Aww, I'll miss seeing you around on Defiant, (even though I haven't been playing so much lately, either).
I'm glad you're going for good reasons, not bad ones. Good luck with the future, and I hope you'll drop in every now and then just to say hi.

Good decision.

Nice to see that it is a good reason that you're leaving us. Rage-quit posts always make me laugh, but this one made me smile.

Pop back in to see how we're doing once in a while.

Glad that everything worked out for you and you are ready to move on.
But still, whenever you feel the urge to dust of your spandex, come visit us.
I don't think I've ever crossed paths with Scarlett, but the note in the OP struck a chord. As odd as it may sound, I look forward to the day I can write the same message. Though this isn't a game that has an ending where you "win", I dare say, you won the game...
Bonne chance.

Awww thanks chaps. I'm genuinely moved by your responses! Thankyou all!

Hi Riff
Good luck with the business and your future. It was great teaming and having you involved in the SGs.
Keep in contact via the IJ forum and fingers crossed you may return to Paragon one day
@MidnightGuard - on Union you may know me as:
Mr. Vile - Electroman X - Zenodorus - Battler
Naga Knight - Stinkspitter
Riff mate I'm really very happy things are now looking up. I've known you a few years now and had the real pleasure of meeting you last year.
I have seen you really down and I have taken part in some of your madcap ideas. Now who am I to talk about Cricket with?.
You have been a big part of Defiant for many years, it's not often it can be said, when a player leaves "He will be missed" but in your case it's true.
As Sarg said please keep in touch with us on the IJ forums.
To end I will just say that my time on Defiant was always made better with your company. Oh and remember me when you make your first million (pounds that is not inf) I hope you will get back now and again if only to take the yellow liquid
Happy to be on Defiant.

You'll be back.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
Best of luck to you, Scarlet.
We'll leave the light on and hope for your return.

Best of luck.

Sometimes is good to take a break.
To say I’ve been cogitating over this for a while might be something of an understatement - but if there’s absolutely one thing that I want to get across is that this is anything but a rage-quit. But it is a leave of absence, an unspecified departure and I can’t see myself back in the game for a long time, if ever.*
First off though, I don’t want to talk about the future, I want to talk a bit about the past - and how much this game has meant to - and done for - me. It’s no exaggeration that when I was in the deepest pits of depression, City of Heroes kept me going and kept the suicidal thoughts at bay because I could put my own life to one side and do good stuff in a different world. I don’t propose to bare too much of my soul here - it’s highly personal and probably not that interesting - but having the game and the community kept my last vestiges of sanity together when everything else was going pear-shaped. For that I will always be eternally grateful and I have some wonderful memories of this great game... for a long time City of Heroes was my happy place and a sanctuary.
However times change and what Winston Churchill referred to as his “Black Dog” has scampered whimpering out of my yard with my size 10 plate of meat wedged firmly up it’s proverbial...ahem. well you get the picture. This is good news. In a relatively short space of time I went from barely being able to step out my front door to starting my own small business which is seemingly flourishing.
The other day I came in to play the game and I realised that this wasn’t where I wanted to be. It’s almost a personal relic of my own bygone age. It’s not actually the game - but as a self-confessed intense player I’ve done most of the things there are to do in the game - hell I put enough hours in and I’ve done some lunatic things and craziness in my time. Never quite got that Duo of the STF down but did everything but - mostly before Incarnates too.
But that means there’s no content left for me to discover and even if inclined, there’s a few issues finding people not caught up in the IGrind. However I’m not here to gripe about the game - because that’s not why I’m moving on.
I’m moving on because of a positive change my own circumstance - and I will always have great memories of this game - and the stories we told within it as players. Never mind the canon, we players told some epics!
Even when I was grumbling and griping on the forum (I prefer to think I was just telling it as I saw it - ymmv - but never with malice, albeit occasional frustration) I was enjoying the game. Sometimes shouting loudly and banging the desk worked - and I certainly don’t regret militating about global server access or the TPN trial. Somebody, somewhere, seems to listen - sometimes!
So thank you to the Devs, one and all, for a guesstimated 12,000 hours of superlative and intense enjoyment. Thank you Defiant server for the SGs, the trials, the TFs, the mayhem and for putting up with my general lunacy and still teaming with me when I was putting the diff level up to stupid. Thank you to the real friends I made who I still keep in touch with, even if sporadically. Thanks also to the community team - and here I’m going to break a personal rule and name the names of Avatea, Ghost Raptor (despite his cricketing affiliations) Kerensky and Zwillinger as being the guys who got the best out of their respective communities in often very trying circumstances. The GMs and Support team are the unsung heroes of this game though. They are always picking up the pieces and getting yelled at because the game don’t work - and do it with a smile (and maybe a bitten tongue) and invariable get things sorted - often going that extra mile. Thanks to you too for reading this and being part of my City of Heroes experience. Yes you... reading this now. No, put the soup do... oh it’s not soup.... it’s... ewww... really? But yes, you’ve made my experience here very good even when it didn’t always seem like it so thanks.
So with my thanks made I guess I’ll just say maybe this time is the best to part. I’m at the top of my game and this game - there’s no angst here and I leave with very happy memories and a positive experience to remind me that even in the darkest times, there’s always some light.
See ya on the flip side - and no, you can’t have my stuff, I gave it away already.
From the bottom of my heart I wish for you all that you wish for yourselves.
Riff
