More Pool Power Changes

Revealed today here.

It will be nice to get pool customization after all these years, and some of the power changes sound pretty nice - I could certainly see myself using some of the Medicine pool stuff on some of my characters.

Yeah, I think I remember one or two of the devs even wanting Hasten changed more than any other pool ability quite awhile back.

Also, I am surprised to hear they are buffing Aid Self.. I was half-expecting a nerf. I seem to remember a past dev or two was very unhappy with how powerful it was on certain toons, but didn't want to put it on the chopping block.

"Healing Medic" - the new Medicine pool ability grants a passive buff to healing abilities?

Are Empaths and other support characters being encouraged to take the Medicine pool now?

Ditto with the Concealment pools new area Placate - I can see that being useful for Stalkers.

I wonder if these new powers don't require redundant pre-reqs from the pool in these cases.

Oh, and yay for pool customisation, especially if it allows us to tint our epics too! I'll be incredibly happy to not have that conversation about flaming hands ever again.

Yeah, if you have Healing Medic you will get recovery over time added to Aid Self, but he said nothing about the interruptability going away.

No it isn't passive, you have to click it and it has a moderate recharge to it. The only passive buff it grants is that when you use Aid Self and have Healing Medic chosen as a power, Aid Self gets recovery over time, even if Healing Medic isn't active.

Yes, it buffs OTHER 'direct heal' abilities like Empathy/Thermal/Pain etc. but it does NOT affect regeneration.

It will still affect pbaoe heals that affect yourself though, like Heal Aura, Reconstruction, Dull Pain, etc.

Well, the pool power prerequisites are being restructured, so now the tier4s unlock at level 14 along with the tier3s, and only require 1 other power pick. Then the tier5s unlock at level 20 and require 2 other pool powers.

With Concealment for instance, you could get Stealth, then go right to Phase Shift, then pick up Misdirect.



That said, I'm not so sure the Misdirect would be that great on Stalkers, as it doesn't put you into hidden state. (It's just a mass agro dump and minor resist debuff.) I mean, they'd get just as much use out of it as any other non-tanking meleer, but it wont synergize with them any more so than the other ATs.

Where does that info come from?

I don't remember hearing about any limitation to self-affecting heals. In fact Dull Pain was one of the powers Synapse sited as being affected by it. It won't affect regeneration, but any actual heal should get boosted (so Reconstruction, Dark Regen, etc would benefit).

Self Affecting heals should actually get double boosted, 25% from the +Healing buff plus 25% from the -Heal Resist (de)buff.

Understandable, as with last week's nuke talk, it does get a bit jumbled sometimes. I've probably listened to the powers section of the coffee talk half a dozen times.

Now that brings up a balance problem - the Suppress Pain/Soothing Aura for Corruptors and Masterminds. Hmm...

I suppose the oddity I'm seeing here is that the Medicine pool may go from being the pool used by people lacking a self/ally-heal (Super Reflexes, Shield, Force Fields, Sonic Resonance) to a very desireable choice for those with innate heals. (Empathy/Regen)

Field Medic is the power. And yes. It reduces your resistance to ANY heals on you, whether it's someone else healing you or yourself. The caveat is that it doesn't affect your regeneration or any buffs to it.

Wow, I was excited about this power til you said that. You're right, he didn't. So logically, you are spending 13 end to activate Aid Self that can still be interrupted and the only bonus to it is it will give you back 25 end... eventually

And clicking it and then clicking aid self is a bit much IMO.

So the value (IMO) for this power for non healers/ masterminds is basically a Click me to help your teammates heal you. Very disappointed.

Also, we are getting TWO placates? Why? Did we really need two power pools with it?

No, given that most melee sets have a self heal, it's a click to help you heal yourself.

Yes to the two placate question, but they are in separate pools. I could see it for blasters, especially with toe bombing options - going in and placating a whole group and then PBAOE like mad.

I think the power is called Field Medic, not Healing Medic.

And anyway, Suppress Pain is already fairly superior to Soothing Aura, anyway.

And for those people they can wait till someone puts out a comprehensive list of everything. Though really, you get more information out of these talks than you'd ever get from them posting stuff.

The Coffee Talks aren't marketing, though. They're a community/social networking thing, which is why you really only see them mentioned here on the boards or on Facebook/Google+/Twitter, but not on the actual CoH website.

Marketing will likely write something up once there is enough information on the stuff definitely going in to Issue 24 to fill an article or a developer diary.

It wouldn't hurt the people actually in charge doing this for a living to take a mere minute to type down the changes, though. Oh, except then there might be less incentive for people to watch their boring videos. So, yep, again, marketing is the root of all evil, and "community manager" is just a fancy name for Satan's spawn.
