So whatever happened to the old Storm Kick animation? Was it deleted? Does it still exist in a file?

Remember the old storm kick animation? If not check it out here:

Its actually a REALLY cool attack. However, I find it odd its NEVER reappeared again. To my knowledge, no NPC in the game even has it. In fact, I am not sure if its possible to do a demo record using the animation?

So was it deleted? Or was there some weird legal issue and it could never be reused? I wouldn't even mind seeing NPCs with it...

But man it would of been cool if the Fighting Tier 5 attack was the old Storm Kick animation.

It's been a while since we get new temp power recipes. That'd be one good place for it to make a comeback.

One of my very first characters way back in Issue 1 had that power but the animation seemed very long and if you missed it became a "let me fan your face with my foot".

No different then Shadow Maul and Flurry which stayed. And it couldn't have had a longer cast time then the Total Focus line of animations.

Lets solve this: Is it possible to still demo record this animation? If so, how many frames is it? That would tell us the cast time. Sadly, I have never demo recorded so not sure how to even find this power.

you know, if they made it an alt anim for flurry and maybe improved flurry a bit, i think that would be a good use of resources. and i sure as heck would take it with rian. even when it was mechanically inferior, it still worked enough for concept for me to take it.

I believe the same animation ID is being used, but the actual animation definition has been changed. The data could still be scrounged up from the launch CD, though.

Mine too. Really captures the "hitting you fifty times in a second" flavor. If only there was a way to make it not so terrible from a mechanics standpoint.

Hmm... That might be the reason it went bye-bye but Flurry stayed, in addition to being absolutely horrible from a DPA standpoint, it was similar to... Raiden? From Mortal Combat? I didn't play the game so I'm not sure. They might have axed it because of possible legal action.

Also - I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a temp power called 9-Iron - minimal damage and really terrible accuracy but mag 60 KB if it connects. Have a vendor in AP sell it with a Hellion Golf Venue.

I think it's more likely to be too similiar to Chunners' Lightning Legs.

It wasn't a potential lawsuit worry, it was more the "You stand still for 3-4 seconds flailing your leg about. And Crane Kick was this big stance, while in the middle of a fight, you're getting beaten on. It didn't feel very fast.

This, so much this. Or call it [Home Run]. Huge wind up, low accuracy mod, stupid amount of knockback... Who cares if it does little damage? Make it inflict falling damage as required instead. Let that be the guide!

not at all. before the 3d reboot nobody (in mortal kombat) had a kick like that, and sonya blade was the closest after the reboot, but still was not the same, she ended with a turning kick. chun li also varied her height more, striking both legs and chest as well as face level. even baek/hworang in the tekken series didnt match exactly plus multi level roundhouse and hook kicks predate video games by quite some time, sobak practitioners (the style that gave brith to tae kwon do) often used multiple kicks without setting down their legs

if i remember the past, people really just didnt like how long the animation was, it sacrificed too much time if the kick missed doing nothing. a whiff meant a long time swinging in the breeze for a power with low damage and only a single target. many people suggested making it a cone effect, but the devs instead just made a new animation.

Combine the two, the opening stance of old Crane Kick, then the one-thousand kicks of Storm Kick! Ship it as a single-target Judgement, quarter of the recharge, double the damage and stupidly high base tohit! I'd use it

The real problem was that the damage didn't justify the long animation. Flurry isn't taken for that reason, too, but it's a pool power. Not a primary attack. Shadow Maul does more damage and can hit multiple targets. Storm kick did less ( it was a series of small hits back then as well ) and only hit one. Instead of upping the damage or making it an SM style cone, they shortened the animation and made it a single hit attack. Honestly I would've rather kept the longer animation and had the damage upped.

Crane kick had a cool animation too.
