WB Looks Ahead at "Justice League" Without Nolan

With Christopher Nolan telling reporters that he would not be involved with any proposed "Justice League" movie, Warner Bros. film group President Jeff Robinov told the LA Times that they had had a conversation with Nolan about it as "anything you can get Chris involved in is great."

But none of the DC movies currently in the works has a producer, director or cast, save for Zack Snyder's $200-million-plus "Man of Steel."

As a result, it will likely be at least three years before a new DC title hits the big screen, according to several knowledgeable people close to Warner Bros. who were not authorized to speak publicly.

And while Warner would put most of its DC heroes on the big screen for the first time in "Justice League" and then potentially spin them out into their own movies, Marvel introduced four of its key characters in their own movies before teaming them up in "Avengers."

But with Nolan moving on to other projects, Warner Bros. must take a leap of faith without its superhero savior. Robinov claims he's ready to do it soon.
"My hope is that over the next month or so," he said, "we'll be ready to lay out the plan for the next DC movies."

The Associated Press asked Christopher Nolan if he had any plans to be involved in the proposed "Justice League" movie Warner Bros. is eager to get into production.
  • "No, none at all," Nolan said. "We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character."
  • Fans have conjectured that Nolan might return to Batman by producing a big-screen take on "Justice League," DC Comics' "Avengers"-style ensemble whose key superheroes include the Dark Knight, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.

Nolan guesses that the "Justice League" rumors started because of his involvement as a producer on next summer's Superman relaunch, "Man of Steel."
Well just as long as the movie is good

Such a movie has a better chance to be good without him desecrating the aesthetics of it, I'd say.

Aye. I love his Batman, but I can't see him bringing anything productive into a Justice League movie.

Nolan has done an excellent job to convey the character of a hero movie. It would be a shame for DC/WB to not have him. It would be interesting to see what he would do with a group.

OTOH, other than Batman I have always found DC to be largely uninspiring and un-fun. So it is a shame that he is getting attached to yet another attempt at Superman, and I hope he stays away from JL.

Compared to the last Superman movie, Green Lantern, and Green Hornet, anything he's involved with at DC would be a step up.

Just saying.

Absolutely. Any supervillains would be blandified. Superman probably wouldn't have a cape because it would just create unnecessary drag on a flying character - if he even had his powers at all. Wonder Woman would probably have some sort of modern military uniform. I would expect terrible things to happen, aesthetically.

One of my biggest wishful thoughts about the comic book world is that I wish Batman was a Marvel character. I wish DC would just lose their marbles momentarily and sell Batman to Marvel. So that I could have all of my favorite comic book heroes in one place, which includes dozens of Marvel characters, and one DC character. Batman.

He's actually met Spidey a couple of times, you know. Spidey really liked Batman. I don't think it was completely mutual, but that's what made it funny to read.

Nolan does seem to have a thing for telling stories about the fantastic, and in doing so taking as much of the fantastic out of the story as is possible.

I've genuinely enjoyed every one of his movies that I've seen (which is nearly all of them), but he's not a director I would think to go to for a super-powered superhero movie.

Though your exaggerating everything your saying makes me more interested aesthetically rather than less I wish we got to see him take a crack at Green Lantern

As did I. It's late and don't feel like getting into a diatribe about the merits of the recent DC films.

I'll be there for "Justice League" if/when it ever gets made just like I was there for "Avengers".

I'm not sure I want Nolan involved in any movies any more. I mean he's really really good. I love his movies. But some of his fans (at least the Dark Knight ones) are genuine nutcases.

When the Avengers first came out and started setting box office records the DK fans were claiming it was because people were going to see the DKR trailer and then walking out of the theater.

Now, Rotten Tomatoes has closed comments on their DKR reviews. A couple of the reviewers posted bad reviews of DKR saying it didn't live up to the hype and wasn't as good as the previous 2. Fans were leaving insults and death threats in the comments. And remember, at this point virtually none of the general public has had a chance to see the movie so they were responding based on their preconceived fantasies. Like I said, nut cases.

My personal preference would be Joss and Kevin Smith cowriting it and Edgar Wright directing.

Hey, I can dream can't I?

I wouldn't think Nolan would do any SH film that falls into the realm of magic, myth or aliens.

After experiencing the story of his latest Batman entry, I'd also expect Darkseid to be the (human or apparently human) leader of a shadow organization called Apokolips - which is behind organizations such as Intergang and the League of Shadows. He'd have an elite squad of ninja assassins to make people disappear that would be known as "Omega". The ultimate goal of Apokolips would be the destruction of all life. The plot of the movie would revolve around new nanotechnology designed for medical purposes - Apokolips would be trying to use it for evil by introducing a sort of Anti-Life Equation into their programming.

I enjoyed it; it was what I expected.

I find a move can e more enjoyable if it portray's itself as what it is in the trailers - and the things such as the hotwheels tracks, etc. was perfect.
