end up being out of luck then, because I already had a non-complete edition Going Rogue code applied, and I'm trying to apply a complete edition code.

I'm pretty sure I've used every retail code available, so I might end up having to play Freemium until the end of days, which is sad.

Is there a way (besides memory) to tell what retail codes you have applied to your account? With only a couple of exceptions, billing just tells me "retail code"

Just applied the Going Rogue complete collection to my account and it upgraded me to VIP. Yay!

YES!

Just got the Going Rogue in the mail from Amazon. (Try doing this while traveling up and down the Eastern Seaboard and see how fast you can do it) and it works. VIP Again!

Now I just need to get Nvdia to get my driver issue fixed or find my mom's Win7 disc so I can reload before I get back to CA at the end of the month.

But Going Rogue codes work!

The only retail box I hadn't bought was Architect Edition because I already had the Cyborg and Magic boosters at the time. But it just came in the mail today, and it worked to upgrade me to VIP.

I haven't confirmed this, but it's also been claimed that if you can't use a retail box code, you can use a time card to activate VIP status.

But you shouldn't need to do anything anyway... if you had active VIP status on September 1, it should remain active from now forward. It shouldn't expire.

Just relaying my experience - I was never a VIP, and the accounting system does not allow me to upgrade my account to VIP with a code from an older product (which I am assuming is already credited to the account, e.g. CoH DVD edition).

However, if logged into your account on the NCSoft website, the redeem code function will allow you to use an old code to create a "separate account" (using either your NCSoft Master account login, or a new login) to create an account which does have VIP status. Of course, the account won't have any characters, because it is like a new sub-CoH account under the NCSoft master account. I can confirm this because I did it using the account code from a City of Villains box - when I logged in with the client using that name, the account had VIP status.

I assume using an old code it would probably also grant CoH VIP status to a newly-created NCSoft Master account as well.

So be aware if you try upgrading to VIP using the in-game store with a code for an upgrade for which your account already has credit, it will probably respond with : 'the code is valid, but can not be applied to this account', or something similar, which is the response I got when I tried using an older box code through the in-game store.

This was the thread I was looking for.

My question is once you apply one of these retail codes (which I just did; The Good vs Evil edition), how long will the VIP status last? Will it be until the game ends, or for only 30 days? Does anyone know?

Thanks.

I just recieved a copy of Going Rogue Complete Edition that I ordered from Amazon. Whenever I try redeeming the code it tells me "This serial code has expired." I can't use it to upgrade any account or to start a new one.

I believe the response for an already claimed serial is "This code has already been used."

Based on the lack of expiration date on my account now, after using a code to re-VIP after the shutdown, I'm guessing we're good until the end. But that is just a guess.

Be well, people of CoH.

If anyone has codes other than Going Rogue, CoH and CoV they don't need, please PM me.

Also bear in mind that box codes are still region specific so you can only apply EU codes to an account created using an EU code and NA codes to a NA account.

I have the same problem. I just got Good vs. Evil Combined Edition from Amazon.co.uk today, and it says that "This serial code has expired."

It was a new game nicely shrinkwrapped, with a fresh "Game activation card", I had to scratch the black paint to reveal the code.

Ugh. I don't like the sound of these. It seems as if NCSoft has put a stop to the use of all CoX codes (which makes some sense given their refund policy).

If you guys would open support tickets and report back that would be a big help to others hoping to restore VIP status.

Well just tried with an original CoV box code and got "The serial code has expired". I guess I'm screwed.
